PDF colors not displaying correctly in preview

Forgive me if someone has answered this. I've searched the forums for about 30 min and cannot find anything.
When opening certain pdf files in preview, some of the photographs have messed up colors. It looks as though they are negatives of what they should be. I can open them in Adobe Acrobat and they look fine, but would much rather use Preview. Does this have to do with a setting when the pdf files are made? Is there any way to fix it?
I think I've described the problem enough, but below is a picture to help explain. The below picture is supposed to be a black arm sleeve with white and yellow letters. In this instance, the rest of the pictures on the document are fine, just a few of them were like this.

    * Arial - bold, italic, bold italic
    * Arial Black
    * Comic Sans MS - bold
    * Courier New - bold, italic, bold italic
    * Georgia - bold, italic, bold italic
    * Impact
    * Symbol
    * Times New Roman - bold, italic, bold italic
    * Trebuchet MS - bold, italic, bold italic
    * Verdana - bold, italic, bold italic

  • Pdf not displayed correctly in preview

We have a new A) scanner (colortrac Ci40) and when we scan a pdf it is displayed in preview as if it is all wrinkled up.
Only in prewiew and if imorted in vectorworks. (on both OSX 10.5 and 10.6)
The same problem appears on a iPad.
    It is not displayed correctly.
In all other programms I tried it is displayed properly.
We also have a small a4/a3 scanner from konica minolta and these scans display corectly in preview.
Is this only a preview problem and should I ignore it?

    Hi there,
I have a very similar problem: a number of pdf files that I can see perfectly well in Safari/GoogleChrome do NOT show correctly in Preview or ANY iPad app I have (Notability, Adobe, PDF Expertm iAnnotate, Dropbox etc.).
The problem is that punctuation -- with the expection of periods or bolded text -- does not show properly. For example, commas and quotation marks to not show, and some numbers to not show.
Moreover, once I have annotated/viewed the problematic file on the IPad and resync to dropbox to view on Mac vis Adobe (which I do with most pdf files with no problems), I get an error message upon reopening the pdf file saying "Cannot extract the embedded font 'FAFWQV+--unknown-2--'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." (the 'quoted' text changes each time). When opening in Preview, no error message appears, though the fole is still lacking punctuation etc.
Here is a link to one problematic pdf:http://niis.cass.cn/upload/2012/12/d20121201200145301.pdf
NB: the file is in Mandarin, however I can successfully open/edit/annotate/sync other pdfs using Mandarin font so I'm not sure if the language is related to the problem.
I would be extremely grateful for some help with this please!
    Thanks!

  • Colors in pdf files not displayed correctly on linux acroread

I have recently observed that the colors in certain pdf files are not displayed correctly in acroread on Linux. Other readers such as evince get it right. Examples are a presentation with white arrows on  a black background which come out as black on black. I suspect, but have not proved, that the files were produced on Mac OS. I see this in acroread version 9.5.1 on a couple of versions of Linux. I googled this but could find no-one else mentioning it. Has anyone else seen it. Looks like a serious bug to me.

Does this happen with other PDFs on the server? You might check out the Adobe forums.

  • Color not displaying correctly

ive recently noticed that my colors arent displaying correctly ive already deleted the Illustrator settings folder to reset all preferences to default but the color problem is still happening i have my color ooptions this way
    im using adobe illustrator cs5
    Color to CMYK
    Color Guide: Show Tins/Shades
this is what i mean im trying to get the color i see in the color picker

The Color Picker is unreliable for choosing colors based on what you see because it is not color managed while Color panel and Swatches are.
In your image, the color that you see in the Color Picker is how your monitor displays R=0 G=255 B=0. The color that you see in the Color Panel represents the same values in the file but the color management sends different values to the video card and thus to the monitor to display a color with appearance in the color space selected for the document. In your image this is a CMYK color space which you can check from the Show popup menu at the bottom left of the document window. To check the different values the video card is using, make a screen capture, save the image, open it in Illustrator and measure the color with the eyedropper. The color translation from the values in the file to the video card allows simulation of color spaces other than your monitor's. This simulation is accurate if you have a monitor profile installed in your system that correctly describes how your monitor displays colors. Such profile is created by using a color measuring device and profiling software. If your monitor profile (color space) installed in the system is the same as the color space of the document then there will be no translation (simulation) which in effects shuts down the color management - then the colors in the Color Picker will be the same as in the document. Many people do not bother to get an accurate profile of their monitor and use a generic sRGB profile for that. In such case working in RGB color mode using the sRGB color space (default in the Color Settings) will give the same colors in the Color Picker and the document. This usually is a sign of using a monitor that incorrectly displays colors.

  • Subreport totals are not displayed correctly in Preview

I'm using Crystal Reports 2008.  I have a subreport that sorts hiearchically.  It is placed in the Report Header of the main report.  Within the subreport, it has calculated totals for each hiearchy grouping.  When ran, those totals are incorrectly displayed in the Preview;  however, when I click on the subreport, those totals are displayed correctly in the preview of the subreport.  Also,  if I go to the subreport design, pretending I'm editing the subreport, then go back to the main report preview, those totals are correct.
Has anyone experienced this issue?  Please provide help/advise.  Thanks.

Shwu, The subreport does not process any value based on the main report. I also observed that if the group extends to next page, the totals are incorrectly displayed.  I have both 'Keep Group Together' and section 'Keep Together' selected, but still the data extends to next page.  The subreport is sorted with 'Hierarchical Grouping'.  For example, below 2 lines are printed at bottom of a page:
    North America
        Sales department
then Crystal prints the rest of departments belong to North America onto next page as:
         Marketing
         Consumer
             Government
             etc.
I was hoping if I could get Crystal to not print the group if there's not enough space on the page, but rather print on next new page, the incorrect totals would go away.  Any idea how I would do page break for hierarchical groupings?

  • Pdf do not display correctly / missing fonts?

Some of my recently downloaded pdfs don't seem to display parts of them correctly in Preview (or in Acrobat Reader). Could this be due to missing fonts. I get a message in Acrobat: "Cannot find or create "last resort" font...
How do I get this font? Should I have it?
    Thanks for your help,

If Disk Utility shows no Permissions or Disk problems, then it could be a corrupted Preferences file, Preview could be corrupted, or maybe you need to do some system maintenance.
But you left it on all night, so daily maintenance would have been done around 3:00 am, so that shouldn't be the problem. You might try locating the com.apple.preview.plist file in Preferences and Trash it (but don't empty the Trash) and then try opening the file with Preview again and see what happens. If the problem is still there, then I would try putting Preview in the Trash (again, don't empty the Trash) and use your original install discs and Pacifist to reinstall just Preview and try it again. You can get Pacifist here:

    Hope this helps,

  • PDF files not displaying correctly

I have adobe reader 8 and my operating system is Vista. Every time I try to view a PDF file my screen gets messed up. My color quality goes from Highest 32 bit color to the lowest setting. I then either have to reboot my system, or go into my NVIDIA display properties and reset to to highest 32 bit color quality. my resolution is 1440x900. Why are my PDFS not displaying , and my color quality keep going to lowest, every time i use PDF?? .I

When I try to initiate Adobe Reader 8.1 in vista the window opens then immediately closes. Also when I try to open any PDF file the system locks up and I have to close whatever program is running from Task Manager. I have uninstalled old versions and reinstalled Adboe Reader three times with no error messages and no problems. I'm the system administrator so this should not be an issue. Help!!
    Thanks!

  • BI Publisher PDF reports not displaying correctly from EPPM 8.2

    Hi,
I have setup EPPM to run BI Publisher reports as specified in the documentation. I can see all the reports correctly and can run the reports ok after specifying the reqd parameters. However, when the report completes and tries to open the PDF output in Acrobat, the screen flashes and no output is displayed. This is when running P6 within Internet Explorer. If I run P6 in Firefox, the PDF output opens correctly.
I presume this is due to an IE setting or because the add-ons aren't configured correctly. Has anyone had the same sort of issue ?, and if so, how did you fix it ?.
    Thanks
    Nik

    Hi Khaja,
Font mapping is done using xdo.cfg file right ? If yes then yeah I have done it. But the barcodes are not displaying. Infact to display special fonts such as chinese, russian etc I have just pasted the corresponding ttf files under java home and not made any changes to xdo.cfg. But still the specail fonts are displayed properly.Problem is in displaying barcode fonts.
    Thanks,

  • HT2506 PDFs are not closing correctly in Preview.

Occasionally when closing windows in Preview, one of the PDFs will not close properly. The content of the file left the window, leaving me with a grey box for the window. It still includes the file name and page number and I am able to "scroll" through the pages to change the page number shown. Cmd +W will not close the active window. The only solution that worked was completely closing Preview itself and opening it back up.
Is there a way to prevent this from occurring or another way of closing the window without fully closing Preview?
http://i.imgur.com/IDAJQj8.jpg is an example of what occasionally happens when I try to close a file.

It occurred once again. I went into console and there were a few entries pertaining to Preview these include:

  • PDF does not display correctly

Issue: One of our website page displays a PDF form filled with data retrieved from database. The PDF file displays perfect in IE browser, but the PDF form was blank in Firefox browser - can not see the filled data at all in Firefox browser nor in print-out from Firefox.
I installed the most recent version of Firefox PDF viewer 0.8.1 add-on, and played with different options under the menu "options/Portable Document Format (PDF), but no luck to solve the above issue.
I noticed that not only our website, but also some government websites have the same issue display data filled PDF.
Anybody can help me out to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks!

This may well be a limitation of the JavaScript-based PDF Viewer. It currently does not support all the feature of the Adobe plugin (or stand-alone version of Adobe Reader). You can test that theory using the steps in this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
While an end user can switch around among viewers by changing their Firefox options, unfortunately there currently is no way for websites to detect which viewer is in use and assist visitors in a personalized manner. I think for now you may need to recommend that Firefox users use the above article for assistance if more complex PDFs do not render as expected.

  • Exported Colors not displaying correctly

I have illustrator files that I have imported into InDesign but cannot get them to export correctly.
I need everything to remain as RGB files.
The colors look extremely muted, very dull.
    Color settings are synced:
    N. America Gen Purpose 2 - all defaults
    Export settings:
    PDF/X-4
    Output: Color:
    No Color Conversion
What am I doing wrong?  When I export a jpeg it does the same thing - totally useless colors!
Exporting from Illustrator looks beautiful without any problems.  I've read countless other people's problems with this but have yet to find a solution.
    Thanks

YOUR default InDesign workspace is CMYK because you have not set YOUR preference for all new documents to RGB. (OK, out of the box ID is defaulted to CMYK because it is a page layout program, historically and best suited for commercial prepress, and suits most users needs.)
ID has the abilty to work with RGB colored images or text; if it decided to change color modes merely by my placing a RGB image, I'd be pretty upset.
BTW, your referenece that you usually work in RGB...tell me, are your swatches cmyk or rgb?

  • PDF file not showing correctly in Preview or other apps

    Hi,
I've trying to find an answer to my question for some time now on the internet, but couldn't find it anywhere. When I open a pdf file from someone who created it using Windows diagrams that are supposed to be Matrices are not showing properly. Most probably the matrices were created using the equation builder in MOffice.
<-- this is supposed to be a matrix
There is also a problem with showing symbols like subscripted or superscripted letters (Arrows represent superscripted or subscripted letters, either up or down):
And for some reason, when I try to quicklook the file, some pages are displayed incorrectly - only showing a quarter of the page:
Any help on this? Is there some sort of an update to solve this problem, or should I download additional fonts??
I am using a Macbook Alu from 2008 with OS X Maverick installed - all latest updates are installed.. (However the same problem appeared when using an iPad)
    Thanks a lot i advance!

    Hi Carolyn,
I looked at your file and it seems the problem is with the resolution. The design is great but the resolution was too low.
Fortunately your Apple Smart Object was high resolution so I was able to increase the resolution of the file as it is. You will need to replace the Bar Code and possibly the little flower on the back cover with high res versions.
In the future you need to start with the document being sized right and the resolution at 300 ppi. Make sure your graphics are high resolution from the start as well. You can't regain resolution that was left out, although using High Resolution Smart Objects can give you the the latitude you need to size back up.
After I sent the file I looked closely at the font. The one font you used does have zaggies but it's supposed to. Bradley Hand ITC TT is kind of a rough font around the edges by design. If this is what seems to be the problem, you will need to change to another font. Still, the file needed to be higher resolution.
I sent one back to you in high res. All you need to do is replace the bar code and the little flower with high res version. The apple graphic smart object was high enough.

  • Pdf will not display correctly on iPhone or iPad

I put together a monthly newsletter that is 20 to 30 pages long every month for my club using iWorks Pages. The newsletter contains graphics and text on every page, a mixture of jpgs & png files all in rgb as this is meant to be viewed and not printed. I then use Acrobat 9 to "optimize" and "reduce file size" to make the file more portable. The file displays fine on my iMac and my Mac Book Pro but when I try viewing the pdf file on my iPhone or iPad, the majority of the graphics disappear. Most of the text is viewable but no other content can be seen. Does anyone know a program or another work around I'm not using that would make the graphics show up?
Here is a link to my last newsletter if you would care to play with the file.
