PDF (created in Indesign CS4) separates in CMYK, in stead of PMS

I have sent a PDF, created in Indesign CS4, to the printer. I need the design to be printed in PMS colors, but the printer says the PDF color separates in CMYK, not PMS colors.
I'm at my wits end trying to find where I went wrong (I should add I'm a beginner at all this). I need help...
Here's what I did:
I have changed the colors in a CMYK based design of a business card to PMS colors. I have changed the colors of an Illustrator file that is used in the design to PMS colors as well.
When I look at the separations preview it looks fine, only PMS colors.
I then created a PDF, using the [High Quality Print] Adobe PDF preset. In Output Color Conversion is set to 'No Color Conversion'. In the Ink Manager 'All spots to process' is not checked. CMYK inks are visible in the Ink Manager, but so are the Pantone Inks I used.
I noticed one strange thing, the swatch options for Pantone Process Cyan C are different thatn those in other PMS colors, the Colortype is 'spot' but the Color Mode is CMYK, greyed out so that I can't change it to Pantone Solid Coated. Even weirder, I can't delete that strange swatch. I tried adding the pantone colors to my swatches again, in a different file, I added Pantone Cyan C and it looked fine, but when I reopened the swatch options it was strange again.

Yes, I have added cropmarks and page info to the pdf.
I checked the separations in Acrobat Pro with a friend. Both Pantone colors and CMYK show up. When I disable the CMYK, nothing of the design disappears (cropmarks and page info don't disappear either, they seem to be in both Pantone and CMYK).
I saved a new pdf, without crops and page info, and CMYK still shows up in the separations.
I'll contact the printer tomorrow, I'm pretty sure he should be able to use the file I sent him.
Thank you all for your help!

  • Two page display of pdf created in InDesign CS4 js

Hi, I need to set page desplay for pdf created in InDesign to two page view and I couldn't find anything like that in OMV. I assume it will be setting preferances for Matadata. Would you be able to help me.
    Thank you.
    Yulia

    @Yulia:
You can set all "open"-options with Acrobat Pro and you can automate this with a batch process under "Advanced => Document Processing => Batch Processing".
Also there is a way to do that through pdfmark instructions inside a placed EPS. Documentation for doing a "Two-Up (Cover page)" with pdfmarks is not available in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf for the PageLayout-tag. And of course you have to use Distiller to get the pdfmarks working, no chance doing that trick with PDF export.
Here is the pdfmark-code for an EPS you can work with (found and adapted it from the "PostScript & PDF-Bible" by Thomas Merz and Olaf Drümmer):
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
    %%BoundingBox: 0 0 72 72
    %%EndProlog
    /pdfmark where {pop} {userdict /pdfmark /cleartomark load put} ifelse
    [ {ThisPage} << /Trans << /S /Dissolve >> >> /PUT pdfmark
    [ {Catalog} << /PageLayout /TwoColumnRight >> /PUT pdfmark
    %%EOF
Save the code as a plain text file with the ".eps" suffix. Place it on any page you want to print of your InDesign layout, write a PostScript file and distill it to pdf. You should get a "Two-Up" view when opening it in Acrobat.
Meanwhile (after doing a little research on the web) it seams that all possible "/PageLayout" parameter pairs are indeed documented, but not in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf, but in the PDF32000_2008.pdf on page 73:
SinglePage     Display one page at a time
OneColumn     Display the pages in one column
TwoColumnLeft     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoColumnRight     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the right
TwoPageLeft     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoPageRight     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the right
    Default value: SinglePage.

  • Issue in PDF export from InDesign CS4

    Hi,
We are facing one issue while creating  PDF file from the InDesign document. The document has 2-column texts created in InDesign CS4 application.
The issue is, we export the PDF from InDesign document. When we open the PDF in Acrobat and selecting the text (using selection tool), the second column text is selected first and then it selects the first column text. So while copying the content from the PDF, it comes is reverse order (that is Second column text, then first column text).
Could anyone suggest me how to solve this issues.  Is this bug in ID CS4?
    Thanks,
    Gopal

    Hi Uwe,
Below is the answer to your question.
Question: Did you set the "TouchUp Reading Order" in the preferences of your Acrobat other than "Left to Right, Top to Bottom"?
Answer: No, we did not change the Touchup Reader order. It is in "Left to Right, Top to Bottom"
Question: What version of Acrobat Pro are you using? Or is it just Adobe Reader?
Answer: We are using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro version. We tested in Adobe reader X (VER 10.1.3). But the same problem exists.
Question: What kind of tool are you using? it the "TouchUp Text Tool"? Or is it the "Select Tool"?
Answer: We used both Select Tool and TouchUp Text Tool. Both selects the text in reverse order. (that is right column to Left column)
Please help me on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Gopal

  • The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC

The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC. The actual files are fine and open with the correct rich colors, but the colors don't look as vibrant as they should when viewing in Bridge. It's only PDFs that are affected. The InDesign thumbnails/previews display correctly in Bridge.
This was not happening when I was using CS6. This is only a problem since the upgrade to CC.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you're going to mess with the registry
    - create a restore point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-restore-point
    - backup the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry
I absolutely plead with all my heart - don't start changing registry entries unless you know what you're doing - or ask your IT department to take a look.
If you don't have an IT department, then source a good professional that can make these changes.
If any way unsure - then under any circumstances, - do not mess with the registry.

  • PDF created in InDesign -Field Visibility Issues in LifeCycle

I am working with pdf versions of brochures created in InDesign/Illustrator etc.  I am adding two simple fields to these forms and in the past it has worked easily. I have an image field where a logo can be uploaded and a text field next to it.  Behind the image field I have always used another text field visible on screen but not in print That simply states, "place logo here".  This A.M. I had an update from Adobe that installed and now if I designate the field as visible on screen, it prints.  This is the simplest of forms and I am wondering if I may have inadvertantly changed a setting somewhere along the way that has deactivated this option.

  • Problem when printing from PDF created by InDesign

    Ok, here's the scenario!
I have a flyer, created in InDesign. I have drawn a grey curve (in InDesign) which goes at the top of each page.
I import a transparent logo in PSD format, and place it on top of the grey curve.
In InDesign and when I PDF it, it looks fine (at any zoom level).
However when I print it, there is a slight outline around the transparent logo and it has a slightly different shade of grey as its background (it stands out from the curve).
Does anyone know why this could be?  I also tried importing the logo with the same grey background as in InDesign but the same problem occurs.
    Any help appreciated!

If you can't select composite CMYK it means your printer isn't postscript, or you aren't using the postscript driver option if one is available.
Since this is a printer-related function, not a property of the file itself, you don't want to do anything to your pdf to compensate. That's the printer's job, if necessary, when he processes your PDF.

  • How do I add to a pdf created through InDesign?

I want to add some more text to a book cover that someone else created in InDesign. They only gave me a pdf. What's the best way to do it? Also, the new text has to be a specific yellow Pantone color.
    Thank you!

Place that PDF in a new InDesign document and add your text over the top of it...  To create the specific yellow colour use the swayches panel and menu.

  • PDF created with InDesign CS6, Helvetica Neue font, causes lower-case "r's" to be bold

The pdf was created from InDesign CS6 using Windows 7. I cannot recreate the problem on my machine, but it is happening on a coworker's machine. The only character affected is the lower-case r. It appears bold when viewing the pdf of his machine. I am also running Windows 7 and it looks fine to me. My boss is using a Mac and it also looks fine to her. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?

Hmm...until it's isolated to the 'r' it surely sounds like the typical effect often caused by the "Enhance Thin Lines" preference setting in Acrobat/Reader/browser-x-plugin, which most commonly affects l's and i's.
It's also true that various servings of Helvetica Neue are at the center of many such tales of woe.
I'd recommend some simple testing on the co-worker's computer with PDF's produced under the same conditions using different fonts; perhaps some varied weights of the same Helvetica Neue.

  • Acrobat pdfs created with Indesign CS3 cannot be searched

Our company uses Coldfusion (don't know anything about Coldfusion personally) to search pdfs of our magazine articles that we keep in an online library. Users can do keyword searches to find articles. Our system was created in about 1998.
It worked fine when we were using Quark 6, but pdfs made with Quark 7 documents were not searchable. Since pdfs made from Indesign CS2 documents worked, we switched to Indesign CS2 to solve the problem. Now that we have upgraded to CS3, however, they are no longer searchable. We are designers and don't know much about coldfusion. We just want to create pdfs that can be searched by our system and do not understand what changed from Quark6-Quark7 and from CS2 to CS3.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

These pdfs are all searchable in Acrobat (either version). They just don't work with our web server. I have tried saving them in Acrobat 5.
I have tried several configurations now. Indy CS2 files that are postscripted and distiled in either Acrobat Distiller 8 or Acrobat Distiller 7 work fine.
However, when I pdf directly from CS2, the files don't work. The document information for these files says they were created using "Adobe PDF Library 7.0"
No matter what I do (distill or pdf directly to either 7 or 8 versions of distiller)
Our Coldfusion was installed around 1997 or 98 and is in a different department of our company. We don't really have tech support for it that I know of. I have posted this question on the Coldfusion forum, but got no response.
Anyway, there seems to be something changed from Indesign CS2 to CS3 that makes these files incompatible. The distiller 7 or 8 files work fine that I created with CS2. I also don't understand the difference between created with "Adobe PDF Library 7.0" and creating with Distiller 7.

  • Problem with Buttons/Form Fields in Acrobat PDF when created in InDesign CS4

So I have been working for quite some time on an interactive form for an internal client at my job. It has two major components, one is the side bar navigation, which I created using buttons in InDesign which link to bookmarks in the document. The second aspect is that I also created "check boxes" accoring to this video: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/cs4/articles/lrvid4434_ds.html
    I have two major issues:
    1. Whenever I try to convert my boxes to form fields in Acrobat it will not recognize them unless I save out 4 pages at a time (rather than the whole document).
    2. I then have to combine the document and get multiple sets of bookmarks, and some bookamrks are corrupted (not working properly). Even when I try to convert the whole document some of the buttons are corrupted.
UGH tired of this project, I am really bastardizing the whole thing to get it done, but want to figure out the problem as this is an ongoing document that we will be using over and over again in future years.
I am attaching the pdf file--this is a pieced together one (saved out 4 pages at a time) (which I did do some fixes to to get buttons to go to proper locations) and the original indesign file (partial file due to size).
    PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP ME!

Acrobat's Form Wizard is good but not perfect when creating form data from a PDF. I have never encountered Acrobat not able to finish the process of creating all form fields, but have encountered very slugish performance afterwards when there was a lot of forms, buttons, and other elements within the pages. And I would say, from your attached PDF, it is pretty heavy with content. I am going to suggest an idea, but I have not tested this to see if it would work.
In InDesign, create a layer for your navigation tabs, and a layer for your text with the check boxes. Create two PDFs from ID, one PDF with just your-nav tabs, the second with just your text with check boxes. In Acrobat, perform the Form Wizard on the second PDF and see if this will finish, the idea here is to reduce the cllutter for the Form Wizard to finish. If it does, you can merge the first PDF as a layer with the second to have a completed document. Again, I have not tested this theory.

  • Opening a PDF in a specific page from a PDF created in indesign

Hello, I'm working with CS4 and I need you to click on a button, or from a "hyperlink" in a text, open a pdf file but for a given page.
I can not change the target pdf and also I have to access a single pdf into multiple pages, put an example
persone one speaks at the pdf 1, on page 14
person two speaking in pdf 1, on page 15
I wish that when you click on the person 1 opens pdf 1 on page 14, and when you click on the person 2 opens pdf 1 on page 15
    Thanks in advance
    mateo

Thanks, I had not noticed in the new dialogue coming out. Thank you very much. A greeting.
    Muchas gracias

    Rectification
ohhh, no, the page references are to an indesign document, not a PDF
I have not indesign files where you created the PDF to which I have to jump and I can not add bookmarks to pdf, pdf files are protected.
    thanks

  • Interactive PDF created in InDesign CS6 crashes Acrobat XI

Just finished laying out an interactive document in InDesign and exporting to as an interactive PDF to Acrobat. The document is 48 pages and has 3 pop-up TOC's for each of the 3 sections. There are several other hyperlinks, top and bottom nav menus. The document opens fine but when we try to open either of the TOCs Acrobat either crashes or the menu will pop up with buttons not visible. I have gone through the document several times and rechecked all button settings. Everything appears in order. The document navigates perfectly in SWF preview and when exported as a SWF or HTML. Can't figure out where the glitch is. I'm in the Cloud so have the latest versions of all software. The project is on a very tight deadline and is part of a presentation in 2 days. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Please help.

Made each menu item a separate text frame and created text anchors/destinations. In buttons and forms panel, set event to go to destination "on release or tap" and chose "hidden until triggered." For each menu there's also a close button. Set "show/hide" for menu items and close button and set the main button that opens the menu to "show" the entire TOC. Each of the TOCs are on their own layers. Very straightforward, nothing fancy.

  • User can't open a PDF created with Illustrator CS4

I'm creating a PDF in Illustrator CS4, and I save it on a server where the user can get it. User is not able to open the file, it says acces denied. When I email that same file to several users, they can open it without a problem. I have checked that there's no restrictions on accessibility on the folder or the file. I wonder if it has to do with windows user permissions...
Our IT guy couldn't find any problem ....
    Any clue?

  • Peculiar behavior in a PDF created in Indesign

    Hello,
I have a 20 page newsletter pdf with about 12 articles. At the top of the first page there's our text logo, and just below it is a table of contents compiled using table of contents styles (btw this pdf was compiled in Indesign 5.5) and just below that is the first article, then below that, the second.. and so on. At the bottom of each page there's a "return to the table of contents" button that shoots the reader back up to the TOC on the first page when clicked, in addition to a page number. There is also a header with the name of the publication and issue number..
the problem I'm having is, when scrolling through the first article on the first page with the down arrow key, once I get to the bottom of the first page, the cursor then shoots back up to the table of contents. WHat I would like it to do is just scroll down to the next page. Once I get to the bottom of the first page the second time, the cursor jumps down to the bottom of the second page, straight to the page number, a few more taps of the down arrow key takes the cursor up to the header on page 2
I'd like the down arrow scrolling to just go through the articles and skip the page numbers and other header/footer items. Any thoughts? I posted this initially in the Acrobat forums with no luck. Someone suggested toggling the Initiial view properties and Page Display Toolbar, but none of those solved my problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated..
What I'm thinking is just rasterizing the header and footer items so PDF readers dont see them as text, but that doesnt solve my TOC problem. Thanks in advanced

This is definitely what I want to do I can get it to work with a new pdf that I create but not with my current pdf.  When I try to create the xml I just get this.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <form1 xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/" xfa:dataNode="dataGroup"
    />
    Any thoughts?

  • Adjust standard font (Times new Roman) in an interactive pdf created in Indesign

Could anybody please help me out?
Is it possible (and if so, please tell me how) using Indesign CS6 for creating an interactive form:
    - to choose a font (i.e. arial) and have this being exported as interactive pdf (instead of the regular used font Times Newe Roman)
Thus having users to fill in this created form (interactive pdf) using the (by me chosen) font.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for your swift reply!
The funny thing is that; if I open the created pdf from Indesign in Acrobat Pro and try to make a change, my program collapse and shuts down...) :
