Pdf default viewer

How do I change my default viewer from Preview to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9? I do not like preview and I am used to Adobe.

Hello zcrsdad,
Hold down the "Control" key and double-click on any PDF file. A menu of options will appear. Select "Get Info.
Go to the "Open With" tab in the PDF info window.
Select the application you want to use to open PDF files in the "Open With" drop-down menu.
Click "Change All" and then "Continue.

  • PDF opens in Reader but Reader is not my default viewer

I have doPDF as one of my printers so I can create a PDF file. In Control Panel Folder Options, my default PDF viewer is set to Foxit. That is what I want. I have Acrobate Reader on my PC for the rare instances I NEED Acrobate Reader. When I select doPDF to create a PDF file, the generated PDF file is opened but it opens in Acrobate Reader instead of Foxit (doPDF opens the newly created file apparently for verification that the PDF was created). Since Foxit is my default viewer, why does the PDF open in Acrobate Reader instead of Foxit? (Neither the Foxit people nor the doPDF people know why).
BTW... When I select a PDF file in Windows Explorer, it opens in Foxit.
    In advance, Thanks

In Run type regedit and open following registry path(Second part may differ from machine to machine):
    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-762979615-2031575299-929701000-XXXXXX\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf
On the Right panel ,right click and Add "String Value" by the name "Application" and then Modify(Right Click) this "Application" and add Value data as the name of application by which you want open pdf file.Eg. If you want to make Acrobat as your default application ,put Acrobat.exe or put  AcroRd32.exe if you want Reader as your default app. Similarly put the name of corresponding .exe for other pdf Readers you have and you want to make a particular as your default app.For knowing the name of  exe of other Readers, just check in “OpenWithList” just below .pdf(on left).
I hope it can solve your problem

  • How do i Restore Preview as my default viewer when using Safari, seems adobe has hi jacked Safari,if i uninstall adobe safari will not open any pdf files.

How do i restore Preview as my default viewer.
Seems adobe has hi-jacked Safari and and opens using abobe not preview.
Have uninstalled adobe but safari then will not display any pdf files.
Preview still works fine to view existing downloaded files.

What kind of files?  PDFs?  or Others as well?
If you want Preview to open all PDFs, then find a PDF on your HD.
Highlight it, and then press the Apple/Comand key along with th letter " i " key.
When the window comes up, look down to the "Open with" line, and change it from Adobe to Preview.
Then look slightly below, and select "Change All."
Now, all PDFs should open with Preview.

  • Open external document (.pdf or .doc) in default viewer?

    Hello,
How do I open a document (.pdf or .doc) in the default viewer for that program type?
    Thanks.

This works if you can put up with a command prompt (minimised)...
Use the System Exec.vi from Connectivity->Libraries & Execuables. Use 'cmd /c "<path to file>"' as the command line. (It should run with 'start' but for some reason LabVIEW throws a memory error if you try that!?!?!)
Unfortunately this kicks off a command prompt window which i'm not sure how to hide (but can minimise it with the run mimimised input), but at least it also kicks off Acrobat (or whatever) to launch your pdf file.

  • How to make Adobe as your default viewer for all your PDF file instead of the Preview given? Thanks

How to make Adobe as your default viewer for all your PDF file instead of the Preview given? Thanks

you need to "Get Info" on the file first. Select it, right click and select 'Get Info' in the menu.
In the window that pops up, near the bottom, the "Open With" drop down menu needs changed. If the drop down menu does not present the one you want, select "Other" and find it.

    Hi paulletta1,
There are 2 ways for this :
    1. Please refer : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-default
    2. Launch Acrobat, Click on 'Edit' > 'Preferences'.
On the left pane select  'General', and then click on 'Default pdf handler'. Select 'Acrobat'
    Click 'Ok'

  • Preview as default viewer of pdf's in safari

After changing to Tiger and Safari 2, pdf's are not openend in preview, but in a new Safari window. If I want the pdf in Preview, I'll have to control-click it. However, the pdf then is not on my desktop, so that save as is not possible. How can I have Preview as my default viewing program with files being automatically downloaded on my desctop? This was possible in Safari 1.
    Any suggestions?

Quit Safari, load up '/Applications/Utilities/Terminal' and enter the following command to disable Safari's native PDF support..
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
Launch Safari and navigate to its Preferences section. Check the box which allows the automatic opening of 'safe' files. Set the default download location to be your desktop.

  • How to change default view in web plugin?

Anyone know how to set a default view in the Reader plugin in Firefox and/or IE?  I'm getting sick of having to manually show the task bar and then un-toggle touch mode to get my scroll bar back every time I open a PDF. Thanks!

Thanks! I turned off Touch mode there (Edit\Preferences\General --> set
    Touch Mode to "Never")
Then I poked around more and fixed the default view in
Edit\Preferences\Internet --> unchecked "Display in read mode by default"

Firefox no longer opens PDF files. Explorer works OK. I have checked the Applications window in the Tools/Options and it says I am using PDF-xChange viewer....It just does not do anything. I get the message in the Download Error window which says...."could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== After removing a old copy of PDF-xChange Viewer and updating to the last version

The error message suggests that the file (pdf) that you're trying to download cannot be saved in the folder Firefox tries to save it in.
This can be due to several things - it could be a non-existing folder (could be a problem with the updated application), the hard drive could be too full to store the file (less likely if you can generally surf the net without error messages) or it could contain an error.
To complicate things a little further, it seems to me that you have (at least) 3 different PDF-handling plugins in Firefox from different programs:
    PDF-XChange Viewer Netscape Gecko Plugin
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.3.2"
    Zeon PDF Plugin For Mozilla
This shouldn't matter too much, thou, as it will most likely simply use either the latest installed or the first one it finds when looking up associations for files of type 'pdf'.
First, in Tools > Options... > tab General > section File download, select "Save files in" and Browse your way to a (non-writeprotected!) folder on a drive where you're certain there is enough free space - like the Desktop folder to make the files end up on your Windows desktop.
Second, under Applications as you mention yourself, find all document types related to PDF files, and set these to one of the programs. Check the entire list to be sure there isn't one hiding under one of the other programs' document types (Adobe Acrobat document, PDF X-Change and Zeon).
Restart Firefox, and try opening a PDF again.
If it fails once more, try changing the documents again to one of the other programs, like "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
If it STILL fails, change it to simply "Save file". Then you can simply browse your way to the download folder with Windows Explorer, and doubleclick the PDF file to see which program actually handles PDF files as default on the machine, and if it works properly.
If Firefox flatly refuses to save the PDF files in a folder which you're certain both exist and has space for the file, some (probably security related) program is most likely interfering with Firefox, preventing it in storing PDF files on the system.

  • SOLVED: Limit default view with Multiple non-destructive filters mode

    This was solved:
I deleted the { subPaths: "word" } within my dataset. The dataset was pulling and displaying the subpath content which I don't need.
    ==================================================================
    Hi,
I’m using the Multiple Filters Mode Sample to filter headlines in my xml file by the keywords associated with them.
My question is, with no filters selected, how do you display only one headline for the default view? So, instead of the <headline> node repeating itself for every keyword within that node, it just displays one headline. I just want to display only one headline instead of repeating the headline based on the amount of keywords associated with it.
If you view the donut example given a donut is displayed for every topping associated with it.
I’m not as experienced with JS but I thought that if I create an array of all the possible keyword combinations and then use an if-then to display just one combination then it might work. The problem is that the amount of keywords will grow with time. I might amass 15-20 keywords in the next month, so an array might not be practical.
Also, my “Remove All Filters” doesn’t work. The debugger is giving me an error that states: ‘documents.forms.0.noneCB’ is null or not an object -This would mean that the checkbox has not been selected is this correct?
I’ve included the code and my xml data below. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    1) I deleted bridge-utils, netcfg
    2) I edited /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf:
    interface=wlan0
    #bridge=br0
    edited /etc/dnsmasq.conf:
    interface=wlan0
    dhcp-range=192.168.0.2,192.168.0.255,255.255.255.0,24h
    and edited /etc/rc.local:
    ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    3) I added in autostart these daemons: hostapd, dnsmasq and iptables.
    Profit!

  • Acrobat Standard 6.0 Set as Default Viewer, but Browser is looking for Adobe Reader 8 or 9

    All,
I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for viewing and creating PDF's.  Just a couple of days ago, I tried opening a patent document I found on Google.  The browser displayed the following error:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
So I looked for an update for Adobe Reader and downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
The next PDF document that I opened came up in Adobe Reader....NOT Adobe Acrobat.  The installation must have changed the default viewer.  So I right-clicked on the PDF file icon and selected OPEN WITH Adobe Acrobat.  I clicked the checkbox to "Always open with this program..."  This seems to have fixed the default viewer problem, as PDF files now open with Adobe Acrobat Standard...just the way I want things to work.
I still have the problem of not being able to open many documents within a browser...I think because the browser is looking to open the PDF files in Adobe Reader 9.1.2, NOT Acrobat 6.0.  But Adobe Acrobat is now the default viewer.
Does Acrobat function independently of Reader?  Or is Reader a module that is required for Acrobat to function properly?  Whatever the case may be, can somebody suggest a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Neal
    [email address deleted by host]

They do not require each other for running as mentioned. There are some modules in common and that is where you run into problems. There are issues with the parts that remain resident also. I would suggest you follow the other advice you have been given. Unfortunately, there are some PDFs that may not open correctly in AA6. You may have run into some of those.

  • How to set default view and commands

I have Acrobat Standard 9, and I wish to set the default for opening files to a full page view with one-page-at-a-time scrolling.  I routinely open many PDF files and have to scroll through the entire document.
I managed to get the full page view to work, but not the full page scrolling .  Currently, when I open the document, the mouse wheel scrolls the document continuously several lines at a time.  What I want is for the mouse wheel to scroll the document one full page at a time (page up/page down).  I can manually set this by selecting the "Full Page" button on the tool bar (the one with the four arrows), however this is another step I have to perform each time I open a document.
Is there any way to set the full-page scroll by default?

Thank you for your help with this.
Although I can not fix the default view, changing the document properties at least allows me to regulate how it opens the next time.  (Almost as good).
If anyone from Adobe reads this, a tip for the next version: Please include a setting that would include a forced default view.

  • Is there a way to save the Autoscroll as the default view in Acrobat X?

I am trying to save autoscroll as the default view in acrobat.

  • Prevent pdf initial view settings from disabling my menu bar

Some pdf files are configured with initial view settings to remove my menu bar and other toolbars. This is incredibly intrusive, and difficult to get those back unless you know the correct keyboard shortcuts. Most users don't.
So please tell me how to permanently disable pdf files from asserting their own initial view settings on my viewing environment. I do not want to permit them to take over my window and get rid of my menu bars. I find that behaviour incredibly annoying.
    Thanks

Sorry, you can set the default view parameters only for documents that the author has not specified a view option for.
You might be able to write a plug-in that could change the open document action.
Have you tried contacting the authors about this issue?
