PDF export problem in Pages/Keynote/Preview

I am having some problems with PDF exports (and "Print as PDF")  from Pages (as well as Keynote and Preview).  Here is my situation:
I am creating a PDF of a barchart+legend from the program Mathematica.  I suspect the way the exported PDF is formatted is that the chart and legend are two blocks within the PDF.  This PDF opens perfectly in Preview and Adobe Reader, and imports perfectly into Pages and Keynote.  However, when the Pages/Keynote document is exported to PDF or printed to PDF, the resulting file opens fine in Preview but not in either the Mac or Windows version of Adobe Reader (part or all of the image fails to appear with a generic "An error exists on this page, please contact the author of this document to correct this problem" error message).  This also happens with the PDF is exported/printed as PDF from Preview itself - the resulting file opens fine in Preview but not with Acrobat.
Any suggestions?  While I could reconstruct the barcharts individually in Pages itself, for the sorts of documents I'm working on I could easily have dozens of PDFs to import for a single project, and it's much easier to export the files from Mathematica as the analysis is done than rebuild each one from scratch.

As far as I know, there is no provision for such settings in these programs.
Developer documentation for ICC colour management in Firefox 2, Firefox 3 and Firefox 3.5, see below. Firefox 3 has ICC colour management disabled by default. Firefox 3.5 has ICC colour management for images within which there is embedded an ICC source colour space profile. It is possible to set Firefox to colour manage the application windows as well as images with embedded ICC profiles. The developer documentation discusses how to do this in what sounds suspiciously like a command line / terminal tool, and also how to point Firefox 3.5 to the display profile. This in turn sounds suspiciously like Firefox 3.5 is unable to talk to the system level service and ask for the display profile automatically.
Camino and Opera ... I'll pass. I suspect it's more of the same mess.

  • PDF Export problems when viewing with Preview 4.2

    Hi Everyone,
I'm an Indesign novice for sure, so this may be fairly basic to a lot of you, but I'm having problems with a document of mine. I've built my portfolio in indesign using PNG images from my book. In Indesign I've applied the gradient feather to each image to give it a reflection. When I export the book with no compression, it's too large, so I've tried regular JPEG compression (at maximum) and JPEG 2000 compression at lossless and I get better file sizes, however when I view the PDF in preview there's 2 problems:
    1. The images look like crap no matter what with any compression applied. Very blurry, pixelated... generally looks like crap. In Acrobat, everything looks sharp and beautiful.
    2. The reflections don't exist at all. There's just an upside down version of the image there with no transparency whatsoever.
I need it to look good in both programs because it's impossible for me to control who's viewing my book in what program. It's so odd because a year ago when I built my portfolio in keynote, it looked beautiful in preview, but like crap in Acrobat.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I can understand the gradient feather not appearing properly, and I can build the reflections into the original PNG if I must, but any idea why the images look so bad? They look fuzzy, and far from sharp with ANY any compression. The only way an exported PDF looks ok in preview is if I export it with no compression at all. Yet when looked at in reader, they look sharp (even with compression).

  • PDF Export Problems

bei using interactive functions in inDesign CS5 and then exporting to pdf, I am able to see exactly everithing I wanted in AcrobatPro, but not in Adobe Reader. What can I do, so that anybody who uses Reader can see it too? Anybody knows?? Thanks

What is it that you can not see in Reader: button behavior, rollover effect,
    hyperlink, etc. ?
Wow, I am impressed about the fast reaction:-)
The interactive function I am using (unfortunately in German inDesign) is
"button" > Action: by letting go (?). It's a file with some 100 pages and
some 500 links. Exported as pdf interactive...
The effect In AcrobatPro: when clicking on the thumbnail the original
picture shows in a separate window without closing the original file. After
closing the new window, I could continue in the multipage file...
This is not happening in Adobe Reader. It says: the link was not found, and
here and then, when shown in e new window, the multipage file is closed...
    Hope this helps..
    Thanks Jaro
    PS
I did reply on the forum directly, but no success. There trying via mail.
    Hope it works:-)

Can someone help! PDF export failed claims "pages are too big" they are 8x10??
I'm trying to export an 100 page magazine, just a small proof right now and I've done this a million times. There are no errors, all my links are good but still it will not save.
    Can anyone help!

    Hi marthah,
I'd love to help, but need a little more information to go on. Are you converting from or to PDF, and where is this error occurring (in Acrobat, InDesign, or somewhere else)? What operating system/browser are you using?
    Thanks,

  • Three panel brochure pdf export problem

I've created a three panel brochure, using the Pages 2 template. I need to share this with Windows people (who will handle the actual printing), so I exported it to pdf format. It looks OK (and Apple automatically embeds the fonts, nice!). However, the printed version is slightly different, such that the folds don't work correctly (images and words cross the folds).
The pdf export prints perfectly from Preview, but not from Acrobat, which is what the Windows people have. Printing to pdf creates the same problem. Anybody know of a workaround to create the proper proportions for a pdf export? Thanks.
    G5/mirror G4/iBook/Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Stephen- Based on some other discussions I read, I did try printing to pdf-x. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem.
Barabara- As it turned out, Adobe Acrobat was not printing at 100% in either Windows or OS X. In the Windows print command window, page scaling was defaulted to "reduce to printer margins." This meant the document was printing at 96%. By changing page scaling to "none," the document printed to 100%, fixing the problem.
Likewise, in OS X, Adobe Acrobat's page scaling was also defaulted to "reduce to printer margins." This scaled the page to 93%, which caused the printing problem. By changing page scaling to "none" the document printed at 100%, fixing the problem. Thanks for the suggestion, which solved my problem.

thanks a lot for Your help. I have already talked to my IT department and they are looking for the solution of this problem, too.
Is there a documentation  about necessary settings in the browser to work with SAP NetWeaver Portal and Crystal reports?
The problem is that on some clients the PDF export is working and on another clients not. The settings of IE seem to be equal.

  • PDF Exporting Problem

    Hello everyone,
I hope not all of you are as frustrated as I am with Numbers 08'. I have problems with printing the entire document and can't seem to find the answer on the Numbers 08' forum, so I hope that would be addressed soon.
For my more imminent problem with Numbers now is that, when I export my document to PDF, the headers were all cut out. But when I print to PDF, it turns out just fine. But printing to PDF does not allow me to print the entire document to PDF, so I have to do it sheet by sheet and save each sheet with a different file name. Well, I am pretty frustrated with that.
Numbers is a very nice app, but I am quite surprised that simple and essential functions like priting the entire document and exporting are requiring so much effort from the users. This is not impressive at all.
    Help anyone?? Please Thank you.

Using the side bar drag all the tables to the same sheet. Check print View and move the tables around to make sure the pages look right for printing. Delete any unused columns & rows.
The printing, pdf export and page numbers (in the page footer) works on a per sheet basis.

  • PDF export - problems with displaying tables

    Hi,
I have nice and neat rtf template with some text and big table. It looks fine, but when I export it to PDF it starts the table from new page, not just below the text, which results in 75% blank page. How can I fix it?

We are using the PDF Export 8.3.7 version, and are having a similar problem. We have a Word file (.doc) with an embedded graphic. Inside the graphic is a table (the original graphic was created some where else and had text and a table, then an image was made of that which was then embedded as a graphic in the Word document). The problem is that the table does not render corretly - the last row of data is not displayed. Oddly, if in the resulting PDF/A output you highlight the region where the data should be displayed, and copy that to Word/Notepad, the data is there, the issue seems to be in rendering the data to make it visible in the rendered PDF/A output. We see other problems with tables in other files, for example some tables are rotated ninety degrees.
Will there be a fix to PDFExport anytime soon?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • StarOffice 8 (Update 9) PDF Export problems

I am using StarOffice 8 prupdate 9. I have been trying to export in PDF but I notived the following problems:
    1) When an 'area' (eg a basic shape) is filled with a color that is the same as the outline color BUT at a transparency level (say 50%) PDF exports this filled area with the same color as the outline and NO transparency.
    2) When I use connectors or Bezier curves, the bounding box of the curve overwrites whatever lies behind it.
On the screen, none of the above problems are visible, just when I export to PDF.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks ....
    Michael

Had to back out the patch. As soon as I did that, the spreadsheets all came back to normal. I don't have a StarOffice support contract, so I can't alert Sun to the problem that way. Not sure if Sun people ever read this, is there a bugreport address I can send the info to?

  • Export problems with pages/ save as word document results in corrupted text

This may be a new problem with Pages as I have not seen this happen with previous versions but, when I export a page made with a template, it ends up with merge problems - headers end up at the foot and invisible text regarding merge showing. When saved, a error box opens saying that merge fields are not save or similar, and I end up with a non friendly .doc file.

  • Converting Word to pdf. Problem with page breaks

I have Office 2007 and I am trying to convert a 100 page word document into pdf.  However, the pages are breaking different and I end up with more pages in the pdf document which causes problems with my table of contents and index.  Any advice on how to convert the Word doc exactly into pdf?  Thanks

Michael's reponse is correct. However, as far as I knew, OFFICE 2007 came with printer metrics turned off, meaning it is not supposed to be sensitive to the printer selection. The setting is buried in the options list for compatibility. If it is turned off and a change in printer does affect the result, it would appear just one more of the many things in OFFICE 2007 that MS messed up. The latest one for me has been helping students with the messed up equation editor when you want to add equation numbers in a "standard" way. One of the MS employees even wrote a workaround macro for that problem.

  • Exported PDF looks beautiful in Pages and Preview not in Acrobat Reader

Hi, I need a little help. I created an eBrochure in Pages which looks beautiful. When I export it to PDF, it looks amazing in Preview but not in Adobe Acrobat Reader; pictures doesn't look so bright and shiny, they loom more opaque. Also fonts look kind of weird. I went to Photoshop and tried to do it there, it looks better in Acrobat Reader but texts don't print as nice as the Pages one (photos do). So my problem I guess is with the photos on Pages... What can I do to ensure that my document created in Pages and exported to PDF can have the same quality in the Reader as it has in Preview?
Photos are in JPEG format and have a decent resolution I guess:
    File Size 1.4 MB
    With: 1200 pixels
    Height: 1800 pixels
    Resolution: 300 pixels/ inch
    Pixel Dimensions: 6.18M
    Pages computer is a MBA, 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.7, Pages '09 4.0.2
    Thanks.

  • PDF export problem

    Pages 09 - Lion - MBP
I used Pages to create a book of 180 pages with some images.
All the images (jpg) inside the text are with the cool apple tools like shadows and so on.
Everithing is perfect and nice. I exported to pdf and again everything seems to be perfect with preview.
With my great surprise this pdf file (portable document format) is not the same if viewed in others PC or also other MAC without Pages!
All the shadows and things like this are very bad or disappeared. That is really absurd! Is the PDF created with pages a NON standard PDF??
After several attempts I find out a complicated workaround:
    pages --> export to postcript
use acrobat distiller on a PC in order to transform the .ps file in a standard PDF . In this way everithing is perfect again but it seems to me really absurd and impossible that pages is not able to export in a pdf capable to work with all the "effects" that make pages so nice...
Is there any easy way to use pages and export a real pdf file without problem with the rest of the world?
    Thank you for your help

    > I was saying that iWork is not delivered as a professional tool and so it's not logical to hope to get it professional results.
The supported data structures in e-paper formats should capture (1) Unicode input and TrueType output settings for glyph runs, (2) ICC colourimetry input and ICC device profile output settings for colour worlds, and (3) W3 SGML/XML logical reading order for the output of the layout rendering order.
In other words, you find an e-paper document in abstract archival space by its character information (modified by language markup), open the e-paper document in a browser (e.g. Apple Safari, Apple Preview), and image the e-paper document by its colourimetry information.
There are any number of degrees of control over how the input of information and metainformation is mapped to image output, but if the input of information and metainformation is divorced from the image output, then the e-paper document is not accessible in abstract archival space.
The aim of ISO and ECMA standards for e-paper is to ensure the best possible embedding of the memory-based mapping between information, metainformation and image, moving from the input-creating software through the e-paper format to the output-consuming software.
Any and all applications in fact face the same sales situation: they are compelled to serve as channels for the same information and metainformation (in the encoding remits of the Unicode Consortium, the International Color Consortium, and the World Wide Web Consortium).
While the Consortia willing allow that an application may internally choose an information encoding other than the interchange encoding, the Consortia disallow that information is lost. For instance, this is stated in Unicode Specification version 1.0 of October 1991.
If as a user you work with system software in isolation from other software, nothing but the installed software is involved, then you can check if the system is conformant in the sense that it does not loose information, unless where loss of information is stated in documentation.
This is nothing to do with how products are named in marketing, but with how conformance to information processing interchange for computerised telecommunications is understood in industry specifications and international standards.
