PDF File not opening in browser for sharepoint 2010

Recently we have moved our web application from one server to another in Sharepoint 2010. Back up of entire web application was taken and restored in another server. But in the new server , the PDF files in the document library is not getting opened in browser.
it always open in browser
I have already made following changes but didn,t work
Set browser file handling to Permissive from central admin
Set "open in browser" in setting s of doc library
Set the doc library file handling property using $docLib = $web.lists["Your Document Library Title"] $docLib.BrowserFileHandling = "Permissive" $docLib.Update()
Added "AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeType.Add("Application/Pdf") in web app
Installed Adober eader in client machine
Even after trying all these, the PDF files are still opening in Client application(Adobe reader) but not in the browser
It would have been great help if anybody provide a solution for this. I have been banging head on this for two days

It would be handy if you didn't double post too.

To answer your question, you've tried most things that I normally see working, but there may be an extra solution here for you.  The solution 2 Powershell that deals with updating the Inline MimeType may help.

  • PDF Files Not Opening Within Browser(s)

    All PDF files that I try to view within a browser (Firefox or Explorer) get sent (downloaded to) my download folder called, Downloads.  In the past, I was able to view these files from within the browser...what I prefer to have happen.  Can someone tell me how to have the PDF's open when I click on their link from within a browser?  I am using the latest version of Acrobat Readeron a Windows 7 system running the Home Edition (64 bit).
    Thanks for any help - this has been frustrating

    Select a PDF you want to open, and right click on it.
    - Select Open with...
    - Select Chose default program
    - Select your browser (or expand the Other Programs and select your browser)
    - Make sure you check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option
    - Click OK
    - Double Click on your PDF.
    Tadaaaaaaaa!

  • Pdf file not opening on pushing fdf file with F key in Adobe  Reader

    Well i am a novice developer in case of PDF Development.
    The problem which i am facing is:-
    In our application a PDF document submits the data to server and server sends back FDF to client with f key as http path of PDF which is present on web server.
    This all works well in acrobat professional 7.0 but in abobe reader 8.0 the PDF file doesn't open up on pushing FDF.
    On debugging the problem i found out that if server sends response within 480 milliseconds then reader is showing the pdf otherwise it don't shows up.Since in our application it will always take more than this time because of several operation performed to serve the request posted to server,So the
    PDF will never show up in case of reader.
    I was unable to understand what make it special in acrobat professional that session lasts more than 480 milliseconds whereas in reader the session doesn't last that long.
    I really need uregent help on this.
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Blank error message with ? appears and PDF does not open in Browser (IE11) when clicking link to open pdf. PC - IE11 Acrobat 9.0

    Blank error message with ? appears and PDF does not open in Browser (IE11) when clicking link to open pdf. PC - IE11 Acrobat 9.0
    Cannot access in browser PDF files unless blank box is closed and then website address is clicked on again in browser address bar and page reloaded.
    Uninstalled Acrobat 9, reinstalled, still same problem.
    Help please!

    Yes I can it only happens in the browser..
    I reinstalled Windows on my machine and started over a couple of weeks ago.
    When my desktop started up I didn’t have Acrobat installed and clicked on a pdf file and the open with xxx dialogue box came open.
    I chose a different program as Acrobat wasn’t installed yet so it associated pdf files with another program.
    Later Installed Acrobat and couldn’t associate the pdf file with acrobat so I went into Folder Options and manually associated PDF files with Acrobat.
    Ever since then I get the error when something is downloaded and opened in the browser.
    Works fine everywhere else and when I cancel the blank error, highlight the web address and press enter to reload it works 90% of the time.
    Not sure what to do..

  • Problems getting files to open in browser from SP 2010 search results page

    We are in day 4 of having upgraded from MOSS 2007 to SharePoitn 2010 via database attach.
    When a user looks in their document library, and clicks on a PDF, they are asked if they want to check out and open or just open, and when they make the selection, acrobat reader opens the doc.
    When a user performs a search on the same library, and clicks on a PDF in the results page, the user is prompted if they wish to download the file, and then, after they save it, the file is downloaded and nothing else happens.
    The users do not want their disks filled with unnecessary copies of files.
    Note that I did add an "application/pdf" mime type to the allowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes property .
    This is only occuring when using the download results page.
    Does anyone know a fix for this?
    Thank you.

    Hi lwvirden,
    Generally, if the PDF is added to the Web Application's AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes property , the PDF files will open in browser when clicking them regardless of on the search result page or the document library.
    I recommend to delete the PDF from the Web Application's AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes property and then re-add it to see if the issue still occurs.
    Here is a table summarizes the various PDF rendering behaviors in search and library in the link below(same for SharePoint 2010):

  • Date picker is not working in IE9 for sharepoint 2010 appliation pages

    Hi,
    Date picker not working  in IE9 for sharepoint 2010 appliation pages. We have enabled custom master page.
    Thanks in advance.
    Shameej

    Hi,
    For this issue, you can add the following line of code into the pickerdialog.master which lays in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS
    <meta http-equiv=”x-ua-compatible” content=”IE=8”>
    Or we can use the JavaScript code provided in this blog which would also do the trick:

  • .pdf file not opening in Illustrator CS5

    All of a sudden, I cannot get ,pdf files to open in Illustrator CS5. what would cause this?
    Thanks

    Jeremy,
    Or you may go further down the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    Edit: Hi Steve. Whatever was white is less so now.

  • Pdf files not opening in Adobe Reader

    As of 3weeks ago, all of my Pdf files are opening in Corel X3. How can I fix this?

    tdanfield wrote:
    the uninstall and re-install may work, but i'm not sure that it's the "easiest" way.  it's not difficult, and it's good to know in general how to "associate" a program with a certain type of file as noted above.  that approach is more "universal" and "applicable" for nearly all future needs.
    That may be correct for advanced users, especially if they know that they may also need to re-associate other Adobe Reader file types such as FDF, PDFX, PDX, etc.

  • Tricky - PDF file not Opening from Web Browser based application

    Hi Guys,
    Just a brief history about the issue:
    At my client site everything was fine when IE7 was there and everybody were able to open PDF files from web applications in browsers. But after a IE8 upgrade, things changed and customers are facing problems. All are Windows XP SP3 machines
    Issue: If they try to open a pdf file from the browser it just stucks at 0% and hangs with "Cancel" button. Even if they try to save that file it tell downloading and hangs again in the screen without downloading the file.
    Initial fix:
    Open Adobe Reader
    -> select the menu "Edit"
    -> select "Preferences"
    -> select the Category "Internet"
    -> set the indicator "Display PDF in browser"
    -> Reboot the machine
    This fix worrked for some people but many user are still experiencing the same thing even after changing the setting many times.
    Friends, Is there anything else might be creating the trouble here. Please let me know, and why it is that for some systems it is working and for it is not ?
    Thanks,

    There was a browser bug with IE in the past that seemed to span several browser versions.  It had to do with the interaction of the browser and the webserver.  The short version is that I had to toggle the caching option on the folder.
    Here's what I ended up doing for my client:
    Move their PDF documents into a subfolder called forms and all Flash animations into a subfolder called flash
    Marked all folders in the site to "Expire Immediately" (IIS -> highlight root folder -> Properties)
    Individually marked the "/forms" and "/flash" folders to toggle this caching option
    In this way, it allowed dynamic pages to deliver non-cached content (from the server's perspective) and it allowed binary downloads like Flash animations and PDF files to work as expected without errors.  The bug has to do with the cache-negotiation handshaking that goes on between the browser and server.
    This may not be what you're seeing but it's good to remember because I've seen it often:  the settings that you'd use to optimize a web applications don't seem to work for binary downloads like a PDF document.

  • Why are my ".pdf" files not opening in Creative Cloud? The tumbril shows up as a blank page!

    I just switched over from Adobe Acrobat Cloud to Creative Cloud; a tedious task. Most of my files open up fine, but some of them show up as a blank page thumb nail. They do have ".pdf" extension. Any ideas as to why this is happening, and what I can do to correct the issue?
    Ty

    @masood131 - A few questions:
    Are the pdf files without a thumbnail password protected? (Probably not but just checking since we will not be able to provide a preview for such a file).
    If you click on the blank thumbnail to view the individual file page do you see a larger preview image, or is that blank too?
    If you refresh the browser page does the thumbnail image show?
    If you upload the file a second time do you see a thumbnail image?
    If there is a problem with a specific file feel free to share a link with me via a private message and I can investigate further.

  • PDF files wont open in browser after i uninstalled in control panel and re-installed.

    this all stemed from trying to update flash player but right now it i need reader to work more urgently.
    i got the flash player update request, clicked update but the update wouldnt complete so i STUPIDLY un installed it in the control panel. i didnt realise that i should have done this with an installer! it was a couple of week ago so im not sure if i only uninstalled flash player or if it was acrobat or reader aswell but i must of done something completely wrong. so when i came across the site where i need to open a form in a browser window that uses PDF it tells me that i dont have adobe reader installed. so i download and tried to install the lastest version of reader but got about 43% done and it told me the intallation timed out. this happened a couple of times. finally a couple of hours ago the installation managed to complete and i can open PDF files in it but it is still saying on the website that i dont have reader installed. this sites min req is version 5 or over.
    please please help! im kinda lost!

    Your suggestion did not work for me (WIN XP PRO with either I.E. 8 or Firefox 3.0.9).
    I also disabled Acrobat add-in in Firefox without success (I even renamed nppdf32.dll in firefox\plugins)
    In Internet Explorer I found 3 different plugins and disabled all of them without success, but now I have an indication error message; this is my translation from Italian: "Program Execution Protection stopped the program to protect the system from possible damage"
    Also in internet explorer\plugins I renamed nppdf32.dll without any better result.
    I tried also to rename the files acroiehelpershim.dll and acroiehelper.dll in programs\commonfiles\adobe\acrobat\activex but this was not possible because the files are in use (even after rebooting).

  • Open pdf's, documents in new browser window SharePoint 2010

    Hi all,
    when a user clicks on pdf's, documents, html pages etc in a document library I need them to open in a new browser window. I've found lots of articles on how to do it in 2007 but none work in 2010. I know its not an out of the box function but people
    have done it with Java script or adding code to the document library allitems.aspx web part, I just can't replicate those steps in 2010.
    I'm not a developer or anything but can put code in the right place using SharePoint designer 2010.
    Pulling my hair out at the mo,
    please help
    thanks in advance

    Create a Document Library called ScriptLibrary.
    Download the Jquery library here: http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-1.4.4.min.js
    Create a new file called: OpenPDF.js
    Paste the following Code in the file:
    $("A[href$=.pdf]").click(function() {
          window.open(this.href);
    Upload both files to your newly created ScriptLibrary.
    The ScriptLibrary should have 2 files: jquery-1.4.4.min.js and OpenPDF.js
    Navigate to the List Page that has the PDF's that you need opened in a new window.
    Click Site Actions: Edit Page,
    Insert > Content Editor WebPart
    Click to Edit the HTML Source of the HTML WebPart, then paste in the following to reference the two files you uploaded to your Script Library:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/ScriptLibrary/jquery-1.4.4.min.js" ></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/ScriptLibrary/OpenPDF.js" ></script>
    *The src needs to point to the files you uploaded
    Save the page then click on a PDF, it should open in a new window.
    You can then export that ContentEditorWebPart to your webpart gallery, and just insert the webpart on any page that needs the same functionality.

  • Yahoo! Geocities preventing pdf files from opening in browser

    This is for information
    I have a web site hosted by Yahoo!Geocities. For some time I have noticed that pdf files mounted on the site will not open in an IE or Firefox browser window. Instead they bring up a pop up window asking what to do with the files. I found that the reason for this was that Geocities was serving the files with incorrect MIME type headers.
    A Geocities spokesman has stated that this is a deliberate policy because of pdf security vulnerabilities and that I could pay them lots more to have a web hosting plan that didn't cripple pdf files.
    I think that this is something that Adobe should take up with Geocities.

    Isn't there a way of zipping the file with the OS or do I need a standalone program to do it?
    Command-click on the file you want to Zip and select "Create Archive of <filename>.
