PDF file not showing context

After upgrading to ML I have recived a PDF that if I open with Preview only shows me part of the info (layout tables and bullets) but the text does not show!
The text works for the windows users and I can see it in OmniGraffle.
Anyone an idea what's wrong?
Is it the PDF (i.e. the user who made it) or has it got to do with limitations within preview?
Kind regards,
Dani

Please post a sample of the PDF file itself. If you are not embedding the font in the PDF file, but the PDF file doesn't properly provide the font's name, this symptom will occur. Give as a link to the file and we'll take a look at if for you.

  • PDF file not showing correctly in Preview or other apps

    Hi,
    I've trying to find an answer to my question for some time now on the internet, but couldn't find it anywhere. When I open a pdf file from someone who created it using Windows diagrams that are supposed to be Matrices are not showing properly. Most probably the matrices were created using the equation builder in MOffice.
    <-- this is supposed to be a matrix
    There is also a problem with showing symbols like subscripted or superscripted letters (Arrows represent superscripted or subscripted letters, either up or down):
    And for some reason, when I try to quicklook the file, some pages are displayed incorrectly - only showing a quarter of the page:
    Any help on this? Is there some sort of an update to solve this problem, or should I download additional fonts??
    I am using a Macbook Alu from 2008 with OS X Maverick installed - all latest updates are installed.. (However the same problem appeared when using an iPad)
    Thanks a lot i advance!

    Hi Carolyn,
    I looked at your file and it seems the problem is with the resolution. The design is great but the resolution was too low.
    Fortunately your Apple Smart Object was high resolution so I was able to increase the resolution of the file as it is. You will need to replace the Bar Code and possibly the little flower on the back cover with high res versions.
    In the future you need to start with the document being sized right and the resolution at 300 ppi. Make sure your graphics are high resolution from the start as well. You can't regain resolution that was left out, although using High Resolution Smart Objects can give you the the latitude you need to size back up.
    After I sent the file I looked closely at the font. The one font you used does have zaggies but it's supposed to. Bradley Hand ITC TT is kind of a rough font around the edges by design. If this is what seems to be the problem, you will need to change to another font. Still, the file needed to be higher resolution.
    I sent one back to you in high res. All you need to do is replace the bar code and the little flower with high res version. The apple graphic smart object was high enough.

  • Why do changes to a .pdf file not show up in iBooks?

    I have a number of important and useful documents in .pdf format that are stored in iBooks on my iPad.  I added a new document to the iTunes library and then synced the iPad.  Voila!  The new document showed up in the PDFs section of the iBooks collections.  Then, I recognized that I needed to update some information in the document, so I opened the original (on my Mac) in Adobe Acrobat and added a few comments using the Typewriter tool.  I then reimported it to the library in iTunes, then synced the iPad again.  My added material was not in the document as it appeared in iBooks.  OK, I deleted it from iTunes, synced the iPad again and the file was gone from iBooks, as I intended.  I then reimported the new file with the added material into the iTunes library and synced again.  The file still did not show my added material.  I can look at the file in iTunes, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, even Preview and the file looks fine.  I even changed the file name.  The only place it does not look right is in iBooks.  I can print it in any of the aforementioned applications and it looks fine.  I suppose I could print it, scan it and then import it to iTunes yet again, but that seems to be kind of a stupid workaround.
    I have done everything I can possibly think of.  I have deleted the file from iBooks on the iPad, then deleted the file from iTunes, restarted, burrowed into the iTunes Library file (Users->myname->Music->iTunes->iTunes Music->Books->filename) and deleted the file directly from there and then emptied the Trash, restarted the iPad after deleting the file from iBooks, tried adding the information as a text box in Acrobat (instead of using the Typewriter), I've shaken my fist repeatedly, burned some white sage, even considered throwing my iPad across the room.
    In desperation, I finally printed and scanned the page I needed, then opened the original file in Acrobat, added the new page and deleted the old one.  Then, I reimported the file into iTunes and synced the iPad.  Now I have what I need with the same file name as before.  It's actually the same file, just modified by swapping pages.  But, why in the **** can I not just add what I want to that particular page using Acrobat and then reimport that?
    I am not a newbie.  I still have my old Mac Plus out in the garage.  I use Acrobat, Photoshop, Bridge and InDesign on a regular basis, so I am no stranger to Adobe products.  Am I missing something?  Something unbelievably simple?
    (OK, deep, cleansing yoga breath...)
    Even though I found a workaround, I'd still like to know why I couldn't do what I wanted to do.

    Thanks, Demo, I'll give that a shot. On the other hand, I really don't want to have some files in iBooks and other ones in Adobe Reader. If Adobe Reader will let me organize them in folders, it might be a great solution.
    However, there's no ".pdf management" involved here. It's simply "Read the #%€\#^% .pdf file I gave you" and there is nothing to "manage". Whatever opinions Apple has about Adobe, .pdf is a fact of life and should not require any handstands and backsprings just to read a file. (Are you listening, Apple?) I refinanced my home with .pdf files; print it, sign it, scan it, e-mail it back. (OK, calm down, it'll be all right... Sigh...)
    Whatever the result, I'll report back.
    Thanks again.

  • ,pdf files not showing in iTunes podcast

    I have always successfully included .pdf files as accompanying notes for my students' enhanced podcasts. It's always worked very smoothly and well - up to Feb 2009. Since then this function has ceased to be successful. I have had to create a separate page in my iWeb site for downloading .pdf files. Its a real pain for students as they can't get thei9r notes simultaneously with the podcast lecture. Can anyone please advise? Thanks

    I am having the same problem with iWeb. This feature used to work. I confirmed that this is not an iTunes issue because I am successfully posting PDF files from another podcast publishing tool and it shows up as intended fine iTunes.

  • PDF files not in context route

    Hi,
    I have several pdf files that I would like to make avaiable over the web. However, I don't want anyone to be able to see them by guessing the URL.
    Therefore I would like the files to be stored (on the web-server), but not in the context root of the URL.
    Does anyone know how these can be displayed upon clicking a link. e.g.
    pdf file
    I've seen comments in other posting about needing another servlet that outputs the pdf. But i'm not quite sure where to begin!
    Can anyone help? Or is there a much better/easier way?
    Thanks

    Yes doing this with a servlet surely works.
    Have a servlet which accepts a single request parameter filename and outputs that file. The service method of the servlet can be like this.
    public void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException {
    if (request.getParameter("fileName") != null) {
    String fileName = request.getParameter("fileName");
    String filePath = "folder-path/" + fileName;
    try {
    File file = new File(filePath);
    FileInputStream is = new FileInputStream(file);
    ServletOutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    response.addHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileName);
    int c;
    while ((c = is.read()) != -1) {
    os.write(c);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Error downloading file.");
    In the above code replace folder-path with the absolute path of the folder where the pdf files are kept.
    For a pdf file xyz.pdf call the above servlet with the url
    http://server/path-to-servlet?fileName=xyz.pdf
    Hope this helps

  • Images on a pdf file not showing on iPad

    I received an email with an attached PDF file.  When I open the 250 kb PDF file with 7 pages I do not see any of the images on the document,  If I open the same PDF file on my Mac the images are on the document.  I have tried opening this PDF file on my iPad by just pressing on the attachment icon and holding my finger on the attachment icon and then selecting Quick Look and "Open with" PDFReader Pro and GoodReader (both apps on my iPad).  None of these options show the images

    I'm having a similar issue. I have a PDF form for clients to fill out on the iPad that they submit and goes to my email. Well when I check the email on a mobile device (iPhone 4 or iPad 2) the PDF is there but all the fields are blank! If I check the same email from my desktop or lap top the fields are filled in! I can't figure it out, anyone please help:)

  • PDF files not showing in Safari Windows

    When clicking on a link to a pdf file (example: <a href = 'xxx.pdf'>
    I get a blank window.
    Have Acrobat Pro, latest version installed.
    Is there a special process to install it in Safari? (Windows)
    Note: there is a Plugins folder in the Safari app folder, but inside it there iare only two Java plugins.
    Maybe the reader is not installed in Safari, if not, how would I install the reader for Safari Windows only?

  • PDF files Not showing previews

    I recently got a new computer with Windows 8.  I installed adobe reader.  Unfortunately, none of my PDF files show the preview, as they once had on my old PC. (see image below) I've checked my folder properties and the settings are correct.  Is there anyway to fix this?

    What PDF viewer are you using for your interactive PDF (Reader, Acrobat, Preview, other)? Did you set a preview in the InDesign Media panel (the default is None)?

  • Acrobat PDF file not showing any character "i" only after an "f"

    I have a file that was provided from an unknown origin.  The original PDF is good.  After using Acrobat Pro, 11 - every lower case letter "i" if used after a character "f" is missing.  Therefore the view shows this:  "See f gure #", or "the proper conf guration is", or "in case of f re".  The font is Times Roman.  The "i" character in error can be searched by using a copy paste of the bad character into the search field dialog box.  It can't be replaced however  - with a good "i" - by performing a search and replace.  The (for lack of a better phrase) "invisible i" can be deleted and a new "i" inserted, but by performing a search, I have 6,700 of them.  Doing them individually isn't an option.  This document has gone through at least three editors hands, and re-doing what they so painstakingly did - and losing a large amount of work for what appears to be a software glitch is not the preferred option.
    I've tried saving as prior versions of PDF, messed with Preflight, printed to a pdf, used different views, embedded / unembedded fonts.
    There has got to be a fix for this.
    Please help, and thank you.

    Adding fuel to the fire...    In a document that uses Times  Roman as the font, the "i"s have been changed to Minion Pro.  Upon further review, all letter "L" - lowercase is also missing, but only after the character "f".  A document that says "have a safe flight"  now says "have a safe f ight" and the word "reflected" is now "ref ected".  The character "lower case L - l " has been changed to the font - Dutch 801 SWA.
    I cannot select any of the invisible characters and change the font - as the fonts are greyed out.
    Gotta be a fix...  this is really bad, and not user error.

  • Pdf file not opening on pushing fdf file with F key in Adobe  Reader

    Well i am a novice developer in case of PDF Development.
    The problem which i am facing is:-
    In our application a PDF document submits the data to server and server sends back FDF to client with f key as http path of PDF which is present on web server.
    This all works well in acrobat professional 7.0 but in abobe reader 8.0 the PDF file doesn't open up on pushing FDF.
    On debugging the problem i found out that if server sends response within 480 milliseconds then reader is showing the pdf otherwise it don't shows up.Since in our application it will always take more than this time because of several operation performed to serve the request posted to server,So the
    PDF will never show up in case of reader.
    I was unable to understand what make it special in acrobat professional that session lasts more than 480 milliseconds whereas in reader the session doesn't last that long.
    I really need uregent help on this.
    Thanks in advance for help.

    It would be handy if you didn't double post too.

    To answer your question, you've tried most things that I normally see working, but there may be an extra solution here for you.  The solution 2 Powershell that deals with updating the Inline MimeType may help.

  • PDF does not show up

    Hi all,
    The following is my code snippet in JSP for a project which i used to generate a PDF file. But the PDF does not show up . The Adobe loads and i get a pop-up saying
    'Acrobat could not open 'Example[1].pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted.'
    This is the code snippet i used:
    <%@ page import="java.io.*" %>
    <%
    String s = new String("Hai this is PDF Sample");
    byte file[] = s.getBytes();
    try
    BufferedInputStream inputStream = new BufferedInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(file));
    BufferedOutputStream outputStream = new BufferedOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
    response.setHeader ("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Example.pdf");
    response.setContentType("application/pdf ; charset=iso-8859-1");
    int bytes = 0;
    byte buffer[] = new byte[1024];
    while((bytes = inputStream.read(buffer)) != -1)
    outputStream.write(buffer,0,bytes);
    inputStream.close();
    outputStream.flush();
    outputStream.close();
    }catch
    (Exception e){}
