PDF File Thumbnails?

Hi,
Can't see PDF file thumbnails in Android File Explorers, it only shows the Adobe PDF symbol for all files. How can I see the Thumbnails as seen in Windows Explorer? I'm using a Galaxy Note 10.1.
Thanks for help in advance.

Hi,
Before generating a thumbnail the repository manager checks whether a thumbnail of the required size already exists in /~system/thumbnails. If the check reveals that the object has been modified, a new thumbnail is generated.
When a folder than contains thumbnails is called up, the browser firstly loads the HTML text and then the thumbnails are loaded from the system folder. This means that you can continue with navigation even if the thumbnails have not yet been fully loaded.
The generation of a thumbnail is terminated automatically if more than 60 seconds is needed.
The content of objects is loaded to the working memory of the portal server for the generation of thumbnails. To restrict the amount of memory that is needed, you can define a maximum file size for objects from which thumbnails can be generated. You do this in the configuration of the plug-ins. If the object is larger than the defined size, no thumbnail is generated. Instead, the default symbol is displayed in the explorer.
There is a property in Plug-ins for Thumbnails like:-
Maximum File Size to Generate Thumbnail :- Maximum size of a file from which a thumbnail can be generated. If this value is exceeded, the system does not generate a thumbnail from the file. Instead, it uses the default symbol.
Hope this clarifies why no Thumbnail is generated for ur PDF.

  • Table of contents in PDF files

IBooks gives two options for displaying the Table of Contents for PDF files—thumbnails or a conventional table. The thumbnails view is useless to me, and I would like the conventional table view to appear by default. Unfortunately, the TOC almost always appears in thumbnails view, and I have to manually select the list view.
Is there any way to set the list view as the default TOC view for PDF files?
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
When you combine files into a single PDF, each file you include will have a bookmark in the Bookmarks panel in Acrobat/Reader. So, I suppose you could treat that as a Table of Contents. (It doesn't, however, create a separate TOC and append it to the file.) The bookmark names reflect the filename of each file you combined.
I hope that answers your question.
    Best,
    Sara

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself.  I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so  no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

  • Is there a way to have the thumbnail pane automatically open when opening a pdf file?

I'm using Adobe Reader X and I would like to have the thumbnail preview automatically open when opning a pdf file. I know there is a setting to remember view layouts but this is set for the currently open document and not in general. Thanks in advance,
    Regards
    Robert

A particular file can have this setting, so each time you open it you see the thumbnails. The bad news is:
    - this would have to be changed per file
    - this requires the Acrobat product, not just the free Reader.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 - Disable thumbnail preview in PDF file icons on Desktop

After upgrading to Acrobat Pro 9, the file icons of PDF files on my Windows 7  desktop changed to showing a thumbnail preview. I want to get the standard PDF file icon back for all PDF files. Can someone please tell me how?
    Thanks.

Did you ever find an answer for this??? I had the same issue and was searching for an answer. I saw this and since I fixed mine I thought I would tell you what I did. Also, in case someone else finds this and needs an answer.
Opened Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options
    Go to the View tab
Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
    Hit Apply
All your PDF files on your desktop should now show with the generic PDF icon.
Reverse this to get the preview icon "thumbnails".

  • Possible to generate xmp thumbnails for PDF files in Acrobat?

    Hi,
Apps from the Creative Suite 5.5 allow to embed a tiny preview (as XMP thumbnail) when saving to some .ai .indd or .pdf file. However, I could not find the option in Acrobat X Pro.
Such XMP thumbnails prove useful when visually browsing through PDF documents in Windows' explorer. I'm surprised Acrobat X lacks such a feature whereas other apps from the Suite do it fine.
Please not I'm not talking about embedding page previews, this is a completely different topic.

  • I don't see thumbnails for PDF files in my Windows Explorer

    Hi,
When browsing through my File Manager to look for files, I used to be able to see a thumbnail of any PDF files I'd saved.
I can still see the old ones created earlier, but my more recent files just show a black square with the Adobe 'A' in bottom right hand corner or sometimes a large Adobe 'A' on white field with "PDF" in top left corner.
Seeing a thumbnail I think helps to find your file. Does anyone know why I don't get them any more or how to get them back. (The save a thumbnail option is checked for normal word docs, but not visible when saving as PDF.
I am using Mic Office 2010 (Word) to save as PDF. My computer is Windows 7 64bit.
Interesting, I can see a preview of PDF files which is a help, but not individual thumbnails for my more recent files....can still see them for older, longer ago saved PDFs.
    Added info:
Just checked, I last had thumbnails in December 2011, January 2012 I stopped getting them.
Tried to insert a picture to show you what I get in explorer, but just get a big dark grey square so I'll explain. Just worked out the following.
Prior to end of 2011 my PDFs have a thumbnail.
After that I just have a black square with the Adobe 'A' in bottom right hand corner if I create PDF with Word
If I do 'Save As' while in the reader I get a large Adobe 'A' on white field with "PDF" in top left corner

NO, NOT THAT SIMPLE, now I find some normal thumbnails later in 2012, so the behaviour is changeable!!!!!

Have you tried a System Restore to a time before the change occurred?

  • How do I include images in text as zoomable thumbnails in a pdf file?

I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro, and MS word, which is my usually set up for pdf files.
I to write an essay that is limited to 2 pages, to save space, I want to create a clickable thumbnails in the text, that will simply display a full picture when I click it.
    1) How I techanical do that?
    2) What is best practise? I don't expect for my teachers to be prepared for a click able picture, so don't want them to overlook that they can see the actual full picture.
    Thnx

You are more likely to receive advice on this if you ask in the Acrobat forum.  This is the Adobe Reader forum.

  • Thumbnail view of local network .pdf files on iPad?

Problem: I have about 250+ Lego Building Instructions saved on my MacPro.  My kids like to rebuild the sets and I'm looking for a way to view these form our iPads WITHOUT me having to sync them.
Is there any app that offers a visual/thumbnail view of local network pdf files?
I'm aware that I could upload them all to Dropbox, but even then I was not able to find a visual view in the Dropbox app.  And, since there is no need to go up to a cloud I'd like to avoid that step.
I would rather not have them even kept on the iPads but rather just have the iPads view the copy from my hard drive and then trash it on close off said magical app.
    Any suggestions?

    no one?  nothing?  anyone?  anything?

  • Printing to pdf file - only prints in thumbnail size

Using Adobe Reader ver 10 and it will only create pdf (print) in thumbnail size. How can it be configured to create in full size 81/2 x 11?  Using Scansoft Create to create pdf files from word 2007.  Could the the scansoft printer driver be the problem.  Using PDF CREATE ver 5.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You need to ask in a ScanSoft forum. This is not an Adobe product and as already mentioned, Reader can not create a PDF. Also be aware this is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum.

  • Thumbnail preview is not working for pdf file in KM

    Hi Experts,
I have upload one pdf file. I have changed profile of one KM content folder from System Default to Thumbnails(For that Click on context menu of folder-> settings-> presentation->click on Select Profile ->check on Thumbnails-> Click on OK) but it is not changed. Rest of other file format's(gif etc) icon is changing.
    Regards,
    Viraj Vashi

    Hi Viraj,
You need to upload an image "pdf.gif" in \etc\public\mimes\images folder.
Also, you need to define the MIME Type for PDF documents in portal.
Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Utilities -> MIME Types.
Check whether you already have a MIME Type for PDF or not. Else you can create a new Type "pdf" with MIME Type "application/pdf".

  • Thumbnails of PDF-Files are no longer available ...

    Hi,
Unfortunately, the thumbnails of the uploaded PDF files are no longer available ...
    Any hints ???
    Kind Regards
    Holger

Holger, thanks for the screenshot confirming what you are seeing.
Please click on the broken thumbnail and copy the file link from the browser location bar. Will be something like https://creative.adobe.com/file/40869742-fa53-4dcd-b29c-6962ede2b013.
No one will be able to view the links (including me) but the the asset ID ("40869742-fa53-4dcd-b29c-6962ede2b013") will allow for further investigation. You can also email them to me at [email protected]
As a workaround you should be able to download and re-upload the files and have the thumbnails show.

  • Cannot delete .PDF files from a shared folder.

    Hello,
I am having issues with deleting/renaming PDF files!
Permissions is not an issue as even logged in as the Network Administrator of the Domain, I still can't delete the file.
The error message I'm recieving is:  cannot delete xxxx.pdf It is being used by another person or program.  Close any programs that might be using this file and try again.
There are only 1 or 2 users that would have access to the files and neither of them are using them.  I can also reset the security permissions for the file and take ownership, but even after doing these things it doesn't make a difference?
I've tried various unlocking tools (Unlocker) and none of them report that the file is open or that there are any locks on them.  This only happens with PDF files. If I reboot the sever the problem will go away, but this server needs to be 99.999% of the
    time!
    Help please!
