Pdf files opening in acrobat but not ie

hello all, i'm having a problem opening pdf files in internet explorer instead of acrobat 9. the "Display PDF in browser" box is checked under Edit > Preferences... and i've opened regedit and watched as bBrowserIntegration registry key is deleted and re-written while checking and unchecking that box. i've tried a complete uninstall/re-install of acrobat twice, once running ccleaner after uninstalling to clear unused registry keys. this problem is localized to that particular user. logging them off and logging on with a local account, pdf files from the internet open just fine with ie8. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Adobe recommends against have different versions of the same application installed at the same time. They also discourage having Reader and Acorbat installed at the same time. I would install version 6 and repair or reinstall version 9.

PDF files open very slowly or not at all.

I am experiencing an issue on a clients network where most pdf files open extremely slow or not at all. This issue is being experieced by both pc and mac uses, computers on and off the domain. Any one connected to the network. Has anyone seen an issue like this before. We are currently having Cisco troubleshoot the internet router but are not currently seeing any issues there. The isp has indicated that the circuit has tested cleanly. The issue is even seen when trying to download the pdf, it just seems to hang around 80-90 percent of the download.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreceiated.

It MAY be that Adobe software slowness problems are caused by having a network
printer as default... with the cure being to always have a local printer as a
default (you don't have to USE it, just have it set to local as default) and
this may be accomplished by using an Adobe Generic Printer Driver

Captivate 4: linked pdf file opens when published but closes project

I have linked a couple of pdf files (Live Cycle) to an Adobe Cap 4 project. When I published the Captivate file the pdf file opens and works well but once the user closes the pdf file to contine to the next slide the project closes. Does anyone know how I can correct this? (it works fine in preview but not when published) Thanks!

How exactly are you opening the PDF? If you just linked to it without choosing the "New Window" option it will replace the Captivate project in the browser window.
Perhaps you should examine the configuration of whatever is triggering the opening of the PDF. You should also review the information provided at the link below.

How can I use Firefox to view a pdf in a local file? On the web pdf's open in Acrobat but in a local file (file:///C:/T10/drafts/adc3/adc3r04.pdf) Firefox displays raw text instead of launching Acrobat

I am configured to open pdf's in Acrobat instead of Firefox. This works great on the web. I have a local mirror of a website on my local disk as well as a network disk. When I use my html file to attempt to open the pdf on the local disk (file:///C:/T10/drafts/adc3/adc3r04.pdf) it opens as text in Firefox - appears to be ASCII view of the binary contents of the pdf. When I use my html file on my network disk (http://tucgsa.ibm.com/~kdbutt/T10/drafts/adc3/adc3r04.pdf) everything works as it should.

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer and use the Adobe Reader instead.

Pdf files viewable in ibooks but not in adobe reader?

I can open and view pdf files in ibooks but i downloaded adobe reader and they arent even showing up. The file is a text book and is too big to email myself. any suggestions?

.pdf will open in Reader, but not Adobe Acrobat 8.0

I have a large document that was created in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and apparently the file was damaged (it's also 4.5 GB). I can open it in Adobe Reader 9, but when I try to open it in Acrobat, it shuts the program down and there is no history of it being opened. I've tried opening it back up in Acrobat 6.0, but it says the file is damaged. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to remake the document?

I do not know how you created the PDF. You might try going back and printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Open AA6 and then select the file that way. Does this work?

PDFs and Word Files open on iMac but not Macbook Pro

I own an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Recently, I've been having an issue with some PDFs and Word files that have been emailed to me from different contacts. All open—and can be seen using Quick Look—on the iMac. However, on the MacBook Pro it's a different story. When I try Quick Look all I see are the icons. When I try to open the PDFs in Preview (default app for me) I get an error message saying the file could not be opened and might be damaged. When I try to open the Word doc in Word, Pages or Bean I see all of the extraneous header information etc and the text is all mixed up in that formatting junk. I have repaired permissions, cleared out my user cache, restarted—pretty much everything I can think of. But no luck. Thought?

Brilliant suggestion! I checked all the display settings on my iMac 27" and confirmed they were the same settings as my MacBook -- until I checked the Window 7 screen resolution. Because of its size, I had expanded the screen across most of the monitor. When I changed the resolution to one suggested or configured by Windows, Approach worked fine. I've now tested it on quite a few of the settings, and as long as I let Windows determine the best resolution (on my iMac 27" it seems to be 2043 x 1276), Approach works like it should. Thank you!

Recovered files open in Bridge but not in PS4 or Camera Raw

My Canon T1i failed with dozens of images on the SD card. I used DiskInternals Partition Recovery to recover the files from the SD card. Many of the CR2 images show up fine in Bridge CS4, both the Content thumbnail and the Preview screen. (Screen shot 1) However, when I try to open them in either Camera Raw or PS4, most of images either do not open or only some sections of the image appear. For example, if you divided the image into 9 equal rectangular segments - 1, 2 or 3 may be visible, but the other are blank. (Screen shot 2)
Does anyone have an idea of how to recover the files?

I can't say if this will fix it, but you can try putting quotation marks around "_blank"... it is a String argument so it should be quoted just like the URL is.

CR2 files open in CS4 but not in Bridge

I'm running Windows XP, CS4 11.02. Bridge 3.0.0.464, ACR 5.7, which I installed using the Updater. I purged my Bridge cache. Still get the "No Items to display" when I try to access my CR2 files. I can open the files (although I can't see thumbnails) in CS4.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Most of the problems with ACR are one of 2 things. Either
you have the file in the wrong folder, or there is more than one file there.
The file should be in Program files/COMMOM FILES/Adobe/plugins/cs4/file formats if I remember correctly.

I'm having some hiccups getting Adobe to register the software, but since I set it as the default .pdf reader during setup, things try (and fail) to open in the as yet unregistered software. I'd opened file with the 'Open with' feature then clicking Adobe Reader,
but that didn't do it. When I used 'Open with', then 'Choose default
program...', it worked like a charm.
