PDF portfolio search not working in Reader for Linux

I have a PDF portfolio with embedded index created using Acrobat 9.5.5 running on Windows 7. I can search this portfolio without any problem using the windows versions of Acrobat 9.5.5 or Reader 11.0.4, but when I try any of the same searches using Reader 9.5.5 for Unix on Ubuntu 13.10, the searchs never terminate. The search window appears, but the spinning circle at top right of the search window just keeps spinning and no results ever appear. I've left it for half an hour without any results appearing. The same searches on Windows complete in a few seconds.
The portfolio in question is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rzh9t1oo0vx2ib/lilydoc-2.17.29.pdf (it's created from the various PDF manuals that make up the Lilypond documentation).

Hmm. Sounds like something went wrong with the links. Are they spelled out (using http://www....etc) or are they hyperlinks? If they are spelled out, you could have your version of Reader set to recognize links and they may not (Edit>Preferences>General>Basic tools - Create links from URLs).
To create links in ID, highlight the text, go to your hyperlinks pallet and in the drop-down select "New link" and fill in the appropriate information. Then when you export it to PDF from ID, in the "General" settings section under "include" select "Hyperlinks".
There are other options you may want to be aware of but that's better asked about in the ID forum.

  • PDF Portfolio does not work with iOS Reader 11.3.2 on iOS 7.1.2

Well this is upsetting. I created a PDF form with several pages of the same form (it's a travel log).
My hoping to use Adobe Reader to complete the form and save back as a week at a time won't work.
I created the form using Acrobat Pro 9 from CS5.
Does anyone know if a PDF form in a Portfolio should work with Adobe Reader on the iPad2/
Also, what can I use that works with forms as a portfolio?

  • Creating  a PDF Portfolio is not working

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a PDF portfolio of photographic images for a retouching portfolio. I click on file, create pdf protfolio, i add files, but then the screen is just black. I get a message that says 'to view the flash content upload flashplayer'. so i went to that page and discovered that I have the patest version of flashplayer and that is it up and running properly. Can someone help me with this. I have never worked in adobe acrobat before and am clueless. the tutorial on pdf protfolios was truly worthless and didnt even cover all of the steps I described above.

  • Preview PDF while loading not working in Reader 10

    Hi,
a cool feature of Adobe Reader 9 was the "pdf preview while loading".
If I opened a large PDF-Document in the webbrowser the first few pages have been displayed while the rest of the document was loaded in the background.
This was very helpful because I was able to decide weather I would like continue loading or not.
This feature does not work anymore with Adobe Reader 10 and Firefox.
I have to wait until the blue progressbar is completed.
    On Internet explorer it works.
    Any tips ?
    Thank You,
    Andy.

  • Annotations do not work in Reader for iOS (but do for Reader on other platforms)

I sell a book as PDF and it is encrypted against changing the contents, but annotating is allowed (highlighting, balloons). It turns out that  most PDF readers work as expected. The ones that don't (and that I know of so far) include Apple's Preview.app and (to my surprise) Adobe Reader for iOS.
All others tested so far (including Adobe Reader for Windows and OS X) behave as expected.
So, I suspect that (Preview.app on OS X and) Adobe Reader on iOS have a bug. Can I report that Reader for iOS bug somewhere?

Sadly, it's a limitation in Adobe Reader for iOS.

  • Load panel tui file not working on CVI2012 for Linux

We are having problems with panels that look fine on Windows being difficult to read on Linux, presumably because most control and text fonts are VAL_DIALOG_META_FONT on Windows but the CVI for Linux run-time only has NISYSTEM.
As a quick way to test different fonts on Linux I created a tui file from the uir file and then used global search and replace to change VAL_DIALOG_META_FONT to something that would hopefully look decent on Linux.
Problem is that LoadPanel(0,"filename.tui",1) works on WIndows but throws error -46 on Linux.
Whereas LoadPanel,0,"filename.uir,PANEL) works fine on Linux & Windows but the fonts are very hard to read on Linux.
Is there a table somewhere mapping the VAL_FONT attribute magic numbers to corresponding fonts on Windows and Linux?
It'd be nice to have some guidance on the default font mappings. But at the end of the day, I don't really care much about fonts unless the defaults are hard to read.
I guess one other potential complication is the UIR file originally came from CVI 8.5, but CVI 2010 for Windows didn't say anything about needing to "convert" it.  Perhaps one of the attributes in the tui file is not valid on Linux, but is on Windows?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Loading TUI files in Linux it's an issue that we have recently discovered and it did not made it yet to the known issue list. I'm not 100% sure but I believe a workaround to that problem would be to go and manually edit that tui file and remove those attributes that generates errors. You can begin with  ATTR_TITLEBAR_STYLE and then look if one of the following are in the tui file: ATTR_DS_BIND_PLOT_STYLE, ATTR_DS_BIND_POINT_STYLE, ATTR_DS_BIND_LINE_STYLE, ATTR_DS_BIND_PLOT_COLOR and delete them. Then try to load the tui file again.
On the other hand I think there is a workaround for your original problem: the predefined fonts (VAL_DIALOG_METAFONT) looks bad on Linux. I believe there is a way a user can change the underlying font and the size of a predefined font. In windows you can change it in the registry but in Linux you can define an environment variable: XAPPLRESDIR that points to a directory that should contain a file named cvi, a file where you can write font settings. Each line has to be of the following format: <appName>.<key>:<value>. If you want the settings you're writing to be persistent for all applications the put a "*"instead of the application name.
The list of possible key is: appFont (NIAppMetaFont), menuFont (NIMenuMetaFont), dialogFont (NIDialogMetaFont), editorFont (NIEditorMetaFont), messageBoxFont (NIMessageBoxMetaFont).
The value have to be of the following form: <font family>-<font name>-<font size>
Here is the only line I have in the cvi file: *.dialogFont : adobe-helvetica-19

  • Search not working as expected for list

We're running SP 2013 Ent on-prem. I have a user whose added several text columns to a list an when he performs a search for data in those fields, it returns nothing. It's very inconsistent, some rows will return if you search on them, but others will not.
Here's what I've done so far:
Checked the Search App, and it's indexing the list and the items with no issue
Created an index on the columns he wants to search on (really, just one column, which is a Single line of text)
    Re-indexed the list
    Kicked off a full crawl
    Punched monitor
I'm out of ideas. Any help would be awesome. Thank you.

Thanks for the response. Here are the answers to the question you asked.
              1. We are not using the transaction and according to the WL documentation in the first message we do not need to. We really do not want to for other reasons too.
              2. Yes mesages are sent persistent.
              3. Yes MDB is configured to use durable subscription.
              4. EMS is not doing anything different. I can clearly see it receving the ack from wl even if the runtime exception is thrown in MDB.
              5. Thanks for the work around suggestion that would be last resort.
Thing is all this works fine for queue. It is only the topic having issues.

  • Links not working in Reader for some

    Hi,
I'm making PDF documents from InDesign and then opening up the PDF in Acrobat Pro on my Mac and adding in links. Once I save and open the PDFs again, I'm able to click on the links in both Pro and Reader and they work on my computer, but for others on a PC using the Reader 11, the links don't work. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
    Thanks!

  • Sound in PDFs not playing - suse - latest Reader for linux  (7.0.9?)

I have a pdf that has sound files incorporated into it somehow and I can't get them to play. I am using the latest available adobe reader for linux and I have suse linux, I forget what version but not too old. When I click on the link for the sound, absolutely nothing happens. I know it does work because it works at work on Vista. I am not sure whether there are actual sound files in there or if they are links to files on the internet. I suspect maybe they are links because it also will not work in windows XP with Reader 8 on a computer not connected to the internet. However, I have been able to find no information on this, so I don't have a clue.
Is sound in pdfs a Reader 8 only feature? Does it just not work in Linux? Is there any way to be able to listen to those audio clips?

So you mean there is a release coming out that will solve my problem? Does anyone know when?
(The only thing I've found is stuff written in December last year saying they will release Reader 8 for linux/Unix soon. Soon has been and gone since then ;) )

  • Search not working on Task Description

    Hi,
I am facing a strange scenario with search not working on Task Description for a particular task item. This task item has around 18 versions of itself within it.
I tried replicating the same scenario in our Test environment with following changes in the task item description:
    1. Copied the task list over to Test environment.
    2. Deleted all the versions of this task and put a single line description as.
    3. Initiated full crawl and search results with task description were
    coming up fine.
    4. Made few more versions : 5 Versions and again initiated full craw. Search results are fine.
    5. Made few more versions this time and again a FULL crawl, but now NO results with this task description.
So, my question here is that is there any limit by MS for multiline text limit or version limit which prevents the task description from coming up in search results.
This task description as multiple line text with links to other lists/libraries and user names who created the versions in this task item. We are not using FAST search.

I found the answer elsewhere on the forum:
Somehow the main drive was added to the privacy list in Spotlight. Search is working fine now that I've removed it.

  • Pdf object postMessage not working in FF 22

    Hi,
After updating my FF to 22, i seen pdf object postMessage function does not working. We used adbove livecycle intraactive pdf forms to collect the data from the user.
When user click the save button from the pdf, postMessage function called, but after update this not getting execute.
For your reference i include the URL which also had the same problem. I also tried without addons.
    Refer: http://www.windjack.com/WindJack/Browser2PDF/brwsr2acroJS.htm
    HTML to PDF => works
PDF to HTML => not working (in earlier versions it worked)
    Thanks n Regards
    Mathan

This is likely the fault of Livecycle Interactive. Most likely, Adobe has not yet provided an update for supporting Firefox 22. I would recommend informing adobe support about it.

  • Mail search not working, at all

Mail search is not working AT ALL for me.  0 results for things that should have hundreds of results.  Have tried most of the suggestions here already - repaired permissions, deleted envelope index files, rebuilt mailboxes, etc.
Just broken.  Also, these "support communities" seem to be a downgrade from the old discussion boards IMO.  Harder, not easier, to find info.

I am having the same problem, I can search last names and sometimes get a couple of results to show up, though for the most part I get nothing, even when I know the word is in the subject line and email address.

  • Firefox 4 map search not working

When I open the maps search on firefox 4 homepage and enter a location, firefox says loading but goes no further,
I can access the map of a location from the web search box by entering map followed by the location name.
How can I get the map search to work?

Thanks for your reply. I was testing those on my home Wifi (optimum ISP), as that is what I use most. I did test with my phone carrier's 4g also and did get slightly different results, but still does not fix the problem. Here are the differences:
    ======================
    "woot":
    * [Wifi] leads to www.woot.com.
    * [4G] tries to go to http://woot/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.
    "word":
    * [Wifi] leads to a "Domain Not Found" page from my home ISP with search.
    * [4G] tries to go to http://word/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.
    " word ":
    * [Wifi] leads to a "Domain Not Found" page from my home ISP with search.
    * [4G] ignores spaces and tries to go to http://word/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.
    "word anotherword"
    * [Wifi] leads to a Google search results page.
    * [4G] leads to a Google search results page.
    "amazon"

So weird! Can't even find much of a pattern minus that two words seem to do okay.
Furthermore, I just updated Firefox Android to version 24.0 which came out yesterday. Same exact results and the problem still persists.
I am using an HTC Amaze 4G from T-Mobile. Android version 4.0.3. All stock and unrooted.
Thank you again so much for your help!

  • Spotlight search not working on ios7

Spotlight search not working on iPhone 5 updated to ios7. I can access the search bar, but nothing happens when I enter a search term.

I'm having the same issue with an iPad 2 and iPhone 5. As mentioned by Nick if you reboot it seems to resolve the issue. Note that after a reboot it can take several seconds for spotlight search to return the first results. After this first slow response it seems to be quicker.
If it helps I have a few hundred apps and about 24K songs so the search has a lot to go through!
