PDF Specific printing issues relating to ink usage and duplexing

I have a preset printing setting so that I don't waste my color ink cartridges on my HP officejet 6500 when I'm only printing in black and white.
When I print from adobe reader or preview (which I print from PDFs 95% of the time) the printer ignores these settings and continues to use color ink to make "optimum quality."
The settings work fine in word or text documents and the drivers and software versions are all updated. HP tells me it's a program specific problem (i.e., not their problem) but I'm running through ink like crazy!
I also can't automatically duplex print w/ PDFs (that also works in word docs)
I tried converting the PDFs to text but the programs I tried don't save the formatting and these are professional fliers from my company which I can't seem to recreate without wasting massive amounts of time.
Adobe's website was useless and they want to charge $39 for a service call...what do I try next?

Hi Cara Mia, and a warm welcome to the forums!
or preview (which I print from PDFs 95% of the time) the printer ignores these settings and continues to use color ink to make "optimum quality."
Do you mean Preview from Reader's Print Dialog, or the Preview APP?
Just drag the finished PDF to Preview App's icon, that should allow you to use/choose your Presets.

  • Office jet 6000 wireless printer ink usage and no support

I would like to know if anyone else has this problem with their printer.
I print in 98% of my work in black ink.  My settings are on fast draft, black ink only, yet my colored ink is running out, fast.  How could this be?   I have the XL cartridges (700 pages, so the box says) and they look to be the exact same size as the regular (300 pages).   I just replaced the 3 colored ink cartridges a couple of months ago, printed no more than 20 pages with a little color (mainly blue and gray), then all of a sudden, my printer say's I'm out of all the colored ink and it wont print at all.  I can take the cartridges, run some paper under the ink holes and get ink all over it.  And when i call hp, they tell me that it uses the colored ink even though I'm printing in black.  How?  They tell me to buy another cartridge and keep track of how much in color i print.  Hellooooo.. I've told them how much I'm printing in color.  They also tell me that i need to pay for tech help because my printer is no longer in warranty.  (18 months old).  I've called about this twice and they give me the same answer.  Printing in black still uses colored ink.
the last person i talked to, last night, said it may even be a problem with the mechanic part of the printer, which is covered.  Well, if its covered then why cant i get another answer besides "buy more ink".
does anyone else have this issue?  What do you do to solve it?
Consumer Reports listed this printer as one of the best, and the ink cartridges gave you the best bang for you buck.  Yeah, ok...
You would think that if they know they have this issue, they would do more to help their customers out.

    From http://www.hp.com/pageyield/articles/us/en/InkUseage.html
Some color ink may be used when printing black text-or-graphics. There are several circumstances when color ink may be used—primarily to improve print quality, and sometimes to improve printer reliability—even if the document appears to be only black text-and-graphics. Many HP printers utilize chemical interactions to improve the quality and permanence of plain paper black text-and-graphics by adding small amounts of color ink to certain black areas.
While I am an HP employee, I am not a expert on all our products. If I offer advice, I'm not speaking for HP on how to solve an issue, but I'll do my personal best to help you.

  • How do you convert files in MAC to pdf, specifically print shop and word?

New mac user - I compose pta newsletter and with new paperfree environment in school I need to convert to pdf & send to website coordinator. I use print shop for mac (mac kiev, version2) What do I need to do? Thanks!

Command-P (print command) will give you the option of printing, previewing the file in Preview and saving the file as a PDF. Many applications also have an export feature that will export your file to a pdf as well.

  • Live Cycle PDF Generator - Printing issues

    Hi,
I am new to LiveCycle and figuring out why a custom code developed will print to one set of printers and not the other.  LiveCycle is running on BEA WebLogic server on Widows 2003.  There is a customized SendToPrinter process I see in the Adobe WorkBench which reads an XML resource to determine which printer configuration.  The actual code for printing is invoked from a service called lprPrint using the LPD protocol for which I do not have the source code.  The app is able to print to one set of Cannon printers controlled in the UNIX environment, however while attempting to print to the another Xerox printer which is in the Windows world, it fails.  I am able to telnet to the Xerox printer on port 515.  I have used various queue names like lp, LP, PS and so forth but to no success.  Any pointer will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • When saving a document as a PDF for printing, I lose pages, clip art, and my orginal format. Help!

I have created some forms for our congregation to fill in with answers on adobe forms central. When I go to turn it into a PDF for printing for a hard copy, (not all our members have internet) when i save it to a PDF, it doesn't save all the pages and formats it differently then show on the screen i programmed it onto. How do I fix this issue?

    Hi;
In the "Feature Tutorials/Help" linked from the top of the main page of the Forums: Feature Tutorials / Help
There is a Tutorial on "Creating and distributing fillable PDF Forms": Tutorial: Creating and distributing fillable PDF forms
The main thing to look at is the "View" setting and for PDF set it to "Page View", the page breaks you define in Page View will be used in the PDF, there are also "implicit" page breaks added automatically based on the page size.
For the issue with clip art see this FAQ: Image does not show up in PDF
    Thanks,

We use HP OfficeJet 100 mobile printers and have a printing issue. When we print the printer acts as if it is going to print and then prints one blank page.Printer will not print even though it is showing as default printer.Printer will just stop printing in the middle of a document, even in the middle of printing out a page. We are printing via the USB cableWe are using Windows 8.1We are connecting to laptopsWe have been using the HP mobile range of printers since 2004 and have only experienced these issues since we moved the laptops onto Windows 8/8.1 We have:Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers – this fixed this issue for a short while and then it reappeared againCalled HP support and they directed us to the driver support page which had the latest print drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers with them on the phone. This initially fixed the problem and then it returned a few days laterAfter trawling the support forums found directions to change the print processor to “WinPrint” – No effect as the processor was already on this settingDownloaded the HP diagnostic tool – HP Print and Scan Doctor – didn’t fix anything Any further help would be much appreciated.

Hello there Lawrence, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about the troubles you are running into when you attempt to install your OJ 6100 printer on your Windows 8.1 laptop. I read all of your attempts and seen you have tried several methods to try and get the installation to complete successfully.
I would like to make some suggestions that may help. Let me know how it goes!
    1. Check that Internet Explorer pop-up blockers are turned off before downloading the installer
Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker: How do I turn off Pop-up Blocker?
    Try to install
    2. If you're running McAfee Live Safe or any other firewall, please temporarily disable the "real time scanning".
    How to disable realtime scans
    Try the install
    3. Go to the start screen (you may also press the windows key + R to open the run box) and type %WINDIR% this should show the windows folder.
Click on the folder and scroll until you see files. Look for a filed named "HPWINS*.DAT" (the * is for a number that varies) remove this file and try the installation.
    Try the install
    Enjoy your Monday!

  • Check printing issue when vendor in Arabic and other in english are used

We are facing a scenario in which when we try to print two checks (one in arabic and the other in english)  , the amount in words for english is creating alignment issue . Like 54647.08 in words would be fifty four thousand six hundred fourty seven  and  eight / hundred of the currency . But it is getting displayed as  'and  eight / hundred of the currency fifty four thousand six hundred fourty seven .This issue is coming only when the english check comes after arabic one and not vice-versa and also when  the amount in words is bigger (not in case of amounts like 70000 )

    Hi
Try to use CALL FUNCTION 'SPELL_AMOUNT'  Currecny Key = "USD"  irrespective of the  currency  and then based on the country key or langauge  Concatenate the Currency to the SPELL AMOUNT..

  • HP Officejet 7680 print issue alignment/ black ink problem

My printer is playing up again - this time it keeps trying to align, and fails (according to the readout on the screen) .
The black ink is also not working at all (trying new cartridge).  I suspect the two issues are connected? When I tried to print the Print Quality test page (as described here: Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues ) nothing involving the blank ink is printed at all, though the colours are all fine.)
Is it time for a new print head? Or what? I have tried my reset tricks described here on the forums from before  as well as the hard resets of #6 and #9 that I found on the forums elsewhere, to no avail this time. I am just leery of spending all that money which would need to be borrowed, if its not likely to be a dying print head..

Hi there HHjr, Welcome to the forums!
I am so sorry to hear about the problem you are running into with your 6500 Wireless not printing in black ink. Although it seems like you have tried all of the troubleshooting, please review the guide below just to make sure you've attempted all of the steps.

  • Printing issue with HP LaserJet 4300 and iMac 10.9

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a HP LaserJet 4300 printer with my iMac 10.9.
Printer installs fine, at least all appears to be fine but when trying to print a page, couple of pages comes out all with strange characters across the whole page.
Tried uninstalling and installing printer again but no succes.
Printer is on Windows 2003 server. Cuople of windows machines connected to the printer, they print fine.
    Any suggestions?

The page looks perfect in preview and as a PDF. I can't print from the PDF, however, because it shrinks the text and expands the margins ...
Something's fishy. Save as PDF should result a file that looks exactly, precisely, like what you'd get if you printed directly to your printer.
I suspect your Word document has been corrupted by a few bytes of random data that is causing your printer to go nuts. Try cutting that portion out of the document, and pasting it in a new blank document so you can incrementally isolate the damage.
This isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, because when the PostScript printer driver encounters the errant code in the Word document, it's essentially telling the printer "now, go to the top of this page, print a nasty black smudge, and then crash." You might have to cut a whole page before and after the suspected corruption. If you're lucky you might be able to cut the portion then paste it right back as "unformatted text". Try that.

  • HP deskjet printing issue - alternate line cut off and blocks

Hi guys recently bought a deskjet 3050 and it started printing fine, when i had to print out a large document (roughly about 30 pages) it started to cut out sections of text and replacing them with black blocks.
now when printing it prints the first line fine then the second line is half missing and some words are replaced with black blocks. then the next line is fine, the next is cut off and blocks again and so it continues.
it only does this with black ink and not colours.
    anyone know a solution?

It sounds like the black cartridge has failed electrically.  Try printing a diagnostic page as shown in Solution 6 of the page here.  Does this print properly?  I suspect the black nozzle pattern in the upper right will be corrupted.  You might try removing the cartrdige and cleaning the electrical contacts but I suspect the cartridge will need to be replaced.  You can check the cartrdige warranty as shown here assuming it is an original HP cartridge.

  • Serious issue related to activation/deactivation and reinstall

Got a serious issue going one. I had deactivated my Premiere Pro CS6 install on my main system while I was traveling and activated the install on my laptop. When I returned, I deactivated the laptop and re-activated the main system again. Any AVCHD clips that were already there were recognized, but if I tried importing any new ones, I'd get the "Unsupported compression type" error. Realizing that this is usually an activation issue, I tried to deactivate so that I could reactivate, but the Deactivate selection was grayed out. So, I uninstalled and ran the clean up tool. Then re-installed from the Cloud and activated. I could then import new AVCHD media without the "Unsupported compression type" error, however, now the project I was working on opens, but nothing will play - neither in the Timeline or the Source Monitor. Hitting "Play" does nothing. I can move the CTI along the Timeline but the initial frame that is in the Program Monitor stays the same. Furthermore, when I try to Save, the program hangs, forcing me to end Premiere from the Task Manager.
Now, after several time opening the project, all AVCHD(.MTS) media is offline, and cannot be imported due to the  "Unsupported compression type" error. I have all of the media files backed up to an external drive, so I copied some of the backed up verisons of the .MTS files over to my onboard media RAID, and still get the error. HOWEVER...when I link the offline clips to the backed up versions of the files on the external drive, they import correctly.  Keep in mind, this isn't happening with all projects, only one.
Here's what I've tried as possible remedies...
    - Created an empty project and imported the working project into it - same thing happens in the new project
    - Created an empty project and imported individual sequences from the bad one. This works, however, one of the sequences in the bad version doesn't appear in the list of sequences when importing, providing a clue as to where the problem lies.
    - Trashed preferences
    - Cleaned Media Cache Database
    - Deleted all Previews
I'm at an impasse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK...looks like the issue is settled. I tried installing PPro from the Cloud to another machine. After install I noticed that Application Manager was showing that an update was available for PPro. Hadn't gotten any other noices about that down in the status bar like I usually do, just the entry inside App Manager. So I updated the new machine. Then opened the errant project, and it seemed to be working properly, so I saved it back out with a different filename and took it back over to the main editing machine. Same issue was still there. So, I checked Application Manager on the main system, and voila, there was the update notice. So, I installed the update, and the project works like a charm now.

  • Issue related to Company name and Ip address

    Dear Experts,
When a user click the SAP icon the company name is not appearing, shown below
When user enters the correct userid and password automatically the  system will pop the IP Address screen
When the user enter the correct Ip address user gets an error saying the user code is and password is invalid
However the company name appears then user has to login again then SAP Opens.
Problem is why is not storing the company name once it is opened.and why the error comes everytime the user logins freshly.
I have tried in Admin login it has come. But other users login its same error, even though the rights have been given to SAP folder in C-drive
SAP Version is 8.82 PL 7
    Thanks&Regards

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply, i tried the above method ,but when the user clicks the SAP Icon and
Run as Administrator then only the Company name will be stored and it doesn't ask the IP Address.
But when the icon is clicked directly the company name is not stored and the IP address pop up.
The user can't dially use as Run as Admin, as its an admin login.
But its happening only in some systems, other system are working even without admin privileges.
I also have provided full access to the SAP Folder in C-drive where SAP B1 is installed, even then the problem persists.
Kindly let me know if there is any other folder apart from SAP folder in C-drive of the local system. where full access is to be provided.

  • HP Photosmart 309g-m ink usage, etc.

I purchased this all-in-one from NewEgg.com in January 2010 for $119 on sale. I was thrilled because I was looking forward to owning an HP printer. I used to have an old dot-matrix and loved it. I was replacing a Lexmark X5150 which had served well for five years, but was giving me problems feeding paper, especially envelopes. Also, I thought the ink for the Lexmark was expensive. I was replacing cartridges on the Lexmark about every 3 mos. at a cost of $78.
Since buying the HP Photosmart 309g-m all-in-one in January 2010, basically less than 3 mos. ago, I have spent $178.50 on ink as of April 22, 2010.  Yes ... One hundred, seventy-eight dollars. I have replaced all color cartridges three times since January and they now need replacing a fourth time. I have also replaced the black cartridge three times and the photo black once, although I have printed a maximum of four 4 x 6 photos -- only those printed as a test when I first installed the printer.
I do not print extensively every day. The printer is for home use, almost exclusively printing occasional greeting cards, five 8.5 x 11.0 pages per week of 5.5 x 3.5 postcards using Microsoft Publisher 2002 (4 per 8.5 x 11.0 page, not using all the page space), greeting card envelopes, or other relatively small projects such as two 8.5 x 11.0 pages per week of 3.5 x 2.0 business-size cards with color images (10 cards per page) for a children's Sunday School class.
I have kept a record on my computer. Since last replacing all color cartridges, black cartridge, and photo black cartridge between 3/31/10 and 4/10/10 -- a MAXIMUM of 22 days, I have printed 112 documents, some of which were entirely black text, and some of which were 4.375 x 5.75 envelopes (i.e., small). That averages to approximately 5 documents per day, although, as said, I do not print every day. NO PHOTOS, and several documents in black text only or small envelopes.
The point of this post is not to ask a question -- unless it is how does HP get away with making and selling such an blatantly avaricious product. The point is to warn others and to vent my EXTREME anger and frustration. This all-in-one is a total rip off.
I have read other posts on this forum from those who have similar ink usage issues, and not just with the 309g. If it were possible, I would post every where on the web to warn people about these HP products. I personally think it is abominable that they are allowed to produce this kind of product when they KNOW they will rake in a fortune on printer ink.
Do not be misled by the sales pitch that individual color cartridges are a bonus. All color cartridges run low within days of each other and nothing color can be printed if one of them is too low. In addition, it is not possible to determine which low cartridge is responsible for the inaccurate colors on the printed page. Recently the color on a project printed streaked and it required replacing the black cartridge to cause the color to print correctly. I have had similar experience with needing to replace a magenta cartridge in order to correctly print a project where most color in the image was green, yellow, or blue. And, it is not necessary to inform me that the cartridge colors must mix to produce the exact color. That is not the point. The point is it is misleading to advertise that it is a helpful feature to be able to replace only the colors needed when that fact is useless practically speaking.
There have also been other issues with the 309g-m. The learning curve was extreme, and I am not a novice. The software is limited. It is necessary to create a new paper size under custom sizes for every project that involves something other than the preset sizes HP has decided "most people" want, and that includes something as simple as a half-sheet of 8.5 x 11.0 paper. It is not possible to print two-sided projects correctly if the project is a 4.25 x 5.5 booklet (half an 8.5 x 11.0 page greeting card format to avoid "quarter folding") produced in Microsoft Publisher 2002, because HP's software arbitrarily decides the user needs certain margins to allow for binding. Thus it is not possible to customize the software to individual creativity. As a matter of fact, if one changes paper size to 8.5 x 5.5 and the format to booklet in Publisher, HP's printer software will not even allow two sided printing.
The scanner bed is slightly raised so that scanning a page from a large book, or a portion of a large sheet does not produce a clear image because the original cannot be placed flat on the scanner bed.  Scanner resolutions had to be modified to prevent grainy or speckled image results. The scan to computer option on the LED screen does not work unless one has the HP Solution Center enabled on startup (or takes the time to start it before attempting a scan).
I have read HP's article about ink usage and find that they have designed this equipment to USE INK.  Between every document printed, if you choose to print only one copy, the printer "adjusts" itself, using ink. Every time it is turned on, it "adjusts" itself, using ink. Every time it has set idle, even though on, for a period of 5 min. or so, it "adjusts" itself, using ink. And it was designed this way ... not, as HP asserts, the provide superior printing, but, rather, to provide superior bottom lines for HP from ink sales.
It is a travesty that HP is allowed to do this.
This may never be posted, but I hope it is, and I hope people read it, and I hope others do not get stuck with $119 all-in-ones that cost $178 in ink within the first three months to print color documents, no matter how small or how infrequently. I can't imagine what I would do if I were trying to use this for a business! As soon as I am able to afford it, I will ditch this piece of equipment and buy something else. And HP can be assured I will not stop talking about it for a LONG time.

I'm seeing a lot of comments posted on the 309g's ink use, but your experience seems most like my own.  I ran into another 309g owner at an Office Depot and that individual reported the same sort of results.  My question is this:  at what elevation is the town in which you live?  I (and the person I met) live at about 7500 feet and the 564 cartridges act as though the ink is is actually evaporating.
    Thanks

  • C5380 - I want to print using ONLY black ink cartridge. Is this possible?

    Hi Folks,
I now understand that this model, HP C5380 and I'm guessing many others too, are programed to use an amount of colour ink even when selected to print in Black.
My question is:  Can I somehow program the printer to 'only print using the black ink cartridge' and not use the colour cartridges at all?
I have heard that this is possible with some models but need the specifics.
I am even willing to permanently disable the colour function if needed. The replacement ink catridges are so very expensive, if I'm unable to do this then I'll be looking for another printer and it won't be HP.  Thi is unfortunate because I think they make a good quality product - however they need to be on notice that their customers 'good will' and return business will not be forthcoming when they (and other compaines) continue to use money making strategies like this.
