PDF to Image for Viewing in ePub

So I'm on round two of creating an ePub for iBook.  The first round was text only...easy.
Now they want corresponding PDFs to be inserted into the ePub.  My thinking is the PDF would act like an image.   I need the PDF to be intact (tables, images, etc.) I don't want it converted to text.  I have converted the PDFs to .jpg and .png images with the thought of double tapping the image and then being able to pinch to zoom.  My images (originally PDFs) are blurry.  I'm using a MacBook Pro, Pages, Share | Export | ePub.
Suggestions for having clear images (originaly PDFs) are appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi,
Poster image if chosen in InDesign for audio does not show up in EPUB. This is a bug in HTML/EPUB export and we are aware of this.

  • What resolution should I save images for fixed-layout epub?

I have produced an illustrated history book that was created with 300dpi images for print publication.  My next step is to create a fixed-layout epub. Is there a particular resolution that I should set for the images?  Is there a single resolution that I can use to target all tablets and e-readers that accept fixed-layout epubs?
My strategy was going to be to generate a PDF of the book (with no text) and import the PDF pages as the background images for the fixed-layout epub. I am guessing that I should use 150 dpi when saving the PDF.
I'm just a little worried that if I create the fixed-layout epub with 150 dpi images, it may not show up correctly on tablets that don't have high resolution screens?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Use the "Save for Web" option.  Put in the resolution you want, and then dial down the quality, it will show you what it looks like.  Go as low as you're willing given the quality it shows.

  • How to pixelate an image for viewing from afar?

    Hi
I need to pixelate an image for an outdoor poster site, so that when viewed up close it is very distorted and all the viewer can really make out are large squares; as the viewer moves away the image becomes clearer, so that from a distance the actual subject matter becomes clear. Something like the Marilyn Monroe artwork attached...
I would appreciate any step by step advice on how I might do this?
    Thanks in advance guys.

    Hi,
As mentioned above you can use the mosaic option.
Here is a tutorial that can expand this subject that I found online.

It is very simple with Photoshop and will help you lots!

  • Rotate .pdf file image for Plotter printing

My .pdf file image size is 46.76" wide and 24.24" high.  I'm trying to rotate and print the image on an HP plotter such that the 24.24" height is printed across the available 34" width of the plotter roll and the 46.76" image width is printed along whatever length is required as the plotter paper comes off the roll.
I've tried every combination of auto-rotate, custom paper sizes, etc. and the image always prints vertically (as displayed on the computer screen) - reducing/compressing the overall size of the printed result.
The plotter is an HP DesignJet 1055CM - I'm using Acrobat Standard 10.1.5 on Win-XP/sp3

Use what ever format you like, I perfer .tiff with LSW compression or .eps. If you don't know what you are doing just include the original image when you send you project to the printer and link the image in InDesign don't embedded it.  When you furnish the original image the prepress department can set it up correctly.
I perfer 300 dpi with image is at 100% of the final size, if the image is printing 150 line screen when printed. 200 dpi is ok for 133 line screen.  I would even perfer a 100 dpi image over a .jpg image that has be over compressed.

  • Creating Disk Images for viewing on a PC

I created a data dvd of information for work on my iMac by dragging the folders that I needed onto the DVD.  I then burned it in my super drive.  I put the completed DVD into a pc and navigated through the files.
I created an image file (dmg and cdr) of the DVD on my iMac for future use in case someone else wanted a copy of the information.
When I burn the dmg or cdr image to a DVD, I can navigate through it with my iMac without any problems but when I put DVD into a PC, the PC says that it is a blank disk.
I guess my question is, how do I create an image so that I can burn it and use it on either a mac or a pc?

I created the image from a disk.  I put the DVD I wanted to image in the super drive, opened Disk Utility, selected the DVD from the left side of the Disk Utility window.  I then went to the menu:  File - New - Disk Image From <Name of the DVD>.  I tried to use different image formats (Read/Write, DVD/CD Master).
When I went to copy the dmg file, I selected it and then Burned it.  It is readable in my iMac but not on a PC.

  • Alternate thumbnail images for PDF

Is there a way to export an InDesign file as a PDF and have an alternate PDF thumbnail image (one that's not the first page of the document or the standard Adobe logo)? For example, I want to use a company logo as the PDF thumbnail image for all collateral exported out of InDesign, but it wouldn't necessarily be part of the document. Thanks!

  • Viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac

I have a pdf that I generated on a PC (Windows 7, using Acrobat 9). The front cover includes an image that was previously pdf'd then inserted as a cover graphic. When viewed using Acrobat Reader, everything looks fine both on a PC and a Mac. However, when viewed on a Mac using Preview for Mac, there are lines through the cover graphic.
Has anyone else come across problems viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac?

I always find that Preview can garble certain graphic elements or even slightly alter the over-all color of the PDF. However, I also find it is a lot quicker to deal with PDFs, especially when it comes to printing. Sometimes I get a PDF that I send to print on our Canon copier and I end up canceling the print job after 10-15 minutes because it's still processing. I open that same PDF in Preview and it prints in less than a minute. The same can be said of InDesign so on certain jobs I end up exporting as a PDF and printing from Preview. This might say a lot about Adobe's Printing Engine... (sorry, off-topic)

  • Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing and garbled text on a downloaded image

    Dear Madam or Sir,
When I click on a file titled "Subject Access Request Letter re Account Number 12527629 Sort Code 60-10-34 24022015.pdf", which is stored in my Account on Acrobat.com I get the response "Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing". This file was created from an OpenOffice .odt document of the same title. Please advise.
I downloaded an image, which purports to be a .pdf, from the Royal Mail Track & Trace web facility using my Samsung S5. The text that I expect to see might as well be hieroglyphics for all its similarity to text. Please advise.
    Regards,
    Ron Platt
PS I have tried to attach both files (.pdf) but am advised "That image type is forbidden". Please advise.

    Hi Laura,
I have found the solution to be:
       1. Not to upload to "Document Cloud" from the .pdf stored on my PC and
       open on screen.
       2. To login to Acrobat.com from the .pdf stored on my PC and open on
screen, select "Document Cloud" and the sub-folder required and then upload
       the file
I have a feeling that there is a glitch somewhere, because after I have
opened a number of .pdf files stored on my PC, and irrespective of whether
I have closed them prior to opening the next .pdf file or left them open,
Acrobat Reader will display (Not responding) in the window title bar. The
"number of files" equates to less than 10. I, then, click on the X at the
right of the window title bar and I am given the option of "Close the
program" or "Wait until the program responds" (or words to that effect). If
i choose the latter, nothing happens and I am back at the unhappy status
quo. If I choose the former, I am told that Windows is searching for a
solution, which it never finds. I, then, have to shut down the PC and then
start it up, again. Clicking "Restart" does not solve the problem.
I have described the above before and received the usual "it cannot be
Acrobat, it is perfect" response. I could, I suppose, screenshot/snip every
sequential screen but why should I have to when I have described the
sequence as fully as I can. So I have found a "workaround" that does not
solve the "Not responding" problem but does solve the problem of not being
able to upload from the open .pdf file to the sub-folder in "Document
Cloud". I am, on occasion, working through the myriad of .pdf files that
are in the root folder of "Document Cloud" and putting them in the correct
    sub-folder(s).
I have today read that Google is starting a cellphone service in the USA in
which a monthly "access" rental (US$20) is paid plus a GB capacity usage is
elected for at a rate specified, e.g. US$10.00/GB. If the subscriber  does
not use the elected GB capacity Google refunds the US$value of the unused
    elected GB capacity.
Suggestion: Adobe applies that kind of policy to its online software
package usage rates, e.g. I elect to subscribe to a particular level of
online software package usage monthly, but, if I do not use all of the
programs included in that online software usage package, I am credited back
for not having used the softwares, that I did not use, that were inclusive
in that online software package offer.

  • EPUB, .PDF, or .Folio for iPad Book?

I am attempting to convert a bilingual childrens book into an iPad Viewable app but I find much of this confusing.
There is English and Hmong text on each page... Is there a way I could create the digital book so the user could select which language would be read to them as they turn the pages? Or would I only be able to have it read in one or the other? I could have buttons on each page that play each language though right? With what types of publications would I be able to accomplish which task? Any other options?
Also, must I create a .folio in order to have the document viewable horizontally and vertically as the user turns the ipad, (as In I create two versions of each page) Or can I do that with other exported file types?
Finally, If you have a link to the most helpful resource on any of this I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank You for your time,
    Ryan

You should ask questions relative to creating folio files to the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/dps
There are severe limitations to using PDF files on iPads because the PDF readers are very immature. Most of the applications don't support interactivity. Here are two postings I did on PDF readers:
For Interactive PDF, Not All Readers Are Equal
A Much Improved Adobe Reader for Tablets Appears
EPUB files currently only support Latin languages. When I did an EPUB file that used Sanskrit, I had to rasterize the language (it was only short sections). InDesign CS5.5 or CS6 would let you choose the image resolution up to 300 ppi. Of course, you could then not interact with the text because it would be a picture.

  • Inserting Multipage PDF for view only-

    Help!
I want to insert a three page PDF for view only.  I do not want this to open in a new window, I do not want this to download, I just want visitors to view the entire three pages vertically, or scrollable.
When I insert the PDF I only get the first page.  I haven't had any luck with the google docs iframe HTML stuff (but I am admittedly very bad at that and could be missing something).
I am not experienced, so please be clear and patient.
    Thanks!

Another simple way would be to split the 3 page pdf into 3 one page pdf files.  Then drag each pdf file onto the iWeb page, resize and postition as required.  They get converted into image files.  Not elegant but will do what you want.  You can even add a frame of some kind around them if desired like this one page PDF example: Add PDF

  • Why do images within a PDF look jagged when viewed in Acrobat Pro 10.1.6?

Using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS version 10.7.5 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics card. High-resolution source images look fine in other software, and embedded images in a PDF look fine when viewed on Google Drive, but curves and diagonal lines look jagged when viewed in Acrobat Pro 10.1.6. Checking smoothing options in Preferences only adjusts the position of the jagged edges; it neither enhances nor ameliorates them.
I created a sample PDF to illustrate the problem I'm having. Created in illustrator, exported to PNG and converted to PDF. Here is a screenshot of the source PNG side-by-side with the PDF I created from it:
Please note that when I preview the PDF in Finder, and when I view the PDF in Chrome using Google Drive, the image looks fine. Here's a link to the sample PDF:
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/77f5m6
    Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my original post, I've already tried toggling smoothing options. They don't make the jagged edges go away—they just change them slightly. In some cases, as with the sample file provided, it does help smooth the art out, but it never looks as good as it did going in, in a recent project, toggling smoothing options didn't affect the appearance of the image at all. Zoom does not appear to relieve the artifacting.
A little clarification: this PDF was created from a flat PNG, but I have had this issue with PNGs and TIFFs as well, generated by both Photoshop and Illustrator. To reiterate, the PDFs display fine in other software—Finder preview looks great, and the same file viewed in my browser via Google Drive looks as intended as well. A colleague was able to replicate this issue in Acrobat on his Windows machine. This appears to be a rendering issue specific to Acrobat with regards to the files I use it to create.

  • Using the value "Image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of preconfigured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .?

On a form, using the value "image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of pre-configured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .ico, .svg, .svgz, .tif, .tiff, .ai, .drw, .pct, .psp, .xcf, .psd, .raw)?
Say I wanted to add .gif, .jfif or .ico. I find this array limited, how can I add types to image?
    <input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*" id="file" />
mimeTypes.rdf does not seem to allow this.

''mimeTypes.rdf'' has nothing to do with web development. It's a file that stores your file handling preferences (e.g. if you want ZIP files automatically saved or opened).
You can't change the file types of the pre-defined content specifiers (audio/*, video/*, image/*), but you can specify additional MIME types. To add PDF to your above example,
    <pre><nowiki><input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*,application/pdf" id="file" /></nowiki></pre>

  • Adjusting preferences in Preview for viewing pdfs

I would like to have the option to view the 1st page of my pdf next to the second page - not on its own (eg currently, for a 5 page document, mine only shows up as page 1, then p2+3, then P4+5. I would like it to show up at p1+2, then P3+4 then P5, etc. I know how to click between 1 page, and 2 pages and 2 pages continuous, but the 1st page is always on its own for all options.....I understand that in Adobe, you can set preferences for page set ups for viewing your pdf, which includes showig the 1st page with the next one:

However, the instruction for Apple is not working for me. My computer uses Preview and I do not see these options set out. I found another forum where this problem was discussed, but it was archived before being resolved and I am unable to find the new trail....
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi,
In Preview's View Menu there is PDF display.
The Two Pages option places two pages side by side.
However I have found it is not consistent with different PDFs.
(I also set the Preferences to 50% for PDF display)
    Example
It seems to works once you are past the first page (Although I do have a 2 page document where it does not work).
