PE7 crash

When I designate the location (External drive) to store new project PE 7 crashes.  Message:   "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires......"
VISTA 64
500GB free memory
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Steve (you're up early!).
I'll check that and get PSE to down size my photos.
It would seem unlikely though. I've tried this scenario several times. If I select the preset groups first then I can add effects without scrolling and hence have no issue.

  • PE7 Crashes Outputting Flash 8

I have 1080i masters captured with PE7. When I share using Flash 8 and select Flash 8 700 kb, select resize 720 x 400, bit rate=CBR, Encoding Passes=1, I can get a file to successsfully be created.
If I select either VBR or 2 pass encoding, PE7 crashes after a few minutes with an unhandled exception. I would like to look into these higher quality options. Since they are offered I suppose they are suitable for Flash 8, but selecting them seems to crash the program.

I've done an experiment. I did a one minute clip with a title and encoded vbr passes=2 just fine.
Then I did a process of one of my 1 hr projects with the same settings, Flash 8, 700KB, vbr, passes=2 and it ran for 7 hours. Then it crashed with an unhandled exception.
The message was R6025 - pure virtual function call.
I have Visual Studio installed so I launched a debugger and discovered the program counter was as 7813 BD93 and the instruction was
    DS:(781c 4920h),0
Perhaps someone with access to the source tree can tell us what the issue might be.
Anyway, I got far enough to make a discovery. The output is absolutely beautiful, but too good for the likes of me. I upload to Viddler which imposes a limit of 500MB on a file. When the crash happened with 6 minutes time remaining the file size was 712 MB. Perhaps when Viddler allows playlists I will revisit the issue.
For now, the one pass cbr must do. I'm guessing that that was the default for PE4 since the quality seems the same. I am blown away with the quality for vbr two passes but it is too big :-(
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • PE7 crashes with ad2mpgvdec.dll error

The previous thread on this topic doesn't seem to match my problem. I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas or if its time to contact support.
PE7 (downloaded) on Vista32 (UAC disabled)
    Program installed error-free, starts ok.
I start a new project, import .VOB files from any dvd (homemade) - I have tried multiple dvd's so I don't think its the disks. Though they were all created by the same recorder.
The .VOB files can be double-clicked on in the organizer window and will play, however when I drag one down to the timeline PE7 crashes with the error:
Faulting application Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, version 7.0.0.0, time stamp 0x48e15f40, faulting module ad2mpgvdec.dll, version 7.5.0.34854, time stamp 0x48c8ca77, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0008e337, process id 0xe14, application start time 0x01ca01b291a1ee81.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I checked the file, it is only in the "c:\program files\adobe\adobe premiere elements 7.0"  folder and is version 7.7.0.34854 (9/30/2008)
Based on the other thread, I'm guessing it is some kind of codec configuration problem but i don't know how to resolve it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Mark

VOB's are basically Mpeg and this compressed format has a tendency to not play nice with PE.
This is more often the case with VOB's after the first, unless there are Subtitles. The first VOB can contain a bit more, and this is often where the problems come in. The most often encountered "Object" contained is the Menuing for the DVD. The reason that all Menu Assets cannot exceed the 1GB limit for the entire DVD-Video is because the Menus cannot span more than one VOB and VOB's are limited to ~ 1GB. If the Menus are created by an authoring program that produces DVD-Videos that are 100% DVD-spec. compliant, then programs like PE and PrPro CS4.1 can usually strip out the Menus and work with the remaining MPEG-2 file in that VOB. Now, remember that the Menuing structure can occupy the entire first VOB, so there might not be any MPEG-2 in there, from the movie. Because a VOB is a Video Object file, it can contain a lot more than just an MPEG-2, and often does.
I strongly agree that MPEG-2 is tough to edit. First, all frames are not included in them. The NLE must create all the frames, so one can edit. The editor can do this conversion outside of the NLE, as you instruct. I find this to be the best way, so that my NLE is only working with DV-AVI Type II files, for SD material.
One common problem, when working with MPEG-2 files is that they often exhibit OOS (Out Of Sync) issues.A good conversion program will likely, though not always, solve those issues.
If one is working on outputting a DVD from any kind of recorder, the first thing that I would suggest is to make sure that there are no Menus, if at all possible. Most recorders will still write a null Menu to the disc, and this will likely mean that the first VOB will not work properly in the NLE. Try to get a disc without any form of Menu, and you might get lucky. This will depend on the exact way that these devices create that first VOB.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • PE7 crashes on DVD Burn

    Hi Guys
I bought PE7 recently and I'm trying to create a DVD from my digital camcorder (SANYO C5) files (mp4). PE7 crashes every time when I select burn to DVD. Also whenever I load my project it says I am low on resources and should proceed with caution. I have continued successfully to add/delete clips and change the menu, etc. - no problem. I can't identify what resources are low, but it doesn't seem to affect me until I create the DVD.
I found Robert Buhre's post on 12/22/08 - he reported similar problems.
    My system is:
    PE7.0
    OS: WinXP+SP3
    RAM: 2gb
    Disk space: 60gb
    Video Card: S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR
    System: P4 2.4mhz
My project comprises 31 mp4 files, 1h24m44s run time, cross fade transitions, DVD main menu + 7 scene menus, fade in to start, fade out to end. I am burning to a folder.
It takes about 6 hours to burn and has always crashed near the end, no error message. I tried several suggestions from the forum, such as upgrading video driver, pre rendering, minimal startup, stop antivirus, check for gaps, menu marker discrepancies, etc.
I created a smaller test project by cutting down the main project to about 6 mins - which does work. I assume this means the source files can be processed and the menu system, fonts etc. are OK.
This last time before PE7 crashed using the original project, PE7 had created movie.m2v and movie.ac3 files in the Adobe/Premiere Elements/7.0/Encoded Files folder. So I copied my project, deleted the original source files and added those two files and burnt again. This took about 3.5 hours (making 9hours total) and did finish successfully. So I now have a working DVD ready to burn to disc, but this surely can't be a satisfactory work routine.
I'm not sure if this is the same as creating a dv avi file and reimporting that. I could try that next.
    My questions/comments are:
    1. Why does the program crash? It should not under any circumstances, it should trap the error and give me some meaningful explanation.
    2. What can I do to diagnose the problem? There should be a log or debug mode or something to determine what went wrong.
    3. Can I assume the problem is not my source files, because the test project worked in one case and PE7 created the two movie files from all the clips in the other case?
I have used other video editing/dvd software and never had to contend with these issues. I would agree with Robert: PE7 is buggy and not fully quality control tested.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Mike.

    A.T.Romano
Thanks for reading my post. Can you please clarify your comments?
    1. Are you suggesting the message on low resources points to the cause of the crash? If so, I would say the message preceeded the crash by about 6 hours! I was able to continue editing, adding clips etc. without problem, ie it did not continue to report resource issues. It hardly gives an adequate answer and I still say a product from a reputable company like Adobe should not just terminate without explanation. Incidentally today I opened the same project without this error appearing. Very odd.
    2. You use the word "only" when referring to ram and disk. 2gb is my installed ram, recommended min is 512mb. From task manager, after loading the program I have 1301328kb available, which drops to 1039240kb after opening the project. 2gb is also the max I can put in my system. Min required hard disk is 4.5gb. Other posts suggest 20-50gb free space, isn't 60gb enough? This isn't an HD project.
    3. Yes shortening the project avoids a crash during burn. I'm not sure what point you would like make? I could try adding clips and burning until I find the point where PE7 breaks. However, as each attempt takes several hours, it could take a week or so to find the answer. I had hoped this forum might provide a quicker answer.
    4. I selected burn to folder DVD 4.7 GB/120 min. I accepted the default "fit to disk". My project at 1 1/2 hrs is within the 2 hour single side limit.
"Based on that information, I sounds to me like your first order of business should be to check low resources, namely not enough available RAM and not enough free hard drive space. "
    - OK so how much ram and how much disk? See my response to 2. above. Given my system, what project size can it handle?
"Have you optimized your computer system lately?" - can you be explicit? Is there a post with details? Won't this just improve performance?
    Thanks, Mike.
PS I think my frustration and from reading this forum, others too, is that there is no easy way to find out what part of the program failed and why. Therefore, my attempts to find a solution are just trial and error and it takes so long to see whether a solution is successful or not.

  • PE7 crashes with 'effects' & 'transitions'??

    Hi All,
New user of PE7 and of this forum.
I installed PE7 this weekend and have been using it for about 5hrs in total. I'm a novice video editor and have chosen PE7 to get me started with editing my raw AVCHD files from my Canon HG10.
My problem is that in the 'Edit' tab, I cannot use either the 'effects' or 'transitions' or my computer crashes. By crashes, specifically I get the following message:
A white window appears in the center of the screen entitled "Microsoft Windows". The error message states "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." And after 20 seconds of thinking the error message goes on to say "A problem casued the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
All other aspects of PE7 work fine. I have imported over 50 raw AVCHD files, mucked about with them, split them, added music files, added titles etc and then rendered to my hard drive and also rendered and uploaded directly to Youtube. All of this works perfectly. Just not the 'effects' or 'transitions' which is very frustrating.
    Regarding my computer/system:
    Pentium i7 920 Quad Core
    12 GB DD3 RAM 1600
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64 bit (the operating system is installed on a seperate solid state drive SSD).
    The storage is 2 x 1.5TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD's
I made sure that both the operating system and Quicktime are both running the most up to date version with all updates.
I would appreciate any feedback/advice on my problem as I would love to be able to use the whole PE7 package.
    many thanks for your assistance.

Thankyou all for all of your responses and advice. I will read all of the additional threads and links that you have pointed out if I haven't already.
To answer some of your questions.
How far do you get when the error message first appears? Do you hit just the "Effects Tab" or "Transition Tab" in Edit Mode, and the error message pops up? Or, do you get as far as selecting a specific transition or a specific effect before the error message pops up? If the latter, which transitions, which effects?
It is immediate. As soon as I click on the "Effects" or "Transition" button in the edit tab the error message pops up. Interestingly though last night I managed to open the "Effects" and apply probably about 3 effects as a test before it crashed out on the 4th trial of an effect. However, the "Transitions" button crashes out immediately when pressed.
Interestingly as well I am able to fade in/out of audio and video by clicking the right mouse button and chosing fade in/out. Not sure if this is part of the transitions part though or a seperate function.
You say that everything else works fine. Could you clarify one point? What happens if you have a Timeline consisting of only photos? Can you apply transitions and effects to them without this issue described for AVCHD on the Timeline?
Hmm...not sure. I have only played with AVCHD video files so far, no stills. Will try it tonight and report back.
Further, if you cut your Timeline content in half, can you then apply transitions and effects to the remaining Timeline? And, it looks like you probably create the Titles toward the end of a project. What happens if you open a new project, create your titles and then bring in your AVCHD to the Timeline? Any more crashes?
Yes I create the titles towards the end of the project. No cannot apply transitions to any part of the timeline. Effects did work briefly as noted above. I will try your suggestion about creating titles before bringing AVCHD files onto the timeline.
So how much available RAM do you actually have when you are running Premiere Elements in the computers' 64 bit system?
Good question. I will check tonight.
thanks again everyone. I test all of the suggestions and do the follow up reading. In the interim please feel free to provide any additional suggestions.

  • PE7 crashes when trying to add titles

i uninstalled pe7 then installed it again.
i get as far as the "Add Title" box, but before I can start typing in it i get...
"Adobe Premiere Elements.exe has stopped working"
    any fixes for this?

    Welcome to the forum.
The biggest cause of crashes with Titler is most often a bad, or corrupt font. This ARTICLE will give you tips, and also tips on tracking down bad, or corrupt fonts.
Good luck, and hope that it is a simple font issue,

  • PE7 crashes when I try to add a title...?

I bought PE7 a couple of weeks ago it's been a great piece of software, my measly 2.26ghz processor and 480mb of RAM handled it just fine and I was really enjoying liking the software.
So it came as a shock to me when one day whilst I was trying to add a title to my video, I was greeted not by a wonderoos selection of fonts but by a message apologizing for 'the inconvenience', the computer I was using did not have access to the internet and so I was unable to send the error report Windows had so kindly compiled for me, PE7 then decided to close...
"Well, never mind" I thought "I've only lost a few minutes work" So I tried again (to add the title), but the same thing happened, and again, and again e.c.t
The program only crashes when I try to add a title I cannot get it to do so any other way and everything else works fine. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a sucspision that one of the fonts may be corrupt, so if anyone knows the name of the folder they are stored in that would be helpful.
    Thanks,

I have a sucspision that one of the fonts may be corrupt, so if anyone knows the name of the folder they are stored in that would be helpful.
You stole some of my "thunder." Titler in PrE and in PrPro is very, very sensitive to fonts and problems. Fonts that PS, AI, InDesign and ohters will work with fine, will bring Titler to its knees. These can be corrupt fonts, badly formed fonts and even certain fonts. This also happens before Titler ever gets open. It occurs when it surveys the installed fonts on the system.
Now, and this might depend a bit on your exact OS, your installed fonts are stored in C:\Windows\Fonts.
I use a utility, Extensis FontDoctor to survey, repair and/or replace any bad fonts. A freeware program, FontFrenzy, (you do need to register, but it's still free) will do this too. It's so very much quicker, than the manual way of finding bad fonts.
One thing that I like about Font Doctor is that it can survey my entire system. On my workstation, I have over 12,000 fonts, though usually no more than ~200 loaded at any one time. Still, if I do install any, I do not want them to break Titler either. I use the Extensis Suitcase to manage/dynamically install these other fonts, as is needed for Projects.
Be aware that there are some fonts, that just kill Titler, regardless of what Font Doctor, or FontFrenzy say about them. One is Deja Vu, which is installed when one gets SunMicro System's Open Office. Something is wrong with that font, but it's not corrupt - it just flat kills Titler. I do not have an entire list of these rogue fonts, but would also suspect that some of the older Corel fonts might do the same. My recent Corel WordPerfect fonts do not seem to have any issues and I use several of these.
Try FontFrenzy, and see if it finds any corrupt fonts.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why PE7 crashes after loading faulty avi file

Hi - Problem on this Vista Home Premium system and PE7 occurred after loading a faulty avi file. Now every time a new project is started a blank icon appears where the files usually reside. Just clicking on this icon causes a white flash, the screen changes to white and the program is being crashed. This occurs even after two clean reinstall of PE7. So I figure this faulty file resides somewhere in one of the program files but cannot figure where and why it is picked up on a brand new project causing the program to be unusable until restored to it's original state. I use PE7 along with PSE6. Everything was working fine until this happened. Any ideas why ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Phil

I'm sorry, Phil. I'm still not sure how your whole system got corrupted, even if your AVI was bad. But, if you were capturing AVIs from a Canon HV in DV Lock mode, I don't see how even the AVI was bad! So something odd is going on that must run deeper than just a corrupt file.
Assuming there's nothing out of the ordinary that you're not telling me (like that you're editing on a second or external drive or that you're working on a home-built system), I'm rather stumped.
Try holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on the left side of your keyboard as you launch the program. This often clears corruptions in the program.
You can also go to C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ALL USERS/APPLICATION DATA/ADOBE/PREMIERE ELEMENTS and delete -- or just rename -- the 7.0 folder. In case this, too, has corrupted, the program will recreate it.
Meantime, you say you've reinstalled the program. You can try uninstalling the program then deleting the C/PROGRAM FILES/ADOBE/PREMIERE ELEMENTS 7.0 completely -- just to ensure the program is completely removed. Then reinstall it clean.
As I've said, version 7 is a pretty stable build. Corruptions and problems with it are rare. I assume you maintain your computer, keep the operating system up and date and regularly defrag your drive(s) and run a virus scanner.
The FAQs to the right of this forum detail my regular maintenance regimen. I also walk you through it in my books.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30
You do want to eliminate every possible cause. Sorry. I know that's no fun.

  • PE7 crashing with new NVidia Drivers

Just a note, I updated to the NVidia 191.xx series driver, from the 190.xx version, on my notebook and my desktop PC.  Both crashed whenever I used the scrollbar to scroll down the effects or transitions area.  I went back to the 190 series and it's fine again.
Just a note the latest 191.xx series drivers from NVidia caused PE7 to become unstable on both my PCs, both running 64 bit Vista.

Check out this thread, there have been quite a number of posts on various Forums concerning nVidia issues with the latest drivers:

  • PE7 Crashes w/Vista & and good computer

I recently upgraded to PE7 (from PE4) so that I would work with AVCHD video from my new HD camera. I have a Dual-Core 2.66 MHz processor, and 4GB of memory, and am running Vista 32-bit. I'm only try to edit and work with about 25 minutes of video, but, I keep crashing. I'm also watching the resource monitor on my computer and see that PE7 is using very close to the 2GB of available memory. Before the crashes, I get the warning that I am running low on memory, and that I should do a save, but I crash anyway. Rendering is impossible without crashing. I've really gone through my computer (which I had to do even with PE4) to maximize the efficiency of the computer. In msconfig.exe, I've stopped all the unnecessary services, and I've removed everything from the Startup group that isn't absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, I still can't even get started with PE7 without crashing. I've also completely removed and reinstalled PE7 and that didn't help. Any suggestions anyone would have would be GREATLY appreciated!! By the way, I have a fairly healthy and fast video card. However, I was wondering if an even better video card would help, AND/OR if it would help if I was/am running a 64-bit version of Vista. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

As always, Steve's suggestions were very helpful. Most helpful was when I disabled many of the 'decorative features' in Vista...such as desktop appearance, mouse/icon movement, etc. I also reassigned memory (in Vista) as Steve suggested in the messages above. I don't have a beautiful desktop anymore, but who cares!....I do have PE7 running without crashing. I definately think that the most common factor that is crashing PE7 on peoples computer is the fact that they are trying to process AVCHx video with a computer that simply isn't up to the task. Right on the PE7 box, Adobe states that you should have at least a Dual-Core processor, running at 3MHz+, and that you should have 3GB of memory. Unfortunately, most computers with Dual Core processors have no more than a total of 4GB of memory. Take 2GB away for the computer, and you're only left with 2GB. Steve's fix (for reallocating memory in Vista) seems to work and should definately be used by anyone who is running Vista with a total of 4GB or less. By the way, AVCHx video comes in two varieties: the High Def variety (AVCHD), or the Standard Def variety (AVCH.264). Even though there are two varieties, they BOTH are extremely data intensive formats and they both take a very young and healty computer to edit them. For people who simply don't have the computer power and don't want to spend $1000+ for a new computer, Steve also recommends using software that will convert AVCHx video to a more universal video format (such as .avi or .wmv). Then, after the video is converted, it can be imported into PE7 and processed with less difficulty. Believe me, when Adobe or any software manufacturer stated minimum hardware requirement for their product, it is definately something to read and pay attention to. And, if you're just on the fine line of meeting the requirements, it will be most likely that you will encounter problems. I've looked at forum for Sony Vegas and Pinnacle software, and the complaints and problems are nearly identical. Bottom line is: Good video requires a 'GOOD COMPUTER!' Good Luck. Kent

  • PE7 crashes at start when loading CompilerAIFF.prm

    Hi there,
my Premiere Elements 7 crashes when i try to start it. After 2-3 Seconds it says "Loading CompilerAIFF.prm" and then it crashes. I tried to find a soluton via search etc. Can you help me pls?

First, ensure that you have the latest version of Quicktime, an important element in Premiere Elements' function. In fact, ensure that all of your drivers and firmware are updated.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c057647/2
If that doesn't solve it, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the program. You will not lose any work in progress doing this.

  • Timecode error when capturing with USB in Premiere Elements 7

When trying to capture video from my DV I get an error "\src\Timecode.cpp-955" and PE7 crashes.
I upgraded from PE2 to PE7, and I just checked that it still works in the old version.
I'm using a USB cable, so the Device Control is set to USB Video Class and split scenes are set to content. The camera is a Panasonic NV-GS300 and I'm on Win XP Pro with SP3, Celeron 2.8 Ghz, 2GB RAM.
    Any ideas?
Will a firewire solve my problem?

I would not recommend capturing over USB in Premiere Elements -- even though it supposedly works with USB Video Standard 1. The results are too inconsistent and problems, at least in my experience, are common. It's really a pretty obsolete video capture method.
Try it with FireWire and you'll likely see the problem go away.
But it still might not hurt to make sure everything is updated on your computer -- that you're using XP SP3 and that you have the latest Quicktime and firmware for your graphics card.

  • Premiere Elements 7 freezes, haults, blows up, etc.

I have recently purchased premiere elements 7.0 and I am not happy with it. I have a Dell XPS system with 2GB Ram, and over 200GB of free space on my hard drive. I am creating a movie with JPG's from my Canon DSLR that have been downsized them to 1024 x 680 before putting them in. My movies have been downloaded from a Sony Handycam HD camera to the wmv format before bringing them into Premiere Elements. I render my pics and movies everytime I put around 10 into the project and then do a save. I have tried to create a 3 1/2 hour movie on DL DVD's but this program seems to blow up all the time and eventually won't even load the project. I have exported small projects to avi format and reloaded them, which seems to work but after converting to wmv then exporting to avi and then bringing them back into premiere elements, the movies seem blurry. I decided to cut my project in half and I still have memory problems. Premiere says I am running low on memory and better save the project. When I check how much memory I have left, I have 760MB left. I have even closed everything on the task bar. I continue to get memory problems when I don't have memory problems, or the program elements.exe blows up with a "software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x78138aa0). My most recent problem is that I was finaly able to put together a movie about 1 1/2 hours, rendered it, put my theme into it and saved it. Now I am trying to burn, with everything shut down in the system, just elements running and I can watch the memory start at about 1.5GB and it goes to about 650MB and the burn stops, and the program disappears from my screen. I have tried everything adobe says to do on their KB site but nothing seems to help. Anyone have a clue.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I have found a way to make PE7 work with a system like mine. Read below:
I'm trying to put a movie together using JPG's and WMV movies. I have about 450 JPG's that I made all 720 width by using PS7, I let PS7 pick the hight. The movies came from my Sony Handycam HD camera and I used the Sony software to make them into wmv movies. I put them on my hard drive. Why did I use wmv - for some reason, when I used the Sony software and downloaded the movies to MPG, the sound did not come with them. As I said before, PE7 could not handle all my JPG's and movies (total of about 4 hours worth). I was hoping to put a 4 hr movie on a dual layer DVD. Forget that. I couldn't even put a 2 hr movie together. PE7 sometimes just went away on the screen, or I received a C++ error, or memory getting low when I still had 750MB's of memory left and 100GB left on my hard drive and just either froze or disappeared from my screen. I couldn't even move the movie bar too much without PE7 crashing. I found that as I worked in PE7, trying to put a 2 hr movie together, l would have to load about 10 JPG's, do a save, then render them, do a save, bring in about 5 movies, do a save, render those. I kept doing this for days, but as I got about 1 hr worth of movie, PE7 would crash all the time. I finally got 1 hr and 50 minutes all saved and rendered with all my markers, etc. Ready to go right. Wrong. When I tried to burn, the encoding right before the burn would blow up all the time and I couldn't burn the DVD. Days and days of trying to produce a movie and PE7 would just blow up everytime.
    My system:
Laptop - Not the best for PE7
Dell XPS M1730 Dual core, 2GB Ram, 200 GB HD with 120GB left to work with PE7, 512 Geforce video card. PE7 says this is enough - wrong
    OS -XP with SP3
Everything turned off on the task bar.
About 1600 MB left of RAM to work with
This system exceeds PE7 requirements but it is not enough.
Here is a way to create a 2hr or 4hr movie with the system I have:
Continue to load 5-10 jpgs, save them, render them, load 5-10 short movies, save the project, render the project and save the project. Don't go to long without rendering and saving your project. Continue until you get to about 20-30 minutes worth of movie in your project. Do NOT put any markers in because they will be lost when you do continue to do what I did to create a 4 hr movie. You will do them later. Now go to File and export to a Movie. This will put it in AVI format. Once it is saved, start another new project. Start it where you left off and do the same thing again and again until you have all your AVI movies. I ended up with 5 avi movies. Now start your last new project. Get Media (grab each avi file you saved). Put them in order. Now you can put in your markers, title, etc. and shouldn't have memory problems. You're ready to burn. It worked. I finally have a 4 hr movie through PE7 with the system I have above. I forgot to say, I also run a program called FreeRam XP Pro (free shareware). Before starting my burn, I would use FreeRam XP Pro to free up memory. Many times after a render and save, I would use FreeRam XP Pro to free up memory.
I wish Adobe would let everyone know how PE7 really works. You would think by the ads, that my system would work properly. I hate to see how PE7 will work doing HD type movies from my camcorder. I will have to experiment with that one later. Right now, I am tired of working with PE7 over the last 2 weeks.
Again, thanks everyone for helping out here. I hope this helps some others that are frustrated with PE7.

  • Proxies for AVCHD 5.1

First of all sorry about my english and about my poor knowledge in audio.
I need your help for adapting my edit workflow.
This is my workflow when I edit with HDV or AVCHD source footage:
I create one AVI file for each source footage file (with DV MainConcept CODEC for video and copying the stream for audio). For this task I use DGAVCIndex(for AVCHD files) or DGIndex(for HDV files), Avisynth, and VirtualDub (wow!)
I edit with Premiere Elements 7, but instead of using the source files I edit with the proxy files, because the edition is very fast.
When I finish the proxy proyect, I close it from PE7, I open the proxy proyect file with WORD, rename all '.AVI' for '.MTS'(for AVCHD) or '.M2T'(for HDV), and I save the final proyect file.
I open the final proyect file in PE7 and then I share it to a file or to a BlueRay
My camcorder is an HV30 Canon model, but in a few months I would like to change it for a TM900 Panasonic model. I was waiting for something new coming from Canon but Canon is living in the past (where are the 60p or 50p canon camcorders for consumers?)
I am trying to adapt my workflow for my future TM900, using one source file coming from the TM700 model. I do not have any problems for converting the image, but I have problems in converting the audio. The audio in the source file is 5.1 PCM format, I copied the stream to the proxy (AVI file), but when I open the proxy in PE7 the audio is mono.
Do you have any idea about how to save the proxy in VirtualDub in order to have 5.1 when I import it to PE7?
I tried with VirtualDubMod, I tried using AC3ACM codec, but PE7 crashes with all of the files created with it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sirineos

The DD AC3 CODEC is used for both 2-channel (stereo) and for 6-channel (5.1 SS).
Now, I produce all of my AC3 DD 5.1 SS from PrPro with the Minnetonka SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in, so cannot comment on using other programs. This THREAD (see D&R Films' Reply) steps through the production of DD 5.1 SS with Audacity, and probably another utility. As I do not need that workflow, I have never investigated it. For some reason, I cannot find Terachild's original post, but think that D&R Films has copied most of it.
Now, PrE can Import fully DD-compliant AC3 SS files, and easily into a Project set up for DD 5.1 SS, but cannot directly Export/Share to DD 5.1 SS. There will be a stereo (2-channel) mix-down. PrPro can directly Export the DD 5.1 SS, but only with the SurCode plug-in.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
