Performance and Contention problem with the database ?

Hello!
I am having one database which is used by around 95 thousand
users.Database contain about 4 lakh records. The database is
going smooth and perfect.
The problem(perfomance is slow and there is contension too) came
when i made 4 web applications which contain atleast 1000 hits
(1000 records are inserted in the database ) per day.
Now the db is not going so smooth(contention and performance
problem).
I think this is happening becuase of those 4 web applications.
So should i make new database for that 4 applications or i need
to get the new system for it or there is another way through i
can tune my running database.
Any help will be appreciated.

If i well understand, u have one database and u insert 4000 rows
per day and u have performance problem ?
I think u have a big problem cause it's not really a big
intensity on a base. So u should have big problems on ur
database design such as undersized memory area, bad disk
repartition, bad types of indexes or something like that.
To decrease the contention, u should separate ur data and index
datafiles over differents disks and specialize tablespace by the
granularity of the table.
But u r not enough precise to expect a precise answer; could u
be more precise ? as the server u have, data volumes, a select *
from v$system_event, etc...

Once you get past 10.6.6 you can purchase and download iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie. iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued.
Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and higher include the App Store application which is what you use to purchase Lion.

By default , RFC accept date format of SQL date (yyyy-mm-dd) . If you are using a date picker from WD, it directly set the date in SQL date format. Incase if you are trying to pass date to RFC in some other way you have to convert that into SQL date format before passing.
if you are passing String date of format dd-mm-yyyy , you try this method to convert that to SQL date and pass to your RFC.

Sorry, that didn't work. I get no drop down menu from the Hot Sync Manager for the Serial Port. What comes up often is: "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time. Hot Sync Manager will open the port when it becomes available."
Could it be the Norton Antivirus Firewall that is preventing the Hot Sync Manager to open the Serial Port? Just a thought. Thanks for your help.

Scanner and fax problems with the Officejet 7410 AIO

I have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64 bit and I installed the basic drivers for the network of the Officejet 7410 AIO printer and I checked that all its functions worked properly.
Now, the functionality of the scanner and fax do not work more as in the "Devices and Printers" not appear more their relative icons. How come? How do I install them manually?

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are having scanning, and faxing problems with your HP Officejet 7410 on Windows 7 SP1.
I would recommend the following:
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, to diagnose the issue.
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Re-install the software using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

Nokia N85, and my problems with the Nokia N96

Hi there,
First of all, i have both phones (after buying the n85, because of issues with the N96), when i go to send a large file from the n96 to the n85 via bluetooth, it wont allow it as it says not enough memory, it seems that you can only send, what free memory your phones internal system has, im deeply confused as the video im sending is over 88mb, and was passed down from my previous nokias without any problems whats so ever, any ideas anybody??????
Secondly i feel a fool, as i bought like i said the n85 because of the problems with the and i quote" flagship model n96".... well, i can honestly say, ive wasted my money, because after installing the newest firmware 11 on it, it has since been running like a dream, albeit like it should have done last month, but i musnt grumble, now i need to decide which one to put on an auction site.
ps the n96 was bought with 3 network, the other from an auction site, both work fantastically well with the 3 network.

Hi, beg to differ, I would sell the 96. The 85 is far better,OLED screen; a battery that lasts for days not hours; FM transmitter for when you are in your mates car who doesn't have a bluetooth radio; it breathes!!! is sleeker and of course it has a lens cover, for crying out loud why didn't they fit one to the 96!

Performance and usability problems with Illustrator imports

I am usually an enthusiast advocate for Adobe Software. As a UI/Interaction designer I regularly showcase your products as a shining example.
That's why I am somewhat frustrated about the Flash Catalyst Beta. I trust you guys to come out with SOMETHING GREAT eventually, but I have just spend an entire day with Catalyst and it was not particularly a joy. Couldn't you have released it a bit later to save me the frustration?
Situation:
- Medium size Adobe Illustrator CS4 import (10 screens/stages with 20-100 Illustrator objects per screen)
- Target : 800x600 embedded UI for medical product
- Illustrator file chosen as starting point
Performance / reliability problems include
- Crashing (Vista Core2Duo with 2gig of Ram)
- Super poor performance (wait 8 seconds to hide/show a layer)
- No show of thumbnail images anywhere
- No matching of document size (exact 800x600 from Illustrator became 800x599)
- Playing the file did not work
Usability issues
- Poor test display
- Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!)
- Window selecting does not work well
- No hand tool
- No ability to lock layers
- Cluttered interface (Not enough space for the "stage"or what you call it)
- No way to resize Illustrator elements from one of 9 edge/center points
- etc. etc.
Building a wireframe version from the ground up (with Illustrator import) seemed to work fine
I played around with the MS Blend beta for a while, and while the basic concept of your product is much more clear, the execution of the MS product in the beta phase was lightyears ahead in terms of stability and usability
I'm sure you can do better!

Thank you for the detailed feedback about the performance problems you have experienced and your thoughts about features you would like. Let me respond to each of your points
Performance: We are aware that Catalyst doesn't perform well with large complex files. We have made many performance improvements since the current plublic beta, so you should find Catalyst more responsive with larger projects when the next beta is posted.
Here are a few things you can do to work around the performance issues you are seeing with the current beta:
- Consider rasterizing complex elements that don't need to scaled in Catalyst
- In Catalst turn complex artwork into optimized graphics using the "Convert to optimized graphics" in the float HUD (heads up display panel)
We have also found that particularly on Windows that Catalyst can run out of memory with large files. This area is also being worked on so stay tuned for the next beta.
Features:
- Poor test display [tv] Do you mean the design display doesn't match the appearance of the published project?
- Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!) [tv] we have fixed a lot of bugs here. Expect this to improve a lot in the next beta

Performance and Stability Problem with PE9

I just upgraded my computer to a Core i5 with 8G of memory and everything is running much faster. But my NEW PE9 just run very slow. Some of the simple tasks take 10-30 second to complete. Even Windows 7 will often come out to ask if I want to wait for PE9 to wake up or kill the process. When I want to change the size of a video clip, it just doesn't work at all due to performance. It will take PE9 20-30 seconds to resize the video clip. Without some realtime feedback of the size, it is impossible to do the resizing and this is a very fundamental operation. PE9 often crash or seize up as well, I didn't have any of these problem with PE3.0. I upgraded to PE9 simply because my PE3.0 for WIndows XP is not comletely compatible with Windows 7 (some of the text displace does not show up).
Do anyone else have issue with performance and stability?

Problem with the Database....

I have something wrong with my production Instance... The Database server CPU goes up to 70%. I executed some performance queries and I get the following ..
BUFFER_GETS SQL_TEXT
74434 SELECT count(*) FROM ...............
74166 SELECT PAYROLL,.............
71063 SELECT ........
214 rows selected.
I get 214 rows whose buffer_gets > 70000.... What steps we need to perform to tun the database?

What you just did is the first step. You identified the top SQLs running on your system. You can use Oracle Top SQL, Precise, Quest Central or any other GUI tools to identify the top SQLs easily. Or use the built in STATSPACK for that.
From there, you want to make sure that all SQLs are part of your application code, and are not developer queries used for reports (prepare a different database for that purpose). If the count(*) query is a valid statement, you should think if a materialized view is something you can work with instead of counting the data in each statement.
In short:
- Find the top ten queries in you DB.
- Identify the execution plans for each statement. Resolve full table scans and bad joins. Make sure the data is accessed in an optimized way.
- Look for a way to use mviews to summarize data in advance.

I use an iMac (27" 3.4) and have problems with the Magic Mouse. It does not use contact, but opens useless and unrelated submenus with every click, even on the empty desktop. I can't shift, open or close pages. Has anyone out there the same problem?

I use an iMac 27" (mid 2011). Until recently I had OSX 10.6.8 installed, but both, the HDD and SSD had to be replaced, and I lost all the memory.
After the repair through Apple Care I had OSX 10.7.5. (Lion) installed, which developed a Magic Mouse problem.
Unlike with most users, I have no problems with connection, but grapple with a different kind of erratic behaviour.
All fancy stuff is turned off in the mouse preferences. When I try to move, open or close pages, unrelated submenus pop up and hinder the
required task. No matter how often I click, these menus stay there, and they even come up when clicking on the bare desktop.
It renders the mouse absolutely useless, as no work can be done with it.
The first 'Magic Mouse' had depleted batteries every few days, despite switching it off after use.
I was supplied a new Mouse, which does better battery-wise, but the problems are the same. I can't get a result by clicking on any link, due to
the pop-up menus, so both 'Magic Mice' are totally useless.
At present I am using the old USB mouse from my Mac Pro, and that works still o.k.
The problem are not the mice, but the software. The first 2 weeks after installation of OSX 10.7.5 the Magic Mouse worked though.
I have no idea as to what the reason may be.
Has anyone in the community ever experienced that particular problem. Any hint would be welcomed.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

I purchased CS6 and had problems with the Adobe Acrobat Pro so i uninstalled and now need to reinstall but serial number wont work. How can i reinstall ONLY Adobe Acrobat Pro since its included in CS6?

I purchased Design Standard CS6 the entire package. I downloaded and installed but I was continually having problems with Adobe Acrobat Pro. I tried updating to the newest version but it only made the problems worse (acrobat was super slow and constantly not responding). So i decided to try to uninstall and then reinstall the program. Well I uninstalled, and then attempted to reinstall ONLY the adobe acrobat pro but it says my serial number (which is for design standard) will not work. Since Acrobat Pro is included in the suite, i thought this wouldnt be a problem. Is there anyway to get around this without uninstalling the entire design standard and reinstalling everything? I only need to reinstall acrobat pro.

You need to reinstall Acrobat the the Creative Suite, you cannot download it is a separate application and install it that way because it will be looking for a serial number relative to being a singly purchased application.

Jdeveloper problem with the dataBase view

i have toad database and jdeveloper 10g installed on our
machine. i connect our database in jdeveloper by using new
database connection wizard.and the test connection give success ..
the problem is i can see all the tables and views data but the views that i have access to view from another schema i can see in toad but not in jdeveolper ?!!
so why is it ?

Check if you have a filter defined on your database connection.
If you can upgrade to 11g, then you'll find the other users on the "Other Users" section of the database browser.

Des3encrypt and des3decrypt problem across the databases

I have used des3encrypt to encrypt some data in instance 1. In instance 1,
I can use des3decrypt to decrypt that data.
Now I did a full export of database using expdp full=Y
I recreated my database (instance 2) and did full import using impdp full=Y.
I am however finding when I use des3decrypt with same key which was used to encrypt;
desdecrypt gives garbage data. In Instance 2, if I create some new data
and encrypt using des3encryprt. I can then decrypt it using des3decrypt without problem.
Similarly If I do expdp of a table in instance 2 which contains encrypted data and
Then delete that table in instance 2 and do an impdp of that table, data comes back encrypted and
Then I can decrypt it using des3decrypt. So expdp and impdp are capable of keeping encrypted data.
I am using same key in all encrypt/decrypt functions. If anyone has insight in above problem, please let me know. Thanks,

Are you storing the encrypted data in a VARCHAR2 column? Or in a RAW column? And which overloaded variant of Des3Encrypt and Des3Decrypt are you using?
I would strongly suggest that you store encrypted data in a RAW column because encrypted data is essentially binary data. If you store data in a VARCHAR2 column, the Oracle Net layer is going to potentially perform character set conversion every time it is sent over the wire. If that happens, your encrypted data is going to be corrupted, which is what I'm wagering is happening in your EXP process. On the other hand, if you stored the data in a RAW column, Oracle would know never to do character set conversion.

Performance and bios problems with K8T

Hi, I recently installed a new graphics card (6800 LE) but when I went to benchmark it the scores were way down, 6377 in 3dmark 03 and 28,421 in Aquamark, and that was after I had installed the latest bios and mobo drivers from MSI, unlocked the cards pipelines to 16 and shaders to 6, installed the latest XG Nvidia drivers (80.40 ) and checked about everything else I could think of.
I looked at RivaTuner and in the Northbridge info it said AGP status - disabled and in the Display Adaptor info, AGP status - disabled. In the bios the setting for AGP is greyed out ( or blued out ) so I am unable to set it to 8X or even check what it is set for.
Just to add the icing on the cake I now find that I can't get into bios with my existing keyboard as it's a USB model. I refitted my old ps2 keyboard and got into bios where I enabled the setting for legacy devices but there was no setting for usb 1.1 port 64/60 Emulation as listed in the manua.
