Performance Settings - Slow only?

You know there is an option called performance settings under Frequency/Voltage control.
And you can choose to use Slow Fast Turbo Ultra-Turbo
But if i choose fast, I cant even boot
What do I need to use those faster options??

My Spec?

I wish i can overclock to at least 2.5...
it seems impossible : /
what do I need to increase / decrease to get better performances
atm my CPU temp is 50C

  • BIOS performance settings Slow- turbo

I built my system with focuse on having good performance in games, and included 875P NEO as it was said to have good overclocking possibilies and good performance.
    System is :
    -P4 2.6 800 mhz northwood c
-875p NEO with AmiBIOS 2.2,  Intel chipset (i875p) with driver: 6.0.1.1002
    -2 X  GeIL DDR PC3200 Value 512MB  CAS:2.5
-PowerColor Radeon 9800 PRO 128 MB
-Western Digital Raptor 36,7 GB (S-ATA 150, Cache:8 MB, S-ATA, 10000 rpm, 36GB)  Which OS and programs is running at.
-WD Caviar Special Edition 120 GB EIDE hard drives ( WD1200JB ) for files
    Running on XP without SP1/SP2
I have a few questions regarding this setup:
    1. Whenever I try to boot the system with Turbo, or Ultra Turbo settings enabled, my system goes black, and either turns itself off or do nothing. When I reboot manually after that, I get the msg that DRAM timings are set too tightly, I can then press a button and XP loads and works just fine. However it reset performance mode to slow each time I reboot.
Why is this? Is there still no way to set timings?
    2. CPU ratio (multiplier) is locked, is this CPU related? (or is it a jumper or something like that)
    3. This nifty autooverclock feature included in CoreCenter TM, is it just supposed to go up and in FSB until my system hangs?   This may be a noob question, but when I set FSB manually at lets say 210, it hangs after a while, making this MB less overclokking tolerant than I expected.  (But it works better than the previous version of PowerCore I had).  CPU temp at about 50 C
    4. Is p4, Radeon 9800 pro and MSI 875P NEO known to be a bad combo when it comes to performance?
    5. Why O why.. , do I get down to 5 fps in a game where ppl with 1.8 amd and older graphcard get 15, my CPU usage is at 50% tops
This is really the core of my irritation, much of the reason I bought a new system in the first place was to get a decent FPS in that specific game. Which is Anarchy Online.  And before anyone say it has a poorly made 3-D engine, I will have to add that a person with the same system, same settings, But with P4 3.0 instead of 2.6, runs the game at 20ish, where I get down to 5.
I really hope someone can come with a clever solution to this, you will prob say that I should install SP1, but I have in mind getting win2k instead, so I wont bother. But Sp1 shoudnt have  anything to do with question 1 & 3
Long post, hope someone takes the time to answer some of them though
-Fluke (promise to help you in AO if you come with help  )

Turned off HT, and it seemed to result in a little higher fps, and now it shows 99% cpu usage.
Any good tips on OC'ing in BIOS? , or perhaps what should I not do(?)
Did OC 220 here earlier, and the result was pretty much that I would need better cooling, (got 70 c and freeze), or maybe I should use a vaccum-cleaner, somewhat dusty cooling-bracket (Zalman 7000AlCu).  And I guess another case-fan for better circulation.  Or just maybe get me vapochill or a watercooling system!
, if I could afford it that is, allthough there is no way am I letting water inside my box hehe, I dont trust my plumbing skills at all. Guess this is falling out of topic..,
I read something about BIOS 1.7 being better for Northwood CPU's, I got a little confused wether that was for my 875P NEO or not, and if so, would you recommend I flash back to that version?
    Thanks for all help

  • Photoshop CS5 interface gets really slow *only* when an image is open

So this is really odd. Photoshop gets really slow when any image, regardless of size is open. When there are no images open it runs smoothly. The interface gets really laggy, filter usage, tool selection or any other usage is really sluggish, but only with an image open, even if it's a single pixel.
I've tried different performance settings - changing where the scatch drive is, how much memory to allocate, what the cache levels are set at, enabling/disabling openGL, etc. It makes no difference if it's after a fresh reboot or if it's been on for days. No software has changed since the upgrade. Memory test don't show any issues and no other application has this problem - Illustrator, After Effects, Maya, Mudbox, etc. are all fine.
    My system specs
    Windows 7 x64 Enterprise - Service pack 1 installed
    Dual Xeon quadcore E5620 @ 2.4GHx (sixteen threads w/hyperthreading)
    96 GB Ram - DDR3 - 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - registered - ECC
Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 - with latest stable performance drivers v 295.73 (tried changing these, no affect)
Western Digital VelociRaptor  150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s OS Drive
    X3  Seagate Constellation 2TB 7200 RPM SAS 6Gb/s setup in a RAID 5 config
I'd think it would be a memory issue if all apps had similar problems, or if PS had issues when just being open. It's odd that it happens only when an image is open.
Thanks for any an all help.

Just to make sure, did you close and restart Photoshop after changing OpenGL settings and before testing?  That's important, and not having done so could lead you to invalid assumptions.

  • Mac Mini performance very slow after upgrading to Mavericks

Since upgrading my Mac Mini to Mavericks, its performance has become progressively slower.  The first issue I noticed was a freezing of the clock display on the upper-right of the menu bar.  I often leave my Mac on overnight to stream music and increasingly when I check the clock in the morning it has frozen at somepoint during the night.  When I move the mouse over arrow over the clock, it turns to "busy" and I clicking on it does nothing.  Changing the clock setting in system preferences does nothing to the displayed time, however the clock in system preferences is not frozen and displays the correct time.  Rebooting is the only thing that fixes the problem.  Lately the system has been performing progressive slower.  The boot-up/restart process takes several minutes now (>= 5min) and opening a program takes about as long as it did on my PC 20 years ago.  When the computer is awakened up from sleep mode all of the open programs have to be force quit because they are unresponsive.  Often, at this point, trying to open a menu in the menu-bar, saving work on a spreadsheet or navigating through folders in the finder takes an unusually long time, whereas it used to happen almost instantaneously before Mavericks was installed.  I would really appreciate feedback/advice.  Thanks, Aaron.

  • Browser based InfoPath Forms in SharePoint 2010 performance has slowed down after SharePoint 2010 SP2

    hi All,
Our Browser based Infopath forms have slowed down drastically after applying SharePoint 2010 SP2. Prior to this, we had SharePoint 2010 SP1 and the timings was around 10 seconds (single user) for the entire infopath form to be displayed which has 10-12
views and 5 data connections and 15 business rules and around 100 fields.
But now after applying sharepoint 2010 sp2, the performance has slowed down and it now takes for a single user around 50 seconds.
Refer to the link below, which we followed by applying the patch as well, but the performance is still the same very slow.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0b673324-01c4-49f7-86cb-647aa43fefd6/infopath-browser-forms-extremely-slow-after-service-pack-2-upgrade?forum=sharepointadminprevious
We have raised a ticket with Microsoft, but there is no concrete resolution as to what component of the infopath has made the form rendering and display slow.
Can someone point me to the right resource or knowledge base where i can do a kind of debug, which tells me exactly which infopath dlls are the issue or which part of my form is taking more time. I am using AOLPageTest and Fiddler, but they do not give me
any details where exactly is the bottleneck.
Any tools that give me the details of the bottleneck.
Thanks and appreciate your help in this.
    Regards
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

    hi inderjeet,
The application has gone live and its on production, the same application is on pre-prod and UAT, system testing and integration environments.
The infopath form used to work very well on all these environments before we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2. but the moment we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2, the infopath forms have slowed down.
Microsoft has acknowledged that there is an issued with sharepoint 2010 sp2 and infopath form performance, but they are not able to provide an appropriate fix on this.
We have another environment where there is no sharepoint 2010 sp2 applied only sp1 is applied and the infopath form works very well within fraction of seconds.
So your point no. 1 and 2 and 3. does not reveal anything. Fiddler does not give any detailed component by component breakup where the time is taking more.
The form used to work very well before we applied sp2.
I want to know a tool that gives me exactly component by component grant chart kind of breakup of time taken when the infopath url is requested on the browser.
    Thanks

    Thanks Ram

  • Database is performing to slow

    Hi all,
I have oracle 8i database with only 5GB data. My database is performing too slow. Cal any one tell me step by step which poction and where i have to look for increse the performance. Plz provide me some steps which i should follow.
    Thanks & Regards

My database is performing too slowA very generic statement which is actually misleading.
There could be a particular application/module which is performing slow, in turn slowing down the whole system. There could be some SQL that some user has fired, taking up all resources on database server (f.ex. cartesian join on seven tables as the developer thought that was a simple SQL before he could submit a more "complex" SQL).
If you dont know where to start then you need to setup statspack in first place and get the snaps running at say 15 minutes interval. Then analyze the statspack reports to get a better picture of the database performance.
If you know that after plugging in a particular module, your database is going down in terms of performance, then you can take it out, review the same, trace it, debug it and fix it.
At the end I would go in for reviewing the instance parameters and tune them. If even after tuning the instance parameters, you are facing the performance problem, then I would review the hardware.
That, in short, would be my plan of action.

In addition to abrody's questions, have you downloaded non-Apple software that may be automatically loading, and perhaps not Lion-compatible? Go to System Preferences, users, and look at login items under your user ID.  This is easy to check ... do a safe boot by holding the shift key down when you boot. The boot itself may take longer than normal, but once the boot finishes, if the performance is what you'd consider normal, look to your login items. Also, while looking at System Preferences, look at any programs noted at the bottom of the window.

  • Database performing Very slow  - Lots of wait events

My database is on Oracle10g on Sun 5.10
The users are complaining about database is very slow.
I analyzed the indexes & later on rebuild them, hardly it has only 5% performance improvement.

  • Mobile component performs very slow

    Hello,
I have created a component wich actually draws a country map containing about 400 cities.
My first approach was to write a 'country' class (UIComponent) which created 400 city objects (UIComponent also).
Each city object draws its own shape using graphics object.
Result was a beautiful country with colored cities in it.
But... testing on iPhone or iPad was really slow.
    So I decided another approach:
I created only one class which extends from Image.
In it, I used the graphics object to draw all cities. The result is just one image object about 2500 x 2000 pixels.
Result: almost no performance gain! Very, very slow.
    I'm just using one image!
Any ideas how I can get better performance?
    Thx,
    Dany

I don't quite understand what you mean with 'If Re: Mobile component performs very slow shows up near the top'
I do use a lot of points to plot but only while drawing on the graphics object. Once that is done, I only have one image object sizing about 600 x 400. I've put it in a scroller.

  • New performance settings in SPRO (2004s)

    Hello,
Does anyone know how we should set the parameters in SPRO for maximum performance?  NOTE: We are running on Oracle 10g.
According to note 938040, these parameters should replace the DB_STATISTICS entry we used to have in RSADMIN.  Is this true?
There are actually 2 sections in SPRO:
    1. A global section in SPRO/SAP NetWeaver/Business Intelligence/Performance settings/Settings for Database Interfaces.
The way I understand this section is that if your DBMS is able to handle histograms, you don't have to tick the check box.  Assuming we run the stats in Oracle on a daily basis, is it okay to leave the checkbox unchecked?
    2. In the Oracle specific section in SPRO/SAP NetWeaver/Business Intelligence/Performance settings/Settings for Database Interfaces (Oracle).
From what I read through the help, we can speed up the index rebuild by unchecking the "Logging while index" check box.  We've done some testing in C&B and so far so good for this one (we are about to test it in PROD).  However, with the "Degree" field, wether we put 0 or 8 in it and we launch a massive aggregate, we haven't seen any difference.  Does anyone has any experience with that field?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

    Hi
    Your assumption is correct.
Let me first enlighten you throwing light on the purpose of using the parameter DB_STATISTICS,it was used in prior 3.x versions and I was able to leverage it for maximum use;however there are pros and cons to it.
    <b>Example -</b>
    Point -1
DB statistics (optimizer statistics) are created at certain times in BW. These processes can occupy a considerable portion of the runtime, especially in the case of large scenarios (large InfoCubes, many aggregates).  The relevance of the DB statistics is particularly important if a roll-up or change run (or other loading or loading-related processes) is executed at the same time that queries are being executed.
If, however, a roll-up or change run takes place during a <b>Night time or Weekend</b> window, in which very <b>Few</b> queries or no queries are running, it may be useful not to create the DB statistics at first but to create them at the end of the process. To do this, you can deactivate the DB statistics in BW.
You can deactivate the DB statistics initiated by the BW system by making the following entry in the <b>RSADMIN</b> table; You can use the SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN ABAP report for this:
    Object: <b>DB_STATISTICS</b>
    Value: <b>OFF</b>
OR using SPRO as you mentioned above.
    Point -2
    Check Box - "<b>Logging while Index</b>"
By default, Oracle database logging is deactivated for index structure. This means that indexes cannot be restored from a database backup. They need to be structured again with the transaction <b>RSRV</b>.
So I hope you have used RSRV ??
If this parameter is <b>SET</b>, the index structure is written to the database backup. This can lead to a quicker restoretime but <b>SLOWS</b> down building of the index.
    <b>DEGREE</b> (Option)
This parameter sets the number of parallel processes that Oracle can use when building the aggregate/index. The value 0 corresponds to the default value in Oracle configuration  ('PARALLEL DEFAULT').I am in the DEV so yet to validate and give proof of concept for it..
    Hope it Helps

  • KT3 Ultra 3: Crashes on high-performance settings

    Hello, another frustrated newbie here.
Here's my problem.  I have an AMD 2200 xp processor.  When my computer boots up it says I have an AMD 1500 processor.  Yes, I know I need to change to FSB speed to 133 then I'll have a 2200 processor.  But here's the rub, when I change the FSB setting to 133 in the bios my computer crashes on reboot.  The only way to not crash is to go back into the bios, return to defaults (100 speed FSB) and then the computer works again.  It also crashes when I try other high-speed settings in the bios.  Everything else is working fine.  I've updated all the drivers I could find.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I am reliying on the expertise of this forum.
    Thanks

Hi, using "High Performance" settings actually tweak on few hidden BIOS settings that's not visible in the BIOS menu. You can firstly, load "BIOS Default" settings, and then set the rests to high performance settings.
IF you still prefer to stick to "Load High PErformance Settings", then you might need to tune down your DRAM settings instead, tune to what your DDR RAM is capable of.

  • Performance settings

    Hello,
I had a few questions regarding PS performance.
    **Quick note about usage**
I mainly use PS for image stacking.  Usually between 30 -50 photos each around 25MB in size.  After stacking them and blending them I usually flatten and then from there make between 10 -30 layer adjustments etc.
    **Quick note about specs**
    Win 7 64bit
    i5-2500K cpu
    16GB DDR3 RAM
    GTX 460
    1TB 7200 HDD (always kept defrag'd)
    55GB of freespace on SSD
    1.  I have read that PS uses windows Pagefile for certain things EVEN if free ram is available, is this correct?
    2.  I have read that PS will not store anything on a scratch disc until RAM is unavailable is this correct?
    3.  While working efficiency on status bar ALWAYS shows 100% However I experience lag sometimes, is this normal?
    4. In performance settings I have 8556MB = 8.35GB of ram allotted to PS.  Yet in resource monitor it shows PS consuming 9.33GB of RAM.  How can this occur?
    5.  In status bar scratch sizes shows:  Scratch 10.6G/8.35G.  Now I get that 8.35G is my allotted RAM.  I am assuming that Adobe is WANTING 10.6GB.  So given that Adobe is ACTUALLY getting 9.33GB I am lacking approximately 1.3GB of RAM.  Is this going to a scratch disk or windows page file?
    6.  I have seen some folks say to put Scratch disk on SSD, and other posts I have read say not to because it consumes a ton of writes thus quickening the death of the entire SSD, thoughts please?
    7.  In performance preferences it asks me to choose between: **Tall and Thin** || **Default** ||  **Big and Flat**  Given my above usage which one should I pick?
    8.  If I later start using other design premium apps at the same time, is there a way for Adobe to KNOW that I want a TOTAL of 8.35GB of RAM allotted throughout all Adobe programs?  Obviously I don't want to set them all at 70% RAM allowance, but will they intelligently share the 70% between themselves?
I appreciate the advice and help folks,
    Jordyn

    1.  I have read that PS uses windows Pagefile for certain things EVEN if free ram is available, is this correct?
This hasn't to do anything with that. The page file exists completely outside of the programs. Programs simply request memory from the operating system and the OS decides whether it uses physical RAM or swap space based on its own logic. You simply do not give any consideration to the fact, that the operating system, drivers and otehr programs also consume RAM and that in order to secure functionality, there are safety margins that cannot be passed. E.g. the OS will always have so and so much kernel memory and exclusive memory areas that are not even accessible to applications. Furthermore, Windowes also creates a number of system caches for hibernation, font handling and what have you, further subtracting from what could be used by any single program.
    2.  I have read that PS will not store anything on a scratch disc until RAM is unavailable is this correct?
Why should it? That would be grade A stupid. Why should PS not relegate an image that you are not currently working on to the scratch in order to free up more working memory for your active image? Think about it!
    3.  While working efficiency on status bar ALWAYS shows 100% However I experience lag sometimes, is this normal?
Yes. Your history states and undo queue fill up and even RAM access cycles cost time when shuffling around gigabytes. Feel free to set them to the bare minimum at the cost of not being able to go back or use things liek the history brush... Also OpenGL andf shuffling image buffers back and forth to your graphics card may contribute to (perceived) lag.
    4. In performance settings I have 8556MB = 8.35GB of ram allotted to PS.  Yet in resource monitor it shows PS consuming 9.33GB of RAM.  How can this occur?
The program doesn't run on thin air, you know... There's a difference between working memory and the overall program memory usage as seen by the operating system. Those 8.35 GB are for images, history, undo queu and whatnot, but naturally PS itself wil ltake up some memory even if nothing is loaded.
Same as before - there are reasons to use scratch files and there is an overall higher memory consumption, not just what you assign as working memory.
    6.  I have seen some folks say to put Scratch disk on SSD, and other posts I have read say not to because it consumes a ton of writes thus quickening the death of the entire SSD, thoughts please?
I stick with what I have always said in the past - excessive writing of large data blocks can quickly wear out SSDs and all there giga-IOps capabilities don't change that. They shine as boot drives for quickly launching everything, work nice as web and data servers with tiny data packages, but I would never use them for swap. I have set all my temp variables and pagefiles to platter drives.
No. Most other programs do not even have explicit memory management options and rely on your operating system's dynamic memory management.

  • Photomerge settings help, performance settings?

Having issues using photomerge with the latest version of Photoshop.  I have about 120 images that are 16 mp RAW.  What should I have my Photoshop Performance settings at? Cache Levels and Cache tile size?  Also how much ram should I use?
My system settings are 18 gig of RAM, Core i7 920 like 4 different hard drives, Nvidia geforce 570 HD
I was using windows 8, now trying 7 but they still both crash and or take hours with no results.

I suggest Cache Levels = 6 as this is shown to speed Photomerge up vs. a setting of 4..
With 18 GB of RAM in your system I'd suggest settiing Photoshop to use 90%.  But 18 GB of RAM is going to be WAY too little for 120 images of 16 megapixels each.  48 GB or more (possibly much more) would be helpful for that big a stitch.
Make sure you have a HUGE amount of free scratch space available - I mean at least 400 GB or more.  Scour your system for Photoshop temp files left behind from your past failed runs.
Also, what's your ultimate goal in image size?  Do you really need to stitch the images together after conversion to the full 18 MP size?  Maybe you should set Camera Raw to deliver conversions at a smaller size to reduce system resource usage.

  • Why does this forum perform much slower than form forum in metalink?

I feel strongly that this forum performs much slower than the form forum in metalink where there are even more active and more issues created there.
I don't know why Oracle creates two form forum, which one is faster and another one is slower.
What is the difference b/w them besides here is jsp pages and over there is plsql pages?

Oracle certainly allows you to have users that do not have roles. Or users that don't have any system privileges. Or users that don't have any object privileges.
If you want the query to return a row for every row in DBA_USERS, you would need to outer join all the other tables to DBA_USERS.
