Periodic maintenance scenario

I am trying to create the following scenario in SAP (ECC 6.0):
1. We have a number of DG sets of varying capacities feeding power requirements for different areas and functions (operations) of plant (a large petrochemical complex).
2. Maintenance tasks have to be carried out periodically based on manufacturer's recommendations based on hours run or calendar period. For example the "B Check" has to be carried out every 250 hours of actual running hours OR every SIX Months, whichever is earlier?
3. Once the limit is reached the system to generate a maintenance order automatically.
Can you please help me by describing precise sequence of steps that I must follow? I want the system to generate the order on reaching the threshold of SIX months even when the DG set has not been run at all. (I have already crated objects such as FLOC/equip etc.)
Thanks for help.

Hi,
Got delayed again. Fact is I had a small mishap in office and has been diagnosed with a muscle tear. Currently have a nice (precautionary) cast on my right foot.
Just to come back to your reply, my comments are:
1.    I guessed as much. Thanks for confirmation.
2.    I will take you through the steps I am following.
    a.    My primary aim is that the system would create a maintenance order based on the multiple counter plan.
b.    I have completed all the four steps as was suggested by you including assignment of Task List to the multiple counter plan,
c.    The next steps to achieve the objective would be:
c1.    Scheduling of the multiple counter plan (Tcode – IP30). After creating the plan, from the session itself (IP43) I went to Maint. Plan -> Schedule which is basically IP10 and using “Start” button created Scheduling Call. Afterwards using IP30 created Deadline monitoring but I am not sure what effect it is having (other than a log that “Maintenance plan has been scheduled”.
c2.    I understand I have to create measuring documents periodically so as to update the actual no. of running hours of the DG set (Tcode – IK11) i.e. increase the value of running hours. But after I have created the meas. doc. and on trying to check the new schedule of start of the job I find that instead of advancing the start date it is receding back. Actually during one of such checks the error msg “Release not possible as MaintPlan already released, called or skipped” was received. My point is that if equip. usage has been more than the average value based on the estimated annual value specified in the counter. the scheduled date of the “B Check” should be earlier (i.e. advance). But that am unable comprehend from the scheduling list why it is happening to the contrary. Please guide me on this as to where I am going wrong.
c3.    One question: How does a user check in the system as to the current status of the number of running hours having been completed for the DG set?
c4.    Is there a way that the system generates an alert once it reaches the threshold value (when the actual maintenance i.e. “B Check” has to be carried out)?
c5.    How do I simulate the scenario in the system by inputting the additional running hours done (instead of creating measuring documents)? This will be solely for the purpose of testing if the settings are working as desired.
3.    About the points made by you in your footnote:
    a.    I have created separate Multiple Counter Plans for each DG.
    b.    Could you please elaborate on your following points:
b1.    “You will probably want to have a high Call Horizon on the Maintenance Plans” – What exactly do I need to do for this. Please note that as per my requirements, the maint. job will need to be carried out before the expiry of six calendar months.
    b2.    “You will probably want to have a short Scheduling Interval”. Since I have two parameters in the plan i.e. Running Hours and time based (Month), if I have understood your point correctly, even if no measurement documents are not created in the interim, the system would create an order based on the second parameter (Month) once the value reaches the threshold (i.e. after the Six month period lapses).
    b3.    “This is to avoid a situation where SAP schedules the maintenance based off the Annual Estimate, and the Order is called in advance, but then due to low usage, no new hours are recorded and maintenance should be delayed - but can't be done from the Plan as the Order is already called” – I think this point would be part of the point above i.e. “b2”.
Please let me know if this is in order and the way forward.
Thanks

  • How to club the downpayment and periodic billing scenario in Sales Order

    Hi experts,
    Could you please let me know how to club the downpayment and periodic billing scenario in Sales Order.
    Requirement is :  If you have 10 lacs total amount and out of that 50% should be the downpayment and rest of the amount should be distributed among three equated  instalments for 2 months each (periodic billing). This should work with one line item in sales order. Pls provide relevant inputs how to work out this scenario.
    Your help would be appreciable.
    regards....Diwakaran

    Hi Yang,
    Workflow is the best approach for any issue related to business objects.
    Since you want call FM BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE, it will change SO. It means everytime any SO is changed there will an event being triggered.
    object type: BUS2032
    event: Changed
    simple solution:
    1. Please create object type (SWO1) and its super type should be BUS2032.
    2. Add your own method and attach your custom FM which actually updates the qty & PR)
    3. Create Task (PFTC_INS)
    in basic data:
    - provide object type which you have created
    - provide method which you have added
    goto triggering events tab
    - Choose Object Category as BOR object type
    - provide object type (better give BUS2032)
    - provide event as CHANGED
    Please have look into very nice video blog which helps you to create your workflow.

  • Multiple FDM users processing in one location, period, year, scenario

    Can more than one user go through a process flow for the same location, period, year, scenario with separate data files (i.e. different entities for different locations)? How does FDM handle the queue process?
    Any best practice suggestions for the process flow?

    Actually the answer is yes. I'm not sure why you would want to do this with one exception. Assuming that the files are in the same format, say you get one file that has balance sheet items only and the P&L data comes later. You process the balance sheet file then later you import as an append for the P&L file and process/load that data. I have seen this before. What this does is maintain your audit trail which is very important. Now say all of the bs and p&l come in one file, yet you want to load mutliple entities because each entity has it's own file. The very first file should be imported as a Replace and the remainder of the files should be imported as an append. Once you have imported all of the files you can then click Validate, then Export so that you process them all at once (you do not have to Import/Validate/Export each file) which would save you time. Again, you maintain your audit trail. However, if you import each file as a Replace, then Validate and Export each file seperately then all of your data will still load into the target system, which for example is HFM, but the audit trail only shows the data for the last file you processed. It's always best to have a seperate FDM location for each file (unless it's my first example where the data for a single entity is split).
    On another note, I'm not sure what you mean by how does FDM handle the queue process but it can import mutliple files at the exact same time, such as 5 users importing their own files to their own FDM locations. If these 5 users are importing files at about the same time then the last one to import will "win" so to speak.
    If the different entities from different files are loaded to different FDM locations then there is no overlapping because FDM keeps the data for each location seperate, by location, period, and category. It's the combination of the 3. If you have a location called Michigan, the Period is Jan - 2009, and the Category is Actual and you load data it won't overwritten by any entity unless someone takes a file and imports it to Michigan/Jan - 2009/Actual. If they take their file and import it into say, Florida/Jan - 2009/Actual instead then the two will always be seperate in the FDM database.

  • Periodic Maintenance Scripts

    I read this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3136865&#3136865
    but it is closed so I coldn't post an additional question.
    In understand about how the 3 maintenance scripts are supposed to work (Thank you Dr. Smoke!), but for a variety of reasons I need to put my MacBook Pro to sleep at night. Last night, I set the Energy Saver options to wake up at 3:00 AM, having previously checked to see that the daily script was set to run at 3:15. The computer goes to sleep after one hour, so that should have given enough time for the script to run.
    This morning the daily script had NOT run, and the Console log is filled with entried like this:
    Mar 21 03:30:47 administrators-computer DirectoryService[49]: Active Directory DS Plugin: Kerberos Time Skew Too Large. Check Date/Time!\n
    (There are no entries between 3:00 and 3:30). The computer was not connected to the network where the AD lives (that is at work). Also, this morning when I woke the computer up manually, the clock was set at 3:40.
    I can continue to run the daily script by hand, but I would rather not. Any help will be appreciated.
    Walt

    Make your life simpler. There are some excellent alternatives that completely automate running the maintenance scripts for you. You'll find them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    Macaroni - Shareware $8.00
    Anacron - Freeware
    PseudoAnacron - Freeware
    These utilities check if the periodic maintenance scripts were run at their scheduled times, and if not runs them immediately. They assure the scripts are run when your computer is turned on so you needn't worry about scheduling the computer to wake up at a certain time.

  • Running Periodic Maintenance Scripts in Mountain Lion

    Here's an oldie question that I think has been asked with every new version of Mac OS X.  If a user shuts down his Mac in the evening and restarts in at 7AM the next morning, do the three periodic maintenance scripts ever run in Mountain Lion?
    It's easy to run them manually in Terminal or even with with an Applescript that I wrote, but do they need to be run under the condition I posed above?
    Thanks.

    For those people stating that no one needs to run these scripts or that they're somehow dangerous, please reconsider before posting inaccurate things like that.
    I haven't seen anyone stating that the scripts are dangerous. Clearly, they aren't. They are, however, unnecessary if the system is rebooted every day. The only exception is the periodic daily script 100.clean-logs, which deletes symbolic links in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter to crash and panic reports in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports older than 60 days. The reports themselves are deleted by a different process. Conceivably, if this script didn't run for a long enough time, the boot volume might fill up with broken symlinks to deleted crash reports. How long would that take?
    Well, a symbolic link takes up 77 bytes of storage space. Storage devices, however, allocate space in minimum units of one sector, which is usually 512 bytes. Some of the newer 3 TB hard drives have a 4096-byte sector size. So let's make some worst-case assumptions. Your boot drive is 3 TB, and you have only 1% of that space free, which is 30 GB. You generate 100 crash reports a day -- those being only crashes of system processes, of course, not user processes, which are logged to a different place. So your volume is filling up with symbolic links at the rate of about 400 KB a day. At that rate, it would take only about 75 years to fill it up completely.
    So you're quite correct. If your system is always shut down -- not in sleep -- between the hours of 3:15 and 5:30 AM every day, you should manually run 100.clean-logs at least once every 75 years. Let's say once every 25 years, to be on the safe side. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • Is periodic maintenance really necessary?

    Is it really necessary, and does it really accomplish anything?   And if so, why isn't it mentioned in the user-pamphlet that came with the machine?
    I've read several threads about running "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly", and whether or not it will get run automatically if the machine is asleep or powered off at the scheduled time, and how to run it manually or download tools to automate the process.
    But I've also seen some things saying it doesn't really accomplish much.
    It seems like if it was really necessary that apple should advertise it better and make it more straight forward for novice users to do it.

    Not true. If the Mac is asleep at the appointed hour of the maintenance scripts execution (3:15 am) the scripts will run soon after the Mac is awakened. But if the Mac is turned off at night, the scripts do not run when the Mac is booted. The countdown clock is reset to 0 and if the Mac is consistently shut down before 3:15 am, then the scripts will never run.
    It has already been established in another thread that the OP shuts down his Mac every evening and his Mac's scripts have not been run for some time.

  • Is periodic maintenance required for app deployed on OAS on Windows?

    Hi,
    We have an application that uses 7 BPEL processes and one web service deployed on OAS. Application is into production from the last 4 months.
    We are bringing down the App server once in a while due to applying break fixes, etc.
    But, now, considering the App is quite stable, we won't be planning to bring down the app server for few months. My question is, do we need to schedule planned downtime and restart the application server once in a while in view of memory leaks etc as the App is deployed on Windows Operating System?
    It would be a great if I get some info/links that will give me the exact information.
    Thanks,
    Sasi Bhushan.

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes. Infact we have taken care of log files. But wondering if memory leaks etc could cause total memory consumption and making the app server hung etc.
    So, I am looking for some suggestion on whether we need the app server restart periodically or it's not required at all.
    Thanks,
    Sasi Bhushan.

  • Wipe hard drive clean as part of maintenance?

    A friend recommended that I completely wipe my hard drive clean and reinstall the OS and all programs from scratch as a way to maintain a smooth running machine. My MacBook Pro is 2007 and gets used pretty hard. I regularly move files to an external HD in order to keep space free for operation. It sometimes gets sluggish but i assume that's a symptom of running too many heavy programs at once (I sometimes run Windows on VM Ware while using Photoshop and/or Illustrator with the usual iTunes and a web browser).
    Is this a necessary or advisable form of maintenance?
    thanks in advance for advice!

    No. That is not maintenance. This is maintenance:
    Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
    OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
    I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc. Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
    For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack (not compatible with Snow Leopard.) If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack is not compatible with Snow Leopard.
    When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
    Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
    6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    7. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
    9. SilverKeeper 2.0 (Freeware)
    10. MimMac (Commercial)
    11. Tri-Backup (Commercial)

  • Taking wrong cost element in Preventive maintenance.

    Hi Pm Gurus,
    I am running Preventive maintenance scenario. I have created T/L with External service as control key (PM03) and given description of external service (no service no), entered material group, cost element, price, Purchase group etc. when the call object is generated from the mainteance plan which is assigned with the above task list, i am not able to see the cost element in Maintenance Order external services view, the purchase Requestion is getting generated automatically in the maint order, when opening the PR the account assignment differs from what i given in the T/L. so at the time of settelment it causing error.
    Kindly let me know what settings i have to check.
    I have already created default profiles for external services, material procurement and assigned to the order type.
    Thanks in advance
    R. Loganathan

    As mentioned in above threads, you can check for cost element in OBYC.
    Cost element for External Service will be derived in following ways.
    1. Create Default Value profiles for External Procurement
    2. If you have maintained material group & valuation class in service master, it will check in OBYC for GBB. Double click that. In the next screen, search for VBR with the valuation class mentioned in service master. Cost element should have been maintained, that will be filled up.
    3. If you have not maintained any valuation class in service master & you maintained material group in service master, it will check for valuation class in IMG => Material Management => Purchasing => Material Master => Entry aids for Items without Material Master. In that screen, search for material group which has been in service master. Take that valuation class. Do the same step as in step 2.
    4. Neither Material group nor valuation class in service master, do the same as step 2 & for the VBR without valuation class would have been maintained. Cost element will be taken from there.
    5. If no data is maintained in above settings, then the cost element will be picked up from task list.

  • Dynamic period columns in data forms?

    Hi,
    We are running HFM v11.1.1.3
    I have some input data forms that shows some different periods and scenarios, however the periods sometimes needs to be changed, so I was wondering if anyone knows a way in doing this dynamic?
    For January we would like it to be:
    C1=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    C2=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR-1
    C3=S#FYE.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    and in March it should be:
    C1=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    C2=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR-1
    C3=S#FYE.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    C4=S#FYE.Y#CUR.P#CUR-2
    in June and September it should be
    C1=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    C2=S#Actual.Y#CUR.P#CUR-1
    C3=S#FYE.Y#CUR.P#CUR
    C4=S#FYE.Y#CUR.P#CUR-3
    so basically this would require 3 different forms, and with linked forms as well it will be many forms. So if there could be build in some kind of if statement?
    Thank you in advance
    Best regards
    Kenneth

    Hi Kenneth,
    Nobody is answering you because there is no way to do that with Data Forms.
    If you are skilled with Excel, and if you understand the implications of going that path, you can create dynamic Excel grids that send data to HFM using HFM functions.
    Depending on your needs and your budget, you can also create a custom web application that would replace data forms.
    If you want to stick with data forms, then you will need to create 3 forms (+the linked forms you mentioned).
    Not sure that helped...

  • Programmed system maintenance

    I read that OSX has pre-programmed system maintenance and there is discussion on whether the computer should be turned off at night.
    Is there someplace I can check or reset my system maintenance?

    To check when your Periodic Maintenance Scripts, which I hope is what you want to know, open Terminal and type this exactly:
    ls -al /var/log/*.out
    Press Return
    and you should see three lines of info, one for each script: Daily, Weekly & Monthly. The date and time they were last run is in each line.
    To manually run the scripts open Terminal and type:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
    Press return. You will be prompted for your Admin password and you need to type this into Terminal. Be warned, it might take a long time to run the scripts.

  • How to control to complete maintenance order ?

    Hi Experts,
    i want to control maitenance order ( generated from prventive maintenance ) activities should not be performed before its due to date. in case of 100 days cycle period maintenance plan and  95% call horizon, system has generated maintenance order five days before as per standard. i want to keep a control that system should not allow to perform any activity on this order till we reach 100th day.
    Kindly suggest the wayout.
    Regards,
    Murthy.

    Dear krishna murthy
    You can restrict the order release unless & untill the execution date has been reached. This you can code using user -exit at the time of order release/save. Prevention of Release of order can restrict printing of order & in result you can prevent pprocessing of order till the actual planned date.
