Personal settings resetting on reboot

I've had my macbook for about a month now, and for the past couple weeks everytime I reboot some sort of setting would get reset to default. At first it was my firefox homepage, then my adium settings, then my dock. All of which, while annoying, weren't really big deals.
But now everytime I restart my parallels virtual drives are corrupting. This is a critical problem for me since this is my work computer and half of my apps are run on windows, half on mac. This has happened the past 3 days I've come into work, and each day I've had to uninstall/reinstall parallels, reinstall windows xp, and reinstall all my apps... not fun and takes me out of working capability for 2 hours or so.
Any idea why this might be happening? We are upgrading to leopard soon, but thats a company decision, not mine.
Thanks

  • When dual-booting with Windows 7, Mac OSX time settings reset every reboot.

I have recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro via BootCamp (Running Mavericks BTW). Everything runs grean and have not experienced any problems on the Windows side, but I have a problem with Mac OSX now. When I am using Windows 7, and I reboot into Mac OSX, I find that my time settings are wrong. It seems like my time zone has changed, because the date is correct, as well as the minutes, but the hour is always wrong. When I go to Date & Time in System Preferences, and my time zone is correct, but I still have to chage the hour in the time. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

If you dual boot your Windows PC with OS X or Linux, you may have experienced a problem in which your clocks reset themselves incorrectly every time you boot into Windows. Here's a simple registry edit to fix that.
Essentially, the incorrect clock setting happens because OS X and Linux use GMT time while Windows tries to synchronize with your local time zone, getting confused when you reboot between the two. Apple's own Boot Camp drivers for Windows are supposed to fix this problem, though some users have noticed that it still happens even with the drivers installed, and some Linux users are left out in the cold. Furthermore, if you have a Hackintosh, you can't install the Boot Camp drivers, so you'll need to find another way around the problem.
To fix it, just hit Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. Hit Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
Lastly, reboot into OS X, then reboot back into Windows. You should now notice that your clock actually displays the correct time.

  • Calendar Settings reset after reboot

    Hi,
Could anybody please check if you have the same issue on your phone?
Sony Calendar resets settings after reboot.
For example, if I set "Week starts on" = "Monday" and reboot the phone, this settings will be back to "Sunday" (which is the default).
I am now running Calendar 20.0.A.2.5, but I believe this bug was there before as well (even on my old Xperia V, I believe)
P.S. I found this topic, but either I didn't understand the solution correctly or it doesn't work for me... I tried to disable the Calendar app, but it didn't help in any way...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I will forward this internally for further investigation. I will update you as soon as i have more information.
But as a possible workaround, i suspect you have selected a country/region under Settings -> Language & input -> Language where the week normally is set to start on Sunday like English US? If you are in the Netherlands but want the phone on english you could try setting it to English UK instead to avoid this until i have more information.

  • System Preferences settings reset on reboot.

I have a Mac Pro that keeps loosing is System Preferences. I change the mouse settings and as soon as the machine is rebooted, settings go back to default. I've seen other posts similar to this but no one has had a solution.

    Hello afloc,
You will have to reset your System Preferences to do this but it might help.
    Locate this file: com.apple.systempreferences.plist It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences
Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
    Now try your mouse...

  • Hot Corner Settings reset after reboot

    Hi,
my settings for the hot corners are reset to default (that is nothing) every time I reboot my mac. I have no idea why this is so. Any suggestions?
    Thx
    JaTo

    OOPS! MY MISTAKE, SORRY!
I think those are stored in the com.apple.dock.plist file in Preferences. If you trash it you will lose your Dock settings also. Worth a try though.
Actually moving it to the desktop is a better idea. Then if it is not a solution you can always move your original dock file back and relogin.
There is also a possibility the info is stored in com.apple.finder.plist but I am not sure.

  • 10.6.7 - Audio Settings Reset after reboot & plist missing

    Hey all,
I have a mac pro and I'm having an odd issue similar to http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10412664-263.html.
I set my settings on the sound preferences. Once I reboot the sound setting resets.  It seems to be a preferences issue and as the article states its' located here:
Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio
    The files will be:
    com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate these files for whatever reason they are long longer on
    Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio or  <home directory> Library > Preferences > Audio.
I thought it was find i'll just move it from the new macbook pro with 10.6.7 but that computer also doesn't have these files anymore.
    Question:
    Where are these files

On my computer, those 2 plist files are right where you indicated.   Are you sure you looked in the right place?  Did you use spotlight to search?

Automatic retrievel 15 minutes also reset to none when i use manual refresh on the feed.

  • Settings reset after reboot of device

Well, I found out today that when I reboot my device the normal way (volume down and sleep/wake), my device totally reverts it's settings. This is includes music settings, to my wallpaper, to accessibility.
What's interesting is it's stuck on my settings I had prior to the 1.1 update..so it has sound check on, the zen sand wallpaper I chose, the equalizer I chose, everything.
Anyone else get this or is this another bug?

You would have to drag them back onto the nano from your library. If you have tracks you got from other libraries, you would have to get access to those libraries again to drag them over.

  • Yosemite Notification Settings Reset After Reboot

I searched this issue and couldn't find a similar question. This makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. On each of my five computers running Yosemite (brand new and older Macs) after I reboot, all of my preferences for the Notification center go back to default settings. So if I say Facebook should not be in the Notification center and I deselect any banners or alerts, etc., as soon as I reboot, BAM! Facebook is right back there in the Notification center notifying me like there's no tomorrow. This is mostly annoying (unlike my wifi issues!!!), but I'm pretty sure the settings should stay put.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi there JAS_66,
It looks like the OS X 10.10.1 update addresses this issue. Take a look at the release notes below for more information.

  • Personal Settings Reset to Factory Defaults on Boot Up

    I'm on a mid-2012 Mac-Book Pro running OS X 10.9.4 Mountain Lion.
Every time I boot up my Mac (after it has been shut down) all of the settings on my Mac which I've changed are reset to the factory defaults (for example: the applications shown in the dock, the widgets on the desktop furthest to the left and other general settings such as the motions for the track-pad just to name a few).
Thanks in advance for any help anyone provides.

To fix this problem I have already tried running security programs to remove any malware/viruses from my computer, reinstalling my operating system and running disk utility and using the 'repair disk permissions' option.

  • MSI Control center windows 8.1 fan settings reset after reboot.

I wanted to see if anyone has any information about this. I have a z77a-gd65 motherboard running windows 8.1 and I have saved profiles for cpu fan and sys1/sys2 fans. After reboot the fan curves get reset to factoy defaults.
I didn't have this problem with windows 7 and am running the latest version of Control Center.
Is there a fix for this?  Thanks in advance.

I actually did find a response from MSI in a random query.
They said, 'CC is used for temporary changes, use the bios'.
Which I can see the validity of that statement, but at the same time, what if you want to adjust things to a finer degree than the bios and want it applied after restart?
I know you can save and load individual pages of the Command Center, but still..
I do find it VERY irritating I can't set fan speeds lower than 50% for the System Fans. (or is there a way to do this?)

  • Bootcamp Trackpad Settings Reset on Reboot

I have a 15in MacBook Pro running Vista and every time I start the computer I have to go back into the Bootcamp trackpad settings and turn on "tap to click" and "2 finger tap to right click". It never seems to remember these settings.
Does anybody have any idea what's causing this?

same here. never remembers settings and f keys dont trigger brightness or volume etc...

Hi, I have iphone 4s and since yesterday my personal hotspot will not work. It's always worked fine in the past and I have a plan with three uk which includes tethering. I've tried everything I can think of including resetting network settings, resetting the phone as a new phone but nothing works. When connected to the pc it shows on the iphone screen '1 connection' but the pc says 'no internet connection' I've spoken to three who say it must be a phone fault. Any help appreciated. :-)

If you have restored as new that pretty well covers software issues

  • IPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now  and  have had much better  sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

    freddy,
you don't really need to completely restore as new phone, but reset all settings in my experience and do a full drain and recharge.  it is located settings -> reset -> reset all settings.  this clears all the basic settings (i.e. wallpaper network, etc) back to default, but still keeps all of your apps, email and data as they were.  when it reboots though choose "setup as new phone" after you go throught the basic questions (i.e. lang, location, siri ) setup.  your apps, data will still be there as before.
still midway through my second day (east coast) and after nearly 5 hrs of standby and 30 minutes of data usage, battery is at 93%.

  • HT1695 I have the 1st generation iPad.  All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect.  I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect.  Any suggestions?

I have the 1st generation iPad.  All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect.  I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect.  My other divices are connected....iPhone and 3 Macs.  Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
