Perspective Grid improvements

The new Perspective Grid feature is pretty nice... at first.
But it quickly becomes almost useless as modifying the Grid after Objects are constrained to it does not re-orient the objects.
What's the point? So if we get the Perspective Grid set up, add objects, and if it turns out the Perspective needs to be tweaked... you can't?
It might actually be nicer to have a per-object-based Perspective Tool that does re-transform the object if you move the grid.
And then you could have more than one grid.
Or maybe you could make it so that the Free Transform Tool doesn't redraw the bounding box every time you make a change.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Though I have to admit it took me a half hour to get it to work.
And it's still clunky to work with. I don't think I'll be using it much.
And I haven't been able to summon that dialog you show. I've tried double clicking everything with either Grid tool selected. I'm just not seeing it.
Thank you, anyway. I wouldn't dare using the Perpective Tool without this feature.
About the Free Transform Tool:
What I meant was I'd like to be able to freely distort any object or group in order to make a faux perspective.
When you select an object and summon the Free Transform tool you can stretch any corner independent from the other corners using a secret keyboard shortcut which I can't remember anymore. I hate how so many functions are hidden behind secret keyboard presses in order to make something work.
Actually, I just found it in my notes. With the Free Transform Tool you have to start moving a corner, then, and only after you started to drag you can press the Command (or Control) and then you can stretch that point. I made a sample below. I should have made it into a group of objects so it was clearer what was happening.
Anyway, imagine this: say you have a simple rectangle. With the Direct Selection Tool you can move any corner without disturbing the other 3. That's what I'm looking for. I'd like to do that with any object or group. The problem is when you use the Direct Selection Tool to do it, the Bounding Box resets after every move. If you distort it too much, the corner points in the bounding box quickly become harder to use because they are so distant from the "corner" of the object which they are controlling.
In Corel DRAW it's so amazing simple rather than the clunky steps I have to go through to do it in Illustrator (as in the video).

  • Is there a way view the internal lines of perspective grid?

It would be very beneficial to view all of the internal lines of the sectioned rectangular prism that the perspective grid consists of. This is a standard workflow for drawing 3 dimensional objects. Without this, it is very difficult to draw accurately.
Essentially this but in perspective mode:
    http://mathforum.org/workshops/sum98/participants/sanders/IsomGrid.html
This doesn't appear possible to in CS5. Please specify if this is not the case and if it is possible in CS6.

    Do you mean doing this?
You have toi use the proxy to select the different planes and shift key if you are drawing to that plane but on the grid's base in this case the top of the cube.

  • Use of Perspective Grid (One Point)

I'm new to Illustrator and finding my way around. I found one of the tutorial examples referencing this article on the use of a perspective grid to create a graphic:
    http://www.intraligi.com/project/adobe-illustrator-cs5-pre-release-programm.html
Looking at page 4 and seeing how he has the grid set up, I'm unable to create this same grid. For one thing, when I go to View > Perspective Grid > Define Grid, under Grid Color & Opacity, the Right Grid is greyed out. Also, I can't get the horizontal grid lines to extend all the way to the vanishing point, like he's showing in the example.
Can someone please tell me what I'm missing here and why I can't recreate the perspective grid shown?

    GlennM_ wrote:
I think I got it now how he created the grid that he used. I believe what he did was use a 2 point Perspective Grid, and then moved the vanishing points so that they were (almost) together, creating a single point.
I can create the same effect this way and that looks like how he did it.
I don't think so, they just moved the grid easy enough to do with the grid tool
Grab th circular end of the guide with the grid tool and drag.

  • Perspective Grid: How do I draw a cube showing only its TOP and its FRONT?

Can I create this with Illustrator's Perspective Grid? the 1-, 2-, and 3-point perspectives don't seem to be what I need...

Yes you can draw it with perspective grid.
    Set up perspective grid
Draw a square and rotate it 45°
then drag square into perspective grid
Make a copy by pressing Alt and 5 and moving up
(to measure the distance you could place a copy of the square from step one on one of the sides in perspective grid)
Then use the pen tool to draw the front side by connecting the dots.

  • Attaching Gradient Mesh to Perspective Grid

    Is this possible?
I am using Adobe Illustrator CS5. I have created a gradient mesh brain and would like to place it on a perspective grid. When I select the gradient mesh and choose "Object", "Perspective", the option "Attach to Active Plane" is not select-able. (see screenshot)
How to I attach a gradient mesh object to a perspective grid? I have tried expanding, but the same problem exists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for your comment. I have changed the location of the widget to the bottom left now so you can see it in the screenshot.
As you can now see I have selected the right-most (orange) plane, yet the problem still exists. I can't select "Attach to Active Plane" from the Perspective menu. I have also tried dragging the mesh with the perspective selection tool, but nothing happens...

  • Problems Moving An Object Perpendicular To Its Perspective Grid

I have been following this tutorial: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illustrator-cs5/mapping-flat-artwork-to-the-perspective-gr id/ in which artwork is mapped to the perspective grid.
Towards the end  of the video (7:00) a sign is mapped to the left grid then moved perpendicular along the right grid ... this is achieved by holding down the tilde key.
When I hold down the tilde key and move the object (which is selected with the perspective selection tool, with the correct grid selected ) it does not map it perpendicular as in the video.
I have deleted my illustrator preferences file (in case any settings were causing this feature not to work). Also if I create a new object and press the tilde key and drag I can create multiple instances, so the tilde key at least in this case is being recognized.

  • Type on Right Side of Perspective Grid

    Hi,
I'd like to have a document where I have type skewed on both sides of the perspective grid. I know how to put it on the left side of the grid: Create the type, get the Perspective Grid Selection Tool, select the type and bring it onto the grid and it skews to the angle of the grid. However, when I try to do it on the right hand side of the grid it doesn't allow me. It only lets me angle it on the left hand side of the grid.
How can I get it to write on the right hand side too?
    Thanks!

With the Perspective Grid Tool or the Perspective Selection Tool click in the Active Plane Widget to activate the plane you want to work in. If the widget is not visible, double click the Perspective Tool in the Tools panel and activate it. The relevant information is in the Help files.

  • Can I use CC Perspective grid "in reverse" -- for inside of a room

    Hello
Using windows cc 2014 (most recent update).
I want to draw the inside of a room using the perspective grid if possible.
I see how it's done using a exterior of a building.  But I need it for inside of a room.  See attached mockup.
I know I've seen a cc tutorial somewhere showing how to use perspective inside a room.  But can't seem to find it today.
    Any suggestions and/or links?
    Thanks

with your perspective grid visible, select the "perspective grid tool" from the tool palette or press Shift+P. with that tool drag on the bottom controller of the vertical grids across to the opposite side so that the 2 vertical grids cross each other

  • Perspective Grid: switch orientation on horizontal plane

I have a tall rectangle I want to place on the horizontal plane of the perspective grid.
Clicking that plane in the widget, or slecting the rectangle and hitting 2, results in the rectangle oriented towards the right vanishing point (or 2:00). I need it to point the other way, toward the left vanishing point (to 10:00).
Is there some way to force an object to do that?
Thanks for any help or thoughts on this.

Well, that's just really annoying. I spent 99 minutes and 31 seconds on the phone with tech support trying to get an answer to this with nothing to show for it.

  • Perspective grid frustration

    Hey
Does anyone know if I can change the plane of the perspective grid, and the object on it, after the object has been placed. I am working with type (one word) and hoping to see the perspective of the word change as I move the perspective grid handles so that I can find a shape that I like.
    Thanks

  • Perspective grid: some grids invisible - how to bring them back?

I was drawing an image using 2-vanishing-point perspective grid when, at some point, for a reason unknown to me, 2 out of 3 grids dissapeared.
Currently I have the left (blue) grid, but they right (orange) and bottom (green) grids are not there.
My question is, how to bring them back, without resetting the whole grid?
    Thank you

Or did you hide the grids by Alt-clicking the widget that moves the perspective planes?
    The latter is the case!
I was copying objects perpendicularly, by Shift+Alt+Dragging the widget. I might have accidently Alt+clicked the widget in the process.
Later on, in an attempt to solve the problem I thought I did everything I could with the widgets, but apparently I missed that.
    Thank you!

  • Perspective Grid -- What about Unique Perspectives ?

Using the perspective grid in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014, is it possible to make a perspective that follows the two angles of this image that create an angle sort of like the top of a letter "A" ?
I was able to move the right side of the perspective to the left to create one of the desired angles, but I can't seem to rotate the left side to end up with the other angle.

I think I got it.......  I was able to see another control when I zoomed out..... I dragged this control until I got the desired angle.
The perspective tool initially appears in the perspective of a letter "V".  If you want to have an "A" shaped perspective, I presume you have to drag the right side to the left, and drag the left side to the right to create this other perspective.

  • Perspective grid manipulation

I'm playing around with the perspective grid in Ill CS5. I know that, by default, the 3 point perspective grid sort of has you looking at the edge of a cube. Is there a way to 'invert' it so that you get this kind of shape in the 3 point grid (made up of three perpendicular square sheets)? In this image, you are looking at the interior of a join.

  • Perspective Grid from 3D Extrude Revolve Default

I want to create a perspective grid based on a rectangle that has been 3D extruded and revolved using default settings. The 3D default setting doesn't have any perspective so that means the resulting 3D shape is in 2-point perspective, right? So I should use the 2-point perspective grid and try and draw out all the little widgets and controls to match the sides of the 3D rectangle? That's what I've tried and am having a heckuva time getting the sides to match. Maybe because I can't get those vanishing points out far enough? Or maybe I should be using the 3-point perspective grid to try and model the rectangle with that? I had more trouble with that, though. Not strong with illlustration / perspective, but determined to create a grid that matches! ... Can anyone do this?

Yep. I quit futzing with the perspective grids and just created my own custom isometric grid and was able to accomplish what i set out to. Thanks.
