Photo Book: Blur images in A3 and in a PDF

Hi everyone,
I'm making a photobook in A3, and I have a problem in it.
My pictures are in high-resolution. When I import them in my photobook, they become very blur, and it's the same things when I export my book as PDF in order to have a preview.
I don't know how to resolv this problem, if it's a bug from A3 or something else, but I'm affraid to order the book and to have a bad suprise when I will receive it.

Something strange: when I make a photobook in size XL, photos are perfect when I export as PDF.
But I want to do it in size L, and when I export my book as PDF in size L, photos are really bad quality...
I don't understand.
Do we have to resize photos before insert them in the photobook? But there are différent size in a book, depending where we want to put photos (small square, full page...)

Blurred image of hit and run truck

Hi everybody,
This isn’t your regular community topic discussion but I’m hoping someone out there can help me with a blurred image. The picture is of the truck that scraped up the back of my Honda and then ran off—a hit and run. Fortunately no one was hurt and I was able to get a picture of the person after a bit of a chase, but upon looking at the picture it’s so blurred I can’t get a clear license plate or even the first few letters/numbers to report the hit and run.
ANY and ALL help is so appreciated. I’m more upset that the person didn’t have the decency to stop after knowing she/he had hit my car. It’s quite disheartening that some people have no respect for other’s property.

You might try FocusMagic (www.focusmagic.com). The picture is probably too much for it to handle and it apears to be rather small to pull out the license number, but I believe you can run it in demonstration mode, without purchase, to see if it makes enough of an improvement. It has been awhile since I purchased it and don't remember about "demo mode".
It does reduce motion blur and you can adjust the direction of movement adjustment as well as the amount. There is a preview window. Be sure to work on a copy of the original file.

Photo Book - issue with generating full size picture in PDF file

Need some assistance here.
I have created a photo book that I would like to order. In the middle of the book I have 2 pages that contain a full size picture on each of the pages. When I generate the PDF file one of these two pictures do not generate correctly leaving an incorrectly rendered rectangle in the bottom left hand corner. 80% of the time it is on of the 2 large 8x10 pictures, the other 20% it is the other 8x10 picture. Aperture does indicate the dpi is large enough to support a quality 8x10 photo.
I have exported jpeg files for each of these pictures and there were no problems. I am not sure by I have this problem in creating the PDF. Does any one see a potential issue with the book? When I order the photo book is it done through he PDF file or are the pictures sent in?
Because of the issue I am cautious to order the Photo Book, but would like to do so.
Any thought or feedback? Is this something that will come through as problem with the photo book as well?

I have a similar problem running 10.5.2/ Aperture 2.0 trial.
My 15800*4700 pixel (19.8mb) panorama was completely screwed up when printing the book to PDF. I did not span the pict over 2 pages as the center part would not be visible in the book's fold. I created 2 full size pages, resized the frames and adjusted their position.
The print just shows hundreds of small squares, some seem ok, some are blue, some are rendered partially. Totally unusable.
The physical memory was not the problem as I had at least 500mb free during the printing operation.
I printed the book twice: same problem. I thought shutting down Aperture would resolve the error. but all my pics were gone. And the Time Machine did not backup while Aperture was running (still a bug). Aaaaaarghhhh.
I managed to restore my work. I will try to create a smaller copy of the panorama and try to print.
BTW, what is the size of your photo creating the problems?

Also my Iphoto 11, despite stating it is the latest version, does not look like the versions shown on the Apple website (Very basic grey sidebar).

Insert an image in header and export to PDF/Excel WAD

Hi experts!
I'm trying to create a Web template for one of my queries with the WAD.
I've added a table at the top, containing a logo and One custom text. Below that table, I've added a CONTAINER_LAYOUT_ITEM, and in this element, I've added different item, like BUTTON_GROUP_ITEM, INFO_FIELD_ITEM, NAVIGATION_PANE_ITEM and ANALISYS_ITEM, related with one query.
One of the buttons I've created one with the action EXPORT but in the Data Binding secction, only the items (BUTTON_GROUP_ITEM, INFO_FIELD_ITEM, NAVIGATION_PANE_ITEM and ANALISYS_ITEM) are shown. So I can't select the table I've created for the export.
I've tried to put the table in one CONTAINER_ITEM, and the select it in the export command, but it doesn't work.
Does anybody any idea about how to inlcude the logo and the Title in the PDF or Excel export??

I'm confused, you are returning a GIF, not a PDF in the code below, but you are telling the client you are returning a JPEG.

? about image resolution/color correction when apple prints photo book

My first time making a photo book. I color correct and sharpen all of my images in Adobe Lightroom 2 first. Then I save the jpegs and import into iPhoto to make a book. Is there an option for turning off auto color correction when the file is uploaded to apple for printing? Is there an accurate way to tell how the photos will print on the specific paper they use? Also, what print resolution should the photos be set to? Is 180 dpi enough? Thanks in advance.

Second - I suspect you will be disappointed. Based on reports on these forums almost everyone who uses iPhoto exclusively to preprocess photos is extremely happy with the results. very often people you over process their photos using a third party program (including Lightroom, Photoshop, etc) are unhappy because the printing process is optimized for point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing - it is NOT a professional desktop book process
There are no options re color correction - it is built in again aimed at sRGB, point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing
Plus there have been reported incompatibilities between iPhoto and Lightroom
The print resolution is what it is - if it will be less than 180 dpi you will get a waarning - it can be greater

Photo booth images too dark and grainy

When I use Skype or want to take a photo using Photo Booth, the image is dark and grainy. It has slowly gotten worse and worse. Never had a problem with it before. Any suggestions?

Ordering a photo book in Elements11

How do you order a photo book that has been created and saved? Only prints are offered as a selection. Do I have to export the images to iPhoto to get this done or is it still possible to order it with Shutterfly via Elements. Frustrating!

I have been trying to upload a pse 11 photobook to shutterfly. It goes to shutterfly website I sign in. A page comes up with name and #of recipients. I hit start - it starts to upload files..gets to 99% after a very long period of time then goes back to the album name and recipient page. please help

Creating photo book on iPad

Hello,
I am getting the impression that I can't use my new iPad for creating photo books from my snapfish/shutterfly accounts? One of the big reasons I got an iPad was to continue my hobby of making photo books online, having the photo books be created by snapfish, and then paying for them to be created and sent to me.
Do u know of any other way around this? I feel like an idiot for not investing this before purchasing an iPad, and hope that I don't need to buy a lap top/desk top.

Hi Molly,
Adobe makes several iPad apps for working with photos but none currently for creating the type of photobooks which are commercially printed and mailed to you. Adobe Lightroom 4 which was just released has features for creating photo books of this type, but that runs on a computer not on an iPad obviously. Adobe makes a program called Adobe Revel, which allows you to upload your photos to a cloud service to be able to view all your photos on all your devices (iPad, iPhone, Mac, and eventually on Windows computers). Adobe Revel, like Lightroom, allows you to apply non-destructive global edits and effects to your images and supports sending out to Email, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. I'm not aware of any apps that allow you to do what you are seeking, you might check with Snapfish and Shutterfly to see if they have recommendations.

Why can't I change an iPhoto '11 (9.4.2) photo book layout without the page going blank?

When working on a photo book, I can initially drag and drop photos into the predetermined photobook layout designs without any problems. But when I want to change one of the pages from the iPhoto predetermined layout (e.g. from a 2 photo layout to a 4 photo layout) the page will go blank (by that I mean it will only have the background design) and will no longer allow me to add photos to the page, or choose a text only layout, or any layout other than a blank background design. I can delete the page which won't let me add photos anymore, and then add a new page which will, but the page layout is again a predetermined layout, which I want to change (e.g. a 2 photo layout, when I want a 4 photo layout).
As stated in the question, I'm running iPhoto '11 version 9.4.2, updated via the App Store in November 2012. I'm running the program on a 2011 iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, with OSX (10.8.2).
Please help.

Sound like you're trying to drag a photo to a folder which will automatically create a new album in that folder titled "Untitled". Make sure it's an album and not a folder you're trying to drag to.

How do I add pages to a photo book with the same number of photos per page.

I want to add a photo book, select all the pages and tell the book to be 4 photos per page. And when I add new pages, I want those to have 4 photos.
When ever I add, it just selects a random page and then I have to manually change that page to have 4 photos. Is there an easier way to do this?

the added pages are what they are and you have to change them if hey are not what you want
Click on the layout button and and select the 4 photo per page layout you want

[BUG] Upgrade corrupts photo book layouts!

Here's something to add to the plethora of bugs in iLife'11. Whenever I open a photo book that was created with an earlier version, I briefly see the "Upgrading photo book…" message, and after that, all photos are default-zoom and centered at their spots in the book layout!
I have >20 books in my library and a lot of effort went into making their layout just perfect. The problem does not yet appear in iPhoto 8.1.2, I have been experimenting with several "upgrade paths" from iPhoto 7.1.5 to iPhoto 9.0.1 now. It is clearly a problem in iPhoto 9.
When going directly from iPhoto 7 to 9, by the way, you lose all the key photo selections that you have done in your events (>200 for me…), as already reported here:

So if any of you are also keeping their photos in nicely layouted photo books, I strongly recommend waiting with the upgrade to iLife'11 until Apple fixes the upgrade process to NOT destroy any data.

iPhoto '11 does in fact display a warning after the update, something like "update successful, but please check before ordering". Well, I checked, and I found all books are corrupted (zoom and offset are wrong as described above).
This dialog however is a pathetic way of dealing with the (apparently known!) problem, Apple!
Even worse, I noticed that TimeMachine backup (inside iPhoto) does not list photo books, so the only way back (after wiping iPhoto 11 from the hard drive and re-installing the previous version) seems to be to replace the whole iPhoto Library manually (I sincerely hope that the photo books are stored in there and not anywhere else - does anyone know for sure?)
There also is no way to export a photo book (apart from non-editable PDF) and to re-import it on another MacOS installation (with an earlier version of iPhoto), is there? So until I find a solution and the time to try it out, I need to keep my pre-update backup of the whole iPhoto Library. And I must not make any significant changes to the new library, because there very probably is no way of merging those changes into the old one.

It's very simple. Make a pdf preview of the book. Anything in that will be printed.

HT4990 Why is there no option to create cards in the iPhoto app? It seems odd that they have options for photo book but no cards??

I just purchased the iPhoto app for the ipad. I was very disappointed that there is no place to create cards/post cards from the iPad itself. It really seems odd since they have options to make photo books but nothing for cards and prints?
Is there any other thing I can use to get this feature from the ipad itself?

TS3750 100 page limit on photo books

How do we plead and beg Apple to get with the times and be more competitive with other photo book companies. The 100 page (50 sheet) limit is so 5 years ago!!! For those of us who create large albums like an annual family yearbook, this is not enough! Many other companies allow you to create photo books now up to 1,000 pages! The templates in iPhoto have not been updated since I can remember and are simply not keeping up with the digital creativity other companies. This is frustrating. I hope they listen to our cries for help. Most of us buy and commit to being an Apple user because we love the convenience of keeping everything in one place on our Apple/Mac devises. Having to use other photo book companies defeats this purpose and is a heartbreaking disappointment. Apple please listen!
