Photo Library Help

I have an album in my phone called "photo library", these pictures are old pictures from my phone and were synced from my old computer. They cannot be deleted. Since they were on my phone, since being synced with my new computer, it is a file only on my phone and in the backup file that I cannot get rid of because it was synced from my old computer. Any ideas how I can get rid of these pictures? 900 pictures (doubles) taking up memory. Thanks.

@AmishCake
That only works for Photos taken with the iPhone. Synced photos are not directly accessible.
@holib
To delete them from the phone, you can either Delete the entire Photo library from Settings->General->Usage->Photos & Camera.  Swipe to one side on Photo Library and then tap on the red Delete button that appears; or Sync an empty folder to your iPhone, or uncheck Photo Sync in Itunes on your computer.

  • How to ocr search photo library help

    Hey there
Anybody know how to index/ search my photo library via ocr so that I could search my photos for text, similar to evernote's feature but for large photo library (>15GB) mainly its just for screen shots ( so it should be easier for the text to be recognised) , I want to be able to search the photo library for specific photos.
Even better if spotlight could search the photo library, or just any other program.
    Thanks
    All ideas WELCOME

    Hi imylove,
The photos that show up in your photo library (with the exception of the Camera Roll and the Photo Stream) are sync'd to your phone from your iPhoto library when you sync to iTunes.
If you don't want those photos on your phone, hook it up to your PC, make sure that the phone is not set up to automatically sync in iTunes, and then go to the Photo tab for your phone in iTunes, and uncheck Sync Photos. Then do your sync, and all of the photos will be deleted from your phone.
    Hope this helps,

  • Apple TV 2 doesn't refresh the Photo Library help!

    Hey,
I have everything updated, iTunes, iPhoto, AppleTV 2, iOS, MacOS and whatever else needs to be updated, it's all updated.
Yet, when I pick a library and I've deleted the rest keeping only ONE... For some reason, there are phantom photos cropping up that are NOT in the iPhoto Library..
How can I clear the buffer or whatever holds the photos on this device, it's starting to become a problem, I can't show any projects when it shows everything else from other projects mixed up...
Also does anyone offer an alternative to the Apple Remote on the iPhone? I really don't like it it's such a pain to use, it's not very responsive and it's very difficult to hit accurately when you scroll up or down.
Thanks in advance... it's such a pain...

I think you are onto something though...
From what I understand, you have a few options. The way I made mine work, is simply disconnect it from the power for a day. But before I did that I did this:
    • Deleted the photo album I had on it, replaced it with a generic one.
    • Cleared the device as in reset it
    • Then let the generic one run for about a week or so, long enough time to fill the memory with the new contents.
    • Then make a new copy of the AppleTV gallery I have in my iPhoto Library. Renamed it NEW AppleTV Gallery
    • Let it run with that, then rename it in iPhoto after a few days to AppleTV Gallery...
    • Choose that in AppleTV setup.
And that did the trick for me. I somehow think that of all the steps I did, you probably only need 3 of them, but I don't know which so I'm sharing with you all of them.
Just remember, to make sure you order the listing of your images as you want correctly in iPhoto so it won't make a mess when you want to stream it on the TV.
Sad part is, that like so many of Apple's devices, AppleTV and AppleTV 2, could and should be able to do so much more. Like support of MKV (It can if you force it so I hear). But mostly I wish they slapped a cheap 2GB storage or so onto it, so that the images you CHOOSE to hold on it, will be internally played not externally. Sad thing is that this little device is only a weak 25% of its full capacity, it could be so much more amazing.
But that is how Apple rolls the dice... and we just roll with the punches...

  • Photo resolution with iCloud photo-library bèta.

You guys probably know about the new iCloud photo-library beta version.
    This is what Apple says:
" iCloud Photo Library helps you make the most of the space available on your iOS device by automatically storing the original high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and leaving behind the lightweight versions that are perfectly sized for each device."
Does this mean that the quality of my photo's is less good then

Yes it will when storage on the phone will become tight.

  • My iPhoto won't open. It says "Your photo library is either in use by another application or no longer readable." Please tell me I haven't lost all my pics?! I do not have them backed up. I have tried restarting my mac. Please Help!

My iPhoto won't open. It says "Your photo library is either in use by another application or no longer readable." Please tell me I haven't lost all my pics?! I do not have them backed up. I have tried restarting my mac. Please Help!

What haven't you backed them up? You should always have a back up of any important material on your Mac. Make one now:
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
What version of iPhoto do you have?

  • Can you help me delete photo library & duplicate photo library

    Hi,
I don't know what I did, but I somehow copied 44 of my daughter's music images into my photo library and then created a duplicate with 43 images.  These 87 images are taking up room and there is no obvious way to delete them.
Here's what happens when I touch camera roll it brings me to the photo library -- where 43 out of 44 images are hers:
I click edit and the only options are share via email, faceboook, twitter, etc. or add to which leads to create a new album.  I don't want to do any of this.  I just want to delete them to make room.
The same options apply for the Duplicate album as well.
Can you help me delete the photo library and the duplicate library on my phone?  I only want to keep one video in the camera roll and all of the rest of the images can go.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your response.  I think you just isolated my issue -- I was trying to upload music and somehow wound up syncing my daughter's photos to my iphone.  I don't know how to delete them because not all of the album/folders are appearing there.  Do you have any suggestions on how to find them?

  • Help!  Photos Library copied to external hard drive, but after preparing the library I can NOT see any pictures.

I am having a tough time and searched, but have not found an answer that works.  Last night I copied my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive because when I initially attempted to set up Photos, I got an error that said I needed 88 GB of space for the transfer.  I got the iPhoto Library onto the hard drive and reopened the app and it prepared the library.  It was talking forever, so I went to bed.  This morning, I have this screen...
There are NO pictures in the actual app.  I went to the external hard drive and see that the Photos Library exists...
I have tried to hold command and option and restart Photos and I did get a prompt that it was repairing; however, this was unsuccessful.  Please help!  I know the photos are there because when I show package contents, I see them all in my Masters/Old Masters folders.
    Thank you!

Agree with baltwo, though even if you have saved the install app I wouldn't use it unless its been used to install a known good copy of the OS already.
In your case, that probably means start fresh:
Restart the computer, holding down 'command' and 'r'. When the recovery disk window shows, choose 'Reinstall Mac OS X'.

  • I downloaded the new iphoto to my macbook pro. Now when I open it, there is a message telling me that "your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup." What do I do I had 16,000 pictures.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Deleting Photo Library from iPhone 4 - Help!

Help!  I can't figure out how to delete the Photo Library from my iPhone 4.  Here is what I did:
I was using my sister's Mac and downloaded some photos she took from her iPhoto onto my iPhone 4.  Now I can see the photos on my phone in a new folder called "Photo Library."  But there isn't an option to delete the photos like there is with the Camera Roll folder.
When I hook the phone up to my own Mac, the photos don't appear in iPhoto so I can't delete them there.
When I hook the phone up to my PC, the PC doesn't seem to think the photos are there either.
When I open the phone with iTunes, the Photo Library folder doesn't appear in the folder options so I can't "unsync" the folder.
Yet they sure are taking up a lot of space on my phone!!!  I feel like they are permanently stuck on my phone now. My sister lives far away so I can't just plug my phone into her computer again.
Will restoring the phone finally get rid of the Photo Library?  I can do this as a last resort but only if I know it will fix the problem.  Thank you!

    Use iTunes.
Under the Photos tab, choose Sync Photos from and then from the dropdown select choose folder...
Create a new empty folder by selecting New folder and click Open
    Then Apply and Sync.
That should do it. At least it did for me

  • 'Which Photo Library Do you want to use' loop - HELP

I have a New (2013) MacBook Air with Version 10.9 OSX
Yesterday it crashed when i plugged in my iPhone - as usual it opened up iPhoto and attempted to sync.
Now everytime i plug in my iphone iphoto opens up a box saying
'Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use'
I only have one proto library.
    It has two options
    'Other Library'
    'Create New'
Selecting other library and attempting to select the only iphoto library i have - it doesn't allow me to open it (it is like the 'open' button is disabled)
Obviously i don't want to create new.
If i double click 'iPhoto Library' through finder it comes up with the same box.
I have gone back and attempted to replace the iPhoto Library with a backup from a couple of days ago which worked - ie the file copied across fine - BUT still get the same issue.
It is telling me that the iPhoto Library file size is 10.7 GB so it is obviously there.
I don't know what to do next :-(

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. • Will Photo Library Manager help without library file

I recently upgraded to Leopard and added ilife to upgrade my iphoto from a reeaaally old version. I imported photos from the old version and Iphoto was working fine a couple weeks ago. Today, however, when I tried to open it, I got the Choose Your Library message. There is no library listed, nor can I find one. I have not done anything to iphoto or the library file since it was last opened and working fine. Will Photo Library Manager help if there is no library file? Is the albumdata.xml file in the iphoto database or is it somewhere else in my computer? Surely the files are there somewhere! What else can I do? I have a back-up but it has run since I last opened iphoto and I can't find a library file in there either. What is the library file called? Maybe I'm not looking for the write thing...
Thanks for your help. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Did you use Spotlight to try to find your library. If the library was inadvertantly moved to certain areas of the HD Spotlight will not find it. Download and run Find File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". If you get a hit it's a good chance it's the library. Good Luck.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Can't delete "Photo Library" from iPhone.  Please help

    Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to delete the "photo library" off my iPhone (as well as all the sub folders it has created). I do not want to have all the images from iPhoto to be on my iPhone as well. When I plug-in my phone, I go to the photo tab in iTunes...un-click the "sync from iPhoto" option at the top...it then asks me if I'd like to remove all the images added via iPhoto to which I answer "remove" but then nothing happens. I've tried re-syncing it, re-starting it (phone, computer and itunes) but nothing happens. The phone is a 3G.
Thank you very much for your help.

OK I was able to figure it out. First, I had to check the "Sync Photos from iPhoto" box in the photos tab. Second; I had to check, "Selected albums, events and faces and automatically included" Third; I to select "NO EVENTS" from the drop down menu. By selecting *no events* I was able to remove all the photos I did not take with my iPhone.
Hope this helps someone else too.
