Photo Page picture sizes

Is there a way to control the sizes of pictures displayed when one clicks on individual thumbnails in photo pages in iWeb. They display at 600 pixel size along the longer side. If one then drags and drops them onto the desktop and subsequently opens the resulting file in Photoshop the downloaded picture is a full 800 pixels along its longer side. This is more than I prefer and makes for a long upload time for websites with hundreds of pictures. A 400 - 500 pixel size would suit me better. Is anyone aware of some method to change this default picture size? Maybe some plist hack?
PowerBook 15" 1,67GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for your reply. By dragging and dropping I was referring to the end viewers of the website being able to drag the pictures to their desktops in a fairly high resolution. Sorry for not being clear about this. The thing is I don't want the end viewers to be able to have images of more than approx. 400-500 pixels. All my images start off in Aperture and wind up in iWeb via the Aperture2iLife software from lightboxsoftware.com. To simplify the workflow I'm trying to keep other apps out of the loop, hence no iPhoto.
I think my solution may have to be to Publish to a folder from within iWeb, find the appropriate images in their folders and batch run them through an Action in Photoshop to resize them to a smaller size before uploading the website. The downside of this of course is the added step in the workflow including another application in the loop but I guess the upside is I can use the opportunity to stick a watermarking routine in the batched Action.

  • Viewing Photo as "Picture Size"

Does anyone know what happened to the option "Picture Size" under the "View" menu in Photoshop CS6?  It was great for viewing as picture size before sharpenning.  I know the option 100% is there, but it is often larger than the actual photo size.
Also, How did I get in this section called Photoshop for Beginners.  I've been using photoshop for 10 years?

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, that is exactly what I was talking about.  I found out yesterday that the latest update to CS6 took out "Print Size".  It's unfortunate.

  • Photo stream picture size

I am sure this must have been covered before, but I am obviously not using the correct search terms to locate the answer.
I have photo stream active for Aperture and not iPhoto. If I want to just use the photo stream in Aperture am I correct that on a Mac my photos will be automatically downloaded in full resolution? While if I am on my iPhone or iPad my photo stream photos will only be in a resolution that minimize storage space.
Hence, if I have both my Mac and iPhone / iPad in front of me I should use Aperture rather than the mobile device for editing and uploading? That is, if I want a better edit, keeping in mind it is only my iPhone, I should edit on the Mac?
Am I understanding photo stream and Aperture correctly?

    Where do the photos originate?
Do you take (some of) them with your iPhone?
Do you take (some of) them with your iPad?
Do you take (some of) them with a camera and upload them to your iPhone, your iPad, and/or your Mac?
    The path makes a difference.
Here's my understanding of the matter:
Pictures that come to an iPhone or iPad via Photo Stream come in at "a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space," but pictures taken on an iPhone or iPad will be stored at the full resolution of that device's camera and uploaded to Photo Stream at the same resolution.
Pictures that are uploaded from a standalone camera or memory card to your Mac should come in at whatever resolution the interface supports (usually full carema resolution) and be uploaded to Photo Stream at the same resolution. Pictures downloaded from Photo Stream to your Mac should come in at full resolution as stored on Photo Stream.
I am unable to make a blanket statement about the resolution of uploads from a standalone camera or memory card to an iPhone or iPad. It may depend on the connection method.
If somebody else here has insight into that last point or sees a mistake in the previous two points, please jump in.

  • In putting together a book I can move photos onto a page and enlarge the picture but is there a way to reduce the picture size? some cases I want a smaller picture and if I change the size of the picture box I only get a portion of the image. I wnt to red

picture size...in putting together a book I can move photos onto a page and enlarge the picture but is there a way to reduce the picture size? some cases I want a smaller picture and if I change the size of the picture box I only get a portion of the image. I want to reduce the image to fit the size of the box.

    If you right click on the image on the page in the context menu select photo box alignment and then select one of scale to fit {centered, Left-aligned, Right-aligned}
That should do what you are loking for.

  • How can I make a picture fit entirely in the photo box in a book.  The picture size is small, but the it only shows part of the picture, and the zoom is all the way down.

I am trying to make a Photo Book using IPhoto for my granddaughter's wedding.  I am using 6 pictures per page, as I have many pictures to add to book.
The picture size is small.  But when I zoom is all the way down to the end to make smaller.  Doesn't go far enough.  When I try to put a picture in the square spot, it cuts off part of the picture.  Has anyone else had this problem, and could help me out.  I really would like to put on each page even more pictures, but that is not an option with IPhoto.  I have used other sites to make books.  This is my first try with IPhoto.   I may have to revert to the old familiar ones.  Wanted to give this one a try.  My granddaughter leaves for Germany on the 21st to join her marine husband.  I am quickly running out of time.  (The wedding was this past Saturday)

Place it the book, right click on it and fit to frame

  • Changing image size on a photo page

Is there any way to increase the size (in detail or slideshow view) of images on an iWeb "photos" page?
I've made several "photos" pages in iWeb by dragging images from aperture or iPhoto into iWeb, but the pictures always end up almost uselessly small/low-resolution on the resulting web page (even after clicking on a thumbnail or opening the slideshow). I mean: a 10 megapixel image ends up filling about 1/4 of a typical web browser screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    -Mike

For Album and photo pages the default large viewing size is 800 x 600 pixels. On some computers they are displayed smaller. There are a number of topics on this subject and there may be a connection to the graphic card being used. Not sure though. The workaround for this is to use a different type of presentation which will let you set the display size of the image.
One such presentation is via Jalbum which has over 100 skins/themes to choose from. This demo page has a couple of examples: Jalbum Examples.

  • Photo Page with widened page size

I recently enlarged the size of my web pages using the inspector so that the layout is more landscape (like a monitor) than portrait. When editing a photo page to fit the wider area (1240 pixels wide) it lays out fine in iWeb, however when I publish it to the web all the pictures only stay within the 700 pixels area and then things overlap and get screwy from there. Also note that I am NOT using a dot mac account. Here is an example of the problem:

Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

No, I tried reloading the page, that wasn't it. Can you send me the link to your page where you did it. Did you see my page? Again it looks perfect in iWeb and once you click on a pic and get into the viewer it is full screen.

When you email from iPhoto, you have a choice as to the size of the picture - choose medium and your friends will be able to see them.  By the way, do your friends click on the photo attachment  in the mail to open it?

  • Sharing a photo from Finder to Facebook reduces picture size

Yesterday I installed 10.8.2 upgrade and I tried sharing from finder to facebook. Picture size in finder is 720px × 437px and after sharing 346px × 210px in Facebook. How can I keep original size of the photo after share?

iPhoto for iOS always optimizes the shared photo for the site it's being shared to. The only way to edit a photo and export it that I know of is to share it to iTunes. Unfortunately that means to get the photo you have to sync with your computer, export it from the file sharing section of iTunes then share it to the site you want to put it on.
To get around this limitation I use an alternate app. My favorite is Photoforge2. It will work with any photo you have in the Photos app and export at the file size you want. You can leave the file at its original size or make it smaller. Your original file will remain untouched and the edited file can be shared back to the Camera Rool in the Photos app if desired. You can also share to a variety of sites like Photobucket or email the photo.

  • Picture Alignment on Photo Pages

I thought I'd try out a Photo page, rather than having to do a lot of alignment myself...only trouble is all the pictures seem to come out bottom aligned, and as they are not all the same height this doesn't look as attractive as I'd like!!!...and i'm *ed if I can see a way of centre aligning them, or top aligning, as each picture doesn't seem to be selectable in order to move it...and if you look at positions in the Inspector, the position seems only to be that of the top of the group of pictures...so you move all or none. Does anyone mnow a way round this, or do I have to do all my alignment by hand!!!

    Ivor,
I think you have run into a limitation of the template. The only workaround that I can see is to make sure that all 2 or 3 photos in a particular row are all oriented the same way (portrait or landscape). That way they group together and do not look so discontinuous.

  • I photo takes pictures of random web pages, about 55,000.

i photo takes pictures of random web pages, about 55,000.  how can i stop this?

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Reduce pages file size while maintain picture resolution

How do you have a small pages file size - <10mb - and still have a high resolution of my pictures in the doc

The two are rather mutually exclusive.
    Quality, Number , Size - pick 2.
You have not told us how many images, how large in dimensions and whether you are going to commercial print or convert it to pdf and email/post it.
So it is hard to know the target.
You can trim away the unmasked portions of the images in Preview and bring them back into Pages.
You can ensure there is exactly the resolution you need in final size in the document, 150dpi for HG pdf for screen, or 300 dpi for print. Preview can adjust resolution.
If this is meant for screen and not print you can resave the images as jpegs as lower quality in Preview. Be aware that this is a compromise, smaller size is lower quality and ultimately noticeable. The process is lossy.
Vector (drawn) objects remain sharp and are very small compared to bitmap images, so use pdf or font graphics where possible.

  • My photo page shows without the pictures

I just updated to iWeb 09. I've been using iWeb for several years without any glitches.
I publish my site to a folder and upload to my own domain.
In iWeb 09 I created my new picture page, as usual. Published the site to a folder, uploaded only the new page to my site. I checked it at the time and I could access it from online.
Now, the next morning, everyone tells me it's a blank page. Indeed when I check online, I can only see the theme textures, the title and text in the page but no pictures.
    Why is that ?
Why would it have worked yesterday and not today ?
That's a first and doesn't seem logic AT ALL!!!
But more importantly why isn't it showing up at all today?

There are other files other than the new photo page and it's media folder that need to be uploaded. The Scripts folder will need to be uploaded also. Go to the photo page online and use the Window->Activity menu to bring up the Activity window. There it will tell you what files are missing. What is the URL of your site so we can view the problem first hand.

  • I am ready to order my iphoto picture book, but I want to change the binding from wirebound to hardcover.  Does anyone know how I can do that without losing my already assembled photo pages?

I am ready to order my iphoto picture book, but I want to change the binding from wirebound to hardcover.  Does anyone know how I can do that without losing my already-assembled photo pages?

Yes - select the book and duplicate it (Command - D) in case of problems - open it and click change theme and select the theme and the new style of binding
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
then order after you have carefully checked the preview
