Photos - camera connector

I am considering buying an iPad to take on a trip instead of my laptop.
I want to back up pictures from camera, via the camera connector.
My questions are:
1. Does it leave the pictures as they are, or it "optimizes" them? This is what the iPhone or iPod Touch do with the pictures imported from the computer (they reduce them to 100K or so regardless of the original size)
2. How fast is the transfer?
Thanks in advance.

if the photos are "untouched"
can I assume it will import/transfer the Nikon NEF into the iPad which I can sync back to Aperture on my desktop, thanks?

  • Photo orientation importing via Camera Connector

    Hi all.
I've got my first iPod (iPod video, 30 gB, black): it's great.
I also got the camera connector, and I have tried to import photo from my camera. It works fine, but the portrait photos appear in landscape: is it possible to automatically change the orientation?
    Thanks,
    Roberto

  • IPod unmounts when downloading photos imported via iPod camera connector

I've got a fifth generation (video) iPod. I recently purchased an iPod camera connector and used it on a recent trip. I took over 500.jpgs and transfered them successfully from my Nikon D200 camera to my iPod. Now I'm trying to download them into iPhoto. Upon connecting my iPod to my iMac iPhoto automatically asked if I wanted to download the 500+ photos and I said yes. It began the download and then stopped part way through "roll" #2 of the six rolls on the iPod. For some reason the iPod unmounted itself and the iPod icon dissapeared from my desktop. So I disconnected it and started over. This time the iPod unmounted literally seconds after appearing on the desktop.
When I go into the iPod it appears as if all of my photos are there. My problem is that I'm not able to get them onto my iMac.
One thought I had was to enable my iPod for use as a hard drive in order to simply drag and drop the photos but I'm somewhat affraid to do this. I don't want it to wipe out all of my photos. Also, I'm guessing it will just unmount itself again anyway.
    Any thoughts for me?
    Thanks,
    Ben

I have a Nikon D5100 and I typically shoot Raw + JPEG and I take pics in large size on my Nikon.  When I transfer using the SD card and camera connection kit, my pics are regular size.  I'm wondering if the fact they are RAW only is causing your issue.  Try traking some pics in full size using either RAW + JPEG or just JPEG and then transfer and see if the resolution is larger.

  • Viewing photos imported with camera connector

    Hello,
I just purchased a camera connector and was immediatedly able to import photos from my camera with no problems. However, the manual states that I should be able to view the photos by (1) Choosing Photos > Photo Import, and then choose the roll I want to view and (2) Choosing Browse to display my photos.
The problem I'm having is that after I choose my roll it only shows the roll info (11 photos, size 17.3 MB) and options for Delete Roll or Cancel. There is no Browse.
I'm using a 60 GB Video iPod with version 1.2 firmware.
Any help would be appreciated. I've already searched the discussions and didn't see anyone with this exact issue.
    Thanks.

False alarm I guess. I didn't change any settings on the camera or iPod, but now I can browse through the imported pictures. Curious.

  • Photo Transfer Problem From Minox Dcc M3 to Ipod via Camera Connector

    Hi,
I have a minox Dcc M3 digital camera, and i recently purchased a 5th generation ipod with the intention of downloading images from my minox camera direct to the ipod, so that i could delete the images from my camera and carry on taking more pictures without having to carry my laptop around with me, The camera only has a 32mb built in flash memory and will not download direct to the ipod via an ipod camera connector,I have tried other cameras that only have built in flash memory and none of them will download direct to the ipod, Has anyone out there come across this problem before, according to apple the ipod supports the following image transfer protocols:- PTP
Type 4 (or Normal)and Mass Storage.Could anyone tell me if there is any firmware update for the ipod or camera that would make the ipod compatible with the cameras flash memory and allow me to download my images to my ipod.

I don`t think there is an option to turn on or off any transfer protocols,on connecting the camera to windows xp it connects staight away and viewing/downloading photos is no problem,it works the same as my other camera no problem.I have followed apples procedure of connecting (ie:-turn on ipod/connect camera connector/turn on camera and connect usb cable) the camera then shuts off immediately,i can turn it on again but all i get from the ipod is the message "ready to connect".It seems to me that the ipod does not even know the camera is connected?,looks like maybe this camera is not compatible with ipod, but i cannot help but think that other camera makes with built in memory would suffer from the problem.

  • Ipod lost my photos after they were uploaded from camera connector

Hi, i hope someone out there can help. I have used the camera connector with my camera (Olympus mju 700) and ipod (60 Gb Video) many times without any problems but the ipod has just lost the last roll i uploaded onto it. After the upload i went through the menus as usual to delete the card in my camera and then unplugged the camera. only to discover the photos were not on my ipod, in fact there was no photo import menu! This problem was aggrevated by the fact that i no longer have the photos on the camera card!!
I am hoping the photos are on the ipod somewhere and perhaps have lost their file names or whatever it is that tells the ipod that it has photos. Does anyone know of any nifty bits of software i could use to scour the ipod for these photos? Or anyone have any other ideas???
    Thanks, much appreciated,
    Ross.

I have a similar problem- but I see yours was never answered and you've probably moved on. My photo's where downloading fine like yours when suddenly it dropped a roll. Actually i had downloaded the iPod onto the computer - I put the roll in iPhoto. Which, and why this is really beyond my "imagination" it doesn't import movies. I forgot I had a couple clips on it and went to download them a couple days later. I can only do it with Kodaks software. But the whole roll was missing. And I know I didn't delete it. My guess is this is bug in a software update. But so few people actually use this feature it is undetected. Shoot. Any luck if you are still here????

  • Camera connector to load photos on iPad - will they display camera RAW file

If I use the camera connector to load photos to an iPad, will files in camera RAW format (Nikon .NEF) display?

When you import an image, may it be RAW or JPG it will create an optimized JPG version that it will display in the Photos app. When you sync to the computer it will copy the real RAW or JPG images over instead. This preserves EXIF data of the images as well. Some apps allow you to access the full sized RAW or JPG to upload or edit. One that I know works is FTP-on-the-Go, it will allow you to view and upload the full sized images to an FTP server and preserve the EXIF data there as well.

  • Importing photos to my ipad via the camera connector kit  How do I do this

I cannot import photos to my ipad via the camera connector kit The photo app does not say import anywhere  How do I do this

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • HT4101 Camera connector kit not working with ipad3. Not at all able to see any photo . Have tried both the USB connector directly with camera and thru card reader. Tried by copying photos to DCIM folder also.

Got a iPad camera connector kit. It is not working as expected. It is not able to read any photos. Both the USB connector and sd card reader arenot showing any photos on iPad. Tried copying all photos directly in DCIM folder. Still no result.
Any other setting needs to be changed?

    Hey, thanks for your updates.
The photos are 8 character long and extension is .jpg
The file names are 8 characters long with 3 as alphapet followed by an "_" and then 4 numbers.
Initially the photos were in a folder inside DCIM folder. I manually copied them to DCIM folder, still no result.
    Can you advice.

  • Camera Connector for Specific Photos

I am looking into buying a camera connector for my iPod photo. I just wanted to know a few things.
    1) Is it possible to connect it to a camera and choose specific photos to transfer or do you have to transfer all the photos in order?
    2) Once the photos are transfered, is it simple to transfer it onto the computer?
    3) Which connector is the best?
If anybody has any information about this Could you please reply and help me out?
    Thank You!

  • Can I view photos imported to iPod using Apple iPod Camera Connector

    Hi,
I have an iPod photo and iPod video.
I also have the Belkin Digital Camera Link that I use to downloand photos from my Digital Camera to my iPod whilst away from my computer.
When photos are imported onto the iPod using the Belkin device I can't view the photos on the iPod.
Is this the same case with the Apple Camera Connector?
It would be worth buying if it meant the photos were instantly viewable on the iPod.
    Many Thanks.

How did the photos get on the iPod? If they were synced from another computer you need a third-party program like PhoneView or TouchCopy.

  • I-Pad won't import photos using Camera Connector. Screen goes black. What t

I purchased a 16 gb I-Pad. I bought it on line from the Apple store. I also purchased a Case and a Camera Kit.
I have been unable to use the Camera kit. Every time I try the connection is broken between the I-Pad and the Camera Connector. I thought that maybe I had a bad Camera Connector so I had my friend try it on her I-pad. No problem! Worked great. She was able to select and import all photos and when the import was complete it told her. We used her Camera Connector on my I-pad just to double check but just as before when the import process begins the screen goes black and if I'm lucky maybe 1 pic will import. We used my camera card on both I-pads so I feel confident that it is not the camera card. How can I get this fixed? Is there something I need to do? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have removed the I-pad from the case to eliminate the possibility that the Camera Connector wasn't making good contact. Didn't think about the sleep & home button. The connector I use when plugging into my computer works well. No problems, the I-Pad is visible in I-tunes and I can sync and make changes without issue. Just the Camera Connector is unable to import. The connector sees the photos and I can select them but when importing it goes black. Thanks again.

  • HT4101 Format of photos uploaded using camera connector

I have loaded lots of RAW photos onto my ipad using the camera connector. Unfortunately they have got lost from the card. Please can some one tell me whether they will be in the same RAW format on the ipad + how tranfer to my PC in same format. Thanks

I'm wondering if this would work: use a modified USB cable which would connect the camera adapter to the camera, but would also provide power to the camera adapter side. What isn't clear to me is whether the camera adapter would pass the power through to the iPod (and thus charge it), whether it would just "ignore" the power so that there would be no difference between this and using a normal USB cable, or whether I would fry the camera adapter and/or the iPod.
I'm guessing that the camera adapter would not be expecting to be powered "by the camera", and so this would not be a viable solution. On the other hand, I don't seem to be able to reliably download an entire flash before my battery dies, which sort of kills the utility of this feature.
Anyone have any idea whether this might work, word work, or does work?
    Thanks.

  • Synched photos erased after using Camera Connector

I recently purchased a camera connector for my 60Gb iPod Video. I had already synched a bunch of photos through iTunes, and when I used my camera connector, all those synched photos were erased. It has done this several times now. Can I not have both synched photos via iTunes and upload photos through the Camera Connector? If I can, how can I keep my synched photos from being erased? Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to avoid the restore option as my iTunes doesn't have the music that is on my iPod (ie I update my ipod manually and delete the songs on iTunes after transferring the songs to iPod - frees up space on my computer).
Is there any way of making a back up of the songs on iPod or transferring them from iPod to iTunes?
