Photos run and smear
I have an HP 7210 multiprinter, HP99photo cartridge, and am using Premium high gloss photo paper. My copy of photos run and smear (even after 24 hours). What am I doing wrong ??
I'm having a bit of a hard time finding my way around here. This is the same problem I'm having. Did you ever get an answer?
I'm using a Photosmart D7260 with Vivera ink cartridges. The documents are fine and the photos were wonderful - at first. Now, they're all muddy and smeared right out of the printer and the ink remains wet.
I've tried to reset the printer options for dry time and amount of ink as I've seen suggested elsewhere, but nothing changes.

Nearly automatically.
This will be a major upgrade, and Aperture will have to upgrade your library.
As a precaution, make sure you have a working backup of your library, and I'd keep a copy of the Aperture 2.1.4 Application installer as well.
Also it is recommended to repair the permissions and to rebuild the library, to make sure that the library has no corruptions before you upgrade.
Rename the Aperture Library to a name different from the default name before you upgrade.
Launch the new Aperture version by double clicking your Aperture library. Aperture will prompt you, that it is necessary to upgrade the library; let it run, this may take a while. And yes, you should find all your photos, projects, folders, etc. after the upgrade just as you imported and organized them.

I want to upgrade to snow leopard from 10.5.8. Im hesitant to proceed because I'm running iPhoto 7 and word 2004. I want to be sure these programs will still run and I won't lose my photos or the events I have ordered them by. Should i make a partition on my new Iomega external and clone it just in case? I'm running time machine and backing up all the time onto an old LaCie, and right now I have a copy of my iPhoto library on new Iomega, which I recopy every couple of weeks. I got the computer new several years ago and it came with iLife and 10.4 OS I think.
Word 2004 is almost 10 years old, you will not be able to upgrade beyond Snow Leopard with it. IMHO you have gotten your money's worth out of the application and need to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011, this will work just fine and read your old files just fine too. What will not run beyond SL are all PowerPC (PPC) apps such as Word 2004. You will need to update, upgrade or replace any PPC based apps you want to use. I would recommend taking a little time and check for updates to each of your apps. Then open System Profiler (Applications - Utilities - System Profiler) click the Applications link on the left and then look for any PPC based apps, those are the ones that will not run. You can upgrade to SL just fine with the apps you currently have however if you want to go beyond SL (it's already 2 generations behind) you will need to update or upgrade your apps. One event in iPhoto version 9.6 has lost all the original photo information, and views the photos as very small.

I can't get my Windows 7 pc to recognise my old LG VN251 phone via USB. The verison software upgrade assistant runs and my phone is up to date. I do get a window that pops up that says I can either run the bootstrap or look at the files on the phone, but I cannot see any photos. Thoughts?

We are running yosemite OS X 10.10 and iOS 8.0.2... Is there any way to do this?

How to use iPhoto with 1 photo library and 2 user accounts on 1 iMac ?
Title says it all.
I don't want to have a double picture library, it takes enough space from my harddisk already.
My wife and I share the same camera too. We want to see the same pictures when using iPhoto.
Possible solution: Do I have to make a softlink from 1 user account to the photo lib that belongs to the other account ? [in Terminal: ln /Users/.... etc.)

Fred4711If you want to have the same data, do you need separate accounts? A surprising number of people think that must have separate ccounts and they really don't need to.
Anyway:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up. -

ThanksIf you're old phone that was repalced was a higher version of iOS, it wont be able to restore. Update your iPhone to the lastest iOS 7.0.4 and try to restore it then.

I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

Is this iPhoto on your Mac? Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11? If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.

Sharing Photo, Video and Music files
My new iMac has arrived and I'm looking forward to transferring across all my files at the weekend and to starting to use it.
We use the computer as a family computer although we have different accounts on the computer. I would like to enable all members of the family to have access to all photo, video and music files when they are signed into their individual accounts and using iLife.
My question is this: where should I place these files to enable common access. At the moment they are stored under my user name and therefore only I can access them. A slight refinement on this is that although I want to encourage the kids to use iLife and develop their skills in this area, I want to make sure that they don't delete/alter any of the original files so would ideally like them to save any changes they make in a new file under their accounts.

What you mean by 'share'.

Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)

If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.

I installed iWork11 but the '09 versions of the software are still running--and the default. What do I need to do to get the '11 versions working?
It's very simple. If you want to use iPhoto, just let it manage things as it does. Other than that: Export from iPhoto and delete the image from iPhoto. That will remove the master and all versions.
If space is an issue... use an external disk.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -

I just updated to the Snow Leopard and now my Photo Booth and Stickies say that I can't use their version with this update. I've gone searching in the App store and looked around on the Apple site and can't seem to find the updates for these 2 programs.Help!
Both Applications come with SL, there shouldbe no need to do anything. Something went wrong.
Run the 10.6.8 Combo Update. This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
EDIT: If you moved any applications out of your /Applications folder to another location, or put them in an enclosing folder within /Applications this can cause problems on updates.
