Photos too big in project!

I have some photos taken but when I try to import them and display them in the project window they are all "zoomed" in. I think this might be becuase of the file size. Is there a way I can reduce all the picture sizes at once in the project?
Version 4.2

Phil is correct, you can right-click the photo in Premiere and select "Scale to Fit" If you select all of the photos, you can do it in one fell swoop. However, I agree that you should resize the pictures before importing them in to Premiere.
If you have Microsoft Office installed on your machine, you should use Microsoft Picture Manager to resize your photos. It is a great way to rename multiple photos as well. It is intutitive and requires little training. It will handle large quantities of photos. Try it, I think you'll be surprised how easy it is to use. However, be careful not to overwrite your original file. I generally save my edited photos to another location or I'll create a folder specifically for edited photos.
Here's the path to find Picture Manager:
Start | Programs | Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
Good luck!

  • Photos too big for Flash, what can I do?

    Hi,
I have tried all the different Formats of Photo and bringing them into Flash, but they are still too big, causing Flash to crash and meaning I am unable to upload my website to my server. I think i remember being told you could use a preloader. But still being quite new at Flash don't know how to being.
Or is there another way anyone can think of?
    Please Help, client waiting!
    Cheers
    Tom

    Hi,
I think what you need to do is bring your image into Photoshop. Select > Image Size > Choose 72 PPI which is a good size for the internet. Now go to File> Save For Web. In there it will give you options on how to optimize your image for the web. Just save it as a Jpeg if you want and then import into Flash library.
    Hope this helps!

  • Photos too big for desktop

I could always just choose a photo to use as a desktop and it would work fine. Now they all seem to display at full resolution meaning that I only get a small segment of the picture. I have tried cropping to the display dimensions but it is still too big. What can I do? This is on my Macbook 2.16.

  • File size too big with project manager

    I’m working on a single video file with a size of 46,44 GB (Apple XDCAM HD422 1080i50 (50 MBit/s CBR), 1920 × 1080 (1888 × 1062), 16,7 Mill.).
Clips from this file are copied to three seperate sequences (One rough cut and two final cuts).
When I try to backup the project the resulting project size is nearly as large as the original project size (FCP7 trims it to approx. 2GB)
Premiere creates five mxf file with sizes between 1 and 18GB each.
How can I lower these sizes and use this feature like e.x in Final Cut Pro the Media Manager which stores only the needed cutouts and Footage for archiving purpose?
These are my settings. The addition or removal of handles does not make any difference.

I'm having the same issue with .mxf files directly imported from a Sony F5 camera. Wanting to do the same thing and the resulting "trimmed" project is 40gb for a 1 minute film. I checked the new trimmed project folder and it looks like Premiere Pro CC 2014 isn't trimming the clips to the length they are used in the sequence.
Not sure where to go from here.

  • Is 3500 across photo too big for a 1920x1080 show?

I am in a crunch.  Thank you.  I am getting out of memory and renders are very slow. Couple oz dozen photos, some are just 2000 x1800.  Seven minute show.  Green screen.

A woman had written to Larry Jordan to dispute this issue.  In the end he agrees (kind of).   My wife says if she scanned anything at 72dpi it would look awful.
This tiff (pun intended) will go on for a while, I suppose, but this from you is incorrect:
“One of the confusing concepts with using still images for video is understanding the DPI just doesn’t matter. It is the total pixels across by the total pixels down that is important.”
It’s more than semantics. Dots Per Inch is indeed part of the analog world of print, but you gloss by the crucial connection to video: DPI is what producers and editors must deal with in getting images into their systems. Without a DPI setting offered by your scanning software, and an effective way to leverage it for specific image formats, you simply can’t scan flat art effectively to support zooms which remain sharp at the close end, or, for that matter, images which are sharp at full frame. No scanner plugin that I know of offers “PPI” as a setting. Scanners deal with DPI, and so must we. That matters very much.
DPI is the analog equivalent to video PPI, pixels per inch, a close representation of the analog scan when related to a specific frame size and its pixel requirements. To say that DPI is irrelevant to video in this context is just plain inaccurate.
Although your pixel wisdom is of course correct, your approach doesn’t address the real world connection, and needs of producers with tons of analog photos and documents to scan. I developed the ScanGuide Pro system to employ the connection between DPI and PPI for myself, now  in use by hundreds of folks in post who are very satisfied with its results. So maybe it’s time to make the proper connection between the two terms rather than thowing the baby out with the bathwater?
    Larry replies:
Loren, you are correct. It is wrong to say that DPI doesn’t matter. However, my point, which I will clarify later in this issue, is that regardless of the DPI you set for the file, video looks at the total number of pixels in the image, rather than the DPI number, to determine image size and shape. As you know, further muddying the waters is that computers assume that pixels are square, while video treats them as a never-ending variety of rectangles.

  • Too Big Project Size?

How big is too big for projects? What are your average project sizes?
Having very sticky and sluggish movement in current project and noticed it was over 40MB. Didn't seem so huge at first but then I noticed most other projects I have are under and around 10. Is the project just too big? Nothing extraordinary or strange about the project. The sluggishness is primarily when scrubbing through primary cut/sequence. Only a 2 min sequence. If Premiere can't handle two minute sequence how are they cutting features with it?
Anyone else have this problem or notice anything like this with larger projects?

I was referring the preview file format.  Currently, we're editing with ProRes LT Quicktimes and setting the preview file format to reflect that (attached).  However, the MPEG I-Frame seems to be the default in Premiere.  Is that more stable?
However, is there a better format/codec for Premiere?  We always cut in ProRes on FCP 7, but I'm not opposed to something different (we run on Mac).
Also, I removed all warp stabilizers from my project and it significantly decreased project size.  Unfortunately, the project is still sluggish.  Feeling there is some type of corruption.
    Thanks Mark!

  • I need to downsize phots to publish on a website but they are too big . In help it says when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT. ?

I can't figure out how to downsize my photos for a website that won't take anything above 3MB my Photos are 4MB. Even when I send them in an email, they are too big to send more than 3 at a time and I don't know how to fix it! Help says that when I select a photo it gives me the option to downsize. It does NOT?????

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum. Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac select Export and you will have the option to select a size for your photo.
In iPhoto for iOS this capability is not there. I use PhotoForege2 on my iPad to resize my photos to meet the requirements you describe.

  • Photos Are Too Big

    Good morning.
I've just started exploring the possibility of making a photo album in iPhoto. When I place a photo on a full page, the photos are too big for the 'frame'- that is, the frame crops part of my photos off. I have tried using the resizing tool but find that the photos are already resized to their smallest.
Is there another way to deal with this problem?
    Thanks,
    BurntMonkey

    John:
iPhoto puts up that warning when the resolution of the image falls below 180 dpi. A lot would depend on how far it falls below. They will not appear as good as they do on screen but that goes for all of the photos. The monitor display usually has more contrast and snap than the printed version. But that's not to mean the printed version doesn't or won't look good.
You can approximate the dpi of the photo for the frame that's giving the warning. The pages are 8.5 x 11. Estimate the size of the frame and divide the frame's dimension into the pictures corresponding pixel dimension.
What are the pixel dimensions of a typical photo that's giving you the warning sign and what page layout/frame are the in?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Photos sent through email too big?

I have an iphone 3gs. Now my problem is that sometimes when i attach a photo to an email the photos turn out too big. I have a few wedding projects(1-2 hours)I am trying to export at full hd quality, than burn in idvd. After rendering for 8hrs I receive error code that states "file is too big". Please help? compressing tips without losing quality? or any other exporting alternatives?

    Hey Z,
Thank you for the tip on exporting by media browser (large) from imovie. But of course, if it's not one thing it's another. Now that I figured how to export a large file from imovie, I have an idvd issue. I followed the instructions for burning from idvd and changing the encoding to professional quality and the burn speed to x4, but I am receiving an error that states the following,
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window.
    Project:
    - total project duration: 79:04 minutes
    - total project capacity: 4.327 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
    Menus:
    - number of menus in project: 1 menus
    - total menu duration: 0:39 minutes
    - total menu capacity: 37.370 MB
    Movies:
    - total movies duration: 78:25 minutes
    - total movies capacity: 4.291 GB
I have searched in the idvd forum for similar issues and I am stumped at this point. I have tried deleting the encoding assets and re launching idvd with the changed preferences, and still the same error. I know you mentioned something about free hard drive space available, and I have very little left. 4GB to be exact due to massive hours of non-edited footage. I am not sure if this is why, but I do not recall ever needing free space to burn memory onto a separate dvd. I would be more than happy if I am wrong, and it would be a quick fix. Otherwise, the technical nightmare continues. It's all a learning process and your expertise is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks...)

When I try to export from iMovie '11 I get repeated messages that the project is too big. Why? Is there a workaround? (I have already cut a 40-minute movie into three chunks... the first exported to iDVD ok, but the next one of 15 minutes balked for the same reason -- too long...)

    I wish I had a mac :-P
Sadly, this is Windows machine so I dont have a non-iOS version of iMovie.  I have 2 ideas left.  The first is xfering the project to my iPhone 4 and trying to export it there (if that works, awesome but geez apple the iPad 2 is way more powerful than the iphone 4.. youd think I wouldnt even have to attempt this).  The 2nd idea is to start at the end of my movie and delete clips and sounds backwards, trying to export each time to find whatever clip is causing the issue (when the movie was 5 minutes it mixed no probem, so I only need to go that far).
    Wish me luck?
Also, is anyone else besides me and the 5 dudes in the other threads having this issue??  Speak up, guys - Apple cant a fix a problem they dont know about.

  • I uploaded a photo onto my desk top and it was too big when I tried to change it I couldn't get into iPhoto it just wouldn't open

I uploaded a photo to my desk top as my screen saver and it was too big, when I tried to get back into iPhoto I couldnt, it wouldn't open, I closed it and tried again and it still will not open, can you help me?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Why are some photos on camera roll but not in photo stream. Unable to backup as camera roll size is too big for free 5gb.

I assume you have Photostream on, correct?
In order for the photos to be moved into Photostream, you must exit the camera app, and be on a wifi connection.  Both of these criteria must be met before the sync occurs.
