Photoshop and Illustrator link has gone bad

hi.
I cannot get illustrator to open my smart objects from photoshop.
usually the process is double click the vector smart object, it opens in Illustrator.
Now I get an error message that says
'Could not edit original smart object because the application which created the smart object could not be launched.'
What should I try?  I tried calling tech support but they weren't able to understand the issue.

Somehow your OS has lost the association of the .ai file extension with the Illustrator application. (or PDF, or EPS - whichever you are using)
You need to reset that association, so the OS can launch Illustrator when Photoshop asks it to edit the .ai file.

  • Hi All,I have an iMac 24'' 2007 and my HDD has gone bad.

Hi everybody ... I am in desperate need of help, concerning the replacement drive! All I find on Amazon, for example, are SATA III drives, and my iMac,being quite old,has SATA I,I suppose?! My question is ... will my machine recognize the SATA III drive, once installed??? I know that the connectors are identical to all SATAs but, since the replacement procedure is quite complicated,I beg you to,at least, tell me if I have to do something prior to the replacement?
I've read somewhere that one should reduce the thoughput from 6 to 3 GB/sec,or something like that, whith some jumpers, but all that is alien to me!!!
I am pressed by work and deadlines,so I would appreciate immencely any feedback!!!
    Thanx in advance,
    George
Just for info,I am looking at a WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA III ... ???

The reason I advise having this done by Apple service techs is if you open this iMac up and work on it yourself and you fail to get your iMac working again, you will not be able to bring to Apple, directly, any longer. They will not do the repairs or installations needed to your iMac. You will be forced to take it to a third party Apple authorized service center for repairs from now on if you attempt to do this drive replacement, yourself.
Tearing down and reassembling an iMac is not for a "newbie" or novice computer user/ upgrader.
iMacs do not have any easily serviceable or user upgradeable parts inside.
I have a lot of Mac upgrading experience and the newer flat style  iMacs (and the much older eMacs) are about the only Macs I will not attempt to try and work on.
Too many screws and screw sizes. Too many really fiddly and fragile connections. Just too many variables of things that can either break or forget or hook up improperly. The 2005 and newer flat screen style generations of iMacs are just complicated and finicky puzzles to work on.

Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal???
I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future
Please contact me or answer the question if you know anything about this!

No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles.

Well, it does depend a bit on whether he/she lives in a country where tuition might be zero, and the minimum monthly wage far lower than in the West. Perhaps CC is not even available in his/her country. Perhaps he/she has to take care of an entire family as well - and no money is left for anything as luxurious as a CC subscription.
We have no way of knowing his/her circumstances. They might be bad. If they are, I doubt Adobe will care she/he is using a cracked old version to learn the craft, and then go legit at a later time when she/he can afford it to produce professional work.
Honestly, I feel Adobe should just provide their tools for free for students. Autodesk does that. No reason why Adobe should not follow suit. Most students I know work with cracked versions anyway.

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator updates fail using Adobe Application Manager, why and what can I do?

In the Adobe Application Manager, it says there are updates for both Photoshop and Illustrator. When I click to update, they both downloaded and attempted to install and in the middle of this process, Application Manager shows that the updates fail. After this, upon restart of my Mac–running Lion–Illustrator shows that it's up to date in the Application Manager and Photoshop shows an update is available. Upon trying to re-update Photoshop again, the update fails again and again.
I have updated before a few days ago with no problem, so I don't understand why the updates are failing and why after doing so, now Illustrator shows that it is up to date and Photoshop does not.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, does anyone know why and what I can do about it?
    Thank you.

    Hi Richei Creative,
    These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.
    Hope these help,
    -Dave

  • Why Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 are so slow on my MacBook Pro early 2011?

First of all sorry for my english
I recently installed Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 and they tend to lag even on just during normal work operations like zooming, opening a file, selecting a tool, browsing menus etc etc.
Cpu, Ram and Gpu usage are normal, I mean when I use these software there's at list 85% of free Cpu, 1GB of Ram still available, and 80% of free GPU. And I got 30GB left on my hardrive which is little but I believe is enough.
So I cannot believe this slow performance is due hardware limitations. There must be some driver issue or something else.
Anyone knows why CS6 is so slow?
    Software version:
    Photoshop CS6 13.0.1
    Illustrator CS6 13.0.0
    My Specs:
    Os: Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Cpu: Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 8 MB
    4GB ram
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M

My experience is that Photoshop can demand and use prodigious amounts of memory and disk space, much more than one might expect from the size of the files being worked on. While I don't have direct experience with CS6, my daughter uses CS4 on a Macbook Air with 4 GB memory and she had 100 GB free (on a 250 GB solid state drive). CS4 is less demanding than CS6, and in fact with the SSD, it runs pretty well, even with just 4 GB memory (the solid state drive is basically like memory, in fact, in some ways). However after running Photoshop on some projects for a while, we noticed she had only 60 GB free disk space. After restarting her Mac, she had 100 GB free again. Photoshop CS4 was using up 40 GB of disk space! And this was simply editting some (multiple) photos from a digital camera. Photoshop not only has its own memory management processes, but it also pages to disk and uses disk space as "scratch space" in its own fashion. I think that it is inadvisable to run Photoshop with less than 100 GB free disk space, and that's with CS4, not even CS6. And if you don't have a solid state drive, the throughput might slow down immensely unless you have a lot of memory (I think someone else pointed this out already).
Bottom line -- based on what I have seen with CS4, 4 GB memory is too low by at least a factor of x2 (16 GB memory would be even better), and I'd say a minimum of 100 GB free disk space is a must as well. I saw CS4 using more than 40 GB of "scratch disk space" and you are using CS6, which must use significantly more resources than CS4, and you indicate only 30 GB free space. That seems too low to me. I think other Adobe major software packages are similarly demanding, unlike any other software I have seen or used. For instance, I think you would have no trouble running MS-Office software (which is also known for using computer resources, but not anywhere as much as Adobe software).
One thing you can do is when you notice things slowing down, not only quit all other software except for CS6, but also in the Finder, under the Go menu, enter
    /private/var
    under Go To Folder ...
and then look in the folder called
    vm
If you see swapfiles, add up the total space they are taking, and also the space taken by the sleepimage file. These are working to decrease the amount of free space you have and they can quickly grow to tens of GB when Photoshop and other Adobe softwares are running.
Since it sounds like you have now upgraded your RAM, that should help, but you may find that the swapfiles and sleepimage files are taking even more disk apce faster and I think 100 GB free space is needed to avoid further slowdowns.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator batch commands missing in Bridge CS6

Photoshop and Illustrator commands missing (eg batch and Live Trace) in Bridge CS6 tools, but they are there in CS5.
    Any thoughts
    much appreciated regards
    Tim

So I deleted/uninstalled all versions of bridge then photoshop, but Bridge would not even install with PS cs5 (maybe it never did, there was no option on install).
In the CS4 suite there was a separate option to install or uninstall Bridge, for CS5 they changed this as combined install with PS.
There are many options for buying separate applications or combinations (Suite) of Adobe Products but according to the Adobe Site Bridge is delivered also with the separate applications Indesign, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Incopy.
Usually when having a complete Suite it is delivered with one of those applications.
Bridge should be able to communicate with all applications from the same CS version, but uses start up scripts for that applications.
When doing normal installation those scripts should be placed in the correct location automatically.
Having different suite versions on your system it will not be easy to make them communicate with each other through one version of Bridge (sadly enough you can also have only one version of Bridge active at the time and different versions of Bridge use different cache folders).
Don't have experience with scripting but maybe the dedicated Bridge scripting forum (link in previous post) can help you out for the answer of customized start up scripts or if it is possible at all.

I cant look at any pdf file even though I can still see reader in my programs. What is going on and what can I do to fix this?

Unfortunately no, It says "Adobe not responding" as well when I try to open a pdf. It has done this a few times where I had to uninstall and reinstall. Also, Illustrator tells me to uninstall/reinstall as well.

The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).
    Cheers

  • My anti-virus is flagging my Photoshop and Illustrator on start-up

    Hello,
My anti-virus software (Kapersky) is flagging my Photoshop and Illustrator on start-up.  It is saying it's similar to PDM Invader, a keystroke recording software.  Is this something Adobe is doing to see how I'm using the programs, or has a virus somehow attached itself to the programs and I need to be worried about it?
    Sincerely,
    Ken

I just noticed this, too, though I've been getting it when I make my first menu selection, not exactly when it launches. Chances are it has something to do with how Adobe is implementing menus in those applications, given that they decided to ditch the standard user interface in favor of their own stylings. It doesn't seem to be happening in any of the other CS6 applications that I've tried so far (InDesign, Media Encoder, Dreamweaver). Might be because only these two are 64-bit? No, Premiere Pro is too and it didn't trigger that warning... must be something in that new ultra-dark look.
Kaspersky seems not to really be interfering too much with the programs and it is only on the first access to a menu (at least for me). Despite having about a dozen such messages in the log, it says "Threats: none".
To stop the warnings, from the Kaspersky Advanced Settings, Threats and Exclusions, Exclusions Settings..., Trusted applications tab, I set up an exclusion for these programs, selecting "Do not monitor application activity" and "Do not monitor child application activity" (though I don't know they have child applications).
This seems to have stopped the warnings for me. Hope it helps you. And perhaps because I'm allowing Kaspersky to send back data, it will eventually learn that Photoshop/Illustrator are okay.

  • Indesign won't install past 42% then says it failed. I downloaded photoshop and illustrator with no issues.

Ive tried to download Indesign but it won't go past 42% on the download bar and then it says it failed. no information to why.
I downloaded Photoshop and Illustrator with no issues
    on a Mac running 10.0.5

Dededededede I would recommend reviewing your installation log files to determine if the installation or download has failed.  If the installation has failed then there will be a specific error within the log which will determine why there was a failure.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Can't Install cc 2014 InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

I have tried several times to install the 2014 updates through cc for InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.  I get an installation failed message, Learn more simply says Installation encountered an error.  Please restart your system and try again. (15)
Restarting and trying again does not help.

    Hi Gianfi,
I used time machine and took the program folder from before the last Apple update (in april) and replaced it with the new one.
the same I did with the application support folder. (Go to the library folder on the harddisk, in the library folder you have to open the applications support folder and look for the Adobe folder.
Replace that folder with the older one from before the latest Apple update using time machine.)
    That helped me.
When you are not using Time machine you can try to reinstall your MacOS but I didn’t try that myself.
I hope this will help you.
