Photoshop as default

How can I make Photoshop Elements the default program for opening photos online?

It might be better to ask in the Photoshop Elements forum...

  • How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?

How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?    I want to be able to right click on a .jpg file, select the EDIT option in the Context Menu, then have Photoshop edit the file instead of Paint.
In Windows XP it was very easy to use the File Manger to associate the file type .jpg and action edit with Photoshop.    No so easy in Windows 7.  It is easy to change the default OPEN application, but I would like to leave Windows Viewer as the default OPEN application and have Photoshop as the EDIT applicaiton.

Before I posted the original question here, I had probably spent a couple of hours trying to research it.   I hate to find no answer for something I know can be done.   So I spent some more time and found the following in the bowels of a Tech Forum that is generally way over my head.  I have modified it to be Photoshop specific.
These instructions will update the default EDIT action for image types - jpg, png, gif and the variations.     If you are unfamiliar with editing the program registry you probably will want to back up your registry or take a system backup.
    1. Open up the registry editor (Regedit.exe).
You will need to be signed on as a Windows user that is an administrator
    2. Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> SystemFileAssociations -> image ->  shell -> edit -> command
This seems like it would be easy but it is not, because there are many key names that are very close (like System.FilesAssociations).   Keep looking because you will find it eventually.
    3. Double click on "Default" (on right window pane) and update the program location.
You should see that MSPAINT.EXE is the current program.
Erase the existing value and enter you photoshop location in quotes followed by %1 in quotes.  For me this is "C:\Program Files  (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
    Hit return.
    4.  Exit Regit and test.

  • Set Photoshop as default bitmap editor

Can I set Photoshop as default bitmap editor (right click on the library item) instead of Fireworks?
    TIA

Thanks you for your reply. Right clicking on an image allows the "open with" option everywhere except Entourage.. Right clicking the image in Entourage only allows "open", not "open with" and then photoshop opens. In order to use Preview, I have to save the attachment to the desktop and then "open with" Preview. The odd thing is double clicking in Entourage used to open images in Previews automatically.

  • Adobe Reader and Photoshop extensions default to preview in Mountain Lion.

My pdf files and all my images that I have designated to Adobe Reader and Photoshop in the "Get Info" window of these files... continually Default to Preview after a few days. This must stop... I never had this issue in Snow Leopard or Lion! Yes... I do hit the "Change All" button each time. Apple and Adobe seem to be at WAR over Preview, and we are payng the price!

For Adobe Reader, try deleting the application, downloading it and reinstalling. I just did this and the first time I opened it, I was asked if I wanted to make it the default.

  • How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems  which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon  EOS 500D  and need to download the  recent  (July  2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page.  Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first)   opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among  Bridge's  "OPEN AS" options. Also,  the "OPEN"  Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN"  menu  default?
Thanks for your suggestions. I am truly befuddled by these  issues.

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:
Here is the download page for ACR 6.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4728
Here is the download page for the CS5 12.0.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733
If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/
See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates.  Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ie
    http://www.firefox.com/
    http://www.google.com/chrome
There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default in Dreamweaver

Hi, PhotoImpact is currently my default program in Dreamweaver CS6. I want to change the default to PhotoShop. I used Associated type or protocol to change from PhotoImpact to PhotoShop, but when I click on a jpg file in Dreamweaver, PhotoImpact still comes up. How can this be changed?

You can change that under Edit > Preferences > File Types/Editors > Under Please choose external editors, select Photoshop on the right (add it by hitting the + if it's not there) > Hit Make Primary

  • Making Photoshop the Default

Ok, here's the thing. I am graphic designer for a firm where I live and I loaded Corel's Paint Shop Pro on my computer since one of the guys here uses that mostly (why I don't know). Anyways I prefer Photoshop, hands down, so I want to make it my default Graphics editor/image viewer (Paint Shop Pro changed it to its program during install). Can someone please walk me through this!!! I am sure I have to edit the registry, but I don't know where!
    ~Greg

Sounds like you are talking windows. (registry comment) Right click on the file you want Photoshop to open. Select open with in the menu and then Choose Program... Select Photoshop and make sure you check the 'Always use the selected program...' check box. Photoshop should now open those files by default. You will have to do this for all the file types you want Photoshop to open. It is a registry entry but this is much easier then messing with the magic registry!

  • How Can I Set Photoshop to Default Open the Most Recent Folder

Lately, Photoshop CC always opens a default folder-which is several clicks away from the folder I am using. How do I set it to default to the most recent open folder when I click "OPEN" ?

They would seem to be, but it's possible that they were released separately in the iTunes Store. Some apps are different but named the same (Angry Birds being a case in point). Not having any of those apps I can't say with any certainty. It's definitely not normal for iTunes to keep older versions.
If you're still on Mac OS X 10.5.6 as your profile indicates, update to 10.5.8 and the latest version of iTunes and see if that makes any difference.
    Regards.

  • How to get rid of PhotoShop as default

I use a different program as a default when I load pictures from my camera. Since I've installed PhotoShop Starter - it automatically pops up to download camara photos. My other program still downloads programs as well. I can't seem to find any options to make PhotoShop stop acting as the default. I use Windows XP. I don't want to uninstall the program, as I use it. I just don't want it as the default reader.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 and unfortunately lost the majority of the photos downloaded from my camera through them becoming 'Missing Files.' The photo's I 'lost' were never to be repeated events - my husbands last fishing trip with his Dad before his Dad passed away, a friends wedding and the birth of our Labrador pups. Luckily I realised there was a problem within 4 to 6 weeks of downloading the upgrade, otherwise I would've lost a lot more. The photos we've lost are heartbreaking enough!
I contacted Adobe by phone and even though they couldn't help me to locate my 'Missing File' photos, they were able to tell me how to turn their camera downloader off.
Follow these steps in order to stop Adobe from overiding your usual photo download programme:-
In the bottom right-hand corner of your screen (near the date) you will see a camera icon. Hover your mouse over it and it should say -Adobe Photo Downloader. Click on this icon and then click on Disable. Once you have done this the camera should come up with a red cross on it.
    I hope this helps.

  • Help with making photoshop the default program to open pictures.

I subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud and use Photoshop the most. I of course want all my pictures to have Photoshop as the default application to open them but I can't get it to work.  When I go to "open with" to change to photoshop it doesn't automatically show up as one of my options so I go to "browse" and find it under program files, adobe, Photoshop cc but when I click on it and accept it won't keep it.  It keeps going back to a different program.  I can't change to default to acrobat or other programs, just not Photoshop.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop CS5+ Default Printer and Remembering Printers in Documents

Yesterday, the last thing I printed from Photoshop was to my Fax subsystem.  Today I opened three new raw files, all of which were destined for printing.
This ended up causing the print dialog to initially point to my Fax service for each of the three documents I opened, even though my system default printer is my HP inkjet.
Perhaps it is thought to be a good idea to have the last printer Photoshop printed to (instead of the system default printer) be the default for the next documents created, but...  It created exactly the wrong results in this case, multiplied by the number of images I opened.  Moreover, it was unexpected operation, because most Windows apps just don't work that way.
Adobe:  Please consider adding user-configurable options to your next version that allow a user to select more "traditional" Windows printer operation.
I can envision 3 settings that could be quite useful:
Use / ignore printer metadata from document.
Use system default printer / use the last printer Photoshop printed to.
Store / don't store printer metadata in document.
Through settings like these someone who wants printing defaults to work "the old way" could have what they want, and passing PSDs around amongst multiple users could be managed, instead of getting users into a situation where printer info that's not locally valid came along with the document.
    Just a thought.
    Thanks.

That brings up a similar, and not only annoying but problematic process PS uses.
After running some images from file A, for instance, I now open File B. File B has several images I will combine into a pano. I create the pano, open it in PS and it says "Untitled_Panorama_1". I click Save As and if I do not watch what I am doing, it will not save it to the current File B but to File A. I find this to be true with any file name change. It will save it to the last file opened, not the current. Imagine finding a file under those circumstances! The only saving grace is if you still have the file in Open Recent under File, you can trace back to where it is stored and move it where it belongs.
The only way I have figured to defeat it is after opening to the new file in Bridge, close Bridge and reopen it. Now the Last and Recent are identical.
DXO never does this. I set the default save location to be the same as the Source. At first I thought that was fussiness, but now it makes sense. If I want to save it elsewhere, I know I want to do it and can pick it.
Makes for some interesting folder contents, to see wedding pictures saved in a wilderness folder!
Hmmm, maybe that was an omen!

  • Photoshop and default e-mail program

I have a recurring problem trying to email from Photoshop. After opening the program and selecting a batch of pictures to send it goes to my default email program (Outlook Express), and everything works as it should. But then if I try to send a second batch it goes to Microsoft Outlook, which is not even configured for email on my computer. I have to close Photoshop and re-open it to get it to go back to Outlook Express. I know that I can just do it by creating an email and using "Attach", but it bugs me that this wont work properly on a consistent basis

    Hello,
Try setting the email client in the preferences of Photoshop Album Starter Edition. For this, Launch Photoshop Album Starter Edition, go to Edit menu and selected preferences. Click on Email tab and select email client as "Outlook Express". Click OK. Restart of application might be required.
Now Outlook Express should be launched every time you try to email photos from Photoshop Album Starter Edition.
One more point, Microsoft Outlook is launched manually or by someother application and then make sure that it is not set as default. In that case "Photoshop Album Starter Edition" might launch Microsoft Outlook for emailing photos.
Do let us know what you observe.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default for opening images?

    Hi,
Right now it's set to Preview. How do I change it to Photoshop? Oh, I have an iMac with 10.6.8 now.
    Thank you.

Right click on the file and choose Get info.  In the Get info field will be Open with where you can select the app to open that file.  You can also select to open all similar files with the chosen app.

  • How can you reset your Photoshop version default in Bridge CS5?

After installing Photoshop CS6 , I have decided my workflow is much better in CS5, but cannot get Bridge to acknowledge Photoshop CS5 with keyboard commands [ex. command O] after deinstalling Photoshop CS6.
I assumed this would have been a Preferences option but it is not.
Please tell me this can be done.
Personally, I find CS6 really slow, specifically with keyboard functions. CS5 would allow you to cue several tasks while it's working on present task. CS6 won't even let you close a file [command W] in mid-save...

    Oops.
Hadn't restarted Bridge CS5 since deinstalling CS6. Now it's opening files in Photoshop CS5.

  • When opening image in Photoshop from Lightroom "edit it," it defaults to TIF format

When I open an image in Photoshop CC by using the "edit with" command in Lightroom 5, after editing, the file will default to a TIF image rather than PSD. This ends up creating large, duplicate files (TIF and PSD) after I correct the problem.
Isn't there a way to ensure Photoshop CC defaults to a PSD regardless of where it's opened.
I do not use any editing or image-adjusting features in Lightroom. Nothing is changed in a photo until I edit in Photoshop. I open with RAW in photoshop.
I'm using Windows 8.1 with plenty of memory and disk space.
    Thanks

    Hi EJToll,
If you like to set the default file format of the file you Edit in Photoshop CC thorugh Lightroom then perform following steps.
Lanuch Lightroom and go to Edit> Preference(Windows) Lightroom>Peference(Mac)
    Click "External Editing" tab
Change the option for "File Format" to PSD as deafult format for Edit In Adobe Photoshop CC
    Click "Ok" button
    Hope this helps.
