Photoshop could not be initialised due to a program error

Today i became member of the creative cloud with Photoshop and Lightroom.
After installation Lightroom works allright, but after starting up Photoshop i get the message that Photoshop could not be initialised due to an program error.
I run the CC cleaner tool, but unfortunately without effect.
System: apple imac 3,2 Ghz intel core i3 4Gb 1333 Mhz DDR3
OS X version: 10.9.5
I hope anyone has found a solution?
KInd regards,
M. Verbiest

HI Jeff, Thanks for your suggestion. In the mean time i've had several contacts with Adobe Support. Finally we came to the conclusion the error was caused during the conversion of the colourtables.
Then on my computer (imac OS X) we searched for the color settings. These are in the system library / Application Support / Adobe / Color.
We renamed the colorsettings by adding .old at the end of the filename and restarted Photoshop. Photoshop started very well and the problem was solved!
Many thanks to the fantastic support from the Helpdesk!

  • Photoshop CC constantly bringing up error "Photoshop could not complete request because of a program error" Help!! How do I fix this?

I have recently been having an error message pop up every now and  then in photoshop CC.  It usually happens after editing every other photo.  It goes away if I close out of photoshop and load it back up. But then it comes back after another couple photo edits. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks!

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like the actual crash logs. From your description it simply sounds like your graphics hardware is acting up, so update the graphics driver. Likewise, you may simply run out of disk space for the PS scratch file, so check that, too.

  • "Could not complete request due to a program error"

On opening multiple jpg files on CS6 (Windows 8) i keep getting there random messages. On your online help i have tried:
    - Expanding my pagefile
    - unchecked "graphic processor"
    - Deleted psp config file
    - updated my graphic driver
But problem is still in the system.
    What to to?

Well, your info is inadequate/ insufficient/ vague. We need exact info about your system, exact memory and file handling settings, what files you work with, what tools/ features/ functions you use when the errors occur and so on. There's always a specific cause.

  • Device Enrollment could not be installed due to an unexpected error

Hi I just installed OSX LION Server and want to enroll devices but I keep on getting the error : Device Enrollment could not be installed due to an unexpected error :
The profile “Device Enrollment (com.apple.ota."my-server-name-".private.bootstrap)” could not be installed due to an unexpected error.
My devices site is running properly, I can install Profiles but I cannot install any device, not even the mini I installed OSX Lion Server upon!
I already removed all certificates and keys for : ""my-server-name-".private" and recreated self signed certificates for SSL and code signing.
    Any ideas?
    Bert

So I just wasted half of a day on this, and at least for my own system I figured it out *without* doing a clean install.
    1. First, check that you have opened the ports as suggested by others here.
    2. If you've done that, then the problem may be a rogue entry in your DNS server setting.  What that means is if you initially set up your server app with one name, then later switched it to a new one, the old name is still "hanging around" causing havoc.  This was the problem.  To fix, you can try the steps below. WARNING: this will wipe your open directory. Make a full backup!  I'm not 100% sure that wiping your OD is necessary, but it worked for me.  Turn off any services you're running.
    3. Download the 10.7 server admin tools here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1419
    4. Open up the WorkGroup manager, and select any network users you've created, then export them.  You're backing them up because you're going to wipe your open directory.
    5. Open Server Admin.app. Click on the reveal triangle for your server, and it will show an entry for "Open Directory". Click on that.
    6. Click on the Settings gear in the top of the right panel.
    7. Where it says Role: Open Directory Master, hit Change....
    8. In the panel that pops up, hit "set up a standalone directory".  It will warn you that it's going to wipe your server open directory data.
    9. Now, on the left side of the same screen, select DNS, then hit the "zones" button on top.
    10. Look for your old host name(s) there.  Select any extra entries that have your old host names, and remove. DO NOT REMOVE your current name entry (the Primary Zone) or the reverse entry (Reverse Zone).  If you remove those, you'll be totally hosed. Only remove redundant entries.
    11. Back in the Server.app, go to the menu and select Manage -> Manage Network Accounts.  It will ask you for some information as it sets up open directory again for you.  Give it what it needs.
    12. To re-import your saved account info, go to Manage -> Import Accounts From File. (I have not tried this step, but it *should* work. YMMV).
    13. Now, go reactivate your profile manager, turn on device management.  It should "think" for a bit while it churns through the new open directory data.
    14. Now, it should work!!! (at least it does for me).  I speculate that the name lookup was getting conflicting results from DNS, causing problems and confusion.  This seems to have fixed it.
    15. If that doesn't work, one other step I took (but it didn't seem to help by itself) was to wipe the device manager database.  To do that, open a terminal and use
    sudo /usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeDB.sh
WARNING: this will wipe any device info that you've set up.  I don't think this is necessary, but might be used as a last ditch effort.
    Hope that helps!

  • How do I correct this error, "The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error."?

How do I correct this error, "The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error."?

Surely you could provide some more information. Your system, what version of LR, is this your first attempt at using the program, or what has been prior experience?  Things are a bit foggy.

  • "Could not use the ***** because of a program error"

I'm using Photoshop CS CC on the new Mac which looks like a rubbish bin, and keep receiving "Could not use the ***** because of a program error". Does anyone know a work around or fix as I can't work with photoshop.

There seem to be recurring permissions errors for Photoshop running under OS X Mavericks. You might check into disk utility : repair permissions, or very carefully manually altering permissions here and there.
Not entirely sure this relates to your issue, but it might help:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1404674?tstart=0
    And  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1403095?tstart=120
And I'm sure you can search for several more threads related to permissions issues with Mavericks. I think Apple needs to do an update to Mavericks. But with careful permissions alteration, you can probably get PS working.
Once you're pretty secure in what permissions can change and what permissions should never change, you can Google a permissions utility called BatChmod. It rocks, is extremely powerful, and in the wrong hands can destroy your entire system.  :+)  So be careful ...

  • The catalog could not be opened.  An internal programming error occured.

I have gotten the following error when I started Elements today...
    Failed To Open Catalog
! The catalog could not be opened.  An internal programming error occured.
I have tried to move the catalog to a different directory to no effect.
This computer is rarely online, it is only used to catalog my pictures, and I have 100s of hours of work in this catalog.
Is this recoverable?  How did this happen?
    Background:
Size of the catalog directory: 61MB
    Core Version 9.0.3
    Operating Systems: 6.1 SP1
    Thanks for your support.

Create a new, empty catalog:  Hold down your Shift key when launching the Organizer and you'll get the Catalog Manager window.  Create a new catalog, naming it something completely different than your existing catalog.
Once you're in the Organizer, use File...Catalog to open the Catalog Manager window.  Highlight your old catalog and hit the "Repair" button.  When that finishes, repeat, using "Optimize".  Then try to open your old catalog.

  • PSE 6- Error: Could not load style because of a program error.

I have PSE 6 on Vista. My program has always run fine until a few days ago when it started up a small white window pops up with a red X that says Could not load the styles because of a program error. I hit ok and the box keeps coming back. I can't do anyint in PSE and I have to end task to close out of the program. How do I fix this.

Delete MediaDatabase.db3 file from location C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US and launch elements again.
This would rebuild the layer styles and all.

  • Photoshop CC 2014, "Could not complete your request b/c program error"

I've not seen this since the early CS days, and generally found Photoshop CC to be extremely stable.
However since starting to use CC 2014, I've had this happen six times - not in a row, just at random occasions doing completely unrelated things.
Exactly three times it's happened on PC1, and three times on PC2.
    PC1
    980X i7, 24GB RAM, Quadro K5000 (332.76)
    PC2
    Xeon x2, 128GB RAM, Titan Black x2 (337.88)
Both installed on SSDs, with external SSD scratch drives (plenty space free).
I figured it may be prefs migrated from CC, but PC2 is a clean install (and no cloud syncing, it's just running in trial mode at the moment) so I guess I can cross that out. Also there don't appear to be any posts reporting this since CS6, which makes it a bit strange that I get it happening on two unrelated installs.
So, being at a loss, does anyone else have any idea why this might be happening?
    Cheers

Thanks for your reply, as it means I can post one of my own - I was
logged out immediately after posting my AdobeID wasn't being recognised
so I couldn't edit my own post to add more detail...so I can now, but
anyway don't get my started on that.
So yes I know more information is needed. As for searching for
vagueries, there's a big difference between "Blue Sky" (very good anime
movie) and "Forum poster ate my dog and spat it back in my face,
    site:adobe.com".
Here are the specific events in order, over a period of the past week:
    1. Selecting a layer.
    2. Pasting a 512x512 image from clipboard into a layer
    3. Dragging an image from disk to the canvas
    4. Selecting a layer
    5. Trying to apply guassian blur filter (error on selecting the panel.
    6. Selecting a path.
This is in Windows 8.1, working on RGB 8bit/channel documents with a
reasonable number of layers (>50,nested). There's nothing special about
the documents, no TypeKit fonts or Smart/Linked Objects (exception being
#3, trying to drag an image from desktop to the active doc).
All documents affected were less than 4,000 x4000 pixels, and the errors
only affected the active document - other open documents could be saved,
    even edited, and closed safely.

  • How can I fix "catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error"?

I have many catalogs and this is only happening with one of them.
I've done a Google search on the error message and tried some things that I found from those search results in forums.adobe.com and www.lightroomforums.net.
I've tried deleting preferences file. That did not help.
I was running version 4.2 when this happened.  Based on what I found by searching, I thought reinstall might fix the problem so I installed 4.3.  That did not fix the problem.
I've tried opening backups but they have the same problem.
I'm running Windows 7, 32-bit.  I have 4 GB memory with plenty of free memory available when I try to open this catalog.  Hard drives have plenty of free space.
I have tried rebooting my computer.  That did not help.
I've been using Lightroom since version 2 and have never had this problem.
lrcat.lock file does not exist for this or any other catalog.
    lrcat file is 317,704 KB.
I did recently install Photoshop Elements 11.  Up until that time I was using Photoshop Elements 6.
    Any suggestions?

I figured out that the error was caused by file permission problems.
I made sure that my user has Full Access to all files related to this catalog and it looks like the catalog is useable again.  I don't know how the permissions could have gotten messed up.
This catalog worked as recently as 2 days ago.
It would be nice if error message gave a hint as to what the problem might be.

  • I cannot open Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor. I am working on a Mac. I get this message: "Could not complete your request because of program error". If I am in Organizor, that message will have a black box below it that says "Loading the Adobe Photoshop

I was using the program yesterday.  I am just learning the program. I learned to download pictures by opening I-Photo and directing the edit process to Elements Editor. Then I stored the pictures in a album in Organizer. This morning when I turned the program on, I received the message above.

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.
