Photoshop CS 6 Beta

adobe has done another nice (but boring) release.... at least boring for me.
the improvements are nice and welcome.
as small as they are (crop tool etc. ) im sure the workflow will be better.
but lets be honest.... are you excited about the new photoshop CS 6?
ACR 7 is the biggest improvement from my view... but i have bought LR4 already.
so what..... i have to pay twice to get the functionallity into photoshop.
content aware in the patch tool.. well yes.. but it´s still not usefull without manual work 90% of the time.
nothing that makes me wish to upgrade.
video.... nothing i need in photoshop. but im sure some will like it.

if you only work for the web then the lack of 16/32 bit support is no problem.
but the usefullness of 16/32 bit support is obvious for me.... so i did not think that i have to request such a feature.
in fact since CS3 i though "next version they will sure update the filters or the curves adjustment layer".
when .EXR was supported i thought now is the time...but nothing.
i mean.... you guys are using digital cameras too and you shot RAW.. not?
i hate when i have to reduce my images to 8 bit.

but to be honest, they can be solved and i, as an enduser, i am not satisfied when you tell me it´s difficult (it does not help me).

and one thing that annoys the hell out of me for some time.... is the filleting of a box selection when you expand the selection.
and yes.... i have set feathering to 0 pixel in the expand menu.
maybe there is a magic workaround but i don´t get it.
please change that, make an option to disable it... whatever.

Installation fails Photoshop CS6 Public beta 64bit windows 7

I tried to install the windows version of Photoshop CS6 Public Beta, the 64bit version failed to install said that it failed to locate folder tokens. I uninstalled it and restart my computer. I tried to reinstall but I still get the same error.
What I have tried, was turn off all none windows services incase there were conflicts, and truned of my virus checker(norton contant guard). I've also tried to created another admin account incase there were some corrupt certificates or permissions. Nothing has worked for me.
I'm running on a upgrade version of Windows 7 Ultimate (originally on home premium) on a HP Pavilion Elite e9180f.

Thanks for your response. I only find one folder in the Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers folder. It is AdobeInDesign7xIconHandler64 and the file is mod-mul.key so probably doesn't apply.

Photoshop CS6 Extended Beta Sign In problem

I have downloaded and Installed the Photoshop CS6 Extended Beta, however there is a problem when I try to sign in. Here's my detailed summary of what happens:
- I press the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Icon in my menu bar.
- This opens a window which its Title says 'Sign in required', and below it 'Please sign in with your Adobe ID to use your trial of Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended.'
- I press the 'Sign in now' button at the bottom right of the window.
- The window changes into a darker shade of grey while there is a dark circular loading wheel at the place where the button was.
- The window stops loading and this appears: ' Please connect to the Internet and retry' and a paragraph which follows 'Either your computer is offline or the clock on your computer is set incorrectly, causing a connection error. An Internet connection is required. Please connect to the internet or adjust your clock and try again. If this problem persists, please contact Customer Support.'
- There are now two buttons in the bottom right corner of the window. 'Cancel' or 'Retry'
I have retried many many times with this same error always occuring. I have synced my clock, I have made sure i'm connected to the Internet, I just dont know what to do anymore.

Cause if i have a desk lamp it's going to channel the light to a specific spot (or certain side of the room and when that happens it tends to stress your eyes out more when looking at a cpu screen then to the left or right there is a light,then if it's behind you there's going to be to much shadow interference).But on the other hand a light placed directly above where you sit in the Dungeon will channel the light evenly not causing the eye strain unless you keep looking up.
And why a controller cause when your in the middle of a project (well i might just be speaking for myself but...) I tend to get into the program a little to much and i hate to get up walk across the room (although its only like 6' away but still if i can just open a program and click on "dim lights or whatever".,and not having to move from the desk that would be nice.
I mean if theres something that can do this for cheaper than $50 i'll do it but i didn't just want to say like $10 i wanted to be a little realistic- Anyways any help would be great also prgm has to be "Mac OSX/Tiger Compatible"

Unable to start Photoshop CS 6 Beta - could not open a scratch file because the file is locked (win)

The Program does nor start.
I the the following error message:
Gould not open a scratch file because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access perimssens, or another program is using the file. Use the "Properities" command In the WIndows Explorer to unlock the file.
Which file shoud I unlock?

Most power users are having big problems, We don't put scratch files on our SSDs because we know that this will run those into the ground. They are not intended for the pounding of constant read / write cycles. We also switch off indexing and any other constant cycling technology. Again, SSDs are best use for static files. They are, in fact, intended mainly for super fast launch, which is what they do so well. Obviously, if all you have is an SSD, then you have to live with the shortened life.
I have my scratch files and my TEMP folder set to a huge and empty internal drive. I have my USERS folder hard linked to a different huge internal drive, where I also store MY DOCUMENTS. I have an even larger internal drive where I store MY PICTURES. This has worked flawlessly (and very fast) for CS5 and LR4 Beta 1. Only CS6 complains constantly.

This one not may or may not be a bug. But since I own and run dozens of applications, and only CS6 is freaking out constantly, I would say that it is not normal behavior.

Some commands are not working nor in illustrator nor photoshop, any advice better than Adobe?

Illustrator is not fuctioning at 100%, some commands do not work ( eg - command open, nor place etc ) and same with photoshop....

You may try the list, possibly starting with item 7) in 5), which is a list of the usual suspects, which may disturb and confuse Illy so she fails to do even simple things.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

External media: It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Lightroom, Photoshop, PS CS3 beta

I used to cleaner to remove Photoshop CS3 beta after inadvertedly deleting by dragging. The licensed version of PS CS3 is installed but apparently there are a couple of bits and pieces of the beta still around because when I click on Develop>Photo>Edit in Photoshop CS3.app it brings up the beta screen. Is there any way to change the location of this menu item manually? In other words, can I select the true app somehow?

If I recall correctly, Adobe has made available an uninstaller for the beta that is required to get rid of it correctly. You might go over to the Photoshop forum and look around. I'm not sure what to do in your situation where you deleted incorrectly. But that forum may have hints as to what to do.

I have to admit I hadn't noticed it, but there's a lot about it here:

It was apparently introduced with driver 6.3 and is on by default. Plus a lot of folk seem to think it the answer to their prayers.

How best to become a proficient Photoshop user (or better)??

I'd appreciate a steer.
I am an enthusiastic amateur digital photographer. I am also fairly proficient with computer stuff generally (my degree). In terms of digital photography, I'm off the bottom of the curve but not by much: I understand white balance, the rudiments of colour spaces, luminance, contrast, etc... but as soon as it gets complex I am out of my depth. Bottom line is I think I understand it as well, or better, than most people who come to Photoshop for the first time. So far with PS (CS4) I have managed to remove minor blemishes, fix red eye, adjust contrast and colour to make photos more interesting - but (for example) I got stuck when trying to remove an image from the background.
BASICALLY I want to know how best to learn PS to a professional level; I am smart enough to pick stuff up fast but too busy to attend a training course. So I'm looking for the best book, or the best video tutorial, or whatever that will take me from understanding the basics (tools, brushes, layers, etc) all the way through to being able to create pre-press standard images and "alternative art"!
What do you pros out there recommend, if you can remember that far back? I am thinking I can devote a few hours per week (3-6) and will keep studying as long as it takes.

As Curt says, Lynda.com does really have great tutorials, but there are a lot of good ones out there that are free. For example, Deke McClelland has posted great videos on the top 40 features of Photoshop (his choice of features of course) on his blog http://www.deke.com/dekepod. (Feature one and two haven't been posted yet.)
Regarding books, I recommend that you go to a bookstore or a site like Amazon.com, where you can preview some of the chapters of the books and read reader reviews. This is because people learn in different ways, and you need books that cater to your style of learning. I got the Classroom in a Book books for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign at a discount when I registered my Adobe software, but I don't use them. I recently bought Martin Evening's Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers, and it is much better for me. You might like something completely different. It would be great if you would report back on what works best for you. Good luck!

Problem installing Photoshop CC: "A beta version of this product exists", but there is no such beta

I can't install Photoshop CC on my Windows 8 64-bit Desktop system. The attached message pops up as soon as the installation process is done extracting the download.
It's the only CC product that won't install. I've tried over many days, several reboots.
All other CC products have installed and upgraded without trouble.
I've previously had the Master Collections, with only AE CS6, Premiere Pro CS6, and Photoshop CS6 still currently installed from the CS6 Master Collection.

All I know is CS2 runs like garbage on the new Mac Pro at work.
Slower than my G5 (before all the duo core craze) running CS2.
I'm waiting out for the new OS and PS3 and only after a year
of it being in the market will I go bother try to get a new MAC
with the software for myself.
At work all I see is spinning rainbow pizzas all day long.
And this is not just with photoshop, but with everything.
The finder slows down and I have to wait for skittles to
finish spinning.
I hope the new OS next year makes the Mac Pro feel less like a G4 and more
of the hyped intel chipped Duo Cuad turbo charged farrari engined machines they are suppose to be. I'm not convinced yet.
I'm a Mac lover, but I also like it when things that suppose to be faster
are faster.

Photoshop CS 3 Beta and ASE

I know you already said that ASE works only with the CS2
suite, but I'm using the new PS CS3 beta and tried to open an ASE
file and it failed. Is there some trick to importing? Or is CS3 not
supported?

then it worked and the colors appeared. I've tried to recreate the
error but I haven't been able to. Just a fluke.
On a positive note, kuler is really great for inspiration and
ideas. It has the sleek/slick lightroom workflow and feel and I
hope it will eventually have a desktop plugin (lightroom 1.0 ?

Does photoshop shadows are better then the new css?

My question is simple. I want to use photoshop to make some pictures with shadows but i want to make a balance between loading speed and clarity

With a 3G iPhone when connected to a 3G network provides for being able to receive and place calls while actively accessing the internet.
This isn't possible with the 2G iPhone when actively accessing the internet via EDGE.
If you don't live in an area that has 3G network coverage, or don't regularly travel to areas that do on business, this is not important. This alone is important to me, since I live in an area where at&t recently added 3G network coverage (2-3 months ago or so), and I've missed a number of business calls that went straight to voicemail while I was actively accessing the internet via EDGE.
I don't SMS that much. I've come close to exceeding 200 in a month, but I've never gone over with my iPhone during the last 12 months.
The 2nd generation iPhone and the cost of available SMS plans isn't for everyone, and neither was or is the first generation.

Anyone else think Photoshop needs a better fractal noise filter?

I'm surprised that after all these versions, PS still has a really simple fractal noise generation filter (Render Clouds). While AfterEffects gives you a huge amount of control with it's Fractal Noise effect, PS is limited still to a 'one type only' cloud filter (with no controls at all!). I would have thought that a tool allowing you to create various organic, procedural patterns (clouds, veins, bumps, etc) would be a hugely requested feature in PS. I use Fractal Noise in AE extremely frequently, for a large variety of uses.
Any thoughts/comments on that?

Yeah, I thought so too. This doesn't cover all the bases, but the free plugin "2d hyperclouds" does offer more options (scale, levels, intensity, random generators, etc). You can get it at:
