Photoshop CS3 Disk not Available

I have several users who when trying to print in Photoshop get an error message saying Could not print <filename> because the disk is not available.  Other users can access the printer with no issues when printing to the same printer with the same file.  The issue does go away if Photoshop is closed and then opened again.  Anyone else encounter issues like this?<br /><br />Equipment:<br />Mac Pro (Early 2008)<br />OS X 10.5.2<br />Adobe Design CS3 Premium<br />10GB Ram<br />320GB drive

I have a similar issue in my mac lab. We are using CS3 with Intel Core Duo iMacs.<br />I can print to all printers from all applications with one exception. When I send a job to the color laserjet 5550 through Photoshop, I get the Could not print <filename> because the disk is not available error. However, if I preview the image first, I can then print the job. All other CS3 apps print to the 5550 without error.<br />The printers are managed with Workgroup manager.<br />All clients and the xserve are running 10.4.11.<br />I have another lab of G5's and they CAN print to this device through photoshop.<br />I have repaired permissions and reinstalled the app without success.<br />All of the clients are built from a source image. This original build or source for my image does print to the 5550. I only get the error after imaging.<br />Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Could not initialize Photoshop because disk not available

And it wont let me re-install PS. It seems to think it's already installed, which it is.
    This is CS3.

    Hi, Buko--
You mean "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp" or the whole Settings folder?

  • Photoshop can't initialize because disk not available

Because of the smaller size of the boot disk of my Mac (40GB) I have to move everything to a larger capacity drive. I have been using a 500GB firewire drive for almost a year for mass storage. I am now have it running as my startup drive, then I will upgrade to OS X 10.5.x on the 500 GB drive. Right now BOTH drives are running 10.4.11. I will keep the older drive on 10.4 until all apps that need upgrading to run on 10.5 have been replaced.
I used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the entire original drive content to the newly initialized large drive. The problem is that Photoshop will NOT start up from the new drive. It will get to the point of measuring memory, then gives an error message of "could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available".
If I click on the Photoshop app on EITHER drive while using the system on the 500GB drive, I get the disk not available message. If I reboot on the original drive, Photoshop WILL run as before. Clicking on the app on the 500 GB drive while running the OS on the small drive still gives the error message.
This problem only is with Photoshop, not InDesign or Illustrator which work normally. Needless to say, having to reboot back and forth is a big pain in the back side and a huge waste of time. There must be an invisible file that requires Photoshop to run on a particular drive with a particular installed OS.
Before I update to CS3, I want to be sure I will be allowed to install on the larger drive and not be forced to install on the drive that the only working version OS Photoshop will run. I have not tried to see if I can run the "new" Photoshop transferred to the 500 GB drive by deleting the original version. I can't afford to run the risk not having any Photoshop at all.
Much to my dismay, you can NOT re-install CS2 for any reason if there is not an older version of Photoshop so it knows you are upgrading. Once you install the one time as an upgrade, you have a set of very expensive coasters!!!! What if a drive dies or an app gets corrupted and you have to re-install? Guess you shell out $1,200 for a new full version. What a rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I want to change the way my single computer is laid out, that is my decision, not Adobe's.
    Any suggestions or help???
Related to this problem but not requiring a response as it is a complaint -- I tried to deal with Adobe customer service today and after 30 minutes was told I was being transferred to a supervisor. (Talking to the first person was extremely difficult as they were obviously on a phone bank overseas.) When the phone answered, it asked for a mail box number or wait for assistance. I waited and then a message came on that no one available and hung up on me so I had to call back again. I am NOT happy with Adobe at this point.

I have given up trying to get Photoshop to work on the new external firewire drive, so this thread can die like Photoshop has been doing. Right now, I am not particularly thrilled with Adobe.
I have changed the scratch disk so it could be on any of the four drives, but the app that wouldn't open without the error has to be able to be opened to change its prefs ( catch 22). I also changed the ownership, but that didn't help. The drives are all HSF+.
I have now split apps over two internal 40 GB drives with Adobe and Apple remaining on the boot drive and all other apps aliased from the second drive, giving me a total of 41 GB free space. Data files have been relocated to the 500 GB firewire drive along with iPhoto files and iTunes and all archive and backup info on the 750 GB firewire.
I now think the problem is that Adobe does not allow a user to install a useable Photoshop on an external system drive (since it can work if opened from the internal system drive).
Yes, I know I have an older system, but it works, does the work, and has to do for now. Not everyone can afford the newest and best Mac every year!

  • IDVD - "supported disk not available"

When I rip a disk using MTR and burn it using DVD2One or Disk Utility, I get a message "supported disk not available" when I try to play in iDVD. This has started happening after a few dozen successful burns.
I also cannot find a guide to error messages for Disk Utility.

Yes, you're right. I did mean DVD player. Good catch. DVD2One (always an adventure!) does compress to 4.33 GB so the file fits on a standard DVD RW. Since you mention it, the problem started when I opened a new pack of DVDs, Memorex in this case. But some worked fine. I just put in a new blank disk and Disk Utility is saying capacity is 0 bytes, write ability is read only. Does that indicate a bad disk? If so, I have a lot of them. I've heard good things about Toast, but I was avoiding the $100 cost, since DVD2one is supposed to burn, and I already spent about $60 for that. Wish I hadn't. Thanks for the insight, Glenn. Anything else that comes to mind, I'd appreciate hearing.

  • Backup disk not available error

I had been using a Time Capsule as a backup device for years. It has worked very well. Last month, there was some work being done in my house and the contractors knocked over my cable modem and Time Capsule. They weren't damaged, but they got disconnected.
I had trouble getting everything started back up until I reset the Time Capsule to its factory settings and set up a new network, that had the same name as my old one.
The Time Capsule transmits fine, but it won't make backups.
I get a variety of error messagess:
    1) Backup disk not available
    2) User name or password for backup disk is not available
I know the passwords are correct. The backup disk shows up in Finder. But the Time Capsule won't start backing up.
I have tried deleting an entry from the Preferences folder for the Time Machine and reestablishing it and I get the same error.

This was finally solved by removing every possible permutation of the name of the network and TC from the Keychain and reentering all the passwords.

  • DVD Player problem - "supported disk not available" ?

    Hi all,
Running DVD Player 4.6.5 on Tiger. Up until a while, everything was fine. Now, it won't play any DVD. It starts when I insert a DVD, but does not start playing automatically (which is what the setting currently is). When I start playing manually, all I get is the message "Supported Disk Not Available" with a stop sign beside it.
    Any suggestions/ideas/things to look into?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Mine does this on occasion.
Haven't figured out what the problem is but restarting fixes it.
Can't get it to repeat the problem enough to troubleshoot it.
I posted a year ago but no responses.

  • "backup disk not available" since moving to 5GHz

    Dear Community,
I am getting "Backup Disk Not Available" since switching  to the 5GHz band.
I've have to leave the 2.4GHz because it's simply too congested round here. All the neighbours have wireless and I kept getting dropout and slow streaming of video and audio.
My Time Machine is extended by an Airport Extreme and both have 2.4 and 5 GHz bands enabled.
I looked on Airport Utility - but that is giving me a nonsense result - my Time Machine is not turned off. The Airport Extreme close to the room where I am - is only there to extend the network, but Airport Utility tells me that that is connected straight to the internet.
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your time.
    Yours,
    Amro

A second restart seemed to fix it!

  • DVD will not play and states "supported disk not available" and makes a weird noise and then ejects the dvd

My MacbookPro is only 5 months old and in really good condition. The only problem I am encountering is that when I insert any type of dvd disc, it starts to make this weird grinding noise that goes eeee-eeee, and then does that a couple of times and then the disc ejects on its own. When i try to play it with idvd, it does the same noise thing and then iDvd state "supported disk not available". The dvd does not even read on the computer.

If only five months old it is still under warranty. Take it back.

  • My time capsule worked for several weeks and is now telling me backup disk not available? What to do?

My time capsule worked for several weeks and now is not backing up. Tells me backup disk not available? Any suggestions?

    This is a lion bug..
Generally just rebooting the TC will get it back. Otherwise you need to reset the TC and redo its setup.
Tell us a bit more.. but there is as yet no work around or fix for lion.
Certain things help.. but wireless is also a weak link. It will generally work better by ethernet.
Try and get back if it is still bugging you.. I can suggest some other things.. but I do not know of or read a bullet yet.
(Snow and TC firmware 7.5.2 which I run do not have this issue.. so the bug was introduced with Lion and 7.6 firmware)

  • PS won't let me save because "Disk not Available"

This is the second time this has happened.  Customer help had me delete a file in the library but I can't remember which file.  Can anyone help me?

If it is the scratch disk full, you may try to delete .tmp / edit/purge/all. Or assign a scratch disk with enough space--if that's what you mean. But if it is disk not available, it's because of the disk permission? On mac, choose the scratch disk you want, press command I-> Sharing &Permission-> Ignore ownership on this volume. (IF that is the boot drive, ignore this suggestion. Don't do it.)

  • Trying to play DVD movie... Supported Disk Not Available.

The DVD works on my home DVD player and also my Windows machine. I get an error saying "Supported Disk Not Available".
    Any suggestions?

I have been experiencing this since couple of days. I have installed a Pioneer DVR-112 quite recently and have also tried out PatchBurn.
I have resolved my problem at least for now by removing all PatchBurn profiles.
Since I am thinking that this is a sporadic issue, I am not sure whether this has eliminated the problem.

  • Time Machine "Backup Disk Not Available" over WAN

I have port forwarded port 46 (TCP and UDP) to port 548 a Mac mini server running Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I have Time Machine backup disk on it set as a share point with Time Machine support enabled. On my Mac Pro running OS X 10.8.5, I am able to connect via AFP to my server with the address "afp://my-ip-address:46" and can read and write on the backup disk share point. I tested that, and it works. When I am on the same LAN as the server, I can use that disk for Time Machine and have been doing so for years. However, I cannot do a Time Machine backup to that share point over the WAN. When I open Time Machine preferences, I can select the share point as my backup disk, but once I start the backup, it says "Backup disk not available" and fails to start. How could I fix this problem?
In case you're wondering, I forward port 46 to port 548 instead of port 548 to port 548 to minimize hacking attempts. Last time I used a default port, a computer in Taiwan started spamming SSH authentication failures.

I did find this article via Google
    <http://www.macgurulounge.com/make-time-machine-remotely-back-up-to-your-time-cap sule/>
Personally, I use CrashPlan (free option using my own disks) to backup over the internet.  It works very well when I'm away from home.  Everything is encrypted.

  • Cannot access time machine, backup disk not available error code.

My time machine stopped backing up. It is a 2TB. I get error code -6584. and says backup disk not available. Coincidentally, I had to reset my time machine for a forgotten password about 6 days ago. Wi-fi works fine, but a few days later when trying to access old files throughout the time capsule I could not. Said my last back up was the day the time machine had to be reset. I have 1.79 of TB used..which is weird my computer is only 4 G and have only filled up 2.4 G of it.
    ANy ideas?

We haven't seen report of problem with 6584 for a while. It generally means a corrupted backup. You need to do a verify of the back.
    See A5 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
This will take a very very long time if the backup has almost filled the TC.. so at least use ethernet connection.
You do have a problem.. the formatted capacity of a 2TB disk is 1.8TB.. If you have used up 1.79TB then sorry but you really need to erase the TC and start over.
The TM can fill up huge disks if you use parallels or dropbox or any dual boot system that has a virtual disk file.. TM will backup 20GB for every 1KB change. That file is hidden btw so you might not see it but I assure you it will chew up space.
I don't know what you mean by computer having only 4GB. That would make it rather ancient.. Surely even smallest SSD must be 64 or 128GB.

  • Backup disk not available - Time Machine

I have an external disk attached to my Airport Extreme through a usb hub and also my printer. Since the upgrade to Yosemite I get constant warnings from TimeMachine "Backup Disk Not Available". In order to make backups I use to

Here is the normal set of changes I tell people to make .. but Yosemite is poor and none of these individually or collectively may help.. sorry.. the issue is directly caused by Apple and until they give a proper fix you are going to be doing jiggery pokery and a lot of hoping for the best.
A factory reset of the TC is the start.. it is required so you can find it again.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
