Photoshop (CS3 - Vista Ultimate) layer effects issues

I am running a Vista PC with 4GB RAM and other complimentarily high spec hardware.
I am having trouble when adding 'stroke' effects to layers. At times I end up with horrendous colour-of-the-stoke spots/patches all over my layer. I have boild the issue down to the following reason: there are small one-pixelish or larger 'holes' in the layer and therefore the stroke is placed around these 'holes'. If the stroke is placed 'inside' then the spots/patches will appear but when the stroke is placed on the 'outside' then the spots/patches do not appear.
This issue happens pretty much all the time when stretching and distorting and warping a layer or (in particular) when adding, for example, white space to a layer and then popping a stroke onto it.
I do not seem to remember it happening in the past - since a year past (mid-2007) - but seems to be happening to an increasing degree recently. I never noticed it happening before using CS3.

I solved the problem.

  • Photoshop CS3 Selecting top layer bug

    Hi,
I think I've just found a bug in Photoshop CS3 for Mac.
When trying to select the first layer in the layers palette the selection hangs for several seconds before becoming responsive. This only happens when selecting the first layer in the layers pallette.
I'm using a MBP i5 running Snow Leopard.
I was able to reproduce this anomaly on a college's machine who is also on a MBP, running Snow Leopard but has a Core 2 Duo chip.
    Brian

Sorry, I was wrong about 10.0.2.
Of couse Adobe should fix a bug such as this, especially since it's so prominent and clearly an update created the issue.
So far you assume that the update is the culprit.
I can’t reproduce the problem with Photoshop 10.0.1 on OSX 10.6.4 so it may yet be specific to the stations you have tried it on.
Adobe will hardly spend resources on an obsolete piece of software – so you should either go through the usual trouble-shooting-routines (including System maintenance and fonts validation) to see if you can amend the issue yourself or get used to it – or hope someone else can help you in some way.
But if you expect an upgrade for CS3 you will probably get disappointed.

  • Photoshop CS3 and Light Room color issues on Mac

    Hi,
I'm a photographer and I work mostly on my Mac. Recently however I started having issues when editing in Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 as the colors are very off from Lightroom.
I attached these 2 images to show the differences.
From Photoshop or directly from camera into Lightroom images look fine but after being edited in Lightroom and exported they look all brownish - green in Photoshop and on any other computer as well in print.
I try to research it a bit online and it seems it all has to do with color profiles but can't get to the bottom of it.
I tried to change the lightroom from ProPhoto RGB to Adobe RGB 1998 but it does not seem to work.
The Photoshop is set on Monitor RGB and all images from Photoshop are fine on other computers and in print.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

Well, I think what you need to do is get a better grasp on the fundimentals of color management-which is a bit beyond the scope of what the forums can offer you.
The bottom line is that Lightroom & Photoshop CSx (meaning past CS or actually even back to 7) can and does make use of display profiles (you can't turn it off even if Photoshop has a setting that makes you think you can). An image in Lightroom and Photoshop is always color managed...outside of an app that is color management, all bets are off.
Save, assigning and converting to profiles are all very different. Photoshop CS3's color settings are absolutely critical because that's how you deal with managed and unmanaged color.
Until you learn different, I would suggest that you set your CS3 color settings to North American PrePress 2....if you want images for the web, Convert To sRGB or use the new Save For Web (which can now do the sRGB conversion-finally).
For other uses and purposes, I would suggest that you seriously consider using Adobe RGB-until such time that you understand the implications of using Pro Photo RGB.

  • Bug:  Holding slider in Photoshop CS3 color selection dialog causes issues under Windows 7

I was using the color selection dialog this morning and discovered that clicking and holding the vertical slider or the little arrows for about three or four seconds causes Windows 7 to declare Photoshop CS3 as being unresponsive.  The whole Photoshop UI starts freaking out at that point:  The color selection dialog "vanishes" and black bars start appearing all across the application.  Minimizing and then showing the application restores it to its previous state.

You're welcome.  Glad to hear the driver update corrected the issue for you.

I'm slightly envious of your 5670. But only slightly.
I just got it, having previously used a 4670.  The 5670 is not hugely fast in the benchmarks, probably not much faster than yours, but it animates everything in Photoshop perfectly smoothly (Photoshop is far less demanding than most games).  I am most fond of the fact that the 5670 draws so little power it doesn't need an extra power connection over and above what it gets from the PCIe buss, and so it runs cool and quiet.

  • Photoshop CS3 Vista 64bit Activation

Im trying to activate my photoshop CS3 (came in a box) and when I try to activate it online it fails epically and tells me error code 194:13 and when I try to do the phone activation, it tells me that my activation number is incorrect, any ideas?

194:13 is a rather high number that is not covered under "for technical reasons", so chances are good you have fallen victim to pirated software... Well, anyway, only phone support can help you with such stuff.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 skew layer action issue

    Hello,
I have a set of actions from previous version of PSD (CS6 > CC) which includes skewing a layer and placing it in an exact position. Worked like a charm.
Now, I have upgraded to CC 2014 and these actions are useless...
E.g. - what one action did in previous versions of PSD:
    two documents open in PSD:
    1) take open document > flatten > image size to width 1000px keep ascpect ratio > select all > Ctrl+C
    2) select previous documet > paste > move > free transform including skew
Result in previous versions of PSD was exactly the same. In PSD CC 2014 the skew is different (incorrect) and the placement of the transformed layer is wrong.
Tried to create the same action in the new PSD CC 2014 and the result was the same. Even more - the new transformed layer is placed as if chaotically depending on the zoom of the document it transformed in.
Any suggestions, please? I am quite desperate - I need to process large numbers of files this way...
THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP
    Tom
Correct result from previous versions of PSD:
Error result in PSD CC 2014:

If your are replacing the wall image with image files that are the same size an resolution.   Have you tried placing the image in the PSD file as a smart object layer,  Then record the action to use replace smart object layer content.  Rather then pasting in a new image layer and transforming the new layer.   Since the problem you seem to have is the transform step is not working correctly.  Recording transform steps can also be tricky.  You need to have set Photoshop's ruler units so the step is recorded the way it need to be. Transforms can be recorded using absolut pixel values, relitive to document size in percentages and in relative units like inches which depends on the document DPI resolutio. If it is a CC 2014 bug you should report using this link Photoshop Family Customer Community

  • Photoshop CS3 - Vista | slow file opening

    Hello NG,
i dont know the source for this problem, but i think after the last Vista Update Photoshop needs such a lot of time to work and also to open files.
I have reinstall the new update of Photoshop from adobe.com.......but nothing...
    Is there a known thing?
    Thank´s and greetings from Germany
    Mike

    > Could too many fonts installed caused this?
No, but a bad font might. And many people who think they have too many fonts have acquired them free over the Internet, and some of these DO have problems that may affect Photoshop. You will have to remove all the non-system fonts, and then start adding them slowly, testing with each addition to make sure a bad font is not in the list.

  • Exporting Captivate 3 to Flash CS3 (Vista Ultimate 32)

I saw the other topics describing issues involving exporting
Captivate to Flash, but I can't get the export to work at all. The
first couple times I tried I got the "unknown error," and now the
.cp files don't even show up in the list of importable files.
I've applied all the latest Adobe updates. I really need to
be able to work on these Captivate 3 files in Flash. Any help would
    be appreciated.

    Thanks for your help, Rick.
Yes, I've reviewed it and followed its instructions. I've
found that I need Flash to be closed before I start an export from
Captivate or nothing happens. (I can't import from Flash at all.)
Even when the export works, I'm only getting the first slide.
So it looks like I have some poking around to do. I was hoping this
was going to be a "press a button and go" operation (yeah, right).

  • Photoshop CS3 wrong colors, monitor profile issue

Hi, I have this problem, i formatted my pc, reinstalled everything, and when i started Ps, with ,me this error, showing white like purple, any suggestion?
    http://img379.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pscs3nz5.jpg
    Thanks.

Recalibrate your monitor. You can use Adobe Gamma if you have it, or try some free software like Quickgamma. Hardware calibrators are best and most accurate to keeping your monitor calibrated consistently, if you want to spend some money, but otherwise, software eyeball calibrators can fix your problem cheaply and easily.

  • Photoshop cs3 + windows vista + intuos 3

I am working with "photoshop cs3" "windows ultimate vista" and an "wacom intuos 3" tablet and I experience heavy lags while drawing like the brush-strokes don't quite follow my moves, and I have to wait for them to catch up.
When I open a large file and I try to apply the first brush stroke on my drawing the cursor screen disappears for a while and photoshop is not responding.
Then Photoshop comes back so the cursor and I can start to work. But as soon as I drag the page using the little Hand tool photoshop stops responding again for few more seconds and when it restarts I can hardly control the direction of my new brush strokes.
Apparently in order to restart the only remedy I found (by chance) is by toggling the layer visibility status (change a layer from visible to not and back to visible again). After this exercise I can draw in photoshop again! But of course same problems again as soon as I will use the hand tool and move on the screen again!!!
Any idea about what could be behind my problems!?
    What should I check?
(These problems started after last week immediately after re installation of vista on my machine, I never had this problem with vista photoshop and intuos on that same machine before!)
    Thanks
    Mario

I have CS3, Vista Ultimate and an Intuos3 tablet. No lags or delays now. But I used to have them and many were reported on the Wacom Users Forum when Vista first came out. I can't remember now what the fix was - have a look on the Wacom Users' Forum. If you had it running ok on your previous Vista installation some software setting must have changed in the new installation. Things that may help are:
get latest Nvidia vga card drivers (if you have an Nvidia card); get the latest Wacom driver; Logitech Setpoint software conflicting - the latest is ok for me; disable/switch off the Vista Pen and Input device.
Sorry, I can't remember the fixes but they should be available if you dig around in the Wacom Users' Forum.

  • Photoshop Layer Effects not recognized

Since it's so easy in photoshop to apply a layer effect, shadow, lighting, etc, i thought we could get it while creating a button, but i had no success.
Do we really have to flatten the effects of the photoshop file ?

    Hi,
Photoshop files with layer effects should work fine in Muse, do you mind sending the .psd file you're having trouble with to [email protected] so I can take a look? Please also include a link to this thread.

  • Copying a CMYK Indesign CS3 photo element into a Photoshop CS3 RGB document - color retention?

Copying a CMYK Indesign CS3 photo element (photo silo) into a Photoshop CS3 RGB document - color retbtion issues in a Smart Object?

What a bad idea pasting an image into Indesign instead of placing it is.
I would recommend writing an X4 pdf without downsampling and compression and opening that pdf in Photoshop (but set to »Images« instead of »Pages«).
And if the image is unprofiled Edit > Assign Profile with the indd’s profile before converting it to RGB.

  • Photoshop CS3 Layer Style Issue

I have Photoshop CS3. Ever since I installed it I have had an issue with Layer Styles, one that I have not had before with other versions of Photoshop. Whenever I apply a Layer Style to a layer the Effects menu automatically drops down in the layers palette. I have to go and manually close the menus each time for every layer that I apply the style to. I have never had this problem before with any other versions of Photoshop.
If you have any ideas or advice on how to fix this problem it would be of a great help.

Go to the layers palette options and uncheck Expand New Effects.

    Hi there,
Specs: as per Qosmio X 300. SSD 110GB, pentium core 4 extreme, 4 Gb RAM, plenty free storage on SSD (29GB), NVidia drivers with primary being GE Force 9800 M GTS, Direct X10.  there is also a note down the bottom saying that if i have linked graphic cards (whihc i do i believe there are three), that i can expect better perfomrance with some software.
Ok I aplogise from the outset, i am a layman and not that techie. K.  So the issue that I upgraded recently (last week) from vista ultimate 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit. ultimate.  For the main, I am reasonably happy with the outcome in most areas - except gaming that is. I have increased speed and agility and the processor is now rated at 7.2. WEI. overall the laptop is rated at 5.8. however, getting back to teh reason for writing, I have nothing negative to say about windows 7 (as compared to its predecessor) apart from wishing to resolve my game crash issue. which usually occurs about 15 mins - 20 mins into a game and comes in the form of a shutdown ? BSOD from whence the laptop reboots when prompted at on/off and wants to know if to start normally or in various safe modes. I have noticed that the laptop does become very hot at the back (around the fans) prior to teh shutdown, and i am wondering if this is an overheating issue, and how to resolve if this is the case. the only other thing i have noticed that seems untoward is that i have apparently lost a wireless jump start driver from the upgrading process which i cannot find anywherre, and may be totally unrelated to this issue anyway.
All i want to do is play the games i could play on windows vista ultimate 64 bit. these include: Sims 3, sims 3 world adventures, sims 3 ambitions, highloft end stuff, and Bioshock. Oddly enough, i have played sid meyers civillisations revolutions IV (the latest one) with no crashes, and i havent tried ANNO 1404, but fear a similar fate may await this game as some of the others.
    Addditional information:
everything is as i described it above, however the screen does not go blue but black, and the laptop shuts itself down,  laptop acts as if hibernating mode? (these are guesses) or some mechanism geared at preventing over heating - the back becomes very hot.  the machine can be rebooted from normal mode but comes up firstly with a screen suggesting that the laptop was incorrectly shutdown, and offers options as to safe mode, normal etc. i have been starting normally with no adverse effects.   This is scenario one.
scenario two ends up similarly at teh reboot stage, but gets there differently. i play the game and the screen freezes, unable to move touchpad curser, unalbe to use ctrl alt del to get up task manager. end up having to crash to reboot.
I am quite frustrated and very reluctant to mess around with things that i dont understand (dont want to make the problem worse!). I am happy to attemtpt to follow your good explicit advice.
the only other negative thing i am expereinceing is screen flicker on internet. I have changed my power mode from high performance to balanced to try to nullify the overheating issue but i now am noticing this screen flicker which is irriating and appears on keystroke, or cursor movement.
Please note well:  I am a layman, not a technician! Please explain in easy to (dummy) terms! Thanks!
    kind regards

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
