Photoshop CS5 Performance Problems with Optional Extension Plug-ins Installed

If you installed any of the Optional Extension Plug-ins in Photoshop CS5 (they aren't a part of a default installation of Photoshop CS5) - we determined that some users have had serious performance issues due way these Optional Extension Plug-ins were installed on Mac systems.
We have created the following knowledge base document to help users determine if they are affected by the use of these plug-ins. The document contains instructions on how to remove the plug-ins and restore your Photoshop prefs:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/889/cpsid_88974.html
Note: It's important to both remove the plug-ins and restore your Photoshop prefs in order to get back to a 'good' state.

  • Can't Install CS5 Optional Extensions Plug-ins

I installed PS CS5. Works fine. But I've been trying to install the Optional Extensions Plug-ins so I can get the Twain plug-in, allowing me to scan in PS. The installer keeps saying "You do not have the appropriate permissions required to perform this operation. Contact your system administrator to obtain permission."
I'm the admin of my one computer.
    I've repaired Disk Permissions.
I've gone to many folders to make sure that everything has read/write permission.
I've spent a lot of time on the phone with Adobe who's stumped and say it's not their fault. They directed me to Apple who of course would charge me.
Anyone run into this? Any ideas?
    Thanks very much.

I was having the same issue. The remedy is to change the permissions on the application's folder.
Go to Applications, Select Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Get Info.
Unlock the settings, and under Sharing & Permissions, change every option to Read & Write. Select the little gear underneath and choose 'Apply to enclosed items'
Should fix your problem. I went through all the folders and checked to see if their permissions had changed too, just in case. I've had no further problems.

  • Problem with 3rd Party Plug-Ins

I am running Logic Pro 7 and recently a majority of my 3rd party plug-ins quit working. When I try to load the plug-ins or open a song that uses the plug-ins, Logic unexpectedly quits. Some of the plug-ins that cause the problem are:
    Spectrasonics Trilogy and Atmosphere
    Plugsounds PS01-06
    Ueberschall BPM120 and PLP120
    Native Instruments Kompakt
This has happened before, but for some reason within two or three weeks, they just magically started working again. I could use an update on my OS (10.3.9) and some updates are available for the plug-ins, but why wouldn't everything continue to work as it had if nothing has changed? And is this absolutely necessary because I'd rather not because I'd have to update everything.

Did you update or change ANYTHING on your system? I've learnt that once I have a stable system, DONT upgrade unless you HAVE to, as updated plugins are designed to work on the most recent software, and sometimes dont get tested and/or work with "older" systems.
However, if you have not changed anything and are getting these problems, the most likely cause is either song corruption (though you said this is happening on multiple songs, so I doubt thats the problem) or preference corruption, which happened to me just a few months ago. Dont ask me how things get corrupted, but when they do you start to experience random weirdness. For example, recently all my songs stared giving me "memory errors" on stuff that use to playback fine. Once I rebuilt my preferences, every was stable again.
Here is a link to troubleshooting tips created by Bee Jay (a wise poster here). Follow them and they should fix your problems:
    http://logicquicktips.blogspot.com/2006/10/troubleshooting-logic.html
Note: if you created any custom key commands for logic, do not trash your old preferences, as you can import your key commands from this file. Check your manual under import key commands. Here is a link to the PDF of the manual, which is easier to search:http://www.apple.com/support/logic/
If you want to turn off your plugins just to see if they are at fault (though it sounds to me like song/prefs corruption, not plugin problems) use the AU
manager. I'm not in front of Logic right now, but I believe its under either the apple pulldown menu, or the file menu, or one of the other menus "up top."
(sorry for my bad description). If you still cant find it, let me know and I'll look it up, but as I said, this sound like a corruption issue and not an issue with your plugins.
    Best of luck!

  • Problem with 3rd party plug-ins - program sluggish

    Mac 10.8.8.5,  Photoshop CC
I have created a plug-in panel in Configurator 4 to be used in Photoshop CC. When the plug-in is loaded as a panel Photoshop starts acting sluggish and the shortcuts for Tools do not stick, they revert back to the originally selected tool. Switching between layers has a 1 second or more delay time.
When I restart Photoshop and keep my panel collapsed everything works as it should. As soon as I expand the panel, the above behavior returns. I have to restart Photoshop with the panel collapsed to have Photoshop work normally again.
When I restart the computer in Root mode and open Photoshop and expand the panels everything works normally. So it seems like something is being loaded in my User mode that is creating the problem. I just do not have a clue as to what that could be.
    Any Ideas - Sam

  • I am having problems with maybe my plug-ins are something, I have this computer a little b4 I retired and I'm an older person not all that knowledgelable like my children and grandchildren. When I try to recover r to open a link, it gives me nothing.

Please help me with logins,  I have been playing some games in the pogo, and a lot of times I get error occurred r with google and yahoo application.

    Hello,
Is there an exact error message when this happens?
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Photoshop cs5 is not appending file extensions

in previous versions, photoshop appended to the file extension in the fiel save/save as dialog box.  it no longer does this and when you save a file it does not append the file extension to the file name, resulting in unknown fiel type.
    i am running windows 7 64-bit with photoshp cs5.
it does not make any since to have the option of appending the file extension if the program is not going to do it.

Just tried this out on my Windows 7 64 bit system, and I get the same results using Photoshop.
When I save a file in Photoshop CS5 64 bit with the name 047. Crayon - Abstract the file is saved as 047. Crayon - Abstract without a file extension, no matter what document type I select in the drop-down.
In Word I get the expected result:
When I save a file in Word with the name 047. Crayon - Abstract the extension is automatically added (047. Crayon - Abstract.docx)

First, have you installed all the updates for photoshop cs5 by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs5?
The automated installer only installs the following plugins:

  • Photoshop CS5 Motion Problems

I own the 64 bit version of Adobe photoshop CS5. The motion option I'm talking about resides at the top right-hand corner.
Today, I was making an animation; I drew all the frames as layers in the 'painting' mode first. I had the fx option on for all frames (outer glow). I then switched to 'motion' mode, and made frames from layers to test the animation.
It ran smoothly, but it didn't look right near the end bit, so I stopped the animation and then corrected that frame.
Big mistake. The fx glow refused to adhere to the new shape of the image in that frame. The glow continues to outline the part that I'd erased off. The new part I drew in is not covered by the glow.
I've experienced problems like this when entering and exiting Photoshop's motion mode before (other than today). I don't understand it. Is it because the motion mode destroys coding, which causes it to turn out like this? I have tried saving, exiting and reopening the file. Nothing works. The glow still exists around the part of the image that is no longer there. Meanwhile, the part of the image that I added in is not outlined by the glow. As anyone who has used the fx option before should know, the glow appears around the new part being drawn drawing whenever you draw something in the layer. It's stopped doing so on this particular layer ever since I exited motion mode.

I think I might have found the problem. The eraser tool seems to have changed the layer's colour to the background colour, rather than having
deleted the colour from the layer. So instead of having a transparent section where I'd erased things, I was left with a black shape (the same colour as the background). That's why the glow wouldn't go away; the shape was still there, just invisible by contrast.
So I have a new question. How did I get my brush to do this? The brush sometimes seems to erase perfectly well by deleting the colour in the frame. Other times it does a weird trick (like this occasion) and substitutes the colour in the layer with the background colour, making it look like it's done its job when it's just pulled a colour substitution for the background colour. What settings control whether it does one or the other?

  • Performance problem with Mavericks.

Performance problem with Mavericks. My Mac is extremly slow after upgrading to Mavericks. What can i do to solve that?

If you are still experiencing slow down issues, it maybe because of a few other reasons.
Our experience with OS X upgrades, and Mavericks is no exception, is that users have installed a combination of third party software and/or hardware that is incompatible and/or is outdated that causes many negative performance issues when upgrading to a new OS X version.
Your Mac's hard drive maybe getting full.
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Commercial Antivirus software can slow down and negatively impact the normal operation of OS X.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac? These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Your Mac may have way too many applications launching at startup/login.
Your Mac may have old, non-updated or incompatible software installed.
Your Mac could have incompatible or outdated web browser extensions, plugins or add-ons.
Your Mac could have connected third party hardware that needs updated device drivers.
It would help us to help you if we could have some more technical info about your iMac.
If you so choose, please download, install and run Etrecheck.
Etrecheck was developed as a simple Mac diagnostic report tool by a regular Apple Support forum user and technical support contributor named Etresoft. Etrecheck is a small, unobstrusive app that compiles a static snapshot of your entire Mac hardware system and installed software.
This is a free app that has been honestly created to provided help in diagnosing issues with Macs running the new OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
It is not malware and can be safely downloaded and installed onto your Mac.
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Copy/paste and post its report here in another reply thread so that we have a complete profile of your Mac's hardware and installed software so we can all help continue with your Mac performance issues.
    Thank you.

  • How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D?

How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D? I don't want to by this product again and again...

In what way is ACR not working in Bridge?  Is there no right-click Open in Camera Raw available from Bridge, or there is, but the ACR version is less than ACR 6.7.1 or what exactly is the issue?
Also, if you open Photoshop and do Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw, is ACR missing from the list, or if not, what version does it say is installed?
You might also want to describe what methods you have tried to correct the issue, since saying you've tried what you've seen posted and they didn't work, isn't really much to go on.

  • Photoshop CS5 not working with Lucida Grande Regular font

On my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, I am running OS 10.6.7.
When using Photoshop CS5, if I try to use the font, Lucida Grande Regular, it causes an error.
"Could not use the type tool because of a program error."
When I try to open an existing file that has type layers that include the font Lucida Grande Regular, Photoshop will not open the file. I have several of these files that I want to use. I can open them on another Macintosh and everything works fine.
First I get a message window that says, " Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update these layers now?" I click on update and then get the following message. "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
I have updated Photoshop CS5 to the latest version, 12.0.4.
I have run the FontTest.jsx script and it shows an error for Lucida Grande Regular.
(IOError: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop.
    - <no additional information available>)
The other 100+ fonts on my machine did not create errors.
Since Lucida Grande Regular is an essential font for Mac OS X, I re-installed OS 10.6 in order to have a new version of Lucida Grande Regular. After that re-install I am having the same problems with the font not working in Photoshop.
It also does not work with Adobe InDesign CS5. The font does work in Microsoft Word.
The program Font Book verifies Lucida Grande Regular.
Other fonts including, Lucida Grande Bold, work fine in Photoshop and InDesign.
What can I do to get Photoshop CS5 to work with Lucida Grande Regular?

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread. This problem has been dogging me for years, and it's so sporadic that I've been afraid of breathing the wrong way lest I somehow incur that diabolical Program Error dialog. I'd managed to reach a truce with Photoshop CS5, getting it into a barely working state, and avoiding all updates... until Lion came along today. Then I updated to CS5 12.0.4, and the Program Errors were back again.
Now I see that the problem does seem to be related to the Lucida Grande font. If there's a layer with that font in it, not only can I not edit that text, but I can't marquee select anything, nor drag any shapes. Deleting caches and massaging fonts are completely ineffectual measures... but if I delete the Lucida layers entirely, we're back in business.
    At least so far.
Funny to think that of all the innovations I'd like to see Photoshop adopt, the fixing of this one issue is the thing I'd like to see most. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread, and any updates by Mr. Cox.

  • Photoshop CS5 Cursor Problem

I'm having a problem with my cursors since I installed CS5 - they still work in CS3, so I don't really know how to resolve it. Whenever I make my brushes larger than, say, 400px, I lose all cursor definition and can't find the center of my cursor. I have tried  uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't do anything to change the result. If the brush selected is about 1000px, I can use it and it retains it's shape; it seems to be between 400px and 800px of size that I lose it. I can regain it by pressing alt or ctrl, sometimes, but as soon as I move off the working canvas I lose it again and it's really just tiresome.
I've checked around and someone's suggested it's a driver issue, but I'm not running the same graphics card as they were so I can't seem to find a solution. I know it's a problem with NVIDIA, but has anyone encountered it with the Intel 45 Express Chipset? If so, is there a fix? It's driving me mad.

It may be that your graphics adaptor is not up to the demands of CS5.
Is OpenGL greyed out in Preferences > Performance?  If not de-select it.
And it wouldn't hurt to see if there is a driver update on the manufacturer's web site.

  • Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform

Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform
(not tested on Windows, might be the same)
After refactoring using the new features from java 1.5 I lost
    performance significantly:
    public Vector<unit> units;
    The new code:
    for (unit u: units) u.accumulate();
runs more than 30% slower than the old code:
    for (int i = 0; i < units.size(); i++) units.elementAt(i).accumulate();
    I expected the opposite.
Is there any information available that helps?
