Photoshop CS6 brush lag?

Hello,
I have had cs6 for quite some time now, and today, my brushes started lagging pretty badly, especially the ones that I love to paint with the most. I have tried:
- disabling openGL
- turning off "use graphics processor"
- allocating more mb to memory usage
- changing from advanced to basic in graphics processor settings
- updating
- restarting
- increasing cache levels and tile size
- Trying to see if photoshop cs5 does the same thing (it does)
- turning off all other background programs
About the only thing I can do to get it to lag less is increase spacing of the brush, which I refuse to do, as the brush looks horrible when doing this. It lags much more when the brush size is large, but the lag still continues even when it's small. I always work in 300dpi because I cannot make professional prints with 72dpi images. I also work in 8.5" x 11". Strangely it hasn't been doing this until today, when I opened it and it gave me a strange error message. All it seemed to have done, however, was reset all my preferences, when I returned to what they were before. I'm getting frustrated and needless to say, I've lost creativity for the day. Here are my specs.
Windows 7 home premium service pack 1.
AMD FX 6100 six core processor   3.58ghz
8 gb of ram DDR3
64 bit OS
AMD Radeon HD 6670
Asus m5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard
I believe that is all, if there's anything I'm missing or you want to know, just ask.

ShelbyHughes wrote:
the drivers for the AMD Radeon HD 6670 are up to date…
That may be the case (or not), but you cannot rely on Windows update, Micriosoft or a system builder to tell you there are "no updates available"; all of those are very, very often outdated.
Update your video drivers only from the website of the manufacturer of your video card.

    PHOTOSHOP CS6 GRANDEZZA PENNELLO
    avete qualche soluzione?

who is dear to me solve my problem?
usually my quick way to reduce or enlarge the diameter of the brush (for example, if I am acting on a layer mask) is ctrl + alt and move the mouse to the left / right. in other cases, act directly on the board brush.
as you will see from the photo is the range of the exponential scale of the brushes in photoshop CS6 and so it is unmanageable. working with large photos interests me especially the last part, and then I would like the scale from 0 to 5000 px grow evenly (for example there is now a 84 px there were 2500 px).
    you have any solution?

  • Photoshop CS6 bugs + lagging ??

My Photoshop CS6 is having problem, not really a big problem but it gets very irritating when especially on urgent work.
Below is my Photoshop CS6 Problem:
I have 4 buttons not listening to my order, maybe more but so far I only found 4. ( "B" for brush, "E" for eraser and "[" for reducing brush and "]" for enlarging brush )
OK, when after I press "B" for painting, OK fine, everything works fine...BUT....when I want to erase, I press "E", the cursor is not changing into eraser tool, the cursor still display in the brush tool mode, and the same goes for all 4 buttons above.
I have no solutions yet so far, what I do now is, after I press "B", I will have to click my mouse again at least once on anywhere of my workspace to turn the cursor from eraser mode into brush mode.
How to solve this problem? someone please help and thanks.

Hi Chris, good that you reply so quickly.
Ok, I have been using Photoshop CS4 for 1 year plus and I was very satisfy with that product, no complaints at all. << Good product Adobe Photoshop CS4  !
Now, when I got my new IMAC (see specs below) nearly a year ago together with new Photoshop CS6, this Photoshop CS6 LAGGINGS problem torturing me since.
What else about your system could be causing lag? I only use Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, VLC Player, Sketchup, Skype, Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, that about all Video card driver? see my specs below Something else computing in the background or actively using the hard disk?  Nothing
What other application or utility are you using that intercepts those specific keys? I desperately want to find out too

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush Tool is acting weird.

    Hey yall.
I have photoshop cs6 and my brush tool is acting really weird. It's stuck at 100% hardness, and It's not even the normal hardness that the brush does.
I have tried resetting the tools. Even gone as far as uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop. It's still doing it. I have no idea what I can do to fix it. Any idea how?
Here is a screen capture video to show what is going on. If anyone can recognize the problem???? Help please???

    Hi,
It looks like you have the Pencil Tool selected instead of the Brush Tool.
Click and hold on the pencil tool icon in the toolbox to see the other hidden tools in that slot.

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush Preset Picker Problem

    Hello
I'd like to know if it's possible to tidy up my PSCS 6 Brush Preset Picker?  Please see image.
My brushes are installed here:  C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64bit)/Presets/Brushes
I can't seem to find any other location that would be causing this issue.  It's only happened since I installed CS6.
Thanks for any help or advice
    Diane

Thanks for the response.  I realise there are duplicates.  My question is how do I delete the duplicates from the picker?  They're aren't duplicates in the actual folders.  I've also organised the brushes into folders, restarted photoshop, rebooted and the problem is the same.
Anyone know where the duplicates might be located on my pc? Or how to delete them in the picker?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS3 brush lag

I have just reinstalled  Xp home  OS system in addition to
reinstalling Photoshop CS3 The brush tool seems to be lagging when doing any kind of work.Especially when
I am using masks and painting in with the brush for different levels of exposures on photos. It is not smooth and it is very hard to get it blended correctly with this problem  I have never had this
problem before. I am wondering if I need to set something or change a setting. Thank you in advance for input on this,

Thank you for responding to my question on the adobe forum, I was having the problem
before I did the new install. Before I installed the new os I  reinstalled Photoshop to see if
that would correct the problem. It did not work and I was having other problems with the computer so I
decided to reinstall the operating system and everything including all of the drivers ect.
At this point I was thinking that it was Photoshop problem and I wanted to see if anyone on the forum had any advice.
    Thanks again for you help

  • Photoshop CS4 brush lag with wacom tablet

I've upgraded to photoshop CS4 extended recently and all my brushes that worked fine under CS3 are now with a real lag.
I've installed the latest version of photoshop ( Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update ) and the latest update for my wacom tablet, but the lag remains.
My computer is a new "24 imac:
    -  2,66 GHz intel Core 2 duo processor
    -  4 GB memory
    -  NVIDIA GeForce 9400
I use my tablet and photoshop a lot, but with this lag it's terrible to draw..
Is there someone who can help me with this or has the same problems ?
    thanks in advance

Glad I could be of service.
Speaking of services, if you are running Vista or Windows 7 (not XP) you should turn off tablet services too. They automatically start if you install a Wacom driver on these Os'es, and they can also cause hiccups and lag in Photoshop CS4.
You have to be logged in with admin privleges.
    Go to Control Panel->System and Security->Administrative Tools->Services
    Open 'Tablet PC Input Service'
Stop the service and select 'Disabled' as the startup type.
You'll know you got it because the annoying 'ripple' effect will go away when you touch the pen to the tablet, and the pop-up keyboard will go away. Of course, if you actually are running on a tablet PC then don't do this.

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush pressure sensitivity not working on the Microsoft Surface Pro.

I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro in anticipation of running Photoshop on it.  I installed Photoshop and tried to do some sketches.  I created a new file and started sketching.  I Immediately felt like something was wrong.  I checked my brush settings and saw the pressure sensitivity was not available.  Everytine I tried to turn it on it was marked with an exclamation point.
Does anybody know if Adobe is supporting the new pressure sensitive pen from microsoft, or if there is some sort of setting that I am missing?  I have tried sketchbook pro 2011, and that works amazingly well with the pen.  I hope someone can help me along here, because if this tablet can truely run photoshop, it would be a Game Changer.

Just curious.... has any of you tried the shape dynamics in photoshop and turning on pen pressure?
and in illustrator to modify the size to pressure and variation to maximum? (and of course select that brush preset that you just modified and draw with it using SHIFT+B for blob brush or B for regular brush)
I am also interested in purchasing a Surface pro so please report if this helps.
what I recently discovered in other forums is that Sketchbook Pro works flawlessly in desktop mode. Sketchbook Express in the APP mode doesn't support pressure yet.
there is no official confirmation that the surface pro uses a wacom digitizer, however a few artist friends of mine have gone to the microsoft store... brought their own wacom pens (cintiq 15x pen - older models that works with general tabletpcs) and the pro recognized it. which means that it is a wacom digitizer. it wouldn't make sense if a wacom pen works with a different digitizer board like N-trig.
also read in another forum about adobe using wintab and windows 8 wintab drivers are not there yet.
anyway... I'd be glad to know if this works or not
    thanks!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 has lag time

Currently, we have a new system purchased from Dell. Here is hardware specification.
Dell Precision T3610 (CPU: Intel (R) Xeon [email protected] (4 Cores)
    500GB SSD drive
    32GB memory
    Windows 7 x64 (SP1) Professional
    NVDIA Quadro K4000 video card.
After we install CS6 on this machine and we find the following items that not working smoothly and has few seconds delay.
    1. Moving my curser over menu items - takes awhile for each line to highlight
    2. No automatic flyouts from menu items
    3. Type a line of text and it takes 3-5 seconds for text to appear
    4. Marquee over something takes 1-2 seconds for marquee to show up
    5. When I click a point with my pen tool there's a moments hesitation before the point shows up.
Not sure if that video card driver issue? Or, the setting on Photoshop?
    Any suggestion will appreciate.

  • Photoshop CS6 brushes not performing as standard

Trouble with painting project with fifteen layers so far. Using CS6 from Cloud.  Essentials set to painting mode. Painting in solid black on white bg creates a translucent grey about 20% of solid black.  I am painting top layer with 100% black with solid round basic brush but cannot achieve full strength color. Layer position is arranged on top. Brush settings: Size 100%  Flow 100%: Jitter & spacing - zero.  Maximum hard, Result = grey.
As a test trial I created a new canvas with white bg and hard round brush set 100% size & flow. It paints solid black without a problem.
Conclude that there is something not right in layered project.  Any ideas?

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
Do you mean »Opacity« when you state »Size«?

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush Manager does not show all the default brushes

The brush panel shows all the default brushes, but the Brush Presets panel and the Brush Preset Manger do not, intact the last brush that they show is "100 Rough Round Bristle". it only shows the first 67 at max... if you delete anything before the 100 Rough Round, that becomes the new default number. It's like the rest of the brushes don't exist. Although I can select them in the Brush Panel.
If I want to load any other brush set, it over writes any brushes that appear after "100 Rough Round Bristle".
Need some serious help as my workflow is being severely hampered.
    Cheers!

  • Do I need a dedicated graphics card for my laptop if I mainly use Photoshop CS6 to paint?

I'm looking to buy a laptop and having a dedicated graphics card is obviously more expensive, but is it necessary for painting on Photoshop CS6 without lagging? I use a lot of layers, adjustments, masks, and large brushes, but that's mostly it, also I don't spam the undo button.

    havnor wrote:
I use a lot of layers, adjustments, masks, and large brushes, but that's mostly it
LOL, those are very compute-intensive operations.  That's basically saying "I need the most powerful computer I can find" to run Photoshop.
It's hard to generalize an answer to your specific question, because not all GPUs or systems are created equal.  If I had to generalize, I'd say you should try to avoid DUAL GPU systems, in which an Intel and some other brand are combined to try to deliver power saving and high performance capabilities.  Photoshop traditionally doesn't really like that kind of arrangement, and forum members often advise folks with dual GPU systems who are experiencing problems to just disable one of them (usually the lesser one) anyway.
Keep in mind that a laptop isn't going to be able to achieve as good performance as a desktop for a resource hungry application like Photoshop, yet will be more expensive.  You really will want a high-end machine (possibly even mobile workstation class) to paint in the manner you describe.
I invite others who use modern laptops to chime in here and relate their actual experiences, as well as provide information on their specific configurations.

  • A possible fix for brush lag in Photoshop CS6.

I was getting brush lag for a few days after installing CS6. every 4 or so normal brush strokes, the brush would start to lag. And after a few lagging strokes it would go back to normal and then repeat itself.
The first thing I did was delete the workspaces that I never use (I doubt that fixed the problem).
Second thing I did was turn the cache levels to 1 and set image previews to "never save" (found this tip online, didn't fix the lag problem but I still kept those settings anyway).
The third thing (and what I believe fixed the problem) was going to "performance" in photoshop, clicking on the advanced settings for your graphics processor and turning the drawing mode from advanced to basic.
I never had to do this on cs4 which is why it took a few days of tinkering around to fix the problem. But if anyone else is having this problem go ahead and give it a try. Hope it helps.

Apple is not immune from releasing flawed drivers.  They get them from ATI just like PC users do.
Assuming your CPU power is sufficient you would not expect to see a difference in operation.  Certain operations, for example color management transforms, are executed in the CPU rather than the GPU in Basic mode.

  • Photoshop cs6 lags on macbook pro retina 15'

Recently I got my hands on photoshop cs6 but my brush lags quite a bit while using it. This happens when I'm zooming in to do minor details or if I'm using a brush more than 200
I've heard good things about design production on macbooks but so far I've seen the opposite. Is there anyway to solve the brush lag problem from Apple's end?

I am using a student version which is running atm on a windows 7 64 bit macbook pro retina 15. The best thing i can try doing is downgrade to CS5. Though i'm positively sure if I installed photoshop less than a few weeks ago, it would be at the latest...
