Photoshop elements 10 hangs

The software for Sony VAIO VPCF 132  which is over a year old has developed a problem where it hangs on one page rendering the software useless.  How can it be repaired  or must it be replaced ?

The editor prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst double clicking on PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
Click on Yes
Close down Elements and re-open it in the normal way - then wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.

  • Camera RAW and Elements Hang during Thumbnail Generation...

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Camera Raw, I have been having issues with Photoshop Elements hanging while automatically generating thumbnails, anyone else notice this issue?
Hang is not quite the right description... So I import a batch of pictures and PSE starts processing the files ("Generating Thumbnails" is in the tool bar at the bottom). After a few images are processed, it just stops. If I try to force an update of the thumbnail ("Update Thumbnail" option under the Edit menu), a broken image just come back. No mater what I do, it just sits there and will not resolve the thumbnail issue until I close out PSE and go into task manager and make sure that the task is killed.
On the other hand, while I can not get the thumbnails generated, I can go into the Editor with a raw image and it opens in Camera Raw without any problems.
Anyone else having similar issues? Know anything to try?
    * Yes I have the most recent version of Camera Raw. When I downgrade to an older version of Camera Raw, the issue seems to go away.
    * I can not use the old version all the time because I have a Nikon D300, which is only supported in the newest version. I confirmed the working of things with some of my D200 files.
    * I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0, mainly for organization of all my images because I take a lot of them.
    * I am doing this on a Windows XP x64 machine
    * Based on a post someplace, I did check that my default printer on my machine is set to a printer that is always on the machine (PDF writer) and not a network printer/printer that has been disconnected.
Thank you for any help/suggestions that anyone can give me...
    -Matt

Have you tried the Elements forum?
Not many visitors here have Elements, mostly PSCS and Bridge.
If you where using Bridge I would suggest to purge cache and or refresh the preferences but I have no clue if this is possible in Elements? :-(
    Edit:
Do you have enough RAM installed, generating thumbnails from RAW can take a lot of energy from the OS...

  • Why is Photoshop elements 12 is freezing in OS X Yosemite?

I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite.  Now, when I use Photo Elements 12 (PSE12), the programs freezes and I'm forced to "Force Quit."  This freezing/hanging occurs when I use the clone stamp or brush tool.. A quick search online reveals that other are having this same problem (Links below).  Is there any help out there?? Please!

    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/photoshop-elements-hangs-i n-yosemite

I just discovered, after prowling around in the Adobe users website, that the problem is probably in the trackpad.  At their suggestion, I plugged in an old mouse, and voilà, Photoshop Elements 12 icons all work!  **** of a solution, but at least it's a workable work-around.

  • Upgraded my mac to yosemite, currently have photoshop elements 12, it wont work with yosemite.  is there a free upgrade to make 12 work with yosemite version 10.10

recently upgraded to mac OS10 yosemite version 10.10
my photoshop elements 12 is not working with this os
is there an upgrade so elements 12 will work?

Photoshop elements 12 should work on mac os x 10.10
    Have you updated to 10.10.1
Also, if you upgraded with pse 12 already installed, it's a must that you do the steps shown on the following page:
    http://barbarabrundage.com/2014/10/17/a-reminder-for-mac-folks-upgrading-to-yosemite/

  • Is Photoshop Elements 11 compatible with OSX Yosemite?

I want to know whether or not I should install the new OSX Yosemite update. I won't install the update if Photoshop Elements 11 isn't compatible with it. I've looked online and I can't find any reference to this yet, so I thought I should ask. Does anybody know? Also, if it isn't going to be compatible, will my .psd files that I created using Photoshop Elements 11 be compatible with other, newer Photoshop programs?

I've looked online and I can't find any reference to this yet
    Really? Try:
Photoshop Elements doesn't respond when you use editing tools in Mac OS X 10.10
    and
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/photoshop-elements-hangs-in-yosemite
for starters. So no, not entirely compatible. I would hold off on 10.10 if you want to keep using PSE 11 until at least 10.10.1 and then wait to see if it fixes the problems. In any case, the Graphic Novel and Comic filters have been making PSE crash since 10.9, so you'd lose those, at least, even if the other problems get fixed.

I recently bought, from the original website of Adobe, Photoshop elements 13. However, when I go with my mouse pointer over the menu, It hangs or he works very slow. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix it? I have already downloaded updates, both from Adobe and Windows. I have a new pc with window 8.1.

It could be a coincidence, but I rebooted the machine and (knock on wood) PSE13 seems to be working ok.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 running in Windows 8.1 hangs immediately after starting

Photoshop Elements 13 running in Windows 8.1 hangs immediately after starting.  Has to be shut down by Task Manger.  Task Manger shows that it is still using some CPU.  Ran Procmon (part of Sysinternals) which shows that it is in a loop.   Stack trace shows it is executing code in AMTValidateProductLicense.dll.  Started happening about a month after I installed PSE.  Everything used to work fine at first.  Have tried going back to an old image of Win 8.1 on a different hard drive, otherwise same computer, and installed PSE 13 from DVD.  That installation never worked, it aways hangs.  If I do a clean boot, it sometimes runs long enough for me to click on a menu item and then hangs the same way.  And, yes I bought a new DVD to run on this computer, never been used in any other way.  Any ideas how I can get PSE running properly?

It really doesn't look like a licensing issue, it seems to be code in the area of license validation that isn't working.
I took your suggestion and initiated a couple of chat sessions with support, but so far still no luck.  The latest session with Neeraj seemed to be promising.  After some investigation he asked to reinstall.  First he uninstalled with Revo Uninstall, which seemed to be pretty thorough.  That required a restart, so he set things up to restore his conference session and took my phone number.  Unfortunately I guess his connection didn't come back.  When I didn't hear from him after a couple of hours I tried installing Photoshop and Premiere myself.  As before, Premiere works and Photoshop doesn't.  When I start Photoshop, the window opens and for a couple of seconds menus open when I click on them.  Then the window freezes and I have to use Task Manager to kill it.  So basically, I've tried several things but I'm back where I've been all along, I can't get Photoshop to work.  I'd really appreciate suggestions about something else to try.
I wish someone at Adobe was interested in the Process Monitor traces I've made, because I'm sure someone who knows the code would be able to figure out pretty quickly what's happening.  Is it trying to read a file that's not there, failing to write a file, failing to make an internet connection or what?  It really shouldn't be this hard to figure out.

  • Photoshop Elements 5.0 organizer hangs

I have been using Elements 5.02 for a quite a while, especially the Organizer. However, a couple weeks ago it hangs whenever I try to open the organizer.
I've tried many things but no luck in extracting the catalog information. Things I've tried:
    - Uninstalled and reinstalled. Downloaded and installed 5.02 update. Still hangs when opening Organizer.
    - When opening, pressed the CTRL key, instructed it to compact and recover. It says it completed succesfully but it still hangs.
    - When opening, pressed the CTRL key and basically created a new catalog file. Organizer successfully opened. Attempted to restore
my previous backup. It was a full backup. All the pictures were restored but when Organizer opens, it hangs again.
    So my questions are:
    - On the drive where my photos are restored, I see the My Catalog.psa file (23,298 KB), along with a My Catalog.ldb file. In the C:
\ProgramData\Adobe\Catalogs there is also a My Catalog.psa file but only 752 KB. Seems like my data is there but for some reason it
is not being restored properly. Can you provide any suggestions to have the Organizer extract the data from the backed-up catalog
    - Are there any tests to figure out if my backed-up catalog is corrupted? Should I attach my catalog for you to examine its health?
-When restoring a backup, is it possible to only do the catalog and not all the photos?
    Thanks,
    Stephen
    Operating System: Windows Vista

    johnny,
I noticed that you posted both here and in the Premiere Elements forum. Since you said that you could play the first DVD that you created on your TV DVD player, that means that you would have created that first DVD from Premiere Elements or some other DVD auhtoring software. This is because Photoshop Elements does not create a DVD for play on a TV.
So I recommend that you go up one level from this thread, so that you are at the level of the "Photoshop Elements Technical Issues" forum and use the "Add Topic" function to start your own thread
    Then in your new thread,
    1) please post a description of which options you chose when you did the
    b Output
command from the photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor
    Did you choose
    -- Send to Premiere Elements?
    -- Burn to a DVD ?
-- create a File that is a .wmv file type?
    2) Use Windows Explorer to examine each of these DVDs. What are the folders contained on the DVD that will play on the TV? And what are the folders on the DVD that will not play on the TV?
    3) What brand of DVDs did you use? And are they +R or -R?

  • Organizer in Photoshop Elements 8 hangs

I have PhotoShop Elements 8 (boxed DVD) installed on a HP Elite desktop with Intel i-core 7 processor with Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system. The PSE 8 organizer will not load and hangs up. The editior, however, loads. Unistalled and reinstalled the software and the results are the same. Any suggestions. I have also asked for support at ADOBE technical support.

I see you were able to help someone that was experiencing Elements Organizer 8 hanging.  I tried going to your link, but couldn't get to the correct spot.  Maybe its changed?
I have Photoshop Elements 8.0 and Premier Elements 8.0. I was uploading photos to Shutterfly today when my computer went to sleep. When I brought the computer back I got a screen saying preparing Elements and all the pictures were visable. The screen was frozen. I couldn't stop it and so I proceeded with a Start / Shutdown.
Now after rebooting when it came to the Elements Welcome screen it said an error had occurred and wanted me to report it.
After several reboots I am unable to open Organizer. It seems to be going through start up process, but then just stops. The messages in the right hand corner say loading messages and then stop. I can open the Editor fine, but also can import images from Organizer or open Organizer from the Editor.
Same problems in Premier. Editor opens, but Organizer does not.
I have tried the suggestion of opening Organizer straight from the .exe file rather than the welcome window, but have the same issue as menitioned... I get a quick flash of the blue start up page and then its gone.
    - I have rebooted several times.
    - Uninstalled Quicktime - Adobe help menu said it could cause problems.
    - Deleted Temporary files.
    - Went to Services.msc and restarted the Adobe Active File Monitor v8
    - another page said to press CTRL/ALT/SHIFT while trying to open ORganizer from the Welcome Screen, but that also didn't work.
    NOthing has helped so far.
I'm sure hoping I can get this working without having to reinstall. I've done a lot of tagging of pictures and would hate to lose that.
PS:  I have been using Organizer just fine for many years without issue on the same computer.
    Thanks,
    BZ
Bingo! After several hours of trying different things, this finally did it...
    PSE 7: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408913.html
The PSE 7 tech note also applies to PSE 8 – replace 7.0 with 8.0 in the folder name it says to delete.
I deleted the folder "Photoshop Elements 8.0.0" found in this location:

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer/Editor Hanging on Startup

When I open Photoshop Elements 10 from the start menu, it takes about 3 minutes for the first welcome screen to appear. If I select to open the editor from the welcome screen, or by right-clicking a file in Windows Explorer and selecting 'Open with...Photoshop', the program opens, the image populates on the canvas, and within a few seconds the program hangs for about 3-5 minutes (fades out, title bar says (Not Responding)). I have tried adding 127.0.0.1 etc. to the host file, removing FastCore, MMX, and a third .8BX file I can't recall at the moment, opening with administrative privileges, and changing my default printer to a dummy local printer, to no avail. Has anyone had similar problems? I suspect the issue has something to do with the 'Initializing Main Interface...' item in the C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\10.0\Organizer\log.txt taking 168,000 units (ms?) of time to execute, but I'm not sure. Try renaming the folder "Elements Organizer" and "Online Services". These folder are present at C:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe for Win 7.
After renaming these folders, application should launch without crashing. For Win XP they are present at correponding location for current user.

  • Background Task on Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer "hangs"

I recently upgraded my software from Elements 10 to Elements 12 and had a bit of trouble.  Apparently both 10 and 12 have a way of launching an executable in the background which tends to get "stuck" on my system.  I believe the problem may be related to the network configuration and software mix I live with, but I need to confirm my suspecions and find a way to control the problem.  Here is what I know... I have always experienced a lot of problems using Elements with my NAS device which is a 1TB usb 2.0 connected disk system attached to my Linksys  E3000 Router.  When I got the router, the BIOS software did not correctly support NTFS file systems, but subsequent updates eventually made this possible if you formatted the removable drive on a system in NTFS, you could then hang it on the router and "see" the contents, serve them via Windows Media Player, or iTunes, etc., etc. from a computer atteched to the network, or via wirless directly off the router.  I archived all my photos out on this file system and have successfully indexed it for use with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer, but...  When I went to install Elements 12 software I tried to install it without first removing Elements 10, and on a system which had run Elements 10 since the last full reoboot.  During the install of 12 under "shared services install" the installation process "Hung" on a background task with a name like "AdobeElementsAnalyzer.exe" which only shows up in Windows 7 task manager as a running process, not as a full program, but because the file was locked by the system, the install hung.  I eventually figured out that I needed to start the install of Elements 12 software immediately after having rebooted so that this program was not present in the background, and succeeded in completing an install of Elements 12 on my Windows 7 X64 system.  This system required a "special" software download for Premiere Elements, but not for Photoshop Elements which is only apparently avaliable under 32bit emulation mode.  I finally got the "shared components" portion of the X64 Premiere Elements to complete an install, and then set about verifying the onversion/upgrade of the indexes to my photos and video stored out on the NAS.  The same rogue task which prevented me from doing the install showed up agian, taking all the system resources away from my dual processor Intel chip and refusing to let go.   I was forced to terminate it from the task manager.  I strongly suspect that my "issues" are in part due to the extrordinary network latency imposed by the drive connection I'm using to index my photos and videos, and I'm looking for a better approach to using the editors against my master catalog of files, as well as figruing out just what I need to do to insure that all the files I have stored on the drive are accessible by the organizer when I need to pull a copy to work on.
A complication is that I have two "legacy" Windows XP systems on my network, a reasonably fast Windows Vista Business desktop, and the Windows 7 X64 processor system which is the most powerful system I have.  The Windows file security enhancements to NTFS changed from XP, to Vista, to Windows 7, so files which get saved to the NAS disk inherit a variety of different levels of security under windows.  I have occasionally gone to one of my old XP boxes and "wiped" the security settings by resetting everything via Windows XP.  Because the NAS is so slow, this process can take several hours and must not be interrupted by attempts to do anything affecting the NAS by any of my other networked computers.  To avoid problems with my photo archive, it makes sense to me to do all my editing on copies which have been extracted from the NAS archive and stored on the C: drive (boot drive) of my Win X64 system.
What I seriously need to know is this:  When/If I define a "watched" portion of my file system, rather than taking the time to manually import every little change to my photo archives, can I expect the Photoshop Elements Organizer to work properly as long as everything stored on the NAS is stored via the same system which runs Elements with the same active "user" in control so that all the windows 7 file security settings putting stuff on the mapped NAS drive remain properly secured under Win 7 X64?  Frankly I don't care if the files appear "read only" to every other system and identity on my network, but I do need to be able to "see" them.  I have been able to view slide shows and movies stored on the NAS via both my networked iPad, my Apple TV, and using Samsung's funky android and Windows compatible software.  Frankly, I doubt that Microsoft or Apple has full understanding and control of the environment where there is no host "server" other than the eprom based stuff my Linksys E3000 loads to emulate early Windows Media Management architecture, but I mange to get it to work as long as I don't try anything sophisticated with the file permissions.   As a fall back, can I expect individual "imported" bits out on the NAS to remain stable if indexed and used only by the Elements Organizer running on my Win 7 X64 system?
I am seriously considering converting an old WinXP desktop into a UNIX box which could be configured as a "Server" for everything stored on the NAS and be done with my problems in return for the power required to run the server all the time so stuff is there when I need it.  Any recommendations?

Adobe hasn't said whether it officially supports PSE 7 on Windows 7.  But reports are starting to trickle in that PSE 7 works fine on Windows 7 for most people, though a couple people have reported crashes. My PSE 7 seems to work fine, though I primarily use PSE 8 now.  This is all very preliminary, and we'll learn more as more people post here.

  • Photo Downloader APD hangs freezes in Photoshop Elements 9 when camera or iphone 4S selected

I can't get any new images downloaded off my devices.  I usually do this with Photo Downloader in the Photoshop Elements 9 Organiser ... I go into Get Photos > from camera or card reader, then select the relevant device (iphone 4S or Canon 40D).  As expected it asks to select a device, whcih I do, but then it gets stuck on "connecting to devlce, please wait".  I first noticed this problem with my iphone 4S but have since not been able to download from camera either.
I am running Windows 7 with Photoshop Elements 9, using iphone 4S with latest version of software and latest itunes.
    I have tried:
I have updated the software from within elements (detected camera raw 6.5 needs updating; done) and the problem persists.
I have optimised/ repaired the catalog
There seem to be threads relating to hanging when you try to change the location in downloader.  That is not my problem.  Camera raw 6.5 seemed to cause the problem in that case.  Today I have just updated my elements software (it detected camera raw 6.5 required installation so I suppose I must have been running the previous version of camera raw).  Hence camera raw 6.5 not the problem in this case?  If it's relevant, a hard drive search detects camera raw.8bi 16 Sept 2011 19012kb in c:\programfiles\commonfiles\adobe\plugins\elements9 as well as camera raw.8BI with 8 Sept 2010 10179kb in c:\program files\adobe\adobe premiere elements 9\apd\photo downloader\plugins
This happened around the time I upgraded the iphone 4S software (friday 24 August 2012) to the latest version.
    Thanks for reading
    Kimberley

To check that the update installed correctly go to the Editor menu and click:
    Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
You should see a pop up with the version number.
    Press Esc to close.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 - takes over 4 minutes to load - hangs on "Scanning for plug-ins..."

Since mid-February 2014, having problems with both Photoshop Elements 10 and Photoshop CS4 extended (v 11.0.2) - both take around 4 minutes to load, when previously they loaded very quickly.
In Photoshop CS4 there is no activity on-screen for 2 minutes, then it hangs on the start up screen for another two minutes on "Scanning for plug-ins." Similar issue with Elements 10.
I am running on Windows 8.1, 64-bit. I also have Lightroom 5.4 installed.
Any help gratefully received, as this is driving me mad!

UPDATE: After having had my iPod plugged in for TWO HOURS, it has finally been detected by iTunes.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 - Organiser Hangs - XP

For the last couple of months, when I open the Organiser it just hangs and I have to force it to shut down. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

    John,
I tried running this. Here are the results:
    psedbtool version 1.03
    Opening catalog C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\Main\catalog.psedb
    Photoshop Elements version: 6
    Total files : 560
    Total files missing : 0
    Total files offline : 0
    PSE Volume Table
Path used by PSE : C:
    Status : online
    Total files : 560
    Total files missing : 0
    Description : C:
    Serial : 3CFF-D4D2
    Drive_path_if_builtin: C:
    Type : builtin_drive
    Id : 104
    Windows Drives
    Drive Type Serial Path
    A: removable_drive 0000-0000
    C: builtin_drive 3CFF-D4D2
    D: readonly_drive 0000-0000
Unfortunately, doesn't seem to shed any light. Main issue is that PSE only sees 560 jpg files, but I have many more that it won't import.
BTW, here's the error message that I get (most recently when trying to import a single jpg file that I know is not in the Catalog):
"Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this Catalog"

  • Catalog backup hangs at 8% calculating size (Photoshop elements 10)

I am trying to back up my catalog (+30,000 pics and video's ) to an external drive (full back up). The program starts calculating the size and then hangs at 8%.
The catalog was on another computer before and I moved it by making a backup (successfully) and restoring it on the new computer. After adding new files and tags I want to make a back up at the new location (unsuccesfully so far)
I searched the Internet and came across several similar cases, also with earlier versions of elements and this problem still doesn't seem to be solved by Adobe.
Of course I tried all steps mentioned in: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen ts.html without any results. The only step I didn't try was step 4 (Turn off Sync Agent). I could not find it in the menu (Elements 10, Dutch version).
I learned from several posts that the problem might be caused by damaged or not supported files.
But how can I find out which?
It feels a bit scary not to be able to back up and in the future I must be able to move my files to another computer again.
If anybody could help me? Thanks!

MarwanSati your install log appears to be free of errors.  I would recommend you post your inquiry about accessing this feature within the Photoshop Elements forum.
