Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer: Full screen view of lower quality than with PSE 10 and before?!

Upgrading from PSE 10 to 11, I noticed that when I watch my images with the organizer in PSE 11 in full screen view mode (F11), while the images load faster, they are shown in a lower quality than in PSE 10 or any other version of PSE that I owned before. In PSE 11, after the initial viewing in full screen (in the "fit screen" mode), when I click with the mouse on an image to display the "100%" view, there is a delay and the program says "Loading...", after which the 100% view in the full screen mode appears. When I then click another time with the mouse on the image to get back to "fit screen" mode, I get an image of better quality than during the initial view!
So it seems like the program first gives a faster, but lower quality view of the image in full screen mode, and only after the user requests a 100% view, it actually loads the image with full detail, which is then preserved when going back to the "fit screen" view. This is a serious issue for me, because I also use PSE organizer to present my pictures to other people, and I don't want to show them some lower quality versions of my images, but the full quality ones, without having to first choose "100% view" and then go back to "fit screen".
How can I make the PSE 11 organizer give me a full-quality full screen image right away, as this used to be the case in PSE10 and before?
(I have both versions, PSE 11 and PSE 10, now on the same computer and tested this to confirm that the PSE 11 initial full screen view is of lower quality than the PSE 10 one. Also in PSE 10, there is practically no delay for displaying the "100%" view afterwards, indicating that the image was loaded with full detail right away.)

- Update:
* Adobe's senior support level has replied to me about this issue as follows:
"Thank you for contacting Adobe.
When you press the F11 button, Organizer 11 uses the Bicubic
interpolation mainly because it is less processor intensive compared to
Bicubic Sharper, and it helps to create the preview on the fly, rather
than based on the thumbnail cache.
When you zoom out from the 100% view, Elements Organizer uses Bicubic
Sharper. This is because Bicubic Sharper is used for image reduction, so
if the 100% view is larger than the available screen space, it will need
to shrink. The Bicubic Sharper images may look more crisp however, Like
any sharpening algorithm, Bicubic Sharper introduces halos and
edge-enhancement artifacts. Those halos are typically slight, but any
further sharpening (which you'll need when preparing an image for print,
for example) will exaggerate them. This is expected behavior. The
Organizer isn't great for determining exact quality, I recommend you to
use Elements Editor for this purpose.
Thank you,
Bobby Johnson,
Adobe Technical Support."
* My reply on this to Adobe is:
"Hello Bobby,
thank you for your reply. Now at least we are talking about the same thing.
Why I am wondering about the choice to use the "Bicubic" algorithm when pressing F11 in PSE 11 is that all previous versions of PSE that I owned (which spans from PSE 6 to PSE 10) did use the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm right away when pressing F11. So apparently Adobe didn't worry about processor intensity of this algorithm then, and computers are getting all the time more powerful.
It is true that in some situations, the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may introduce halos and edge-enhancement artifacts, as you write. On the other hand, especially on smaller resolution screens, the results of the "Bicubic Sharper" algorithm may look more crisp and lively, while the ones of the "Bicubic" algorithm may look more flat and lack fine detail. This is not only my personal opinion, but as I have brought up this topic in several forums, I can see that I am not alone here.
So assuming that the question about preferring "Bicubic Sharper" or "Bicubic" as a default algorithm when pressing F11 is partly a matter of taste, and partly a matter of the hardware the user has available, why can Abobe not give the user an option to choose which one he/she would prefer? For instance, F11 gives full screen view with "Bicubic" applied, and CTRL+F11 with "Bicubic sharper"? Or make this an option in the preferences?
As I am using the PSE organizer also to present pictures to other people (and I know many people who use it that way too), I would like to show them my pictures as sharp and detail-rich as possible. Therefore, I would highly appreciate an option as described above to be implemented in the PSE 11 organizer via an update. It should be fairly easy from a programming point of view, since both algorithms are already contained in the program anyway."
* If you support this suggestion of mine as stated above, please also contact Adobe accordingly! The more support requests they get for this, the more likely it is that they will implement this update! You may mention my case number 0184046323 for reference.

  • Magnify/Zoom missing in Photoshop Elements 8 Organizer Full Screen Mode?

Am I missing something or has the abilty to magnify a picture been dropped from the full screen organizer mode in Photoshop Elements 8?
If so this is a serious regression. This means you can't zoom the picture up enough to examine the quality of multiple shots of the same subject. The only alternative is to go into full edit mode which takes a long time if you have any significant number of pictures.
Anyone figured a way around this?

Overall I like Full Screen view of 8th versio of Elements...
Here are all the things Adobe broke in PSE 8 Full Screen view:
    - With a larger catalog (12K files), it takes 16 seconds to open an image in Full Screen view, several times slower than in PSE 7.  (In Bridge and most other programs, it takes less than a second.)  This is due to a bug in PSE, where it needlessly accesses the catalog database tens of thousands of times.
    - With a larger catalog, when you first open Full Screen view, it loses keyboard focus.  So if you want to use the right-arrow key to move to the next pic, you must first use the mouse to click anywhere on the screen.
    - The settings for Toggle Quick Organize Panel and Toggle Quick Edit Panel are not sticky. So if you want to make them completely disappear so they don't overlap your beautiful photo (is is full screen view, after all), you have to toggle them off each time you enter the view.  This is a step back to PSA 1 and 2, which always floated a toolbar above your photo.
    - The tag cloud in the Quick Organize panel is completely useless if you have more than a dozen or two tags -- you'll be scrolling forever looking for a keyword in the flat list.
    - The Tag Media text box in the Quick Organize panel doesn't do auto-complete on tags you type, defeating the whole purpose of allowing text entry of tags (that is, making it quicker to select from among hundreds of tags).   The Keyword Tags text box in the Organize pane does auto-complete, but I guess the programmer for Full Screen view didn't bother to share that same code?  (Of course, the Keyword Tags text box is seriously buggy as well, but that's a different topic.)

  • IPhoto 11 window won't open, only have full screen view

After I upgraded, the iphoto window would not come up. The menu bar at the top is active, and I am able to access my photos from Full Screen View. But when I toggle back, and close full screen, everything closes...
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

On the View menu, I clicked "Full screen View", but then I couldn't find any way back to normal view. I had to Force-Quit Firefox to escape.

  • Elements 10 organizer Full Screen Previews

Hello, i have a question to ask about the full screen previews of very big photos in size (2mb and above 3000k + res or maybe even smaller) on 15.6 Inch laptop (not quite sure if it is related to my own screen size 1366x768 - i think it's not)
You see, if i go normaly into a folder and start a full screen preview of those same pictures i get them in what i think is a process of puting some AA to the picture so that even on a small screen i don't get the jaggies on the edges and overall bad quality. Quite the irony since the picture is in extremely good quality but viewed on a small res screen. Now i might be wrong about the AA but never mind i think you get the point what im talking about.
The problem is in elements organizer if i enter  the full screen preview big photos have those jaggies and are not applied with the AA i talked about earlier. A Funny thing is that when im not in the full preview the very same photos are in very good quality. Can i transfer that process to the full preview ? I really don't want to view my photos in windows default preview. Also if in full screen i try to zoom those pictures i get some nice choopy slowdowns on my i3-370M 2,4GHz, 4GB ram DDR3 and AMD 6550M HD in Win7 64 bit. Strange since i don't have those in windows default but maybe that related to all the processing you can apply to the picture when viewing it in organizer so it's not a big deal.
To put it simple is there any option so that i can view my albums in organizer (full screen) with the quality of a normal preview. Thanks very much.

Thanks for a quick answer but that doesn't work for me. I see the actual shortcut to the full screen view and edit is F11. I used mouse or a button earlier. If i use F11 on one photo or more it's still the same image quality. I did a little comparision and even in the normal preview there is a difference with the windows normal preview. Let me show you i did 2 screenshoots:
This is the Elements Organizer 10 Preview :
    http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1997/elementspreview.png
    This is the Windows Preview:
    http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/5016/windowspreview.png
You see how the second picture is more blured than the first one. Now i know that for editing the actual pixels and sharper more crisp image is better, but for viewing (showing albums to my family ) is more better if blured and the picture looks great no matter it's size. Can this be made possible within the Elements Organizer preferences. I did set preview size to maximum which for me is 1280x960 (max allowed). Don't know what else i can do. If at the end it can't be made different, il need to use the default windows
EDIT: i can't embed the images on the forum so up are direct links.

  • Organizer jumps to first picture in well after exit from Full Screen viewer

I'm using PSE 11, and noticed that I'm losing my place in the well after using the Full Screen viewer (F11). For example, if I have 300 pictures in the well, and am halfway through them on picture 150, and I select a few pictures to view Full Screen then press ESC or Exit button to go back, the organizer takes me to the top of the well, with the first picture highlighted. I have to scroll down to find where I was. Is there a way to avoid this?

The problem mentioned above still seems to be present in PSE13. I find this so frustrating that I am considering abandoning the organizer in spite of having 14000 organised and tagged photos in my catalog. SURELY there must be a fix to this problem!

  • Timeline and full screen view in PSE11

I have read as many reviews of PSE11 as I can find but none have mentioned the Timeline, which I use every day. Does it still exist in PSE11? What about the full screen view and compare side by side view? Do they still exist. If they do, can you still see the image full-size by clicking on it in full screen view?

Timeline and Full Screen View exists in PSE11 and all the earlier functionalities present in full screen view are present. The Timeline and Full Screen View can be accessed from View menu of Elements Organizer.

  • Full-screen view in PSE 12?

When I am editing a photograph in PSE 12, I would like to be able to expand the photo I'm working on periodically while I'm working on it, such that I can see, full screen, what the actual results of my manipulations in the picture will be. I can't find any way to [easily] get Photoshop Elements 12 to go to a full-screen view (and then to go right back into the working, image-adjusting views to continue with the various processings).  Any way to do this right within PSE 12, without leaving PSE to look at the emerging image in another program??
    Thank you for any assistance,
    Peter
    Boise, Idaho

    Thank you, R_Kelly!
I'm using Windows 7 (on PC), so I *can* do the procedure you described (and have tried it just now)...
I do like this "floating window" setting, for several reasons, and think it will be quite useful, so I thank you very much for your reply!
But... While doing this does indeed eliminate the outside-the-image clutter and therefore makes the image-in-progress somewhat easier to assess, it doesn't really do anything to make the image fill the entire monitor screen (as I can easily do with most other photo viewers).  I'm getting the feeling that an entire-screen image isn't doable in PSE 12 at all (why the heck wouldn't they put that in??), so probably doing the floating-window-maximized thing is about as close as I'm going to get to what I really want to do.  Better than nothing, I suppose, but I really don't understand why they (Adobe) would leave out such an obviously useful/important option.
Thank you, though.  Did learn something I know will be helpful~~

  • Organizer full screen not working

When Photoshop elements 12 loads the full screen does not show. The top menu and left margin ( file selection folders) are not visible. Using Win 7 shortcut keys to maximise the window does not work. The editor works fine and all the win 7 shortcut keys operate correctly on the editor. Effectively the organizer is not functioning as I cannot select any folders as they are not visible

Sorry, man. No I never got an answer to the question. So I'm
just hoping that an update comes soon that will address this
problem. If you find out something, reply to this topic so I can
see if it works for me.

  • PSE8 Full screen view with high-res images

The Full Screen View in PSE8 doesn't seem to cope well with high-resolution images, eg from a full-frame DSLR (eg my Sony A850 with 6000 x 4000 px).
After selecting an image in Organsier and starting Full Screen View the first image is displayed successfully, but clicking the button to move to subsequent images soon results in a "cracked image" symbol.  (It's unrelated to the image though - closing FSV, selecting the suspect image and restarting FSV displays it properly).
I get the same symptoms with JPEG and RAW images, and on two Windows PCs.  One's XP with 1.5GB, the other is Windows 7 with 8GB.
I've tried maximising the RAM available to PSE8 (in Editor preferences), but it makes no difference.

Here is the solution under Windows 7 64-bit  with Photoshop Elements 6 for the new Entry "MaxImageSize":
The Registry-Entries for 32-bit-Programs are saved in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ... Wow6432Node ...
    QWORD-32bit 42C1D8000000
    (Hex 1120000000 or Decimal 73551314944)
    for a JPG-File up to 10.000 x 10.000 Pixel

  • Photoshop elements organize not resizing window

Photoshop elements organizer 11 on a Mac 10.8.  I cannot resize program window up/down.

today had the same problem, go to system preferences and choose screens ...
change the screen resolution and change again to the highest resolution.  The elements window did resize in such a way that the little right low corner is again visible

  • What is new in Photoshop elements organizer

Are there any changes to the photoshop elements organizer from version 8 to 9

I agree.  In some ways it is a real step backward.  I would not recommend "upgrading" to
PSE9 based on one day of working with it.  Lost the ability to see all files in folder view and it is
    EXTREMELY SLOW.
I really wish I hadn't changed to PSE9 and converted my catalog, which it didn't fully convert properly.
    Stay away from this upgrade!

    Hi Mary,
    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

  • Max files in Photoshop Elements Organizer

    Hello,
    I have few questions:
    1/
Following this thread, I am wondering what is the limit of PhotoShop Elements Organizer V8 ?? How many pictures can we insert into ONE catalog ?
    2/
I currently have 6000 pictures that I would like to import into PhotoShop Elements Organizer V8, from Adobe PhotoShop Album V1.
Is this possible ? I tried with the trial version, but I have an error when converting the .psa file from PhotoShop Album V1, asking me to try to consolidate or repair the file in the previous program (but it works well in PhotoShop Album V1).
    Any idea ?
    3/
Is the trial version the same than the paid one ? I mean: if I start using the trial, inserting tags and so on, should I uninstall it when buying the full version or could I just buy a serial number and inserting it to unlock the trial ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Kamayana

    John,
You are just MARVELOUS !!!! That's awesome: your website, the informations listed in it, the work you do here on the forum !!
Wow !!! I will purchase this product just for your support. Can I pay you to obtain a support and pay you the software ? Lol
You replied to all my questions !
For 2/, I read before your FAQ (I thought it was Adobe FAQ, I did not pay attention to the URL), I tried it without success (excepted item 9/ which is not possible for me, since PhotoShop Album does not allow writing metadata to files, but maybe your small program can do it ?) ...
But since I do not give up like that, I done the following, you might add it to your FAQ ?
1/ I used the dichotomy method. I was sure that some files gave problems. So, my 6000 pictures have been separated into 6 albums (1000 each). Then, I run the converting tool on each one. All worked, excepted one. This one, I share into 500 pictures each. I run the tool on each one. One was OK, the other one fail. The one which fails has been separated in 250 pictures each... And so on. Until you see which pictures cause problems... In my case, it was some modified pictures (2 of them).
Then, I eliminate this 2 pictures from my initial 6000 catalog, I do the import again, and... SUCCESS !!
Hope it might help someone else.
