Photoshop Elements 5.0 Attempt to access invalid address error

Everytime I try to open Photoshop Elements I get this error message
and the application refuses to load. I had this issue before and solved it by deleting Chrome (which irked me as it remains my favourite browser to use) however it appears to have come back. I'm not using Bitdefender and my operating system is Windows 7. I have tried deleting my preference folders and uninstalling and re-installing. Any help? I really don't have the money to upgrade and I like this version.

Have you applied the 5.0.2 update for Vista/W7? If not download it here:

  • Elements 5.02 - Attempt to access invalid address

When I try to launch Photoshop 5.02 the welcome screen is displayed and I can open the Organizer, but when I attempt to open the Quick Fix or the other editor programs I get a dialogue box "Attempt to access invalid address"
This problem is on my profile only as Photoshop works when another user is logged in to the PC ( OS: Vista Home 32bit) and was working ok until a few week ago.
I have tried the following with no success:
    Reinstalled the s/w.
Deleing the Photoshop folder from the AppData in my profile folder.
Deleting the Photoshop registry entries from Current User.
Searched the web for a solution
I know that I could delete my profile and create a new one, but I would only do this if all else failed as I would loose other settings just when I have all setup the way I want it.
Could anyone give me any pointers to where I might look to resolve this please.
    Thank you. Niall

Make sure your user account has full administrative permissions.  Then, at this stage of the game, I would take the following steps:
    - Re-create the Preferences file following these instructions:
Re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: When you use this solution, Photoshop Elements will create a new preferences file and you will lose custom settings associated with your current preferences file. However, the file you rename in step 2 is your original preferences file. If you determine that the preferences file is not causing the problem, then you can restore your custom settings by undoing the instructions below.
To re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences file:
    Quit Photoshop Elements.
Locate the Adobe Photoshop Elements preferences files. In Photoshop Elements 5.0, there are two preferences files, one for Organizer and one for Editor:
    Users\[ user ]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Organizer\psa.prf
    Users\[ user ]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Editor\Photoshop Elements 5 Prefs.psp
Rename the extension for the files (for example, to psa.old).
Start Photoshop Elements. Photoshop Elements creates a new preferences file.
I doubt that this will fix your problem, however, it is always the first thing to try.  If it does not, take these steps:
    - Uninstall Photoshop Elements
    - Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301)
    - Reinstall Elements
    - Reinstall the 5.0.2 patch
    Good luck,

  • Attempt to access invalid address error

    Been using PSE 5.0 for
years with no problems, then all of a sudden, when I try and open it I get the following error:  attempt to access i
    nvalid address
I cannot open my PSE 5 now - suspect it is because of MS Vista auto upgrade?  Any solutions or am I being forced to buy PSE 8?

On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
    Thanks,
    Garry

After further search on the internet I was able to find out the cause of the problem -- there is a conflict with my anti virus security BitDefender 2010. A solution can be found here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/lofiversion/index.php/t15247.html
Most of the post refer to a problem with Elements 5 and 5.1 but the solution worked for my verison also.

Those are definitely the symptoms of the licensing problem. I suggest printing out the instructions and installing the licensing patch again:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750
    Installation Instructions
After downloading a ".zip" file, use the operating system or a utility such as WinZip or PKZIP to access the file's contents.
    1. Download the attachment.
    2. Unzip/uncompress the file to a folder on the system.
    3. Make sure Acrobat is not running. If the system has any Adobe Creative Suite® 3/4 applications installed, make sure they are not running.
    4. Click the Vista Start button, enter "taskmgr" in the Start Search field and press Enter.
    5. Click on the Processes tab, then click the button "Show processes from all users".
    6. If the FNPLicensingservice process is running, click on it, then click the "End Process" button and confirm that the process should stopped.
    7. Exit Task Manager.
    8. Right-click the InstAS.exe file and select "Run as administrator." The Command prompt window should appear and display "Trying to install anchor service."
    9. Upon completion, reboot the system and launch.
    Let me know your comments.

  • Adoobe Reader "Attempt to access invalid address"

I have installed Adobe Reader XI.  The installation seems to complete successfully but when I try to launch aplication I get an error with the file path followed by the message "Attempt to access invalid address".  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling,  manully deleteing keys in the registry, and about any other thing I can think of.  Any suggesstions would be welcome.

    Hi eugene,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • UnsatisfiedLinkError: Attempt to access invalid address

If I try to run my JavaAppl, I always get the following message. Something seems to be wrong with the operation call uread() of the Library foxapi.lib. If I disable this operation (with //), I get the Defaultvalue=5 back. So the jni seems to work. But what's wrong with this operation?? In a C++-Prog this Operation doesnt's make any problems. I often use the foxapi.lib and it works well.
    Any idea?

Have you built your DLL statically linking
to this function "uread" in library "foxapi.lib"?
Yes I built my DLL statically linking to the library "foxapi.lib". I used the Borland compiler bcc32.
Foxapi is a third party C++-package. It contains a foxapi.dll and a foxapi.h. I've build with the tool implib.exe the foxapi.lib to make it working with the borland compiler.
And if I build a .exe it works fine. But with the jni I get the problems.
