Pink Circles in Highlights with Olympus EP-1

When editing pictures in Lightroom, highlights such as clouds or lights are developing pink fringing, or circles, in the white areas.
- This only happens in Lightroom, not in the Olympus Master software.
- It does not occur in .jpg files.
- It only seems to occur in blown, or close to, highlights such as lights, clouds, or other bright areas.
- Occurs in both DNG and Olympus native Raw formats
- Occurs only after zooming in on the photo -- so upon initial import its fine, but once you zoom in on the picture, the fringes develop.
I have attached a picture -- notice the clouds in the sky.
If anyone has any ideas on why this is happening, or what can be done, please advise.

It's a known bug, but is unlikely to be fixed before the next update.

What does the Pink circle segment that appears in the center of the Tool bar

My iMac has been freezing up the last couple of weeks. It is locked up right now and I cannot access or change things with the mouse on the screen.
There is a pink circle segment in the center of the toolbar at the top of the screen??? Can anybody tell me what that means and whether there is a fix for what is going on with my iMac?

You apparently have had a hardware failure, most likely, and should take your Mac in to let an Apple Genius diagnose it.

Pink Circles in Pictures- iPhone 4 (Pictures Inside)

I recently bought an iPhone 4 which is running iOS 4.2.1
I have taken pictures in the dark to test out the flash only to see multiple pink circles in every picture I have taken. I have already restored the iPhone, but it did not help.
Has anyone else experienced this situation?

That could be a hardware issue. Probably be a good idea to take it to an Apple store or Apple certified repair provider.
You have 14 days from date of purchase for an exchange.

The Get Info. fields show up gray if the files is locked and iTunes knows it can't edit the file. Make sure the files are not marked as read only and, if necessary grant both your account and system full access to all files and subfolders of your media folder.
You can set Part of a Compilation for multiple tracks from the Options tab of Get Info.

Bug in Crop tool with Olympus E-M5 raw files (ORF)

There is a bug in the crop tool with Olympus OM-D E-M5 RAW files (ORF) that is still not fixed with the recent update. Here is how to reproduce the problem.
I setup my E-M5 camera picture aspect ratio to 3:2 (instead of the sensor 4:3) and file format to RAW.
I take a picture.
I import the picture in Lightroom. The first thumbnail I see is the full sensor, then Lightroom computes a new thumbnail and correctly display the 3:2 crop factor.
I select the picture in the library and press [R] to bring the Crop tool.
BUG: The Crop tool does not let me recover the full 4:3 sensor image and is locked to the 3:2 crop factor.
Can this be fixed? Thanks

Are you sure you mean Photoshop version 6 the is a very old version of Photoshop before ACR existed. ACR first became available as a extra cost plug-in for Photoshop version 7. ACR started to be shipped with Photoshop with Photoshop CS. Each version since Photoshop CS has a newer version of ACR which is not compatible with older versions of Photoshop. So
CS ACR version is 2.4
CS2 ACR version 3.7
CS3 ACR version 4.6
CS4 ACR version 5.7
CS5 ACR version 6.7
CS6 and CC ACR version 8.4 however the new features in ACR 8.4 for CC are crippled in CS6. CS6 just get the new Camera support.

If you have CS6 use menu help>Updates it should find the ACR 8.4 for CS6 and update your installation. If it does not you can down load it and the DNG converter. However don't convert to DNG just use your OFR RAW files.

If you do mean Photoshop version 6 you need to see if Olympus has a RAW converter for Photoshop version 6 for your camera.

Odd Maze Pattern with Olympus E-P1 & DNG Converter

Hello. I wanted to report an odd maze pattern when I convert a raw file from the Olympus E-P1. It seems to happen when using wide angle lenses (Zeiss 21/4.5 C Biogon and Zeiss 25/2.8 Biogon. The maze pattern is very prominent in the right corners of the image attached, where some softness is exhibited by the lens. Anyone else experiencing this? I do not get these patterns when converting with Olympus Studio or CaptureOne. -Norm

Many thanks for your reply. I sent two RW2 files; 295 made with the
Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15mm II at f/11, and file 299 with the
Leica Summicron-C 40 mm at f/8.
The maze artifacts are most visible in the top righthand corner. The
longer the focal point of the lens the less visible seem the artifacts.
Although I have seen posts on Flickr that the artifacts can change
with the same focal point lenses of different brands. A 35mm Zeiss
showed maze artifacts while a 35 Leitz did not.
I had some more interesting pictures with nice blue skies but these
had already been converted to DNG (still showing strong maze artifacts).
If I can supply any more files or information please do not hesitate
to ask.

That camera model is too new for your programs. Every camera has its own raw format and ACR must be updated to include the info for each new model as it comes out. The workaround would be to download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to convert your ORFs to DNGs that your version of Camera Raw can read.

Highlight with a Picture behind a button.

Im trying to make the buttons on a dvdsp4 project highlight with a .psd file of a piece of masking tape. I want the tape pic to appear behing the button's text when thier mouse passes over it or when they have moved to it with thier dvd remote. Im stumped here and would really appreciate any help at all. Thanks.

There's no way to achieve the knockout effect within DVDSP without prepping the elements in Photoshop for each menu and button.
If you create the tape shapes in photoshop, these should go onto a separate layer to be used as the buton overlay in DVDSP. This layer will probably work best as grayscale, then you would map a masking-tape-like color onto it in DVDSP.
Preserve a version o fyour photoshop file with the editable text and all the layers, and prepare a copy for DVDSP in which you have flattened the layers down to a background and overlay. By combining the layers the right way you can load the alpha channel of the type and fill it with a color (shade of grey) on your overlay layer with only a couple clicks for each menu. I'd recommend using black for the text, and the lighter grays for the tape, that way you can map a different color for the highlight on the type in DVDSP and still simulate an anti-aliased look for the tape image by managing the color and transparency.
Two other options:
in DVDSP, consider the layered menu method, which will allow you to turn the full-color photoshop layers on and off for each button state. Read up on this and why it makes menu navigation sluggish.
Make the tape iamges part of the background and cover them up with the buttons' normal state. This requires having a solid color in that part of the background to which you can match the color of the buttons' normal state. This can be tricky.

Is it possible to use Lightroom for tethered shooting with Olympus E series (particularly E-600)? If not, is it in the future plans to include support for Olympus cameras?

The above link will indicate the extent of tether support in LR 5.3. You will note that basic you will see that only a limited number of Canon and Nikon camera models and three Leica models are presently supported. This is a user to user forum so the people who will likely reply to your question are users like yourself. Those who know will most likely be restricted from making a comment due a non disclosure agreement. Adobe does not usually comment on what new features or camera models will be supported.
I am a user of Lightroom since the initial version and I have two Olympus and one Panasonic camera and doubt that it will happen in the near future.
