Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5

What about Pixel Bender in Photoshop CS5?
I didn`t see anything in the CS5 launch event.
I would love to see new features like:
some useful filters
at least some tools like hand tool etc. (not everyone knows shortcuts)
no more size limit at 4096x4096px
navigation like in Photoshop (flick-panning, scrubby zoom etc.)
onscreen tools like in PS
So what`s the deal with PB and PS CS5?

Just installed the new PB version.
I can only speek for Pixel Bender in Photoshop, but I`m wondering what the PB team has been doing since the PB version that shipped with CS4.
It`s the same useless plugin as before. It`s fast (as it was before), but that`s it. Still no useful filters, still a file size limit, that cannot even open a pic from an entry level DSLR, no colormanagement, no tools (not even a rightclick menu for zoom levels) etc., etc.
After 1,5 years extremely disappointing!
Will we ever see a PB version that`s really worth installing for Photoshop?

• Pixel Bender 32bit for CS5 crashes CS5 when I select the plug-in

I am running Windows Vista Premium Home Edition SP2 on a Gateway Laptop.  I have 2gb of RAM and I have checked and my Video Driver is up to date.  I have un-installed all my other filters such as Topez and now running a clean version of CS5.  I also run CS4 on the same laptop as I am working on converting as I purchase upgrades to my other filters.  Pixel Bender runs file under CS4 but when I install it Adobe Extension Manager CS5 and then start CS5, load an image and then select Pixel Bender, it crashes CS5.
I have deleted the download and down loaded it again.  I have looked through the forum and have not located a thread related to this problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you.
Michael

What graphics card are you using? What are the driver date and version as displayed via Vista's Display preferences?

• Photoshop Pixel Bender Plugin Error (CS5 keeps closing)

I'm having an issue with photoshop cs5. I downloaded the Pixel Bender plugin from Adobes website and installed it exactly how it says to, yet everytime I go to click on it an error box comes up saying it encountered a problem and needs to close the program. Here is a quick video of what it's doing.

I read something about the GL thing or gpu thing having o be enabled in photoshop, well it wont let me check that box. Someone also told me that my video probably doesn't support this plugin. I'm running this on my dell inspiron 1501 that's about 6 years old. Any ideas guys? I really like the way this plugin looks and i'm gonna to be very dissipointed with my computer, photoshop, and adobe in general if I can't get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
EDIT : The video card I'm using is an ATI Radeo Xpress 1150. From the list of video cards that pixel bender works on it doesn't appear that my video card supports it. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks

Yeah, the graphics driver is incompatible. That is nothing anyone can change. PB is legacy tech, anyway. You could try this, if it's realyl close to your heart:
http://aescripts.com/pixel-bender-accelerator/
Otherwise I wouldn't bother. Most PB filters are nothing more than half-baked tech demos and I wouldn't consider them usable for production purposes.

• The Pixel Bender for PH CS5 download link doesn't work

There is a download link on
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pixelbender.html
for
Pixel Bender Plug-in for Photoshop CS5 with following adress:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbenderplugin/
but if you click on it you will be back to
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pixelbender.html

I'm looking into this (whether to remove the PixelBender dev page or add the CS5 plug-in to the Legacy Downloads section at the bottom of the page).
That said, PixelBender is more or less EOL (end of life) as it's not supported in CS6 and not planned for support in future versions:

Could anyone pinpoint what's the problem?
Never crashed on the IDE.

Glad to hear you found the ReadMe.
The previous limitation was not arbitrary as the decision was made based on experiments across various GPUs and operating systems. We had a bit more time this go-around to improve how we enforce the limit and so we did. There is still a 128MB limit on the image size. We attempted to remove this limit entirely, but just found too many problems with the graphics drivers across the various card/os combinations we support. The decision was a tradeoff between minimizing the posts we get complaining about the supported image size and minimizing the tech support calls we get complaining the plugin is crashing Photoshop (usually the result of a crash in the driver) or is painting garbage to the screen. The limit isn't perfect but it is an improvement over the previous limit. We will continue to work to expand this limit and hopefully we'll be able to remove it entirely at some point in the future. In the meantime, the two limits you need to consider are the 128MB limit on image size and the texture size limit of your graphics card. The plugin limits you to the texture size of your graphics card if that texture size limit is less than 128MB, otherwise the plugin limits you to 128MB. You can find out the texture size limit, as I pointed out in another thread, by using a tool such as "OpenGL Extensions Viewer."

Thanks again for all your feedback; it's much appreciated. Happy filtering.

• Pixel Bender for Photoshop CS4 -- in August 2010 ?????

How could I have missed it!
Just found out about Pixel Bender today via an email from Wacom.
Can only find the CS5 version available for download on the Adobe Labs site. Will the CS5 version work with PSCS4? If not, is there someway for me to download the CS4 version?
I'm still saving my pennies for a CS5 upgrade. Hope I don't have to wait until then to explore Pixel Bender.
Any help greatly appreciated.

• Busted Transparency/Pixel Grid in Photoshop CS5?

I'm hoping someone can help me out if its a preference, or if its a bug in Photoshop CS5... If you check out the image below, the faint white lines outlining the pixel grid from CS4 are perfect, whereas in CS5 they're horrible. I'm on Mac OS Snow Leopard with Photoshop 12.0.2.
Can anyone offer any insight? I'm really tempted to go back to using CS4 because of this. Hopefully it can be fixed soon...

Man, the more I read about this, and Adobe's excuse for dropping it, the more I hate them as a company.
Nobody freaking ASKED ANY OF US if we wanted support for PB to continue.  To say there wasn't interest in it is a flat out lie.
The I read their response here the more I despise them too for providing blanket responses to genuine customer questions and skirting the issue. Oh, and lying. Or at least, not being told the truth from Management as the real reason, even thoguh they probably know but aren't allowed top publicly say...
Adobe, in regards to the pixel bender issue, you have failed your customers. Period. Thanks for noticing (sarcasm).

• Trouble installing Pixel Bender in Photoshop CS4

I have downloaded
pbplugin_ps32b_111708.mxp
pixelbender_p7_mac_081809.dmg
MandelbulbQuick.pbk
pixelbender_toolkit_2.5.dmg
I have ran what I think are the installers for them. They go through the motions of installation but so far I have no indication that they have installed in Photoshop.  I have looked under the filters but do not see them. Where should I look or what could I have done wrong?
I am running PS CS4, on an iMac, running 10.6 on and intel duocore 2 with 4 gigs of ram.

• Pixel Bender will not open in PS CS5 (not enough RAM)

I get the following message when I try to open Pixel Bender in Photoshop CS5:
Could not complete the Pixel Bender Gallery command because there is not enough memory (RAM).
I have 4GB RAM on a Mac Mini 2gHz Core Duo, and I have never had another plug in fail to load. Requirements are supposed to be the same as CS5.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for your response.
Photoshop is running in 32-bit mode, as most of my plug ins are not yet 64 bit.
This error dialog appears before the gallery opens.
All my images are under 4096 px wide. I tried using a much smaller image. Same message.
I tried increasing the available memory in preferences. Same message.
I tried lowering the available memory in preferences. Same message.
My Mac Mini has an NVidia 9500M, which is listed as one of the cards that support GPU processing for Pixel Bender. Memory is shared with the CPU, but that should not be relevant - many others would have had my complaint if that mattered.
