Pixel Bender... I do not have the appropriate permission...

I get this message consistenly on  all attempts: either installing pixel bender in extension manger as well  as launching xmp plug in by itself.
"You do not have  appropriate permissions required to perform this operation. Contact your  system administrator to obtain permission."
I tried this:
the "Is -alFod" procedure in the terminal.app;
Re: Pixel Bender... I do not have the appropriate permission...
1. Open the Utilities directory within the Applications directory.
2. Launch the application, "Terminal.app."
3. Type "ls -alFod " (case is important and note the space at the end) in the terminal but do not press enter/return.
4.   Drag and drop the Pixel Bender Extension Manager package,   "pixelbenderplugin_p2_64bit_090910.mxp," onto the window in   "Terminal.app."
5. Press enter/return.
6. Copy the contents of the window and report them here.
gives me this result:

Re: Pixel Bender... I do not have the appropriate permission...
It's  not clear to me how you can get into a state where the ls command  cannot be found. Do you have admin rights on your mac? Regardless,  please start a new thread, with details about the problem you're  encountering. Thanks.
My admin rights is to an extent that i can bequeath the unit to anyone as I please.
Problems encountered is as stated on the first post, exactly like the problems encountered as posted by Brabusa60's; and the Is -alFod procedure at Terminal.app returns an unlikely response.

Sorry for the untimely response. I had internet troubles.
here are the terminal.app the output for these:
ls -alFo ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/
ls -alFo ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Extension\ Manager\ CS5/
ls -alFo /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS5/
Last login: Mon Apr 13 21:13:57 on console
CatiMac:~ cat$ ls -alFo ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/
total 0
Even though I had read write permission then I was only able to succesfully install after I enabled "root" user.
nevertheless, thank you for responding

  • The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions

    Hi
I originally posted this in the Windows 7 Networking forum and they advised to post it here.
We use Windows 7 SP1 clients with Roaming Profile and Folder Redirection and they are connected to a Windows 2008 SP2 server.  We are getting issues when someone tries to open files on their redirected Desktop and they get the message "'The item
referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions" if you click browse it then defaults to a different users profile.  If you click through the errors the file eventually loads.  If you open Word from
the Start menu and then browse to the file it opens fine.  We have found that deleteting the Normal.DOTM file sometimes fixes the error, but only seems effective 50% of the time.  This doesn't happen for all users, and seems to occur in small
groups and not all the time.  We have also had the same message come up with someone trying to open Word files an online learning resource we have created.
There are a couple of events showing for about the time the error occured they are:

    Hi
An update.  We have approx 400 people with roaming profile/folder redirection on Windows 7/2008 and this only seems to have occurred to about 15 people, and then seems to clear up for a period and then happens again.  We also have a similar number
of people with roaming profile/folder redirection on Windows 7/2003 system and we haven't had a report of this issue happening on this setup.
So far we haven't been able to replicate the issue using a test account, so are struggling to find out what is causing it and why it is so random.

  • When I try to open iTunes, I get this error message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I get a different error message if I try to uninstall it.

When I try to open iTunes, I get this error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I've been able to uninstall all Apple products except iTunes as I get this error message: "The Installer has insufficent privileges to modify this file: C:\Program Files\i Tunes\Acknowledgments.rtf." I've had the iTunes on my laptop for a year and a half with no problems until now.

    Any suggestions please?

  • You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item fix.

So about 2 days ago after i downloaded and installed the iTunes update and when i tried to open it the next day it came up with
    the error
"Windows can not access the specific device, file, or path. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item "and the parth was for c:\program files (x86)\itunes\itunes.exe.
But since I am the admin for my computer and only user thought it was weird. So look online and saw some topics but not a single one helped me. I gave access to all the folders, uninstalled everything apple and reinstalled still got the same error.
So I thougth it might be a virus or malware did a virus sacn nothing did a malware scan found some items removed them and still got the same error and even did system restore still same error.
I even made a new Admin accoung for my computer thinking mine had become corrupt but still same error. So I was at my wits end and had pretty much come to terms with the fact that I may not has access to itunes.
But i tried one last thing and this is the fix at least for me I installed itunes on an external hard drive then moved those files to my desktop. Here's excatly what i did.
    1. I uninstalled itunes from my computer.
    2. Plugged in external HD and made a new folder named it iTunes.
    3. Ran iTunes setup and when it asked where to installed the files I chose my external HD which for me was the G drive and installed.
    4. After iTunes was installed I viewed the files in my external HD and chose the iTunes folder and chose CUT.
    5. I then pasted that to the desktop after that I just opened the folder and chose the iTunes applcation and to my surprise it opened with out a hitch.
You have to move the folder out of the external HD because if you don't and you unplug the HD it won't open unless the HD is plugged in.
Sorry for the supe long post but I just wanted to share my fix for this annoying problem so other people may try it and see if it works for them .

  • QT 7.4 install fails - You do not have the appropriate access privileges."

well.. first off.. hope this right forum. It's happening qith a Quicktime 7.4 install but its not Quicktime issue..
Got the 7.4 Software Update along with 2 others (iTunes was one). I'm on my Mac, logged in as the admin, only account on the machine.
The two other installs downloaded and installed fine. In the SAME INSTALL session the QT 7.4 reported "You do not have the appropriate access privileges."
I've ran permissions fix with Apple disk util and OnyX, no help, install fails and reports same.
    Here's the Console:

L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB

sorry for the sys confusion I simply forgot to set ox version on the reply. I'm installing from the Software Update on the Mac, so... software update is choosing what to install, not me.
I have fixed permissions using Apple Disk Util and Onyx. Several times, repeated, and from startup disk, backup system clone, and the install CD. All complete showing a few items as "file changed, did not fix."
I really don't care that much about getting the QT 7.4 update but it really bothers me that I'm having this problem. The problem concerns me more than not having the update.

  • Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Hi, i'm a Windows 7 user of HP Pavilion dm4.
It has been weeks since iTunes works properly on my computer. I'm here to seek help from professionals or people who had encountered it before. Whenever I double-click on iTunes, it prompt me a message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." But another thing is, i'm the only adminstrator on this laptop. If I don't have permission, who has? Sigh.
I had tried uninstalling and installing iTunes from official website many times but to no avail.

    Hi,
Also, please make sure your current user is a administrator account and have permission to open the file.
Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
    Click the Security tab.
Under Group or User names, click your name to see the permissions you have.
Have you installed 3rd software in you computer? please turn off them temporarily to check if this issue still occurs.

You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item? Thats what it says when I try to open iTunes. Ive tried repairing iTunes from control panel... Ive tried reinstalling. Im running windows vista on an acer laptop. It was working fine until something (unknown to me) happened.(?) The destination its searching in is C:Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe. Ive tried everything so far.... Please help!

Are all of the computer users administrative users?
Do you have another account logged in with iTunes open, when you try to use a different account? iTunes doesn't work with fast user switching, so make sure you choose "log off" instead of "switch user" when moving between user accounts.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permission

We subscribe to a service called "Vault" which provies its documents in encrypted PDFs using the etd format. As well as Digitial Editions we have Acrobat Reader 9 installed on our PCs (Windows XP,SP2). When a user tries to download any of the documents they are seeing the following error:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item."
However, if they open Digitial Edtions (or have had it open at some point in the past) before they download the document it opens without any problems. We use ZEN works to manage our PCs, and we use something called Dynamic Local User (DLU) which means that when a students logs into a PC the user's local Windows account is created on the fly, and then when they log out it is then deleted. This means that they are effectively using Digitial Edtions for the first time everytime they log into a PC.
As anyone else seen the above error? Also, is there a way of stopping it? What does Digital Editions do the first time it is opened? Are there registry keys that we can add, which emulates the opening of Digital Editions so it doesn't have to be opened first before we can download the Vault documents?
Any advice/tips would be most welcome.
