Pixel dimensions of screen?

Im making a slideshow of photos and want to use iMovie. Anyone know the exact pixel dimensions of the screen so i can make the images fit?
Thanks in advance.

It all depends on what you mean by "make the images fit".
iMovie 4 accepts any photo with a 4:3 aspect ratio, e.g. 1600 x 1200, and resizes it to fill the iMovie frame.
But that's not true with iMovie HD. iMovie HD pillarboxes a 4:3 image imported to a DV-type project -- adds black bars to the right and left sides. If you are okay with that, then virtually any photo with a 4:3 ratio will be fine.
If you don't want pillarboxing, however, you have to 1) crop the image to some other aspect ratio before importing to iMovie HD; or 2) increase the Ken Burns zoom so Ken Burns crops the image.
(Pillarboxing may not be a problem if you plan to view the slideshow on a 4:3 TV. The black bars may be hidden by the TV Safe Area. But if you plan to view it in QuickTime or on a widescreen TV, you may want to avoid the black bars.)
Lots more here:

Note that the recommended photo sizes depends on the type of iMovie HD project you create.

  • Where is it possible to batch process the size of images?--I am able to change pixel dimensions in image processor but not image size in inches.

Hi- I need to batch process images for video project.  I am able to change the pixel dimensions in the image processor but don't seem to have the option to change image size in inches.  Please advise!  Thanks

You don't need inches for video (or screen viewing in general). It all goes by pixel count. Inches is for print, nothing else.
But to answer the question, you can run actions in the Image Processor, and this is where you set size in inches. Just bring up Image Size, uncheck "resample image", and specify size. You'll notice resolution changes to reflect the fact that the existing image pixels are now redistributed over the new print size.
But again, screen doesn't care about size or resolution. It only counts pixels.

  • Image files with large pixel dimensions display out of focus in a Bridge viewer?

I Create image files with pixel dimensions 2048x1365. When I display these files from Bridge on my Mac, either by pressing the space bar or in a slideshow, the images are out of focus. If I left click or click/hold and move the images slightly on screen they display in sharp focus. Unfortunately, although landscape-orientation images display correctly with no change in position or size, portrait-orientation files are enlarged and display with top and bottom off the screen. The pixel dimensions of my monitor are 2450x1600 so, yes, if portrait images are displayed at 100% they should display off screen, but this does not excuse the out of focus display of landscape files on this large screen. Nor does this explain why the portrait files are out of focus when they fit on screen. When the same files open in a Camera Raw window they are in focus. When they open in Photoshop at 100% the files are in focus.

  • Pixel dimensions for still images

    Hello all,
I have just ran into a problem that seems to be a sizing problem with Final Cut Express HD. I used to crop my still pics to 1366 px - 768 px (for landscape) and then import them to FCE and export as a quicktime movie. When I brought the quicktime movie into iDVD and created the DVD it seemed to play great on my 46" Samsung tv -- full screen.
I just recently bought a Samsung 60" and when I create the same type of movies, I am getting a huge black border around the whole image (not just top and bottom but sides too). I tried creating a new movie and made all my still images 1920px x 1080 px, and it still comes out the same way.
I can stretch my tv so that they go full screen, but I think there should be a way to create the movie without having to stretch it....just have the tv set for 16:9, and I feel that it should work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks.
    Norm

When you create a DVD, no matter what the pixel dimensions of your original material, it become 720x480 Standard Definition. This is what a DVD is. If you are creating a DVD that has material that is 16x9, then it creates a DVD that is 720x480 but plays back anamorphic, stretching to create the 16x9 screen.
If you play one of your older DVDs that played correctly on your previous TV, does it play correctly or does it also exhibit the black bars?
If it plays correctly then something has changed in the way you are creating your project in FCE.and encoding and burning the DVD.
If the older DVDs also exhibit the same playback problem, then I believe there is a menu setting on your new TV that will tell it how to display Standard Definition material from your DVD player, and you need to adjust that. (There are also settings in the set-top DVD player that tells it what kind of signal to send based on the what kind of display it is hooked up to.)

  • Pixel dimensions not working

    Hi folks,
Sorry for including a CEX file attachment, but an example speaks a
1000 words and the file is only 4Kb.
I am trying to dynamically create a PictureGraphic on a form and I want
to place and size it using pixel dimensions. This is because I need to
match this PictureGraphic against a background PictureGraphic which
    lies in behind it.
I have tried using the XPixel, YPixel, HeightInPixels and WidthInPixels
attributes of the PictureGraphic (after setting it's "Parent" attribute
appropriately) but these do not seem to work (please see example).
Anyone know why these do not work? I know I could use 'mils' but to
match them to pixels involves calculating the number of mils per pixel
for the users screen resolution and there is the threat of rounding issues
    there.
    I am using 3.0.J.1.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Actual Pixel Value for Screen Res...(Doc Window)...Incorrect in DW ?

    hello again...
In Dreamweaver MX 2004...the dropdown menu on the status bar (right corner) of the document window...showing actual pixel dimensions vs. maximized screen resolution...
    ...for the 1024 X 768 SR...I'm showing actual pixel dimensions of 955 X 600.
    is that not correct...???
I have always gone under the assumption that those figures are 1003 X 567 (& my pages always seem to work fine, dimensionally, w/ those #'s).
Is 955 X 600 the default for DW...or did my settings somehow get inadvertantly changed...???
    thanks,
    mark4man

Browser chrome eats up approx. 30px on each side.  So if you're building a page to fit in a 1024px wide display without horizontal scrollbars, a page width of 970px or below is usually a good target.

  • Matching InDesign and Photoshop Pixel Dimensions

I'm attempting to use InDesign to determine pixel sizes of a baseline grid and typography that will eventually be used on a webpage. Since Photoshop doesn't have a baseline grid or a baseline grid snapping feature, I thought I might be able to make something work in InDesign.
Unfortunately I'm running into a problem, where pixel dimensions in InDesign don't seem to match up with pixel sizes in Photoshop. For example, with documents at 100% view in both Photoshop and InDesign, a 100px square appears larger on screen in InDesign than in Photoshop. It's as if InDesign is rendering the view at a different resolution than Photoshop.
Above you can see a square made at 42 pixels in InDesign viewed at 100% zoom (though InDesign insists on displaying the size as points) with the same square screen-captured and opened in Photoshop. The square is actually measured at 54 pixels.
How can I get InDesign to display the same pixel sizes as Photoshop?

True enough on both counts! Relative resolution and scaling is definitely helpful for print design (I learned early on what scale to view in order to preview onscreen at what would be actual physical size--the reverse of double-clicking the zoom tool now, I guess.)
But I see no reason why we can't have it both ways. Isn't that the whole point of "web" or "Digital Publishing" intent in document setup? Why not have Indesign switch to 1-1px scale when you create a document set to web intent? Wouldn't be any different, functionally, than what the script does, it would just revert to physical scale when I open a print document. Seems like it should be obvious that the preview scale when creating a web site should be 1 pixel is 1 pixel--my browser isn't going to display my website at 123.7% scale. Or that if you chose the "iPad" digital pub template, the display scale should be twice that of a (theoretical) Retina display iPad. It's functionally just a different number, right? That is, if I were writing a script, I could theoreticall specify any resolution I wanted to get the desired display scale.
Ok, so now I'm turning this into feature request, I know, and the question has been thoroughly answered. But it needn't be that complicated--all we really need is a place to CHOOSE what mode to opperate in, right? If Adobe really prefers not to open the output-intent-view-scale can o' worms, then why not leave an Acrobat-style resolution preference where I can type in a number? The obvious advantage of that over the script solution is that it's easy to set or reset.
Aside: while we're on the topic of having it both ways in regards to using Indesign for more than print work... Why not include the option to set the document color profile (most likely to sRGB) when I choose "web" intent in a new document dialog? Oh! And give me actual RGB black and white color swatches in "web" documents.
I'm just excited about the idea of Adobe taking a few more steps in the direction they've started with the whole document intent feature set in Indesign. A more inviting web design environment wouldn't in any way keep me from continuing to use Indesign for print work (all day every day). What is there to lose? Not like they're developing Fireworks anymore, and Indesign already makes more sense for web than Illustrator. ... I'm sure it's a HUGE internal debate at Adobe. Probably some Fireworks replacement app in the works that I don't know about.

  • Pixel dimensions for iPad wallpaper

I want to set a background wallpaper for my iPad that won't be cropped or otherwise distorted to fit the screen.  In the past all that was required was to pad an image to the appropriate proportions in photoshop, but when I created an image to be precisely the pixel dimensions of the iPad3 screen, 2048x1536, attempts to set it as wallpaper still resulted in the the wallpaper settings blowing it up.
Is there any pixel size at which the bug-ridden iOS7 will not attempt to blow it up, ruining the image?
Or is there a set degree of enlargement it uses, like forcing everything to be double, that I can use to pad an image so the forced crop results in the final image being correct?
I'm really tired of the seeing my wrecked images every time I wake  the iPad.  And no, I have no interest whatsoever in Apple's screenshots.

  • Pixel dimensions in CS2

I opened a jpg image in PS CS2, and opened the Image size panel. I found the following: Width 2304 px., height 1728 px., doc size 32" x 24" at 72 px/in, and Pixel Dimensions 11.4M.
Can anyone explain the relationship of the pixel dimensions to the other data, i.e., how the pixel dimensions are calculated.

    Thanks Phos.
From http://firesign3.com/glossary.html, Pixel Dimension is defined as..."The size of a computer display screen expressed in horizontal pixels by vertical pixels (H x V, or 800 x 600, for example)".
From http://www.scantips.com/basics1b.html: "If the image size were say 1000x750 pixels (written as width x height by convention), then there would be 1000 columns and 750 rows of data values, or 1000x750 = 750,000 pixels total. For 24 bit color, each pixel's data contains three 8-bit RGB byte values, or 750,000 x 3 = 2,250,000 bytes".
In my example I have a 2304x1728 image. If I multiply those and take 3 times the product, the answer is 11.9 Mpx, while Photoshop gives "Pixel dimension" as 11.4M.
So now I have three questions
    1. Why the difference between 11.9 and 11.4?
    2. Are the three colors included in the definition of pixel dimensions? Are there actually 3 pixels (i.e., red, green, blue) for every point in the 1024x1728 array of an image?
If you blow up an image on the screen, you see each pixel having one out of 16.777M colors, based on the relative weights of the three colors. But it is one pixel.
    3. What am I missing?

  • Specify pixel dimensions of project?

I'm very inexperienced with video editing. I'm trying to make a simple video for the web in Premiere which syncs images and an audio track. I've used AfterEffects and I'm experienced in Flash and Photoshop. I'm pretty lost in Premiere, though. How do I specify the pixel dimensions of my sequence? I want 800x450. Since I intend deployment to be the web, what other options should I specify? I assume I need to specify square pixels and a web/screen color space somewhere?
    Thanks.

  • Ipad 3 Pixel Dimensions

    2048x1536 is a 4x3 pixel dimension just like 1024x768.
If I watch HD movies(1280x720 or 1920x1080) on an iPad the picture should have to display letterboxed(black bars on the top and bottom) unless the image is cropped to fill the screen.
    Am I missing something?

  • Pixel Dimensions math

I'm uploading vector illustrations to a stock site. They want an RGB JPG file of the vector that is 2800 x 1900 pixels, or the equivalent pixel dimensions. They say that since 2800 x 1900 = 5.32M, the image can be any size, as long as the hieght x width are equal to or greater than 5.32 million.
So in the attached screen shot, why are my pixel dimensions 15.2M instead of 5.32M?

    SneakerG,
While I would never presume to speak for guru Chris Cox, who has been writing Photoshop code for some 16 years or so, the fact that I have no connection to Adobe allows me to agree with you publicly that the Image Size dialog box appears indeed to be mislabeled on its face.  That "15.2 M" figure should read 15.2 MB.
The pixel dimensions are evident:  2800 pixels wide x 1900 pixels high = a 5.32 Megapixel image file.
Now, to get the Megabytes you multiply the 5,320,000 pixels by 8 bits x 3 channels.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabyte
The megabyte is a multiple of the unit byte for digital informationstorage or transmission with two different values depending on context: 1048576 bytes (220) generally for computer memory;[1][2]and one million bytes (106, see prefix mega-) generally for computer storage.[1][3] The IEEE Standards Board has decided that "Mega will mean 1 000 000", with exceptions allowed for the base-two meaning.[3] In rare cases, it is used to mean 1000×1024 (1024000) bytes.[3] It is commonly abbreviated as Mbyte or MB (compare Mb, for the megabit).

  • What Is The Best Image Pixel Dimensions For iPad 2 Photographs?

I just purchased an iPad 2 64Gb.  I want to add photographs to my iPad.  I want the photographs to completely fill the screen but still be small enough to use the minimum amount of memory space.  A smaller image size will also make them more responsive when navigating between images.
Does anyone know the image pixel dimensions that I should use to have the photographs  completely fill the iPad screen?  I am assuming a resolution of 72 pixels per inch is sufficient because the screen is essentially a video screen.
    Thanks!

  • Custom cropping using pixel dimension

The banner image module for my website requires images cropped to 940 x 400 pixels. When I use the Custom cropping function in PSE 12 (on a Mac OSX 10.9.2), it only shows a cm dimension. Can I do a custom crop using a pixel dimension?

You should just be able to type 940 px and 400 px in the width and height fields
Another way is to use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and use Aspect>Fixed Size then enter 940 px X 400 px

  • How do you find the pixel dimensions of a photo to embed in Illustrator CC?

We recently upgraded our software from CS3 to CC. I'm having trouble determining the pixel dimensions of the photo I want to embed in Illustrator. In our old work flow, we simply clicked on the object in Illustrator, and then opened a new document in Photoshop, and it would retain the dimensions at our document size in Illustrator. It was then a simple matter to paste the photo into the box, position and crop and save as a PSD file and then place in Illustrator. That does not work any more in Creative Cloud. The object downsizes to 72 DPI while retaining the resolution setting. We need to keep our Illustrator files to the minimum, so embedding larger than needed files is not possible.
I've researched a bit and I see others with similar problems, but I haven't seen a workaround or a way to determine the pixel size. Document info in Illustrator gives the 72 dpi pixel settings, even though the document is set to reproduce at 200 dpi.
This is something that used to be so simple I didn't think much of upgrading. Now my workflow is horrendously long. I have to rasterize the entire graphic and then crop what is the inset photo. If there is a simpler way, please tell me. All the literature is backwards, about placing an already sized PS image into Illustrator. I need the other way 'round.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I think I have a workaround: Make sure the clipboard settings are on 72 by cutting and pasting a 72 dpi file in PS, as it seems Illustrator images are seen that way, no matter what the output resolution is. Click on Photoshop and start a new document. It will retain the proportions of the Illustrator image in 72 dpi. Then open image size and make sure the resample box is checked. Change the resolution to the desired, in my case 200.. Then place and crop your photo, and save the PSD file. Open Illustrator and place the PSD file. This works for me.
