Pixelated Pen Tool Diagonal. Help? Thx!

In Illustrator/CS6, I've drawn a diagonal line with my pen tool and then changed the stroke to 14. The line looks pixelated. Onscreen. Immediately...before I export it to any other type of file.
In Preferences: I have "Anti-aliased Artwork" checked.
Under Rasterize I've tried a few settings, including 300dpi.
I've tried what older posts recommend, to no avail:
Opt+Cmd+Y
Simplify Path
Under Effects>Rasterize...make sure it's 300dpi.
I checked Appearances: I only have stroke marked there...nothing else funky going on that panel
I had to laugh when older posts suggested the person with the pixelated lines was just nit-picky. I'm nit-picky too! And so is my client, who just wants a straight, clean diagonal line.
The odd thing is that I've exported this pixelated line as an svg...scaled it and printed it 6-feet tall...and it looked great. But onscreen - in my .ai file and in the various forms you can export it to for web use - it looks rough.
Here's a screen shot, but it's hard to tell from it unless you zoom in. It is not hard to tell on my .ai file, though.
Help? Thanks!

Your monitor has to use pixels to display anything. No matter how straight and precise the vector path is, the screen will always show pixels. The greater the pixel density of your monitor the less noticable pixel edges are. Until there's some massive innovation in display technology, this is merely how things work. You should trust that vector is vector and will be output as smooth, straight paths. You could always upgrade to a 4k display if it bothers you that much. It won't remove the issue entirely, but will greatly improve the pixel display of the monitor.

  • Pen Tool Path HELP!

My Pen Tool path does not show while I'm using the pen tool. It wouldn't be that big of a deal but I can't see which points are where or where my ends are to connect them. I must have accidentally shut them off with a command or something but cannot find a command that would actually do that. Does anyone know what happened?

Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver!

  • How to create a wavy line with the Pen Tool?

Let me start by saying that I am a novice to Adobe CS4, including PS.
I am trying to follow this tutorial: http://www.rnel.net/tutorial/Photoshop/11541 but I can not even get the pen to draw wavvy line. I keep get a straight line. To say the least, I am only able to complete creating the file.
How do I create a wavvy line or lines using the Pen Tool?

  • Diagonal Jagged Pixelation With Pen Tool and Sheared Typefont

Hey guys, so I'm in the midst of making a type based logo right now and I sheared it to give it a bit of a diagonal edge. However, the diagonal lines are now noticeably pixelated and jagged. What I did was type out the name in the logo, then created outlines for it, then sheared it. I went over some of the lines with a pen tool stroke but it is still coming out the same. Here is my logos. The vertical diagonal lines in the E, K, R and I's are especially noticeable.
This is my own personal music producer logo and I am pretty green with illustrator. So how do I make it as clean as this http://www.iamgrimsby.com/19614/1986395/logos/makj or some of these http://www.ruudvaneijk.com/logos
Any Help would greatly be appreciated! Thank you guys so much!

Hey Thanks for your help guys! So I gave downsampling a shot but it still ends up looking pixelated. The diagonal line on the E especially. I originally sheared this font to make it look italicized, but the shearing is creating this issue.
Is it maybe just an issue of not using the shear function? When people use diagonal font do they typically just use the italiczed version of the font and not shear to achieve that look? If there is no italicized version of the font, am I just out of luck ?
When compared side by side with pro logos such as here: http://www.ruudvaneijk.com/logos and http://www.iamgrimsby.com/19614/171236/logos/alesso, the logos are just much cleaner and professional looking. How do I achieve this super clean professional look? Am I just not working with the correct size or DPI?
Here is another sample of my logo. Please help me guys. Thank you so much!

  • Diagonal line through the pen tool icon and blocking it's use.

I am trying to change a map.ai file. When I click on the pen tool and move the cursor to the map it shows the pencil tool with a diagonal line through it prohibiting me from using it. How do I get rid of the diagonal line and use the pen tool? In addition, at the top of screen underneath file, edit, etc. it says "No Selection" on the left side. This must relate to the problem as I can use the pen tool with a new *.ai file.
    Thank you for your help.

Scott Falkner suggested I unlocked all 13 layers. It still did not work. Now what?
    Thanks,

  • My fireworks pen tool stroke always pixelated

Is it normal for the pen tool to produce pixelated jagged edges?
When ever I use the pen too and create curves the edges look very pixelated and cheep. I tried illustrator and that seemed to produce nice smooth edges like i'd expect.
I always though fireworks was a vector based tool and that vectors = smooth.
Is there a setting or something that I can change to make the drawings smooth?
    I'm using Fireworks CS5 on windows 7.

First, check your Zoom level and set it to 100%. For whatever reason, Fireworks often opens a document at less than 100% zoom, and this creates very bad looking results on the screen. You can find the Zoom level in the lower right corner of the canvas or go to View > Magnification. You can also use the shortcut Command-1 to set it to 100%, or Command-minus or Command-plus to decrease or increase zoom.
Second, realize that Fireworks is basically always in Pixel Preview mode. It's committed to showing you the pixels that will be rendered upon export as a bitmap. This is different from Illustrator, which was designed for print, first and foremost; Illustrator is not committed to a single output format and instead tries to render vectors as smoothly as possible on screen, at all zoom levels.
Third, check your Stroke settings in the Properties panel. This is not likely the problem, as the default is 1-Pixel Soft, but it's worth checking. If you're working with strokes larger than 2px, you can adjust their softness somewhat using the Edge slider. You can try different Stroke presets or experiment with their parameters using the Advanced options (available under Stroke Options, at the bottom of the Stroke presets dropdown menu).
Hope this helps! I do think it's a shame that Fireworks doesn't offer better rendering at zoom levels other than 100%. I've written about this before—it basically uses something like a Nearest Neighbor interpolation algorithm to render zoom instead of a smoother-looking Bicubic algorithm—and submitted a feature request to Adobe regarding the issue, but haven't heard anything.

    charmi,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • HELP! Illustrator CS2 pen tool problems

    Hi, All
    new to the forum...great resource...
I'm having a problem with my CS 2. Specifically my tools are acting weird..
The pen tool will not allow me to place points where I want them, or adjust the handles with any finesse. When I go to place a point in a certain spot, and click the mouse, a point appears nearby but not where I want it to. Then, when I try to move it, or adjust its handles, it only will go where it wants to...not where I'm telling it to go.
I can select objects, but cannot place them where I want them!!!! ( I can get close, but no cigar!)
    This is most frustrating!....
    I have re-installed the program.
I have also restarted the computer.
I have not trashed my preferences folder....not sure where that is or if that might be the problem.
Can any of you guys (and gals) help?!?
    many thanks in advance
    JP

    DUH!
Thanks very much JET.....that was exactly it.....though how it got turned on, I dont know....(couldnt have been anything I did!!!) lol

  • Pen Tool/Anchor Point Help

I often draw/trace things using the Pen Tool.  I start with an anchor point (A) then click to make another (B), then I drag the first handle away from the anchor point in order to make a bezier curve.  The problem comes when I need to continue the path to another anchor point (C) after the curve.  If I don't move the "dragged" handle, then it warps the continued path to the next anchor point (C).  What I have been doing to remedy this frustration is switching to the Direct Selection Tool then moving the "dragged" handle over top of the previous anchor point (B).  Please tell me there is an easier/faster way to do this...
    Many thanks in advance!

  • My pen tool isn't cutting my selection! Help...

    Hello,
I've been trying to cut out a part of a circle using the pen tool.
Usually, I add the points, right-click and make selection, then just hit delete and it disappears.
However, now it isn't doing that - it's blurring the selection, almost as if I've rubbed it using smudge!
    Here's my selection:
Then, I right-click, make selection... and when I hit delete, instead of the selection disappearing, I get this:
I haven't knowingly changed anything, can anyone help me figure this one out please?

    Hi:
You must have had your document on a Background layer because in Photoshop CS5, if you have a selection and press Delete, you get the Fill dialog box set to Content Aware Fill.  However, if you press Command Delete, then you will excise out the selection as desired.

  • Need help with Pen Tool Stroke.

    Hello,
Since my friends have been trying to teach me how to make swirls using the pen tool and stroke, i've been the only one who cannot do it. I make a path with the pen tool, I right click then click Stroke path however, it just seems to do nothing. I get the option but when I click on it, it doesn't do what its meant to. I am doing it exactly how my friends are doing it too, thats whats frustrating. I have had so many problems with Photoshop, im a beginner.
I have been able to resolve this problem by clicking on Paths on the right to the layers, but I can't use the simulate pressure feature, unless there is another way.
Also, if there is any tutorials anyone could link me? Im hoping to set up a business when im old enough, for creating logos and facebook covers and im not sure how to go about this.
    Thanks guys
(I use Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7 from Creative Cloud without a tablet.)

    Hi,
Have you installed the latest updates for photoshop cs6 by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6?
Resetting the photoshop preferences might possibly help as well:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
If you use the method that you mention where you do it from the paths panel (right click on the path thumbnail in the paths panel) and then click on the Simulate Pressure, you also have to have
one of the pressure options enabled in the the Brush panel (Window>Brush) such as under Shape Dynamics>Size Jitter and then set the drop-down to Pen Pressure before using Stroke Path.

  • Need help in using Pen Tool

    Hi,
I am trying to draw a nice curvy BOW using the pen tool.
How can i draw a nice curvy stroke using pen tool with thickness control.
Can any one help me ?
    steve

    Steve,
I am trying to draw a nice curvy BOW using the pen tool. How can i draw a nice curvy stroke using pen tool with thickness control.
Can any one help me ?
You may draw the spine of the bow with the Pen Tool and apply a custom made Artbrush to it; the Artbrush should be a fill no stroke shape reflecting the relative thickness along the relative length (the thickness (height) of the brushed path will be the thickness of the brushed stroke at 1pt Stroke Weight, and the length of the shape is arbitrary, so it can be set to 8, 10, 100, or whatever, because the brush strtches to the length of the path).
And you may draw half the bow, reflect (Object>Transform>Reflect) and distribute (Align>Distribute), and join the halves.

  • Help with using the pen tool

I have a few different problems with the pen tool.
    1. When using the pen tool I keep finding that the shape I'm doing is slightly overlapping where I've already gone with the pen tool.
If I try and go over that area again the path I've just drawn then jumps and ruins the shape I was creating.
How can I stop this from happening?
    2. Also is there a limit to the amount of paths you can create and add text to? I created two paths and typed on them fine but when I added a third path it refused to type. The cursor didn't change to show I could type and if I did click on the path line and try to type jumped to my other path and typed there. All paths were on different layers and none were overlapping, but it is 3 circles inside each other that get smaller if this makes a difference.
How can I type on the third path?
    3. When I have done a path and clicked stroke it is only a thin line. How can I make this line thicker?
    Thanks.

Ok, the first example would be something like this. Pretending the lines go elsewhere, say I've drawn a path with the pen tool, gone round the bottom box and that then goes round the two lines going down. So if I go down the one on the left side it hits the previous path I did, but to go up the line on the right side I'd need to go across there. But if I make a point where the two lines meet to do this it then throws the line off elsewhere.
I did have snap vector tools on but it does that without it on.
The next one I was creating a car speedometer so it has lines on the outside, dots inside of that and then, where I've done the blue circle, would be the third path where I then write the numbers in. But I can never write on that third path.
And finally, the pen tool and I think it dd have Shape Dynamics set. I've changed a couple of things and it looks a bit better now so I think that should be ok. Thanks
I know I haven't shown the panels but I haven't got any for the first as it won't go right so I deleted what I was doing. And each thing I've done is on a different layer for the speedometer, all just paths created with the circle tool with the text on.

  • Pen tool wont snap to existing paths - PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
