Planning Area to Data Store Object (ODS)

Hi,
The data source is the Planning area and the target is the ODS object. The transfer rule mapping is 1 to 1 for all key figures, there is no routine used. After executing the info package and data transfer, I am checking the value in ODS update table.
One key figure for a CVC is always showing less value in ODS update table than the planning area value. I checked the extractor check in RSA3, it shows 10 records for a selection condition, but the ODS update table shows only 9 records for the same selection conditions. 1 particular record is not updated in ODS upate table.
Kindly advise to overcome this issue.

Hi,
Did you compare the data in PSA? All 10 or less and how about Keys for your DSO? Try making all Key and load.
Why do you need DSO for Planning? Aren't you aggregating ?

you are facing a issue with your source system 'myself', check and repair it. Also check if the communication user (normally ALEREMOTE) has all permissions needed.

BW Analytical Authorisations and Data Store Objects

Hello All
I am in the proces of trying to figure out how BW Analytical authorisations work as I have to build some authrisations for a new a new BW project.
I understand the concept of BW Analytical authorisations. I have created an object linked to heirarchies via an info provider, and assigned it to a user and it works great. The problem is that I then went and ran a generation for heirarchies and I specified the Z info provider my analytical authorisation object was linked to. Now I find that all usrs on the system have access to my object and I need to remove this. Even new users on the system automatically get this access.
I have read note 1052242 which explains that I can remove the authorisations using data store objects (DSOs). The thing is that I do not know how to maintain these DSOs..
Can anyone help with this. Once I know how to maintain the DSO I can add in the required D_E_L_E_T_E entry and re-run the genration and hopefully this will solve my problem.

if your question is how to update data into a DSO, then I recommend you read the documentation.

You require basic BW knowledge for that.
If your background is more ABAP then think about making the DSO a DSO for direct update.
That way you do not need BW knowledge and you can use ABAP instead to modify the data in the DSO.
These Function modules of the API can be used:
●      RSDRI_ODSO_INSERT: Inserts new data (with keys not yet in the system).
●      RSDRI_ODSO_MODIFY: inserts data having new keys; for data with keys already in the system, the data is changed.
●      RSDRI_ODSO_UPDATE: changes data with keys in the system
●      RSDRI_ODSO_DELETE_RFC: deletes data

the basic differenece between ODS and infocube is that ODS has overwrite facility while info cube have additive facility.
cube has 16 dimension while ods has three dimension.

Error while Data Store Object activation

Dear Guru's
    I'm new to BI 7.......
    I'm trying to load data to Data Store Object from PSA through DTP and it was successful upto newdata table. But while activating the request to active table the total status of the request turned as red and in DETAILS all the messages were in green.
    Kindly let me know what could be the problem.

Error while loading data in data storage object(ODS)

Hi,
I am extracting data from data base with help of DB connect.I can see number of records are added into ODS.but when I try to activate data in ODS, its going to red.When I see error message as followes.Its is saying invalid char,when i see data in PSA , each and every record is Green.
1)Value 'closed' (hex. '0063006C006F007300650064') of characteristic STATUS_SC contains invalid characters.
2)Error when assigning SID: Action VAL_SID_CONVERT table CATG_CHG.
3)Activation of M records from DataStore object SC_CHNG terminated.
4)Process 000003 returned with errors.
5)Process 000009 returned with errors.

load the dat from PSA & into ods. Then select the errornous data in PSA and edit it for the info object STATUS_SC . (It say lower charectaristics. Check if the source system values.
1. If that is true then chage the value in PSA then load the PSA data to cube.
2. Else in the transfer rules write an abap code (ABAP ROUTIEN)(to upper).

Hi Naveen,
Check the Source System connection and Run program RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIAVATE_ALL in SE38 and give your Source system ID and Infosource. If you have infosource. or replicate your datasource.
and also Check the BW self System whether it is active or not. then try activating DSO

Delete a request from the Data Store Object,

Hi Experts,
We recently upgraded our BW3.5 to NW2004s and I tried to load data into my DataStore. I am trying to delete an invalid request and it does not allow me to delete it.
Can someone help me with this?

Try deleting this request from the PSA as well.
On DataSource -> rc -> Manage
Find the request number and delete it.
Also go and delete it from DataStore Object.
Next time when you run DTP you wont have this request.

With Java Persistence, are DAOs (data access objects) still needed?

I have just looked at the Java Persistence tutorial and it says each table row of a database can be represented as a Java Persistence entity instance.
The definition of an "entity" is very much like how you would define the class of an equivalent DAO.
So I am wondering... should DAOs still be used ? or can persistence entities completely replace them?

I am saying that if you use JPA then you will not be making a DAO class, for example if you have a Person.java object you will not need to make a PersonDAO.java object.
For example, if using JPA you Person.java object would look like this example below...
Of course, the classes that call person object may need to call some JPA manager APIs or some JTA transaction APIs. If you use EJB session beans to call the JP{A entity then you dont have to have any code, as ou can see here

Data Store Object Activation failure

Dear Friends,
I have a DSO which gets updated directly from flatfile. DTP seems fine, but activation of data in DSO is failing continuously. The error message is as below,
"Error when using the dynamic structures during SID determination"
I cross checked data in file and masterdata, everything seems correct. Even I deleted the request and repeated the load couple of times, but failed to get any positive result. Could anyone please tell me how to solve this?

Hi Neo,
We have one setting in DSO level "SID" Generation check that check box is selected or not. if it's selected uncheck that and reload and try again.
And also check any special charcters in that file you find the error in ativation log only.

Hi Ganesh,
In SNP you do not have to go to RSA6 u can create datasource in S&DP Administration>change planning area>Extras-->Data Extraction Tools.
from there u can do all the settings and can as well test.so there is no use of either RSA6 or RSA3.

Multi-planning area when updating an infocube

Hi,
I work on a multi-planning area based on a transactionnal cube (C1) and a standard cube (C2). I have to add a characteristic in the standard cube.
Since this change, a planning level has problems : it is only used by calling a function module : API_SEMPS_GETDATA. This function returns no data whereas the cube contains data for the selection filters of the level.
It's all the more surprising as I have another multi-planning area based on another transactionnal cube (C3) and the same standard cube (C2), and for the level of this multi-planning area, the data are returned from the API_SEMBPS_GETDATA function.
The multi-planning area has not changed. I can't understand where the problem comes from.
Has anyone had already dealt with a problem like that?

Hi Agnes,
double check your selection criteria when you define the planning level or package. If you call API_SEMBPS_ADHOCPACKAGE_SET then selection needs to be passed in external representation which might be different in your case.

time series is usually a Demand planning concept(and used in SNP as well but in SNP its predominantly the order series that plays a main role)
time series is a general concept in statistics(and forecasting) wherein the value of a key figure is represented in a time bucket
Time series gives you an idea of the gradual change in the values by time and the relation of the future based on the past
planning area in APO (and other tools) tries to represent this as a 2 dimensional model with time on the columns and key figures in the rows. the value that you load into the cells that are formed by the above are based on the characterisitic values you choose from your MPOS which is linked to the way the values are stored in the planning area
The planning area stores data for each key figure in the smallest unit of time(technical storage buckets) and the lowest level of characterisitc value combination

Error on activation of data records from ODS object

Hi Prabhakarreddy,
As many days as you like:
In the PSA you can keep data as long as you like but you will need more and more disk-space. So its advisable to clean up from time to time.
Example:
PSA's from full loads Clean up in a weeks time,
PSA's from Deltas: Clean up after you are sure data is correct. (e.g. a month or 90 days)
Remember that you cannot do a reconstruction from dataloads of which you have deleted the PSA. If some thing is wrong you will have to do an Init again!
In ODS's you must keep data in order to keep your delta loads to cubes in order. Removing data will force you to do a new initial load.
Sometime companies delete old data form ODS's that is older than a certain period (e.g. more than 3 years old) by running a selective deletion. You will have to do an init again. But loads and activation may run faster and of course you gain on disk space.
