Planning DB Connection vs. Essbase DB Connection for DTS

Hi,
We have built a application in Hyperion Planning (Version 11.1.1.3) and I am now working on creating Hyperion Financial Reports. I have a question about the kind of database connection that should be established in order to avail Dynamic Time Series members in financial reports to obtain YTD/MTD/QTD values. What I understood from FR Admin Guide is that to avail DTS values, we have to create Essbase connection (and not Planning connection). My doubt is that although we have created application in Planning (and we refresh to Essbase), will there be a problem if I create an Essbase database connection for a Planning application?

Usually for reporting it is recommended to connect to Essbase. I guess the reasons are
Some performance issues, and some reporting requirements based on Attribute dimensions etc.
I don't think that anybody would connect to planning for reporting(FR)

Have you checked all previleges that you are using for login through EAS?

Database is up. All the services are running fine.
There are not changes in Servernames.
This error is occuring in all the environments. Dev, QA and Prod.

Error connecting to Essbase Server when running business rules

We recently migrated from v9.3 to v11.1.1.3. I have two users with Administrative access who need to run business rules on a native Essbase application, but cannot. They get the message 'Error connecting to Essbase Server'. They get this message when trying to set this execution database. They can't even expand the server to see the list of applications. I have tried deprovisioning them in Shared Services, refreshing security, then adding it all back in and refreshing again, but it doesn't work. My own id has identical access to that which I'm granting them, and I have no problems. I even created a native user with the same access and it works as well. No matter what I do, I cannot get these two users to be able to run their business rules in EAS.
We also have a Planning application, and the Planning Administrative user has the same issue. However, this user is able to get around it by running rules using the Planning connection rather than the Essbase connection. She has the same issue of not seeing anything under the Essbase Servers when trying to set the execution database though.
In version 9, we were not using Shared Services for Essbase security. Unfortunately our consultant chose to set it up using Shared Services security when migrating, and according to the documentation, one cannot go back to using Native Essbase security.
I also tried running the Externalize Users wizard and the three users with issues failed to externalize. My own id did, and the native user I created succeeded.
Has anyone experienced an issue like this or have any ideas on how to resolve?

Follow up - Oracle has finally resolved this. It's so simple, yet no one thought to check until now. The three users with problems all have mixed case user id's in ldap. They have always logged into EAS with all lower case ids. In version 9, on native security, this was never a problem. But in version 11 using Shared Services (not sure which factor changed it), it doesn't work. The simple solution is to log in with their exact mixed case user ids. It only took Oracle three months and the creation of a bug issue to figure this out for us.

HBR Error connecting to Essbase server

Hi,
Getting an error " HBR Error connecting to Essbase server" while selecting the outline in create new business rule.Tried the below workaround,but still getting the same error.
* Copy the HBRServer.properties from AAS (<HyperionHome\Hyperion\AdminServices) to the Planning Server
(<HyperionHome\Hyperion\HyperionPlanning\AppServer\InstalledApps\...)
* Restart the services.
* Login to Hyperion Planning application. Connect to each application at issue to establish RMI connection.
* Log into AAS, Refresh security from Shared Services
Any solution/ workaround could be of very helpful.

Are you trying to create a business rule for planning or essbase, the error message you have posted is for trying to connect to essbase and you usually get that message if essbase is not started or unreachable.

Yes, you are correct. Due to invalid credentials only i am getting this error.
I want to ask you one thing. Actually, at the time configuration i gave password as a password, then my manager wants to change that password to Gxxx@123!
I have changed that password, it is working fine to connect workspace, easconsole and all.
But the issue i seen in creating DataSource(In planning), i am getting error with new password in the Essbase server datails. If i give old password(as password), it is working fine.
So, How can get that new password to work here??
In ODI also, it is the issue. When i am using New password it is not working. With Old password it is working fine.

Unable to connect to Essbase via EAS after server re-ip

Hi all,
One of our environments have had the servers moved to new IP addresses. The DB server was completed changed so I had to reconfigure the environment, using the same databases, and redeployed all the components. Everything worked apart from EAS. It would not launch from the URL nor would it work if the console was installed on a server or PC. I logged an SR and it was suggested to update java which I did but it made no difference. A remote session yielded nothing. I decided to uninstall EAS and reinstall it dropping the tables in the DB and having them recreated as we use calc man for Planning. The EAS console now launches but I can't connect to Essbase. It just hangs and complains of an invalid log in. I tried the native admin account but that made no difference. Here is an extract of the logs

EAS is installed on the same server as Planning, APS, RA etc. essbase is on a separate box as are the sql databases so in all 3 servers for this environment.
Essbase is definitely started as I can connect to it using EAS from another environment and retrieve database from the apps in excel.

If you are able to connect to Essbase using EAS from another Server or PC. and in that Server only if you not able to connect to Essbase using EAS
it is Java issue only. (Ensure ESSBASE.EXE process is there in Essbase Server)
Which version of Hyyperion you are using??
Uninstall Java and install again.

Unable to connect to essbase server with Smart View

Hi,
I'm having trobules connecting Smart View in order to make some adhoc analysis, however I could perfectly establish connection with Planning and navigate through web forms in excel.
The address I'm using to connect to Essbase is: http://<server>:19000/aps/SmartView and the planning url is http://<server>:19000/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
I've been already using those urls in other server with version 11.1.2 but now that I'm trying to connect to a server with v11.1.1.3 I just can't. Whenever I connect to Planning in order to see the forms a prompt appears with the message saying that "I'm connecting to a server with an older version" but I could perfectly work with the forms. When I connect to essbase, I can see the Applications but I just can't make any adhoc analysis.
Could anyone have any idea of what could be happening?

Thanks for your response, I've already checked that port and keep getting the same message "Common Provider null datasource error". I can see the applications but can't get any further than that, no analysis adhoc, no smart slice, only disconnect :(

Can't connect to essbase in Config Util when trying to config Pln Datsource

Essbase seems to be running OK. I stopped the process and started it again via start menu.

i know its not a problem whit my carrier o data plan or sharing preferences on the ipone because when i use it un my laptop it works perfectly through
the usb and even works on the Imac through wifi and bluethood tethering but NOT through usb!!.
the problem is that trying to make it work i deleted the "profile" usb iphone on the network prefereces panel. Now i only have 3 options: ethernet / wifi / bluetooth
but not the usb iPhone i used to have.
And when i try to add a new one i dont get a USB option.
can some one help me please??

Cannot Connect to Essbase Server Using MaxL

After installing and configuring planning. I was able to create data source and application. When I shot down and restart the machine. The diagnostics report highlighted these srrors
EPMVAL - 01010 can not connect to Essbase server using MaxL
Network Error - 10061 unable connect to oracle.vision.com:1423. the client timed out waiting to connect Essbase Agent using TCP/IP

BIEE connection to Essbase

Hi everyone,
I have two essbase sources E1 and E2 . I am able to import data successfully into obiee through E1 datasource. When I tried to define Essbase source to BIEE with source(E2), I got the following error message when I performed 'import' action, i.e., BIEE Administration Tool > File > Import > from Multi-dimensional database:
Essbase error 1051085: You do not have sufficient access to get this substitution variable
Any suggestions on the problem?

Admin user. This ensures that substitution variables available on the Essbase Server are imported.

initialization block that is used to retrieve substitution variables and their values. Additional

Problem with Microsoft SSRS connecting to Essbase

Hello specialists,
I'm having an issue when i try to connect SSRS to Essbase.
My SSRS version is 2008 R2, Essbase version is 11.1.2.1 OS version is Windows server 2008R2 and I'm running SQL server 2008 R2.
I'm using the XMLA connector from SSRS to connect to Essbase, The message error message i get back when i preview the report is this one:
+"An error ocurred during local report processing. cnnot read the next data row for the dataset "year". The server sent an unrecognizable response. Unable to Format XML according to declared type. Input string was not in correct format."+
Previously I was using another Essbase instance to connect to the server and it was working alright, when i changed to the correct one, the one form the specified server the error appeared.
When i test the connection with the new server it works alright. Here are the versions of the analytic provider services:
11.1.2.0.0.615 - The one that's not working
11.1.2.1.00.353 - The version that is working.
Hope you can help me because the old machine is about to be disabled and i will have to stop my work if I don't happen to get the new connection working asap.
