Playback is green sometimes in WMP

I've got a weird problem that I can't seem to fix. I've got a MSI GF4 MX440, and when i try to play back certain video files in Windows Media Player, the picture is almost completely covered by green. It looks like the scrambled porn channels on my cable system. This has only happened with AVI files to this point.
The OS is WinXP SP1 with all the latest updates. I have the latest DivX codecs installed. I have the latest drivers for the card from MSI. I have the latest version of DirectX installed. I have tried changing the hardware acceleration settings in WMP to all possible settings. I even ran the WinXP system file checker to see if it was a problem with windows. Nothing has fixed this problem.
The files themselves are not at fault; i have played them back on other computers to make sure, and they are fine. Additionally, this only happens with certain AVI files, and never happens with any others. For example, File "X" will play correctly 100% of the time, while File "Y" will never play correctly.
This problem is extremely perplexing. Nothing I do seems to change it at all. Please help!
My system setup:
MSI KT4 Ultra-BSR, Athlon XP 1600+
256meg Kingston DDR333 RAM stick
MSI GF4 MX440SE-T
3Com 3C905B-TX NIC
SB Live! 5.1 MP3+
NEC MultiSync A500+ Monitor

What version of WMP are you using right now? I dun think that it is your AGP card problem... Maybe you should try and consult Microsoft Technical Support... I have WMP 9 on my system and sometimes it gives me very irritating sound problem during music playback and I found out that it is a small conflict between my sound driver and WMP's directdraw sound properties...
All the Best...  :D !!!

  • Itunes video playback has green screen

When I try to play videos in Itunes all I get is a green screen. I have tried almost every fix I have found but I can't seem to fix it. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 5160 running XP. My video driver is a XGI VolariXP vs.2.116DELL. My hardrive just recently corrupted, and I can't remember how I got rid of the green screen before.

Everything seems to be pointing towards the video drivers ... it might also be worth checking if you're getting similar sorts of green screens with your WMP, as per the following Microsoft document (they've got some suggestions we haven't looked at yet):
[The screen may appear black or green during playback when the Windows Media Player control is embedded in a Web page|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909554]
... but, I've also been checking on the Dell website, and it looks like there could be some strange issues that crop up for folks if the drivers on your Inspiron model are reinstalled in the wrong order after an operating system reinstall:
[Technical Support for Inspiron 5160: How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order|http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c =us&docid=1A0C0937D62A8739E0401E0A55174744&doclang=en&l=en&s=gen]
... so I'm not sure which of those two directions it would be most prudent for you to pursue next. (We're pretty much at the extreme edge of my technical competence with video things now, and I don't want to put you wrong, Sportsman.)
So, if nobody else here drops by to contribute any additional advice, I think it might be a good idea to check in with a Dell technician for an opinion on what to try next.

  • Battery Indicator .. sometimes green/sometimes white

I love my iPhone. But I just noticed that on the main menu screen, the battery light is white. When I open an application (depending), it's fully green.
    Green in:
    SMS
    Calendar
    YouTube
    Maps
    Clock
    Settings
White in all the rest. Including the main screen before you slide to open. Stats all look fine. What gives?

Normal. No worries. That's the way iPhone displays the battery.

  • Texting to other iphone users-sometimes green, sometimes blue

it used to always be blue.  Now it shows up as my email address sometimes, and other times as my name.  I want it to be under my name but when I go to iMessage, it is on, and I can't delete my email address from Recieve At or change it to my phone number.  What am I doing wrong???

Not sure where I need to look in Messages for my number. It is in Messages/Preferences/Accounts
Yes. Messages > Preferences > Accounts > select your iMessage account.
Is your iPhone number listed in the You can be reached at section and the Start new conversations from dropdown?
Not sure about the relay setting. How do I go about setting that up?
After I set everything up when I opened Messages it asked if I wanted to relay SMS and sent a verification code to my iPhone that I then had to enter in the prompt on the Mac.

  • PLEASE Help. Green Screen in Video Playback and all Video Files.

Hello to who ever can help a hand out. I feel very stressed by this whole problem. I have a documentary movie that has been finished and edited. I only had to add a couple more parts to it to finalize the film. However when i went on my computer today, (last time being last week. Where everything had worked properly) all the video playback is green. it has audio of all the video files, but the video shows up green in the playback and the viewer. Any idea what could have happened. (last week i added a 5 jpegs thats it!)
Please anybody with any suggestions, I would be very greateful.

Lots of folks with similar problems. Do your clips play ok in Quicktime Player ? have you done any updates lately.

  • Video thumbnails scrambled, won't playback (v3.4.3)

My video thumbnails in Aperture (version 3.4.3) are scrambled. Sometimes I can see part of a reference thumbnail frame (often in monochrome or with a single color overlay, like green), sometimes it's just all snow.
    1) I just restored my mac mini from a time machine backup.
    2) I also just imported an iPhoto library
If I browse to a pre-existing (before Time Machine restore) Aperture project, the correct thumbnail appears briefly before changing to the scrambled version.
When I select the video for playback all I get is a blank Viewer window (not video content, no controls, no playback).
If I browse to the source file via finder the video thumbnail displays and the video plays back correctly.
    I have tried:
    1) verifying and repairing disk permissions
    2) repairing Aperture permissions
    3) repairing the Aperture database
    4) rebuilding the Aperture database
    5) regenerating thumbnails (select video Photos->Regenerate Thumbnails) (thumbnail changes, still scrambled)
I don't use Aperture often so I'm not 100% sure when this started, but it seems to be after this current restore as supported by the brief correct appearance of old video thumbnails before they update to the scrambled version.
    OS X 10.8.2
    Aperture 3.4.3
    Example of affected video:
    IMG_0002.MOV
    QuickTime movie
    5MB
    640x480
    Duration: 00:11
    Capture Source: iPhone 3GS

I suggest to check the video codecs you have installled; if you use Perian or have a flip-camera, you may have an incompatible video codec installed, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4155
Why was a TimeMachine restore necessary? And did you use any helper/uninstaller/cleaner utilities, before you made the backup or after restoring? Sometimes this kind of helpers remove too much. I  this case you may need to reinstall Mt. Lion to restore missing system components, that are not included in your TimeMachine backup.
Have a look at this thread Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion,
and also at the post: Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion in the same thread.
To reinstall from the "Recovery partition" see Linc Davis's post here: Re: Garageband doesn't open in Mac Mini mid 2011

  • Premiere Pro CC(V.8.0) sluggish and crashes during Playback

    Issue:
Premiere Pro CC(V.8.0) extremely sluggish and crashes during Playback. My video won't play at all unless I render (which is no problem). I render all my clips and attempt to play it back. It usually will allow me to watch it the first time around. After that, the program freezes up or becomes extremely sluggish. I have even had a blank green screen pop up on my playback monitor. Sometimes the program will generate the message "A Serious Error has occurred" and will shut down. Other times, the program just locks up. I am not running any other programs except email.
    Here is what I've tried:
    Cleared all my cache files
Set my Mercury Playback set to "Software only"
Restarted the program and computer after doing the above.
Made sure I had no RGB Curves as an effect (as I did see that was an issue from other threads)
    Deleted all unused footage
Deleted all render files and re-rendered everything.
I am editing footage that requires Ultra Key. I am using a Three-Way Color Corrector. My video isn't even 1 minute long, so I would think it would be easy to render and playback.
Here is what I am working on (I know I need an upgrade - was hoping to after I finished this client's project):
    Macbook Pro 2008
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

  • Dropped Frames w/ Ae Dynamic Link Comps Using BMD (on Playback)

    Hey guys,
This problem started exibiting itself a couple weeks ago. Hoping for some feedback regarding possible problems other than just bad performance with my BMD Hardware.
The following is the system it's occuring on:
    2009 2.93Ghz/16GB 8-Core MacPro
    Adobe CS5 - Latest Updates
Internal Raid 0 - Footage Files
    Internal 7200RPM - Project Files
    Internal 7200RPM - OS
(all drives at 50% or more current capacity)
    Stock GT120GFX
    GTX285
Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 3D to HDLinkPro
2 Monitors (1 to each GFX card)
1 Plasma monitor out of the Decklink
Now that's out of the way, here's the scenario:
Using Blackmagic Design sequence presets in Premiere and Dyanamic Linking AE comps in the Premiere sequence . Playing back the sequence results in CS5 stopping playback because "Dropped Frames Detected"
This ONLY occurs in the following situations:
    - with any BMD preset
    - only unrendered (yellow) timeline comps
Rendering the timeline (sot it's green) results in uninterrupted playback
The comps have no problems in AE
Premiere exhibits no playback issues outside of BMD presets
Premiere exhibits no playback issues with other footage
All fingers point to something internal when in a BMD preset. But could a drive be failing? Something else?
    Thanks.

Shouldn't this be normal behavior for a Dynamic Link AE comp? If it's dynamically linked, it means it's not rendered, so Premiere is trying to play the AE comp in realtime (like hitting the play button in AE without doing a RAM preview). If the comp in AE is simple enough that it will play realtime in AE without doing a RAM preview, but still will not play realtime in Premiere on a BMD timeline, it could be do to the RGB to YUV conversion. AE only outputs in RGB, while a Decklink card (unless otherwise set in the preferences) outputs in YUV, so it needs to do a RGB/YUV conversion when playing the AE comp, and that can slow things down.
I use a Decklink card and I find if I have a Dynamic Link comp in Premiere that stutters on playback, it will sometimes then play realtime after the initial playblack. I'm guessing Premiere might be caching the frames similar to an AE RAM preview.
Todd, I believe the playback resolution setting is ignored on a BMD timeline.

  • IMac 24' green & magenta vertical Lines will not boot.

Firstly let me say Hello all ^_^ Secondly, I hope this is posted in the right forum.
The problem started a few days ago when my iMac went into screen saver mode and the whole screen had frozen and become pixlated with squares and a general scrambling of the screen, noise, grain, etc.. It wouldn't awaken from it's slumber so I did a hard restart.
The familiar friendly chime greeted me but the screen was covered in Vertical Green lines that are full of pixels, moving almost like static. The apple logo appeared and the spinning gear but that stopped spinning after about 20 - 30 seconds.
When I tried to boot into Safe mode this happened to the Apple logo (after about 3 or 4 mins)
The apple genius' are booked solid till next Thursday (27th) so I decided research and trial an error were my best options.
The following are the steps I have tried and where I am currently. Sorry for the lack of punctuation, etc...
On startup, Chime sounds, green vertical lines with what appears to be static, sometimes with Magenta in.
    Apple logo appears
spinning lines lock up after about 10 seconds. Freeze.
Will not boot into Safe mode (by holding Shift after chime)
Will not boot from Mac OSX disk (by holding C after Chime)
Tried zapping the Pram (Shift, option, p & r on chime, Wait for 3 chimes)
Removed RAM 1 at a time tested in other slots, no change.
WILL enter into single user mode (holding Shift & S after Chime) so ran fsck twice to receive the Hard drive OK message. PHew Hard drive is OK then.
Reboot from here, same Vertical Magenta and green (sometimes just Green) Lines with static, Apple Logo, Spinning gear and freeze.
So connected with firewire into target disk mode. (connect mac book pro to imac using firewire cable and hold down the T key on your target computer, in my case my iMac) This essentially makes the imacs hard drive into an external firewire drive. Hard drive OK. Backed up. YAY. (most relieved to get back photos & current work)
Thanks for bearing with me on this epic post. ;);) and thanks in advance for sharing the knowledge.

Maybe this is a little late since this was last year but I thought I would post what the actual problem & solution was.
I took the iMac into see the Genius' and as it turns out it is indeed the graphics card. Luckily enough for me my iMac was just before they started soldering on them onto the logic boards AND it's one of the known faulty Nvidia Cards, which means a free repair, (luckily)
It took about 2 weeks to repair. when I recieved my iMac back unfortunatly there was lots of fingerprints inside the screen. Let it be said that the Mac store in Oxford street are the fairest of all, as instead of taking the machine and re-repairing, they replaced the whole iMac for a new one.
I hope anyone with this problem, or any other, has the same level of care from Mac as I have had.

Occationally my printer is printing green instead of black.

    Hi @tobby37 ,
I'd like to help you with this issue, the black is printing in green sometimes. You have changed the cartridge and are having the same results.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try these steps to see if it will resolve the issue.
'Ink cartridge problem' Message Displays on the Printer.
    Please disregard the title.
Are you using Genuine HP Cartridges?
    What are the ink levels?
Please let me know if you require any additional assistance.
    Have a fantastic day!

  • No playback in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello,
I am learning from a training book for Adobe Premiere CS6 using a trial version, and there is always a problem with playback where the clips don't play when I press space bar or the j,k, and L keys. I am using the minimum requirements on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and I understand it's not good to edit from USB which I am doing. However, is there any way to fix this playback issue? Sometimes it plays when I change the audio hardware settings.
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Pro CC & OS X Mavericks Audio Buzzing & Audio Playback Issues

Working on the latest version of Premiere CC version 7.2.1 and MAC OS X 10.9.1. I am experiencing a really loud disturbing buzzing/cutout sound in playback. I have tried changing every audio setting possible on my mac and in the Premiere CC Audio/Playback settings. Sometimes changing the audio hardware or playback preferences fix it, but only for a few minutes. This is beyond a deal breaker for me. We need a fix for this, been dealing with audio issues with Premiere since CS6, nonsense.
    Machine Specs:
    Intel Quad Core 3.5ghz
    Nvidia 680 GTX

    Editing:
Canon 5d Mk iii h.264 footage.
Please someone help me with this, im deep in a music video edit and dont know what to do, im working at a snails pace on a really fast machine.

If the problem is limited to  audio transitions, then you're probably hitting a bug that was introduced in 7.2: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5945929#5945929. A fix went into 7.2.1. For projects that you worked on in 7.2, I believe you need to clear the cache and, possibly, the preview render files.
Several users have reported that the fix in 7.2.1 did not resolve the issue in all cases.

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5949129#5949129
I don't know what the status is on any bugs that remain in this vein. If all else fails, your best bet may be to revert to 7.1. Unfortunately, that's not as simple as it could be. See the instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5823746#5823746
