  • Official PlayBook OS v2.0.1.668 Announcement and Breathing Life back into a Dead Battery

    Where is it?!
Well, you can go to the software update page and discover that the only thing RIM indicates the update does is provide a security update for the Adobe Flash player,
    http://ca.blackberry.com/support/tablets/playbook/software-updates.html
The details can be found here.
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB31675&sliceId=1&cmd=displayKC&d...
That said, it would appear speculation related to wifi and browser improvements (among other things) is very subjective and likely as varied as individual user experience. Here’s a quote from a Crackberry News & Rumours Post
    http://crackberry.com/whats-new-playbook-os-201668
Frankly, this sort of commentary drives me crazy. What company would make the kind of improvements identified above without documenting them for their existing and future customers, if they were real. Is it that we're all so desperate for good news from RIM that we have to make it up? If anyone can find anything official behind the article's claims, feel free to post a link in response.
A couple things do still confuse me though. Some users are claiming that the new OS v2.0.1.668 version has been pulled. My Playbook upgraded to this update without any issue on the first try. Didn't take hours and the whole process seemed quite normal. Smooth as molasses.
Didn't notice anything weird at all until last evening, a few days after the upgrade. I pulled off the charger cable and looked at the battery and it was 0%, dead as a door nail. Perhaps the magnetic head of the fast charger wasn't seated properly. I turned off the Playbook and then attached the fast charger. Left it alone and went back about an hour later and it was still at 0%! It was acting like it was still losing charge and getting weaker. This is not typically the case, so I shut down wifi, turned off backlighting, put it into airplane mode and tried again. No change when I checked back later. At some points, I couldn't even get it to boot to the main screen, just battery empty symbol, at best.
I read on this and other forums how others were having problems after teh update. Erasing their Playbook and reloading OS. I couldn't even do that, because the Playbook has to have enough power to update the software through the Desktop. While I could connect and see the device via Desktop, there wasn't enough juice to do anything at 0%. It seemed that there were folks holding the battery button for 10-20 seconds claiming that worked, but it didn't do anything for me.
To say the least, I was getting pretty ticked off after reading the forum and discovering that the battery issue I was dealing with might be related to a pulled OS upgrade that had screwed my Playbook. Proper QA and testing should preventthis sort of blunder. Even more ticked, if the update has been pulled and RIM has not made any official statement that I can find to that effect! If they have pulled it (which I still haven't been able to personally confirm), this information should be publically available and explained. The one thing they need to do is look after any loyal customers they still have left. Personally, I have loved my playbook, although RIM has definitely botched a great piece of hardware with inadequate software enhancements to the OS, that continues to this day. The fact that we still can't categorize browser favorites in folders at this point is inexcusable. Anyway, I digress.
Back to the battery. Here's what I did after about two hours of snarling and becoming increasingly frustrated with my dead playbook and not being able to find any way to breathe life back into it. I remembered what happens to my rechargeable batteries for my xbox controllers when they drain dead. They simply won't charge. They become un-rechargeable. I eventually figured out via an obscure internet posting, what no retail clerk or xbox support person seemed to know. I returned more than my share of brand new unrechargeable batteries, because they wouldn't charge when drained. This is what I discovered. You take the dead controller with battery and connect it to the charging cable. It lights red... but after 13 seconds it goes green. If you leave it connected it simply will not charge. Originally, I concluded I had a faulty battery that would not recharge. Not so. You must pull the cable off. Light goes out, connect it again. Light goes red, 13 seconds turns green. Pull the cable off. Light goes out, connect it again. Light goes red, 13 seconds turns green. Pull the cable off. Light goes out, connect it again. Light goes red, 13 seconds turns green. Pull the cable off. Repeat until you figure there is no point to this exercise, and then do it one more time. Pull the cable off. Light goes out, connect it again. Light goes red, 13 seconds later it stays red and doesn't go green, it stays red. Might be the 5th try, 20th try, 30th try, who knows, but eventually the xbox controller light will actually stay red and not switch to green and will then recharge. It's almost like each previous failed connection provides a bit more juice to the battery, until it has enough to finally be rechargeable again. Come back in a couple hours and what appeared to be an unrechargeable battery is fully charged.
So I took my Playbook, Turned it off. Connected cable. Light turned red, then turned green. Disconnected cable. Held power button to shut playbook off. Connected cable. Light turned red, then turned green. Disconnected cable. Held power button to shut playbook off. Connected cable. Light turned red, then turned green. Disconnected cable.  Held power button to shut playbook off. Connected cable. Light turned red, then turned green. Disconnected cable. Held power button to shut playbook off. Not sure how many times I went through this painful exercise. Maybe 15-20. Maybe I only needed to do it 5 or 10times. Maybe I didn't need to do it at all.
Frankly, in the course of doing it, it seemed like I was almost draining the battery more. I think there was a point where it almost was dead and wouldn't even light up. That had me spooked. By pressing and holding the on button and connecting the cable, I somehow got the red light to come on, then switch to green and it began pulsating. At this point, I didn't want to push my luck. Left it alone and went to bed. Got up this morning and it was alive and 100% charged. It went into an automatic reboot. The wifi password had to be re-entered and saved in order to get connected back to the internet, but everything else seemed to be fine.
I’ve used it solid for one hour and the battery dropped to 80%. This felt like a much faster drop than in the past. It's been in standby mode for an additional two and a half hours since and it is now at 60%. I never shut my PlayBook off. I keep mine in standby all day, with the screen on lowest brightness and wifi typically on. Do I think that the latest update has had an impact on battery life? Well, my Playbook originally died and ran out of charge, when I had it attached to the fast charger! Can't explain that right now. I suppose I could have improperly connected via the magnet and this was my own user error. Could be just coincidental that this happened to me after the update and at the same time others are complaining about battery issues. Personally, it does “feel” like my Playbook is draining faster in standby mode than it has in the past. I have my eye on this and if it goes dead again, I'll repost. Obviously, my recharging "technique" worked for me, so if it helps breathe life back into your battery dead playbook, I'd be interested to know.
If RIM has actually pulled the update and not updated their own web site to reflect a battery issue and not officially disclosed a known problem to their customers it would be at best totally unprofessional and at worst inexcusable. I'm still not sure what to make of everyone's comments and issues, when RIM still lists the v2.0.1.668 update on their corporate page.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

RIM exec Michael Clewley confirm that 668 was pulled because it has upgrading issues with Playbook with OS 1.0.7 --- and that is the ONLY reason why it was pulled.

  • My BB Playbook doesn't charge and turn on. Nothing can solve this problem. Please help!!!!

    Hi everybody!
My BB playbook doesn't charge and turn on.
When I tried to charge it,  at first ,the red color appears for 10 seconds and after the green color starts blinking several times. And that's all. Every time when I am charging it the same thing is repeating. What should I do in this case???
If someone knows how to solve this issue please HELP!

    Hey LM344,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
If you're receiving the flashing green LED light, it sounds like the BlackBerry PlayBook battery is completely drained.  I suggest plugged the BlackBerry PlayBook into the wall charger for several hours to get a charge again.
Let me know if the issue still persists after charging it after several hours.
    Cheers.

  • Sign in failed - Unknown server error (-2) when trying to sign in to new playbook

I get the message "Sign in failed - Unknown server error (-2)" when I try to login to the Blackberry ID page of a new playbook during initial setup. This prevents me from continuing and using my device. A similar error message appears when I tap "Forgot password?" which is An unknown error has occured. Please try again (-2)
I have tried what others have done when they have unknown error (-6) which is turn off playbook and plug into desktop manager then update to reflash, but I continue to get the same error.
I know my BB ID username and password are correct because I can login to the web with them. Not sure what to do next.

Just to test the simple things first, did you try to sign in using another credential?
If only yours fails, then is a RIM issue, otherwise is indeed your Playbook failure.

  • Playbook data wiped out!...

I am here not to improve anything -- BlackBerry!  I am here to perhaps save someone from what happened to me today.
It is my back up day of the month.  I connected my Playbook to my PC.  Cannot connect!  I thought that perhaps this is because I have upgraded to Windows 8 and now the desktop software is not fully compatible with the new OS!  BB Desktop offered me to repair...  Of course, why not, that is the normal thing we all expect in that situation.  I need to back up!  And without a connection, I cannot back up all the notes I took so far at work and videos of my ever quickly growing 3.5 year old son!
Process started!  Than asked me to update my operating system, that is also expected and nothing out of the ordinary -- I said "yes" to  UPDATE!  It said that it may take an hour or so!  "I have time" I thought to myself!  At the end of the waiting, it started to teach me how to use my Playbook.  My heart started racing.  It cannot be!  I didn't see any warnings that my system was about to be wiped out to factory clean state!.  Before I touched anything, I called the technical support.  The poor guy confirmed my fears.  My pictures, notes, videos, even the sound recordings of the consultation I had with a lawyer recently for which I've paid hundreds of dollars is gone!.  Why did I record the conversation?  Ironically -- So that it would cost less if I spent less time recording instead of taking notes hence cost less!  I don't know what else I have lost but now I have to go around the surrounding cities to my customer sites to take all those pictures of the service equipment again which  I have lost.
To summarize what we have here:
    1. Repair didn't mean repair, it meant replace,
    2. Every software company ask gazillion times if you are sure that you want to wipe out all your data, RIM doesn't follow those conventional s..t for some reason I, for the life of me don't understand why,
    3. Process doesn't give the user a chance to back up his/her data.  Why?  I d o n ' t k n o w!!!...
    4. A company like RIM who started making things for seripous customers -- businesses, where the risks to RIM's own business is very high don't have a f..ing quality system such as ISO that costs nothing to implement or they have it but implemented it the way they implement their installation/maintenance procedures.
    5. Support person was extremely nice but when I told him that he should step on the breaks, do something, pull the alarm cord, do whatever it takes to save the unexpecting people behind me, he said that he cannot do anything!!!  Go figure the company culture and its creators.  Where are these people coming from to become managers at BlackBerry?
This is it for me.  I am sick of waiting and hoping and being optimistic about this Canadian success story to turn around.  Everything they make or do lacks something.  I am done!  I will make sure everyone around me is also done with them.  If you cannot run a successful company with all that money, all these brains that you have hired and can hire, you have to be an **bleep** to fail.  You have been failing since the Bold 9000, perhaps even before!  By the way, I have been in IT business since 1992.  I don't need lecturing about any of these - I know how everything works  and what the problem is in your caves.

I feel you pain. This situation has happened to a few people. I am sure that this particular problem will be eliminated soon, hopefully with the upgrade when the PlayBook gets the full OS10 upgrade later this year. Reminds me of the time back in the early nineties when my oldest son spent a whole day on an assignment without saving it, only to receive the Blue Screen of Death with Win 3.1 late in the day.

  • Playbook crashes network when using 80211N networks

Hi. I am having issue getting my PB to work correctly on 80211N networks. I have tried with both a generic DLink router and a brand new LinksysWRT310 router. My configuration is Siemens SE567 Modem/Router with an uplink to my Wifi/Lan network. When I am running Mixed mode (B/G/N) all my other devices have been working flawlessly. As soon as I put the PB into the mix, it causes outages across the network and begins dropping constantly. Impossible to use. If I throttle it back to mixed (B/G) there are no more issues.
    Things I have tried:
Delete connection competely and reset manually (i.e. setup fixed IP and gateway)
Tried WPS on Router and PB.
Tried downshifting from WPA2/Personal to WPA/Personal
Throttling MTU down to 1356 from 1500, and Changed the beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306
    Turned off Wifi firewall
None of these has resulted in any greater stability.
Here is a copy of my logs trying to use the N connection. Any assistance is appreciated.

Sorry, I can't tell help you. You seemed to have done all the correct steps. There have been other posters having the same problem as you with 802n. You can do a search to see if you can find the post. You might also check out crackberry.com. In looking over your log, it looks like authentication failure. I have found that to usually mean there is a miss match of settings when setting the security protocols. In other words there may be a protocol you are using with 802n that will not work with your system. If you change that protocol setting if you have a choice, it may work. If you do have success, report back as to what you found.

  • Backing Up and Restoring the PlayBook

Ok, I've been playing around with Backing Up, Wiping, then Restoring the PlayBook and things don't seem to be functioning as smoothly as I would assume they should. My primary concern is that the data from the Contacts and Calendar programs are not getting restored and the setup information for any Email Accounts is also lost. The data from two third party Apps: Groovy Notes and The Vault is being restored no problem.
ADDED NOTE: The Stock Wallpapers and HD Video Demo have also gone missing.
    THE PARTICULARS:
    - On a Windows 7 Pro box running BlackBerry Desktop 7.1
    - 64 GB Wifi PlayBook running OS 2.0.1.668
    - Options set to FULL BACKUP (nothing else)
    - using a USB cable and connection
Other behavior that might, or might not be related:
    - I did a switch device from 64 GB Wifi to 4G LTE model and the same data was missing
    - the BB Desktop 7.1 software can't seem to accommodate more then one PlayBook at a time, meaning that if I Sync or backup one tablet, then attaching the other tablet via the USB cable will cause the device listing of the previous tablet to disappear. It's like it won't allow me to have more then one tablet as a listed device.
    Thanks, Rob
My favourite show: BB10, The Next Generation.

"nothing changed" as in it didn't restore the deleted entries?
What I'm thinking is that the desktop software is designed more for BB phones and that there is such a difference in the Contacts and Calendar apps from the phone to the PlayBook (the PlayBooks apps being much more complex and interconnected) that the Desktop isn't equipped to properly backup the PlayBook, so it doesn't. If this is the case, then they should:
    1) let people know, because many may think they have a nice safe backup of what could potentially be a very large and valuable chunk of data, when they actually don't.
    2) Get working on an update of their Desktop software that properly handles the PlayBook - which they probably are, I would hope.
But all of this is just conjecture on my part, since nobody has responded to my query yet, other then you that is.

  • Returning playbook for repair

Can someone tell me what is an RMA - and where the heck do I find it?  Trying to return my nearly new playbook for repair and have had nothing but headaches.
    Thanks,

RMA, Return Manufacture Authorization, or something  like that. It basically authorizes your return of the device.
Call your PlayBook support number and go over the issue with the support tech and they issue the RMA.

  • Blackberry Playbook and library books

I cannot get the Digital Editions loaded on my PC to "see" my Playbook when it is attached so that I can download books from the library (it dos now show on the Bookshelf). PC says it is authorized.
    Thank you, Cherry

No, the Blackberry is not a supported device under ADE.   Your choice of
the term 'not native' could mean that the Blackberry is supported some
other way by ADE, which is not true.  Thus, there is no way to connect the
    Blackberry to ADE directly.
ADE does provide both library management and support for DRM-enabled
epublications.  As you point out, so do other software systems.  And
because there are other software systems that do support DRM-enabled
publications, plus other systems interface with your Blackberry, perhaps
you should look at those systems to use instead of ADE.
Yes, KOBO's desktop support for epublications is independent of, and cannot
    run with, ADE.
So, if you have alternatives, why are you asking how to interface ADE with
    the KOBO desktop?

  • App Downloads to more than 1 playbook

how do I purchase an app for one of my playbooks but download to all three I own.  Each Playbook is bridged to three different phones.  All phones are connected to one wireless billing account

You don't, legally. It is my understanding that 'most' apps are licensed to the device, not multiple devices.
However, certain developers could have different licensing agreements, but that is up to the developer, not the BlackBerry nor AppWorld. As it is, AppWorld will ONLY install apps to the device using the BlackBerryID for which that app was purchased.

  • Problems with AOL IMAP server connection on my BlackBerry Z10 STL100-3, and BB PlayBook 64GB WiFi

Problems with AOL IMAP server connection on my BlackBerry Z10 STL100-3, and BB PlayBook 64GB WiFi
    Thursday 4:20am EST, 02-19-2015
Hi, My connection to the AOL IMAP server has suddenly failed - Says "Not Connected" on Accounts page
I haven't changed anything and this just started failing this morning.
I've saw same issue on my Blackberry PlayBook 64GB.
Is anyone else recently experiencing AOL IMAP Errors?

Yes! Same thing happened suddenly to my Z10 this morning. No AOL.

  • Playbook WiFi does not work after update

Hi, my name is George and I am from Greece. I purchased recently a second hand Blackberry Playbook and the first thing I did was a software update. After the update the device booted normally but it couldn't detect any of WiFi (802.11b/g) access points that I have home and in my work (3 different hotspots in total). I searched on the support site for the problem and I saw that some others have faced the same issue and they fix it by doing a full wipe out (factory reset). So I tried the same with no success, now my device boots and I am unable to complete the first registration that can only be done via WiFi. I also tried to re-update the device several times using the latest Desktop Software, but the result is always the same no Wifi detected.
I contacted the Greek subsidiary of the store that the device purchased and they told me that I must contact with RIM central branch because the RIM support policy about this product (Playbook) is that customer gets support directly from them. The store that the Playbook originally purchased is Expansys France and I have scanned the invoice as evidence of legal purchase and valid warranty.
Please advice me how can I get support for the product because I sent an email and the reply tells me that I need to submit BlackBerry inquiry via approved channel Blackberry Playbook wifi problem. I don't know how to do this so if anyone can provide me with a link I will be grateful.
    Thank you very much.

You can find the Playbook support numbers here.
    www.blackberry.com/playbook   click on support
Finally, at the state you are now, find an open free hotspot (no password required, such as a Starbucks or McDonalds) to do this initial setup stage.

  • Adhoc wifi does not work on playbook but works on ipad

I bought several playbooks for my employees to use with our company phone which have adhoc wifi
the playbooks do not connect. My one employee said she could hook up her personal ipad to the adhoc.
Please tell me they are working on fixing this problem.
If I have to change all my cell phone plans to data plans it will cost quite a bit over the years.
In fact it would be cheaper to buy all new ipads. I would break even within two years.
The reason I bought the playbooks was because of the size and value.
But the value just decreased because of the adhoc inabilities.
I understand there is a security issue but that should be the consumers choice to make.

Just a comment about your remarks especially the last sentence.
As a Business Person, don't you feel you should use a secure system if you are handling consumers personal information such as passwords, account numbers etc. Are not hackers costing all of us plenty in the long run?

  • Playbook stuck in update mode

    Hello all.. need help badly!
Was in the process of adding blackberry desktop to a new computer (Windows 8); program went in fine but the Playbook was still connected and now it says that the playbook is not finished downloading its program and does not show that it can connect to PC?.
The PC says this "Setup hasn't been completed for the connected Blackberry Playbook Tablet. Disconnect your device and finish setting it up (or complete setup) then reconnect it to your computer."
It is stuck in the pick country mode but I can't pick a country because the keyboard does not work and there is no options on the drop down menu.
The Playbook has a Blue setup screen with "Agrreement" on the top. then a blank Country Box with blank drop down. Then it says "Unable to display the Blackberry ID Agreement. Please select your Country and language then try again"
It is definitely stuck in this screen.. tried restarting in different button configurations but it is stuck no matter what is done.. Does this need to go back to Blackberry or would some tech or do you have a miracle way to fix?
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Jeff

At any rate. got the Blackberry going again but it reset it and lost all the info, pictures and so forth.. oh well. at least it is still working.
    Thanks.

The app you mentioned has a 13+ rating. That is probably why you can't see it.

  • BB Playbook not connecting's indirect solution found :-D

    Hi BB community,
I bought a PB a couple of months ago, and it was working well untill the last OS update.
So here was the problem:  BB Playbook recognized by DM but not seen in PC's MY COMPUTER as a drive. If you can't see Playbook as a drive, you won't be able to access your stuff on your PB. I tried everything to solve this but could find any solution or someone who could help me.
So here is a solution I found:
Step1: tap the settins botton located at the very top-right on the PB screen, or you can just swipe it and let it appear.
Step2: Go to Storage and Sharing.
Step3: Set USB connection to Windows or what ever platform you are using, then scroll a bit to the bottom and turn File Sharing "ON"  ( IF YOU WANT YOU CAN TORN ON WIFI SHARING AS WELL, TI WILL ALLOW YOU CONNECT YOUR PlayBook WIRELESSLY TO YOUR COMPUTER AFTER THESE INSTRUCTONS, BUT DON"T FORGET TO PROTECT IT WITH A PASSWORD) and remember the password, you will need it at the final steps.
Step4: Turn your WIFI "ON" on the PB, then connect playbook via USB cable. If you don't have USB just Leave the WIFI "ON"on the PB and on your computer as well.
Step5: Now, Open MY COMPUTER on your PC, then click on "Map network Drive" located at the top-right corner of the MY COMPUTER window.
Step6: You should now have the "Map network Drive"  window open. Now, Select a drive Letter you prefere. It is normally on drive "Z". You can (Should) leave it on this letter if you want.
Step7: Now click on : "Browse" botton and a little window should pop up, you will see your Computer's name in the little window and.now wait a bit so that your computer can search and find your Playbook's name too ( If you don't know how to recognize your Playbook name, swipe your tablet on, click on the settings botton again, tap on "storage & Sharing", Now tap on "Properties" and you should have both the "Username" and your tablets name there) and Please remember your username, because you're going to need it for the other step
Step8: When you see your Playbook's name, double click on it, and now double click on "media". another small window will pop up, asking for a username and a password: Username is the one I asked you to remember on the previous step. The password is  password you set on your Playbook to protect your WiFi Sharing( remember I asked you at step3 to protect the wifi sharing with a password?. It is that same password). Only you know it. If you don't remember this, you should try to find what this password is. If you can't find it, you can stop right here and go on with life or try different passwords you use, you might get lucky...lol. or if you did not put a password for the Wifi file sharing then you can leave the password section on the window blank.
Step9: If username and/or password are correct, you should see the folders of your PB accessed. Now close all the windows on your Computer screen. now, Open MY COMPUTER, and your new drive "Z" is ready to use if you follwed all my steps carefully. You can use either the USB cable or the playbook's wifi connected to your computer do delete, add and transfer files between your computer and your Tablet. If this was helpful, please leave a like. Thanks :-)
If you need any help, if you need computer remote assistance. i will help you if I have the time.
    Thanks
