Playing .MOV files are choppy on DVDs

I record audition videos using the front face camera on my iPad 3 so it would be in the required 4:3 format and in pure .mov format (no conversion needed).  It plays fine even when I play it on my Windows desktop.  My problem is when I play them from the Standard DVD I burned them to it is choppy.  Sometimes the video freezes and the audio plays normally or the other way around.  If I replay the same video again it still happens but at different times.  I bought the iPad because I thought the issue was with the conversion from the camcorder mpeg format to mov format; but the video is now in pure mov format straight from the iPad.  If I copy the video from the DVD to the computer it plays fine so I know the file is good.  I have tried different brands of DVD disks and also different DVD burning drives, same result.  I have use the Windows burning app and InfraRecorder app, same result.  I am considering something like NERO 11 but do not want to get stuck with something else I do not need if it does not fix the problem.
Is there some magical procedure I need to do to get the videos to play smoothly?
Equipment at home: Win XP PC, Win 7 64-bit laptop, iPad 3
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
ijmolder

Now a technical question:  How does changing the Data rate affect the quality of the video?  I started with an 8x CD speed (2400 kbits/sec) but wonder if I should up it to a 12x or 16x.  Since I am not sure what speed DVD-ROM the viewer will have I do not want to go too high and end up with choppy video again. But then again, any computer (Apple or PC) now-a-days should have a ROM drive 16x or higher, don’t you think?
Not sure if you are referring to the burn speed here or the encoded data rate of the file. Slower burns usually better in terms of the "burn" quality which may make a differece to some CD players. Encode data rates improve video quality up to a point but, of course, increase the size of the file you burn to optical disc. I normally use an 8X burn rate for maximum device compatibility and limit encode data rates to the 4.0 to 5.0 Mbps range. This is about the same data rate range used on single layer MPEG-2 DVD players and usually provides a "quality ceiling" greater than MPEG-2 DVDs since the H.264 codec is more efficient.
Also, is the Video Data rate and Optimized for CD/DVD-ROM the only things I need to change?  I did not touch the Motion or Audio side leaving them at the default settings.
These two settings are the most critical since they determine how much data is packaged and how it is packaged. Frame rates, key frame rates, and other settings determing how data is distributed per unit of time but are more frequently used to improve the rendering of objects in motion or having complex motion vectors, better rendering of fades, change the "per pixel" data rates, etc. How you manipulate these settings is often a matter of personal preference depending on the actual content of the mendia and is frequently the reason why proper encoding is considered an "art" by some.

  • Imported MOV files are running choppy and I can't edit in the source window..anybody can you walk me thru how to fix?

My MOV files are choppy in the SOURCE window where I'm trying to edit.  Please help....I have a camera that I use for that is drone footage no audio and it imports fine; never choppy easy to edit.  Now I'm trying to import video from my Lumix; it's bringing in audio that I don't need but the files are choppy and am unable to edit.  Have been watching tutorials but I can't seem to fix the problem still.

Thanks for your patience with me.  I have tried what you mentioned and dragging the clips in question to the new item icon.  Sometimes it works fine and others it gets hung up again.  However, I'm used to editing when the file is in the source area (upper left corner ...see file attached...screenshot).  When I do the task you mentioned it immediately puts the entire clip before I edit in the lower right and it doesn't appear i can edit as easily.  Does that make sense?

  • Are there any digital/video frames that will play .mov files?

are there any digital/video frames that will play .mov files?

    Hi
Not understanding Your Question - I can only guess
.mov - are no specific Video Format (Codec) it is a container (read folder) and can hold Codecs many program can use and NOT.
QuickTime Player use to open many of them - try this and if it opens then Open Inspector [ cmd + I ] and read
    • Video Format (Codec): nnnnnnnnnn
    • Frame Rate: yyyyyyy
    What does they say
When QT-Players don't open - I use VLC-Player (Google it and download for free). It use to take most of the Codecs.

  • .Mov files are not playing on my Mac BookPro

As of this week, I am unable to play my .mov files through Quick Time on my Mac Book Pro.  A small windo appears and states that sometype of conversion is occurring and eventually some of my movie files will play.
I am at work creating a .mov file through quick time and the file will not play.

That's a well documented limitation of JavaFX. Mov files are simply not supported.

  • No video but sound when playing .mov files

I'm trying to play .mov files on my computer and I get sound but no video. I've installed the latest verson of QT and no help.
The computer is an older MBP.
    randalhillphoto

I should explain better. The mov files are exports from a 2-year-old MBP using FCP and exporting the files as self-contained movies. They were exported to use as an archive and saved on DVDs. Now I'm working on a 4 year-old MBP with FCE and trying to open the files with quicktime after downloading them from the DVD archives. I get the sound but no video. Please help me resolve this.

  • Satellite 1801 - Play movie file lagging with Windows XP

This laptop been format and re-install OS (Window Xp), the movie player are power DVD 5 player, real one player and jet audio are having the same problem.
Did any body can advice that I having playing movie file (such as .VOB, rmvb,..), lagging problem?
Even though total 512 MB was add into system.

    Hi
If your play the movies from a disk (DVD) then you should check the settings in deivce manager.
Access the device manger and check
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Properties -> Advanced settings
Here the transfer mode for Device 0 and Device 1 should be set to DMA if available.
It this is not the case then I recommend removing the Primary IDE Channel from the device list and to reboot the notebook.
The Windows should recognize this device again and then check again the settings mentioned above.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • Quicktime not playing .mov files

i have a problem with quicktime. it doesn't play .mov files. if i try to play .mov files that are embedded in a .pdf file, a window opens but stays blank, although the progress bar moves. if i try to open the files in quicktime, there's no window, just the progress bar that moves. i run the latest version. i've already tried reinstalling - didn't help, uninstalling completely and installing - didn't help.
    help?
    many thanks!

    Quicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *QuickTime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play .mov files.
    Click the OK button.

  • Problems playing .mov files in QuickTime 7.2.0

    Hey everyone!
I have a problem with my QuickTimePlayer.exe application. It will play all other movies just fine, except for .mov files. It will open them and play .mov files, the sound will be fine, but the video is extremely choppy.
I FINALLY got to play .mov files by uninstalling QuickTime 7.2.0 and installing the Vista Codec Package 4.4.8, which contains QuickTime Alternative. The only problem is that it doesn't come with QuickTimePlayer.exe, which is what I want my .mov files to open with.
After hours of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing codecs, I discovered that it wasn't a codec problem at all. It was the QuickTimePlayer.exe application that was the issue.
But what's weird is that the exact same version of QuickTime on another computer will run .mov files *WITH QUICKTIMEPLAYER.EXE!!* So there's something going on with some settings in my computer.
I can't seem to figure this out. Does anyone else know what the problem could be? Thanks in advance!
    Brent

I've discovered the problem!! It was the latest release of the NVIDIA nForce drivers that were the issue.
For as to WHY this specifically affected the playback of .mov files, I can imagine how. It's weird how the one thing you least expect to be the problem actually IS the problem.
Anybody have any idea how it affects it?

I've installed QT Pro, but am not able to play MOV files inside Windows Media Center Edition (MCE). Under "My Videos" from the MCE main interface, I can see the files, but once selected, error message indicates unknown/unplayable file type.

I don't use MSI's MC application so I can't directly answer your question.
However both Win DVD 6 and PowerDVD6 play them just fine by launching the ts.ifo file.
Yes, I know that, but that means that I should use at least two applications. I need only one front end to launch all my media files, inluding ripped DVD files, not as separate VOBs but as whole movies decribed in IFO files.

  • Automator only playing .mov files

I am working with Automator trying to create a simple video scheduling app. I created a workflow that ...
    1. Gets a specific movie
    2. Plays the movie full screen.
Everything is tied into iCal and seems to work well except that I can only play .mov files. mp4 files and .avi files will play in Quicktime Player but will not when called through this workscript/app.
    Any thoughts?

I'm not sure if this is even the right forum so I apologize if it's not.  Just trying to get an aswer about playing my .mov files.
I have the new Ipad and I have been recording videos.  I'm looking to get these videos online on my website.
What is the best way to put this on my website so there is a video player and all.
Right now I just added the videos online but there are no play, pause and rewind options and its just 1 big page of video.
Your question is somewhat ambiguous. How you place the files on your web site will depend on how you are creating/managing the web site and how you plan for viewers to watch them. This can range from simply loading the files to an online server and accessing the content directly by its URL in a compatible browser app like Safari or dedicated players like QT 7, QT X, MPEG Streamclip, VLC, or devices like the iPad, iPhone, etc. to embedding/calling specialized "viwers/players" from within the programmed web page.
Not being a web site programmer myself, I normally just transfer the content to my system and either copy the files directly to my server or use iWeb to publish the files to my server for more generic web site viewing.

  • Unable to play .mov files

I have my AppleTV looking at my Mac's iTunes to play files found in Movies.
There are a couple that do not appear in the list of movies displayed. I noticed that they are .mov files.
One is a small sized movie - 320x240 Quicktime movie file.
The other is one I was very interested in. Created with Canon 5D Mark II it created a .mov file 1920x1080 H.264 Quicktime movie file.
I noticed its seems that all the movies that are listed are mpeg-4.
    What't the issue?
    Thanks.

    See specs;
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
mov files are containers for video and can contain variously encoded formats.
You can play .mov files if they use the right codecs, but AppleTv cannot paly everything and in addition even with the correct codec, the files must be encoded within specific parameters to work.
You'll see from the specs that AppleTV cannot playback more than 720p resolution at 24fps officially - your 5DII files exceed those specs - they would need to be converted to playback.
The 'small Quicktime movie' probably uses an incompatible codec/bitrate - what is it?

What format are the videos that don't play.
WMV...Windowa Mwdi Videos you'll need the flip4mac component. Free trail:

Other codecs, Perian and it's free:
    http://perian.org/
Flash videos like the one on youTube. Adobe Flash comonent and it's free.
