Playing video clips

I have been recently finding that some vid clips wont play with my realplayer or quicktime? At one time, someone had given me a great suggestion of a player that plays most every type of clip but for some reason I cant find that player now. Any tips on players that are successful for you would be appreciated.

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear/play pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.2, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11, and should also work with 10.5.4.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 for Mac from:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first.
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player versions (v.9.0.115.0 and 9.0.124.0) in some cases conflict with Leopard 10.5.4, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2008-007. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be. You can read more about it here:
http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs:
http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again.

Is it possible to play video clips from a thumbdrive on my iPad without transferring them to my iPad first

    You can't.
Try uploading to Dropbox, Box.net or Sugarsync to play video.

The Nokia 3720 classic is a IP54 level water,
Not even close to good enough, LCD screen will crack, water will go in through the jack/charger ports..
The phone i describe has no external ports just 4-5 little pins which can't let water in or out of the device, the docking station will connect via these 4 - 5 pins for data transfer and recharging...., IPX8 standard, all the electronics are epxoyed with a glue to stop real bad shocks from drops and bangs, along with a silicon case and all the other preventative meausres means this little phone is going to outlive you.
in combination with heart rate external bluetooth connection, really what more could you want... only the Sonim comes close in terms of perfection but if it managed to pack all of above, then it would be simply wow... I don't think there's enough people who work for nokia who actually go camping, backpacking, hiking, i'm pretty sure that if i told them one day
on a holiday you might drop your phone into the swimming pool, ok fine it's a mistake but damn, there goes your $$$$ N7 or N900 or even a HTC or Iphone.... not this, you'd yell to the first person you see in the pool, hey mate can i have my phone back, don't worry about the water damage, i'll get it back on insurance after a small lie stopping the person from running off with it (in fear of the now useless mobile phoned killed by water, making an attempt to steal be useless)
The person gets their phone back and carries on about his day, it drops out of your pocket, how many times you ran over it because you happened to leave it behind the back tire. oh no i ran over my phone, the tough casing and the epoxy keeping it nice and safe, except for superficial damage cosmetic, the screen and phone should be working still able to make that call or send out GPS info....
Sorry nothing comes close by any company (except Sonim) in terms of what they can do... maybe even a portable charger turn it to recharge like on LED dynamos. nah maybe not.

  • Adobe Reader 9.0 Cannot Play Video Clips

As caption, my pdf file has some video clips inside. When I open the videos, after answer the trust issue, an error message pop up:
    Warning: JavaScript Window -
Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:
你的系統上未安裝任何驅動程式。(In English, No drivers is installed in your system)
However, I have already installed all updated video softwares, e.g. Quicktime, RealPlayer, Windows Media player etc. And the acrobat reader is the most-updated one.
What will be the problem? And to solve it?

Can you post the file somewhere. If we can load the clips, the problem
is on your system, if we cannot the problem is with the file or the clips.

  • Playing video clips within Photos app

I have a pile of video clips taken with a compact Sony player that outputs in MPEG1. Using MPEG Streamclip I converted a number of them into MPEG4 so I could view them on my iPad along with the photos taken at the same time.
The problem I have is that around a half of them will sync, display and play on the iPad - all older videos that were shot and converted at 320x240 resolution. The more modern ones taken at 640x480 will not sync to the iPad at all. With the conversions the only different thing I did was set frame rate at 24 per second, I think I did this will all of them however.
Any idea why the iPad will not display these bigger but still conventional res clips?
    Thanks.

In iTunes under the Advanced tab there is an item for Creating iPad and Apple TV version. You might want to try using that on the videos that do not play.

  • Unsupported Transport 461 = Inability to Play Video Clips

My QuickTime upgrade has turned out to be a major WasteOTime. It will play anything except the video clip off NPR (Human Voice Shattering Glass...) I'm trying to play. All I see when I attempt to open the file is the lower part of the QuickTime player, the words "unsupported transport" quickly scroll by and the number "461" settles into the info bar. "461" is the QuickTime error code for "unsupported transport." That seems to have something to do with my firewall, and Quicktime's recommended "fix" is to go to the Quicktime Preferences and under "Advanced" set Transport Setup Protocol to HTTP. I did all that and the same thing happens all over again. Yet if I go to the QuickTime site and try to play one of their clips there, no problem. It's also frustrating that no one else in the Apple community seems to have ever encountered this problem with Quicktime, which seems highly unlikely. Any suggestions?

I was able to take a look at this NPR video clip using a newly downloaded and installed version of Real Player. I will have to try the "repair permissions and restart" option down the line, but I have no doubt it will work. For whatever reason I still need to be reminded of such critical details. Thank you for that reminder!

  • Playing video clips from web sites ?

    Hi.
I am unable to view video clips from most websites. The frame with the video appears on the page, but I am unable to play the video clip. Why is that? And how can I get to view video clips from within the web page?
Thanks in advance for your help.

At the time the iPhone came out there was flash lite.
It was based on a 5 year old version of flash, would not play most flash content on the web.
Recently, adobe just released flash mobile 10 beta.
The demo I saw crashed the browser or caused very jeky scrolling on web pages. Also kills the battery.
Official release is slated for sometime at the end of the year.
Neither version provides a good customer experience, so why would apple use it?

  • IMovie refuses to play video clip backwards

Well I have this one video clip that I want to play backwards, but every time I use the effect, it renders, will play backwards while it is rendering, but once it is done it jumps back forwards. I have deleted the com.apple.imovie doodad, and have run disk utility, but to no avail. This is the only effect that doesn't work.
    thanks in Advance,
    T.J.

    Hi
iMovies up to version HD 6 - is for streamingDV from miniDV tape Cameras and via FireWire.
Due to the alient video type used all kind of strange errors will occure.
    • Convert Your
video to - streamingDV .DV (QuickTime .mov)
audio to - .aiff 16-bit 48kHz (no .mp3 or .wma etc)
photos to - .jpg (no .bmp etc)
and iMovie will run much more as intended.
or - use iMovie'09 (iM'08 far from as good as iM'09)

  • Satellite 2430-S255 turns itself off while playing video clips

My Toshiba Notebook Satellite 2430-s255 turns itself off within 5 minutes whenever I play streaming video clips from web sites using Windows Media Player version 10.0. I uninstall version 10 and used version 9, but there was no difference. Computer has 512 meg memory and 10 gig of extra space on harddisk.
There is no problem when I play DVD using the same software.
Toshiba support has been telling me that cpu is working hard and it heats up to cause this problem. I used fan to circulate the air, but computer still turns itself off.
    Can some one help.
    Jyotsna

    HI Jyotsna,
Any graphics activity will tend to make your notebook run hotter and will therefore need adequate cooling.
Check that your airways through the CPU heatsink are not clogged with dust and debris (lots of threads in this forum about it), and also make sure that there is sufficient air gap under your notebook to allow air to get in to the fan vents.
