Playlist Created by User Auto Sync Fear

160g classic. i set up the computer and did auto-sync. afterward, i wanted to clean up the library, so i disabled auto-sync. i have since created a playlist on the ipod and put music to it. now i want to auto-sync the ipod, but am afraid that if i do, i will lose the playlist. it states that all information will be erased. does this include the playlist i created? all the documents i find are about the smart playlists, but not about the ones created by the user. please help. i would like to return to auto-sync, but not have wasted hours putting my playlist together. thanks!

If you return to auto-sync, the playlist will be removed from the iPod but the songs in the playlist will not be removed from the iPod as long as they are in your iTunes library.
To preserve the playlist, what you might do before changing back to auto-sync is to add the new playlist to the On The Go (OTG) playlist -- highlight your playlist's name and press the center button until it flashes. Check to see that your playlist was added to the OTG playlist. You might want to go into the OTG playlist and save it. When you return to auto-sync, the saved OTG playlist should be copied into your iTunes library, at which point you can simply re-name the playlist. There is a bit of unknown here -- normally when you're starting out in auto-sync mode and you create an OTG playlist, the OTG list is copied into iTunes on your next sync. But since your iPod is currently in manual mode, +the OTG playlist may get erased even though you've taken the extra step of saving it on the iPod+.
Another option may be to connect your iPod to iTunes and leave it in manual mode. Then hightlight all the songs in your playlist and copy them and paste the data into a spreadsheet (like Excel). That way you at least have a list to manually re-create the playlist if the above suggestion fails.

  • Create Playlist folder without auto-sync.

Hello everyone. Here is the situation:
I have iPod touch and I'm using two my own computers (and this computers are in different cities) to transfer music to iPod.
Because of this I had to turn off auto-sync feature so I could transfer music without losing it from iPod.
Anyway, I have a lot of music and I like everything to be organized, so the playlist feature is for me.
But. I also have a lot of playlists, during my first ever connection to PC I was able to put some of these playlists into playlist folder (because auto-sync was on).
I find it very useful. But when I connected to another PC, being forced to turn off auto-sync, I discovered the unpleasant thing - I couldn't create playlist folders anymore.
Is there a way to overcome this? Is there a way to turn on auto-sync - so I could create playlist folders - without losing those tracks that are not in iTunes but are in iPod?
    Thank you in advance. Cheers.

Thank you for your answer. Still. I see no logical reason for that restriction, I mean, playlist folder isn't such a big (but very convenient) deal to make it available for manual "syncers". I feel like a criminal using manual music management: so many restrictions. =(
Well, I guess the only thing I can do is get them transfering (iPod2PC) software to copy all the music from iPod on my often used computer and turn auto sync on then.

  • HT1386 My latest playlist created in November is not syncing on my iPhone 4s. Can anyone give some tips? I have a MAC desktop and the latest version of iTunes.

My playlist created on my MAC in iTunes is not syncing with my iPhone 4s. The problem started in November. I have rechecked the automatic syncing but nothing happens. What am I missing?

Please read this article about snycing music using itunes. Please focus on what it speaks when outlining talking about syncing selected playlists artists and genres THAT is the setting you will need enabled to sync playlists to a mobile device.

  • Is there a way to auto sync playlists while manually managing your music?

I used to use WMP11 before I bought an iPod and used iTunes, and in that I was able to auto sync playlists to my Samsung dap, as well as being able to manually drag tracks/albums to it.
Since using iTunes, I have found it is not as accessible in this regard. Of course, you can opt to manually manage your music, but if you do this, it does not auto sync any info. This means that if I drag a playlist to my iPod and alter it at a later stage by adding more tracks, it won't alter it on the iPod unless I manually replace it with the amended one. It also means that any ratings that I set on my iPod do NOT get transfered to the tracks in iTunes when connected.
What I have done is set a playlist called 'iPod Tracks' in iTunes, and have dragged any extra albums to my iPod using that, as well as the smart playlist 'Top Tracks'. But the disadvantage of this is, if I drag a few songs from an album into my 'iPod Tracks' playlist, then later decide I want the whole album and drag that over, I end up with two of the same tracks in the playlist, which makes it look very untidy (although I am aware only one of each track will be on the iPod) so it is not ideal.
Surely there must be a way to auto sync playlists so that when you amend them in iTunes it does so on the iPod too, as well as manually drag over any extra tracks/albums you want without having a messy playlist work-around like I have done.
    Any help/ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no way to sync content back to itunes. As you are aware there are a couple of unsupported ways to recover your content, you will need to decide if your content is valuable enough to go down this route.
If so and you are not comfortable with the procedures, I suggest taking the unit to a data recovery specialist with mac experience.

  • HT1660 How do i create 3 different libraries for 3 different users to sync to? How do each person sync to their iTunes library's? When we sync now, all three people sync to my library

How to create and sync to 3 different peoples libraries on the same pc?

You can open iTunes while holding the Option Key and "Create new library." You can then name them accordingly. You will need to go to iTunes presences > advanced and uncheck copy files to iTunes library and afterwards drag the iTunes media folder back into the newly created iTunes library.
After all new libraries are created, and the content added to it, you will be able to open iTunes while holding the Option Key down and "Choose Library" and swap between the separate libraries.
A better way maybe to create each user their own account with their own libraries. Either way would work.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can't sync ipod because the playlist created could not be found

    Hello. Really need your help.
MY itunes library is more than the ipod capacity. I clicked yes when it said that it will create a playlist for me, but, I deleted that playlist. Now it wont sync.
I have tried making a smart playlist, but the problem is, the button on sync only selected playlist is not clickable. Help!!

Well... that checkbox needs to be checked in order to choose +Selected playlists+ below it.
So I believe you said earlier that on the iPod's +Summary tab+, the checkbox for +Manually manage music+ is NOT checked, is that correct? If it's NOT checked, you are using the sync feature. If it IS checked, you are loading the iPod manually, so the sync features are disabled, which may explain why that checkbox on the Music tab is not clickable.

  • HT1351 Why do my custom playlists created in my iPod disappear when I sync? They used to sync when they were called on-the-go.

Custom playlists created in the iPod used to be called 'on-the-go' and would sync to your PC.  Each time you created a new one it would be called on-the-go1, on-the-go2, etc.  Sometime ago there was a software update that allowed you to name them in the iPod, only now they don't sync to the PC.  They simply disappear.  It's as if there is only a one-way sync, from the PC to the iPod because if I create one on in the PC, it will sync to the iPod.  Is there a setting that will allow 2-way syncing?  I can't find one.  This used to work.

What version of iOS are you running on your iPod Touch currently? I assume you have your iPod set up to automatically sync with your iTunes library?

  • If I create 2 users can I sync two I phones to the coresponding user?

If I create 2 users can I sync two I phones to the coresponding user?

Yes.  You can sync two iPhones in the same user account.  As long as each has different name iTunes will keep them separate, although both must share the same iTunes library.

Used Migration Assistant to import PC files. It created second user account that won't sync with iPad.  How do I merge accounts?

It's next to impossible to fully merge two accounts on a Mac easily.
This being said, though, please take a look at "The Great Pondini's" site where this specific issue is addressed.  There should be information here you can use to get things sorted out.

  • I was told by the Apple store to create multiple user ids to control the content on my iphone. I did that and now I cannot find my original library with all of my playlists

I was told by the Apple store to create separate user ids on my windows computer to create a new library to control the content on my iphone. I held down shift and clicked i tunes and created the library. I was told you can switch back and forth. I cannot find the old library and all of my playlists. Apple really needs a better way for families to manage their libraries and devices. This is such a pain in the butt!

No, as I stated in the post this is the first issue we've had with the phone. No, this was not a replacement phone, this is the same phone I bought from the apple store in December and had not been serviced by anyone, it did not have any issues until last week.

Do iCloud and Wi-Fi auto sync create duplicates when work same time?
I assume iCloud should do same that "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" in iTunes does.
    How do they coexist?

Thanks for reply but somehow desagre as I just drow attention to the iTunes that Sync iCal Calendars indicates:
quote - Your calendars are being synced with iCloud over the air. You can also choose to sync calendars with this computer. this may result in duplicated data showing on your device.
    unquote-
Same about Bookmarks, Mail and Contacts.

  • Playlists created on iPhone disappear when I sync

    Hi,
I have my iPhone setup to sync my calendar at work & my music at home.
Work computer is XP 32 bit, home computer is Windows 7 64 bit
The new version of the iPhone software 4.x allows you to create music playlists on the phone - hey - great!
So far so good.. but when I create a playlist on the iPhone, then sync at work the playlist on the iPhone disappears. Remember there's no syncing of music on the work computer so why does it "appear" to delete the playlist??
So I go home and sync the music and suddenly my play lists appear in iTunes and on the phone again.
What will happen when I sink at work tomorrow? I'm betting the playlists will disappear again.

You probably included some podcast in playlist. There was bug that was fixed in iTunes 10.1/iOS 4.2 (http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?threadID=2564664). Try again.

  • Turning auto update (auto sync) off without connecting ipod to pc

I use my ipod with 2 different computers and beleive I left auto update turned on one pc. If I connect it will wipe out the work I have done over the weekend using my other machine. I deinstalled the ipod and itunes software and reinstalled both but the itunes still reflects the playlists and songs I had created prior to uninstalling and reinstalling. I am afraid to plug the ipod in for fear that I will lose everything if it automatically begins syncing. Is there a way to turn the feature off without plugging in the ipod?

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Another way is to connect your iPod and before it starts to sync, click the little X on the right hand side of the display beside the "Do Not Disconnect" message. The display is the little window to the right of the iTunes control buttons: iPod Interface
Or you could look at the method described in this link: How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
You won't erase your iPod if you heed the iTunes Warning dialogue box.
If at any stage iTunes brings up a dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in iTunes, press "No". Pressing "Yes" will irredeemably remove or replace all songs from your iPod.

  • How do I share playlists between multiple users?

I have successfully shrare libraries, but the playlists appear to reside outside the library.  I would like to keep a group (or all) the playlists synched between users.  Using Windows 8.

Per the users guide, a playlist you make on the iPod will sync back to your iTunes library on your computer.  One the playlist is in your iTunes library just sync the playlist to your other iDevices.
    From Users Guide:
    Create a playlist:
1 Tap Playlists (tap More first, if Playlists isn’t visible), then tap “Add Playlist…”
2 Type a name for your playlist, then tap Save.
3 Browse for songs using the buttons at the bottom of the screen. Tap any song or video
to add it to the playlist. Tap Add All Songs at the top of any list of songs to add all the
    songs in the list.
4 When you finish, tap Done.
When you make a playlist and then sync iPod touch to your computer, the playlist is
    synced to your iTunes library.
