Playlist Help

Hi, how do I create a smart play list like this:
"I have ramdom lists by genre where I select based on starts. Ex. more than 1 star, latin+Pop, not listened in the last 15 days. Then, I have special list for "top" ex. greater than 3 stars, latinpoprock, not listened in the last 15 days."
Is this possible?? I can't figure out how to make a smart playlist of more than one genre.

Go to file-->new smart playlist. It looks like you want two different ones?

My Rating, Is greater than, and then one star. Click the plus.
Genre, is, latin +
genre is pop +
last played, is not in the last, 15, days.
Do the same idea for the second one.

Trying to burn cd and itunes includes ebooks and movie to burn to cd - I just want the 18 music items on my playlist - Help???

I am trying to burn a music cd from a newly made playlist (18 music pieces in the playlist) When iTunes is compilling the list, I can see that it is including my ebooks and movies to burn to the cd and this action is confirmed when itunes says that there is not enough space on cd
I have tried the process with older playlist and get the same reseult (it was so much easier and there were no problem before - when there was a burn to cd button)

i have the same problem how do i fix?

HT4913 I got a new computer and have an old iPod that I need to add to "manage my device" and cant seem to get it added. When I originally plugged in my iPod to my new computer, it ended up erasing all of my playlists.Help

I have an old iPod that has all of my music and use my personal computer to keep iTunes on and store all of my music. Recently my old computer died and had to get a new computer. I got my iTunes restores on my new computer and see all of my music, but when I tried to sync up my old iPod (love it!), I ended up erasing all of my playlist. In my "manage my device" I see my iPhone, my iPad, but I do not see my iPod. How can I add my iPod to "my manage my Devices" and get it synced up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW - Somehow I was able to restore my iPod back to Factory Settings.

There are lots of ideas floating on the web for this particular issue - all of which I tried. I had the same problem and it turned out to be my USB cable. I thought the cable was fine as it would charge my phone and play but the data transfer pin was bent. I replaced the cable and it fixed the problem. Worth a shot as it is an easy fix!

NEED PODCAST HELP AND PLAYLIST HELP!@#$

A)I just upgraded my 20 gig plain to 5g 30 gig. I downloaded video podcasts like nba playoffs and abc news(free you know). It comes up on my itunes library and I then dragged it onto the Ipod. It appears. Fine and good. Disconnect the ipod and its nowhere on the entire ipod. I read alot of forums before writing this and I tried alot but not working. Its set to tv out off and My video tab on ipod otions is grey because i use two comps and had to set songs to manual download.
B)My old Ipod had helfull buit in playlists like top 25 and recently. Here only itunes has but not on the ipod???

Welcome To Apple Discussions!
Make sure on your iTunes settings that you have your iPod on "Update Videos Automatically"(or something like that). IF it still doesnt work then I suggest that you simply reset the iPod or restore it.
Reseting iPod:
1. Press and hold the menu button + the center button
2. Wait untill the Apple logo appears.

Playlist help Please?

I must be a doofus. I am trying to put a playlist on my mini and it is not working.
I have my library on an external hard drive. I have created the playlist on iTunes. I thought I could just drag and drop the playlist to the iPod. That is how I transfer music to it without any problems.
The mini is set for manual updating if that helps. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for both answers. While neither produced exactly the results I wanted, they got me deeper into the iTunes settings than I had been before (I've had my iPod for only 2 weeks, so I'm new to this!).
Here's how I did it:
1. Select The Playlist
2. Select all of the songs in the playlist (Ctrl-A)
3. Right-Click on the list and select *Get Info*
4. Click on the Options tag, select *Part of compilation* and set value to Yes
5. Click on OK, then resync iTunes to the Ipod
Using this method, the artists' names are retained, but in Albums view on the iPod the playlist shows up only 1 time as Classic Rock. (Interesting, it actually shows as Classic Rock with The Who as the artist, but that's cool!)

I accidentally deleted My Top Rated, and when I go into Create Smart Playlist, I can't select a star rating, I can only choose Top rated then imput a number, and everytime i want to add a new song i have to change that number >_>

Umm.. this is exactly what my Create Playlist thing looks like.
Match the following rule:
(Drop list) Artist (Another Drop list) contains __________ - +
Limit to (Input number) (drop list) Items selected by (drop list) Random
Match only checked items.
Live updating
It doesn't have a match my star rating thing -.-

Smart playlists - help!

Hi Everyone I have a few smart playlist questions. This is a bit long so bear with me.
1. Lets say there is an artist Joe Smith. Joe used to record as Joey Smith. Joe also recorded a Christmas album. How do I create a playlist that includes Joe, Joey, no Christmas songs and with that cridera use the option play songs not played in 1 day?
2. My next question which is somewhat similar - can I do the above with two or more artist on one smart playlist?
3. With the above two questions, tHe only option I could think of was to create various smart playlists and a third one merging both together. Now if I do that will that cause problems? For example if I say on each playlist play songs that haven't been played in 1 day, then I do the same thing on the third playlist will that cause "wires to cross" and I'll end up with nothing in the playlist?
4. Last but not least... is there a way to just add one particular song to a smart playlist? I could not figure out how to do it. I could only find albums.
It seems like when I say match all criteria with these questions I can solve one issue another one arrises. Any help would be appreciated. I am new to using smart playlists, ipods in general (just bought mine a few months ago) and am somewhat lost in the process. Thanks for your help, Christina

1. You have to use multiple playlists like you mentione in your #3. This is becuase smart playlists can "match all" or "match any", but can't use "match x OR y".

Last played is not in the last 1 days
2. Yes
3. Not a problem, I've done it....but sometimes I make mistakes and have to tweak the various playlists.
4. Name is what iTunes uses for track name.

Creating a custom smart playlist *HELP*

Having a very difficult time creating a customized smart playlist and looking for help.
I would like to create on using the following criteria:
Songs from two different genres
Plays greater than 8
Seems simple enough but I get either zero results, plays greater than 8 from all genres, or music from all genres
What am I doing wrong?

I think the rules shown below will do what you want.
To be included, a song has to have more than 8 plays and be in one of the two stated genres.

Microphoto Playlist Help? (On the go playlis

Hi everyone, i've had my Microphoto since November of last year and i have just realized that making a playlist on this thing is more complicated then anything...
First off,
if you have no playlists it says to "save as playlist" on now playing, so then it adds one song to a new playlist.. nice, but when trying to get another song on that playlist, it is deemed impossible for me.. i tried playign the song, going to the now playing screen but theres no add to existing playlist... but there is a "add to selected" option, i've clicked this many times and nothing happens, what does this button do!
Is there an easy way to make a playlist where i can just scroll through my songs push the menu button and choose add to playlist or anything that isn't so complicated.. i just want to make it so when i sleep and i can play only slow songs, or when i wanna rock out i want only rock songs, and i know you can choose by genre, but my genres aren't exactly organized very well..
anyways i just want to know how to make an easy playlist..
and what the "add to selected" button does..

Do you see a sticked thread saying how you can create an on-the-go playlist for the Zen Micro?
Call it a hunch but I think the exact same walkthrough would work for the Zen MicroPhoto.
To put it simply you CANNOT alter a playlist once you have saved it with the ZMP.
You CAN however add multiple songs, albums, artists or even entire genres to your selection list and THEN save it as a playlist. This will work fine as long as you realize that once you saved the playlist you cannot add or remove songs UNLESS you load the playlist, ADD/REMOVE songs (in a linear order, you cannot re-order the songs or add a song in the middle of the selection list) to the selection list and after you've done what you need OVERWRITE the playlist to replace the old one.

On the go playlists-help please

im having trouble viewing my on-the-go playlists when connecting my ipod to my computer before they would come up so i could put songs on . now they dont show up and i cannot put songs into my on the go playlists. and i cannot find any way to bring them back ive tried everything if u have any suggestions to how i could make this work. please help me. thanks

When your iPod is connected, click on the little black triangle next to the iPod so it points downwards in order to show your playlists.

On the Go playlist- help

Somehow I keep creating on the go playlists. I would like to know how it is I am doing it and how do I delete them from my nano? Would really appreciate
some help as the online manual is NOT helpful at all... thanks a ton

This is what I think may be happening why you are seeing so many on-the-go playlists. If there is an on-the-go playlist on the iPod and you connect it to the computer, iTunes will sync it from the iPod and name it 'on-the-go 1'. Once it does this, in the iTunes, source pane, you will see this playlist show up under your iPod as well as under Playlists. Once you dsconnect the iPod and then look under Playlists on the iPod, you will see a playlist named 'On-the-go 1'.
Now, if you inadvertantly created another on-the-go playlist on the iPod, the song would now show up under the playlist named 'On-the-go' Then once you connected the iPod to the computer again, iTunes would copy it to yet another playlist and call it 'On-the'go 2'.
As far as deleting playlists directly from the iPod; the only on-the-go playlist you can clear right from the iPod is the one just named "On-the-go". You would go into this playlist and scroll to the bottom where you would see the 'Clear Playlist' option to clear the playlist. If you do this before connecting to iTunes, then it won't get syncd to iTunes.
You would need to do what Deggie mentions in her first post to delete the extra ones.
I hope this helps clear things up some more and I am so sorry if I confused you any.

Hey all just wondering if ne knows why the songs double up on the player. like ill have the playlists under 'playlists' but then under folder it will have 'my playlists' there aswell and im wondering whats goin on. the playlist under 'playlist' also has more songs in it. any help appreciated(this isnt a big problem but if there is a way around it then it would be useful)

i was facing the same problem too, but i figured it out.
Firstly, you move all the songs that you want to the player first. you can do it by folders or simply putting every song in the dri've.
Next, open up mediasource and click on your player. click on create playlist, and select the songs from the player <EM>not </EM>from your computer.
This way, the playlist will link up with the songs on ur player and there will be no double copies.

Accidentally Deleting Playlists - Help?

How do I change the delete playlist prefernces in iTunes so I can get the "Are you sure you want to delete this playlist?" message back? I checked the "do not ask again" box a while back but after accidentally deleting so many playlists that I've spent a good deal of time creating I need at least something to help prevent myself from doing that again. This usually happens when I'm trying to delete just a song in the playlist; sometimes in iTunes it's hard to tell if I'm currently highlighting a playlist or a song.
I can't find the option to bring it back in the preferences area.

There is no option in preferences to get the warning back. What you have to do is delete the iTunes preferences files. Forget the article number

Zen micro playlist help ple

<FONT face=Century>Okay, so I've got my micro, (yay) and since I'm using my cousin's computer which only has Windows 98 on it so I can't run the software (therefore can't make playlists on the computer).
So I'm trying to make playlists on the actual micro itself, so far I have done this:
a) got one track, click on the menu button and chosen 'add to selected'
b) got another and another etc.
c) gone to 'now playing' and chosen 'save as playlist' and named it.
Okay so now I have one playlist but if I try to make another using the method above, but the problem is, now that I have gone onto the 'now playing' menu I still have all the songs from my previous playlist there. Therefore if I add choose 'save as playlist' again it will choose all of them for the playlist.
What I'm basically asking is how to clear the 'now playing' selection without deleting all my songs. Any help?

Covered in the manual. Just go to the menu from now playing, and choose remove all to clear the queue.
