Plays and Last Played Not Updated from Device

When I play a song from the cloud from one of my iOS devices, the Plays and Last Played fields are not updated.
This does work, however, when a song is played from a computer.
This is a deal breaker for me.

Yup, I agree.  It's looking like the only really useful thing is that iTunes Match managed to get a whole mess of my songs updated to 256Kbps versions.  Not all, but a whole bunch.
Still, I rely on smart playlists with Last Played being accurate to figure out what to listen to.  And, it keeps my playlist from being stale or repetitive.
I can't wait for this to be changed.

My 5th generation Nano syncs 'Plays' and 'Last Played' but my 7th generation Nano won't in the same instance of ITunes. Any ideas why not?

  • Number of plays and last play date are not updated in the iPhone 5.

I am managing music manually, and play music using the regualy player and in my car through blue tooth, but the number of plays doesn't update. I have lists for new music, based on number of plays, and it never changes.

That doesn't make sense. It works on my iPad and iPod, and used to work on the iPhone. I think something changed in one of the recent updates.

  • ITunes V11.0.1 setting "Plays" and "Last Played" are not working

Can anyone help answer "how to upload an older version of iTunes". My system OS is Windows 7 and running iTunes V11.0.1 I would like to go back to iTunes V10.6 but don't have a clue how to do it. Thanks for any help...

I really hate this new iTunes The Last Date Play does not update, and no Cover Flow. My smart list is set to play only Least Recently Played. And so is the way I have my main library set up. As well as my iPhone and iTouch. I don't want to hear the same music I just heard and I do not want to use iTunes visualizer when I listen to music, I want to use the Cover Flow like I always did. If I knew they took away these options with this latest version, I would not have installed it. To me, this version is not an upgrade, it is a downgrade, and we all got ripped off.

  • "Play" and "Last Played" fields don't update.

What's up with that? Sometimes those two fields update but most of the time they don't. Annoying...anyone had similar problems?

    Two things:
The song has to be played until the track finishes. If you move to the next song, with one second remaining on the current one, the Play Count will not be updated.
For plays on an iPod to be added to the Play Count in your iTunes Library, the iPod has to Sync with iTunes. Manaually Managing will not update the Play Count.

  • Number of plays and last played date

In the current version of iTunes, it no longer seems to update the number of plays for a song or the last played date. (Actually, it does update the date intermittently, but for the most part that feature is no lomger working.) Anyone know how to fix either of these problems?

Do you have crossfade turned on? Several people have reported that it breaks play count updating.

  • How do I recover podcast stats for number of plays and last played date?

After accidental deletion of podcasts on iOS 7 phone, I recovered with Time Machine but stats are gone!

  • Play counts and "Last Played" not updating on short songs?

It looks like a lot of people have had trouble with play counts not updating with crossfade turned on. I've never used crossfade, so this doesn't bother me. However, I do have a plethora of very short tracks in my library (owing to there being many video game soundtracks with short fanfares as tracks), and I've noticed that when playing any song that's 10 seconds or less, it will show up in the "History" tab of "Up Next", but "Plays" and "Last Played" remain the same. Any other song in my library, whether it's 11 seconds long like "Got a Star Piece (part 1)" from "Super Mario RPG" by Yoko Shimomura or 11 minutes long like "I Am" from "As the World Bleeds" by Theocracy, will update its play count properly when played. Why is 10 seconds enough time to play a song and add it to my history, but not enough time to update when I last played it and make it appear in the smart playlist of recently played songs? Is iTunes 11 so obsessed with 11 that if a song isn't 11 seconds long, it doesn't consider it to be worth tracking?

I am having this exact same issue in iTunes 11 running on OSX 10.6.8.
Short tracks (less than 10sec) do not update their metadata to increase the play count. However if I play a short track on my iPod or iPhone and then sync with iTunes the play count and last played info is updated.
This really messes up my smart playlists that use playcount limiters.
I hope there is a fix for this soon.

  • IPad 2 will not update from version 4.3.5 (8L1).

I got an iPad 2 from work and it will not update from version 4.3.5. There isn't even a software update option in settings. I have reset and erased it a few times, and still no update option. I have plugged it into my computer to try to update it that way and every time iTunes prompts me to download and update the latest version, it loads for a few seconds and then I get an iTunes message that says "The IPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your newtwork connection is active, or try again later." the network connection IS active, I can use safari, and I have "tried again later" and still no update. PLEASE HELP!

  • Play count and last played features do not update

The play count and last played features do not update when syncing my 7th gen nano but still operate wit my 5th gen nano. I cannot find any way of changing  the preferences to do this with the iPod connected to the computer. Any ideas?Play count

I am having the EXACT same problem with my Ipod! I still have yet to figure out how to fix it, but my brother (who knows everything about ipods), has yet to figure out what is making this happen.

  • ITunes Play Count and Last Played not updating?

    Hi All,
I have an IPOD shuffle 1GB 2nd gen, I'm using the latest ITunes 7.7.1.11, I have Windows XP SP3 intalled. On Aug 14th for some reason that was the last time ITunes Play Count and Last Played columns updated in ITunes. I listen to and recharge my shuffle everyday. When I hook my IPOD to the base it is recognized and ITunes opens and says it's syncing, then after about 30 seconds it says sync is complete, ok to disconnect, the flashing orange light goes green & everything seems correct except those 2 columns don't get updated, does anyone know how to make ITunes start updating that information again?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Steve

    Hi Paul,
Just downloaded and installed iTunes 8.0. I played a few songs on my shuffle and synced it again, the problem remains the same, the last played & play count do not change. I wonder what happened on Aug 14th because thats the last time it worked.
    Thank you again,
    Steve

  • What has to be done in order for your play data--Last Played, and Play Count--to be updated from "cloud" play of your music?  Thanks

When playing music in the cloud, music on my MacBook's library play data is not updated.  Does anyone know how to make that work, or if it is even possible?  If it's not possible, why even ha

If you manage the music on your iPod Touch manually the playcount and last played data does not get updated in iTunes. It works that way for all iPod models.
To solve this problem you can do the following:
    - Create a playlist in which you add all the songs you want to add to your iPod Touch
    - Set your iPod to sync music automatically. On the music tab configure the iPod Touch to only sync the previously created playlist.
    - Sync your iPod Touch.
Now you can manage the content of your iPod Touch by managing the contents of the playlist and then sync. And most importantly it will update your playcount and last played data.
    Hope this helps,
    Marc

  • Play counts and last played not registered

When syncing my iPod after the past few days, I was worried when last.fm (music listening tracker for those who don't know it) told me I had no plays to sync with their server. Usually, this means that there was a handshake error with iTunes but I always double check. So I did.
When I looked, all the music from the past few days had no sign that I listened to it at all. No change in play counts, and last played match when I last listened to them on my computer (for many it's never). This is a syncing iPod that works by playlists, which prior to now had no problem syncing play counts at all but only gained this issue recently, with no changes to my settings at all since the last time this was done successfully.
    Troubleshooting?

I am having this exact same issue in iTunes 11 running on OSX 10.6.8.

  • I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone.

I recently got an iphone 5S and my songs not purchased from iTunes are grayed out (phone only) and are skipped past when playing them through my iPhone. i have tried the following:
    1) Removing all music from phone and resynced to iTunes PC library.
    2) Erased phone and restored from back up
    3) Erased phone and started as a new iPhone
    4) Reformated the music files in my library that weren't playing
    5) Deleted songs from iPhone and computer and re-imported CDs
    6) Tried to redownload my COMPLETE MUSIC LIBRARY from iCloud.
    7) I have also turned it off and turned it back on several times
    8) I tried syncing through my macbook (only moved partial songs to it to see if it would even work).
    9) I have tried to get Siri to play them, did not work.
    10) All music does play fine on my iPod Touch 3rd (iOS6 i think) gen and iTunes on Mac and PC
    11)  I added a CD to my roommates iTunes and it plays on their iPhone 5S but not mine.
After all of these things it is now WORSE!!!  My iTunes purchased songs are now experiencing the same issue along with some (not all) of the original music files that were skipping and grayed out.  My conclusion is i have no clue at this point!  I have done everything i have found online in EVERY discussion, i have spent over 60 hours trying to get this to work and i am asking myself, i bought this product why am having to fix this when it worked just fine on my iPod touch (3rd Gen) and iPod Classic!!!!  PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE FOR US!!!!

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

  • Sync play count, last played, and rating with iOS 5

From other threads (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16563011#16563011 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/16505730#16505730 for example) it is clear that there are some problems with play count, last played, and rating information updating and syncing under iOS 5. I have at least a partial solution. I am posting it here instead of under one of the existing threads because 1) some discussions seem to be confusing the difference between updating the iOS 5 device data and syncing the updated data to the computer, and 2) some of the discussions are focused iPhone, and though the problem appears similar I only have an iPod touch to test the solution on.
First of all, this is not a new problem. Prior to iOS 5, I would plug my iPod Touch into the computer and not see any play count or last played data for songs I knew I had just listened to. I discovered that if I clicked (in my computer's iTunes display of the iPod) on one song that I had recently listened to, it would suddenly display play count and last played for all the songs played since the last update. I could then transfer this playlist data (more on this in a minute) to the corresponding songs on the computer. Under iOS 5, this no longer works, and in fact causes the new play count and last played data on the iPod to be lost. However, under iOS 5 there is a way to get this information to update, even though you don't see it when you first connect to the computer.
To make this work, you have your iPod set on Manually manage music and videos under the Summary tab of the iPod settings in iTunes. I have messed around with this for hours, including several restores and resets of my iPod touch, and have found no way to get this to work under various Sync Music options. I have been using the Manually manage mode for years because I use my iPod with numerous different iTunes Libraries on several different external hard drives.
Here's the trick: Manually manage must be in effect before you connect the iPod to the computer. After your iPod shows up in the iTunes interface on your computer, in the main view (where it shows the different tabs at the top and capacity at the bottom) there is a Sync button at the very bottom right. Click on this and wait for it to go through the Sync steps (don't worry, you're not losing anything), and, voila, when you go to the songs (on the iPod) you have listened to since the last time you connected to the computer, the play count and last played data will be there.
Unfortunately, it's not a simple matter to get this data synced to the computer, but it can be done. At first I thought that once I got the data to show up on the iPod I could go to the Music tab and Sync Music to get the playlist data to the computer, but this does not work. It will sync the play count and last played data that are on the computer to the iPod, overriding the newer data. The way I have been getting my playlist data from my iPod to my computer without ever changing the Manually manage setting is by using the Copy Tag Info Tracks To Tracks script from Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes <http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=copytinforackstotracks>. This isn't hard to download or install or use and copies playlist information very quickly.
I have never had a problem with play count or last played on my 2nd generation nano, which still works beautifully. As far as I can tell, play count and last played have never worked well on the iPod touch; there are threads in discussions complaining about this from years ago. It would be nice if Apple would recognize that these are extremely important features to many users and make it a priority to make these basics work before (or while) adding a lot of other fancy features.

Just for posterity in case anyone else ever has a similar problem.
I found out I can work around my problem, but I have limitations. The only time it'll update the correct songs is after I restore it and then add the initial songs on to the Shuffle. The key is to not ever have a situation where I reshuffle the order of those songs. If I ever shuffle to better alphebatize or categorize things, the sync updating screws everything up. If say Song #3 on my Shuffle's playlist after the intitial transfer gets moved around to being anything other than the third song played, my Shuffle/iTunes will still think that song has been played although the Song #3 I actually listened to after the sync update will be different. Now I have to carefully compose and place what songs I want loaded on since I can't mess around with the playlist setup at all.
I know Apple support would likely blame my Shuffle for the problem (it's over 6 years old now). But it's funny how this only happened right after I installed 11.0. The update to 11.0.2 did nothing.
