Please check css layout

Hi - posted this in the webforum but didn't show here for
some reason so
posting again...
just doing my first all css layout and want to get the
experts to
check it out - tell me what could be better / anything
glaringly
wrong / etc etc
Navigation is a work in progress - I'm trying to learn it
from
the project seven tutorial. Don't know why the drop down
background is not
going all the way down.
Anyway, mainly wanting to get the page layout
perfect first. Any comments appreciated. Still getting my
head around
floats. The less Ap the better - is that right? I've done
lots of
reading, now just trying to get it all working.

Karen,
Only because you asked:
To find out if you've created a layout that is "robust"
enough simply
increase the text size in your browser to see if that doesn't
break
anything.
If it doesn't, you have a winner, but if it does then you
have to keep
working on it :-(
For example, this layout does not require you to use AP, you
should try
other things..
As a side note, this type of markup is not good either:
<span class="italics">delicious food?</span>
I believe a simple <i>delicious food?</i> would
be better here (if it is a
purely visual effect you're after).

  • Error when checking for layout in sap system.

    Hi,
We have downloaded the Adobe Life Cycle Designer 8.0 from service.sap.com.As in our system we have already installed the SAP GUI ,we only run the ALDsetup. exe to install the Adobe Life Cycle Designer 8.0 .When we checked in our backend SAP system in t-code SFP-> Select form-> Display ---> Layout ,then it is giving error below.
    Error :
    Error while opening document
    Message no. SOFFICEINTEGRATION143
    Diagnosis
An error occurred in the desktop application while opening a document.
    Procedure
Check first whether you can insert a document from this desktop application as an embedded object in another application. The necessary menu item is usually 'Insert --> Object'. The application then lists all of the OLE document types. Choose the type corresponding to the desktop applciation. If the insertion fails, the error is in the desktop application itself.
This error has various causes. Often, it is caused by activating certain add-ins. Sometimes, the desktop application is wrongly installed. The error should not recur once you have disabled any add-ins or reinstalled the desktop application.
    Procedure for System Administration
If you cannot solve the problem as described above, enter a problem message. There are notes relating to how to generate the log file using the program SAPROFFICEINTEGRATIONTRACE.
Please check it & reply to it soon.

Well, you're not using position:absolute, so you've got a big thumbs up from a bunch of us for that.
Is there any chance you could post a link to this page on your server? It's much easier to troubleshoot from a browser than it is to rebuild the page from code fragments.
If you haven't gone live with the page yet, create a folder called TEST in your site and save copies of the page and css there. Upload TEST and post a link to it here. Once the problem is found/fixed, delete TEST from the server.
You can also attempt to use Firefox or Chrome to find your issue by right clicking > Inspect Element. All CSS that affects a given element will be displayed with file name and line numbers there.

  • Creating from scratch, a css layout for my website

I am building a website from scratch and I would like to use CSS.  I am conceptualizing the design, however, I am struggling with designing it and working with the div tags.  I would like to have two sidebars, one on each side, and for them to be tri-colored, which means I have to create three small boxes and align them closely together, each a different color (the colors are part of the theme to my website). Of course the links on the sidebars would be white, and then change colors when hovered over or clicked on.  I would like to have a header and a footer, with the header containing my logo and if and only if I can get real fancy; a scrolling message.  My footer would contain additional links such as 'additional links', and 'contact us' and all the necessary copywrite info.  Please let me know, if first, my conception of this layout makes sense, and if so, what tutorial you could recommend for me to view that would assist in my web site development.
Thank you, all you great tech minds out there!

I'm with Murray.  I don't think you should concern yourself with HTML5 and CSS3 yet.
Stick with XHTML and CSS2.  When I was learning to work with CSS positioning, it was immensely helpful to use a pre-built layout.   And I learned a great deal from looking at source code.
Look at the DW Starter pages described below:
         Dreamweaver CSS Templates for beginners
         http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dreamweaver_custom_templates.html
         New DW Starter Pages --

If you have some money to spend, Project Seven has some excellent CSS Templates.  If you plan to do more projects, CSS Layout Magic is a nice extension for prototyping inside DW.

  • Css layout or style sheet not showing table layout

When I was working on my website I noticed that my tables don't show up in the browser of my site, they do however, show up in the dreamweaver design so I am wondering if when I was making changes somehow to the site if something in the css layout or style sheet got deleted.  Could someone please take a look at it and please tell me what needs to be fixed, I am not at all familiar with css so I need all the help I can get on this here is the link.  Thank you! http://angelcoilbartlett.com/index.html

In your HTML document in Code View, remove the following embedded CSS code. This is competing with external  style sheet code and causing your site havoc.  In the future, don't create any more new styles.  You don't need them.  Stick with the established styles set up by the original designer and you will have way fewer problems.
    DELETE ALL OF THIS NONSENSE:
    <style type="text/CSS>
    <!--
    .style1 {     font-size: 12pt
    .style3 {     font-size: 18pt;
         color: #000000;

    .style8 {     color: #000000;
         font-size: 14pt;
    .style9 {
         color: #990000;
         font-weight: bold;
    a:link {

I have a 2-column fixed css container. The sidebar and mainContent align perfectly on the original page, but on the duplicate page the mainContent suddenly moves to the right (it somehow adds the width of the sidebar to the margin of the mainContent).
Does anyone know what to do about this?
    Thanks!

Hang on. I just checked, and it only happens in the design-view inside dreamweaver. When I preview the pages in my browsers (Safari and Opera, still need to check in IE) the problem doesn't occur. So it isn't as big of a problem as I thought it was. Still very annoying though, so if anyone knows how I can fix the problem in the design/split-view, thanks...

  • Still practicing my CSS layout, and IE 7 issues.

I've revamped my site, and I've been practicing with the last 4 sites or so with mostly CSS layout....definitely a work in progress. My site is the first I've tried with overlapping images and the whole z-index thing. Everything looks great, for the most part. My issue is ALWAYS ie7, and then my issue is monitors with lower screen resolution. My sticky notes are showing up at the top of the page in IE7, looks great in 8. Every other browser seems to look great as well, as long as the resolution of the monitor is higher. I'm hoping someone can help me with positioning my sticky notes, so they don't shove my flash out to the right side of the page. Here's the URL www.theresasheridan.com.
Another site with another IE 7 issue....www.viewcamera.com. Here the issue is that the image in the maincontent div is shoved way down the page. I want to keep my width at 450 px so that I can have my side borders. Anyone have any other suggestions for me pretty please?
Last IE 7 issue (thanks so much), www.losvaquerosridingclub.org. The background color is white under the spry menu, but again...only in IE7.
    Thank you!!

You are absolutely right about the validator.  Some of it is way beyond me too!
However, it seems to indicate that you have some tag confusion going on there, usually that's about missing a closing element.  Fixing that is a good thing because it can screw your layout.  Another thing the validator points out is the omission of a few of your alt="" text.  That won't muck about with any layout issues but is worth adding if you have the time or inclination.  I'm afraid I don't have time to look right now but if I get the chance I'll have a go later.
With your sticky notes, it struck me that you could use absolute positioning.  The trick there is to place those elements in to a containing element, set that element to position: relative and then absolutely position the sticky notes using px dimensions where you want them in the page.  At the moment, you are using floats on those two parts of the page but again, I haven't quite got the time to look in detail now.
With the float drop thing and width, you would do well to Google "Box Model CSS" or something similar.  Width is not just the content width but also takes into account margin, border and padding.  When you add those up, the width may be too big for the containing element  width which will cause the content to "drop" or to be forced into a space that can accommodate it.  The other snag with the Box Model is that different Browsers handle it differently.  Sometimes what you need to do to create space in the page is to put padding on the nested element which constrains it's content without affecting the width of the container.
I'm a bit of a novice myself at this and it sounds a lot to get your head around.  However there is a a logic to it and once you crack it, it gets easier.
One other tip is to use FireFox browser and get the Firbug plug-in.  That lets you view the page in the browser and you can tweak your CSS "live" to get an idea of how things work together.  Once you have what you want you then turn to DW to make your edits.
I hope that helps rather than misleads!  As I say, I'll try to look later on but in the mean time, an expert might drop by.
And while I'm here, my feeling is that you might have done better to put each of your queries in different threads.  Sometimes, to see several questions in one hit is a bit daunting and I think people here tend to leave the longer questions a bit until they have time.

  • Customizing Controller Parameters are null. Please check Default Profile.

    Hello,
since last week we get the following error when trying to select an image or intenal link on an xml form (any xml form).
Customizing Controller Parameters are null. Please check Default Profile.
And this is the full trace obtained:
com.sapportals.wcm.WcmException: Customizing Controller Parameters are null. Please check Default Profile.

         at com.sapportals.wcm.repository.service.layout.customizing.CustomizingControllerFactory.createCustomizingController(CustomizingControllerFactory.java:141)
The layout set in case of a document selection is ConsumerSelectorWithUpload_EP and in case of an image is ConsumerThumbnailSelector_EP. In both cases the Layout Set seems correct, because when I use them in an iView it works correctly.
I don't think it is a problem of the xml form, because we haven't change anything of them and suddenly this error started to appear.
Has anybody had the same error?
    Thank your.
    Regards.

    Hello Srinivasa,
from a quick scan of the message it seems to be a rendering error rather than a TREX error. But I am not sure. You may need to log a support message to SAP.
Before you do that, check the SDN postings by user "Jochen Goenninger" they contain the most common configuration errors in EP-KM to TREX communication.

  • Unable to reach Adobe servers, Please check firewall settings and try again

I have been a creative cloud customer since it started and I've never experienced such buggy software as the app manager. The customer experience is just shocking and I wish Adobe would just offer direct downloads for the software we need rather than use the app manager.
I'm currently trying to install the latest versions of the programs but the app manager keeps showing "Unable to reach Adobe servers, Please check firewall settings and try again in a few minutes".
I do not have any firewalls on my network.
I've uninstalled all previous versions of the applications.
The app manager will download a few % and then the message appears again. I click retry and it downloads another few % before showing the message again. I keep doing this until the program is fully downloaded and installed which take hours. Because I am able to eventually download the app, the error should be anything to do with my setup or internet connection as I've never had this issue before when installing adobe products.
Is there a way we can bypass the app manager and install the programs directly? This is getting very annoying and I just need my apps to install without wasting days clicking the retry button.

I'm having the exact same problem. Photoshop is stuck at 0%.
Have the links for direct download changed? When I went to  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-direct-download-links.htmland then scrolled down the page to:
    Photoshop CC 2014 (64-bit)
    740 MB
    File 2
    801 MB
    File 1
and then clicked on File 1 and File 2, I reached a page that says "You don't have permission to access "http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/PHSP/15/win64/Photoshop_15_LS20_win64.7z?" on this server."

  • When I try to use FaceTime on my Macbook Air, I try to verify the email I want people to call me with, and it says verified, but soon an message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."

So our school lets us use Macbook Airs for the school year, and it has facetime on it. I know facetime isn't blocked because like everyone else is using it. So I decide to give it a try. I click the icon, it says enter your apple ID. I dont have one, so I click to make one, and do so. I then enter my apple ID and click next. The screen reads "People will call you using your email address. What email address would you like to use?" I enter my email address in the box below the message, and then go to my email and click the link, and sign in, thus verifying the email. I go back to the facetime window, and click next. At the top it says Verified, but when I click next it doesn't go on to the next step, it simply blacks out the next button so that I can not click it, and after a few minutes a message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."
So that is the issue, please help!!!!!
*Note-I repeat that I know it is not blocked by the school because everyone else uses it just fine.*

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

  • Admin tool could not load the essbase driver. Please check the configuration

    Hi All,
I have obiee11g installed machine and want to connect that machine with essbase.
For that I have installed Essbase Client [11.1.2.1] by downloading the following files,
*1>Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installer Fusion Edition Release 11.1.2.0.0 for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)*
*2>Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Foundation Services Release 11.1.2.0 for Microsoft Windows (32-bit) Part 1 of 4*
*3>Oracle Essbase Clients Release 11.1.2.0.0 for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)*
After that I manually added the ESSBASEPATH and ARBORPATH as Environment Variables (USER).
And also I manually added the essbasepath in bi-init.cmd file.
Finally I tried to connect essbase with BI through BI Admin Tool, I get the following Error
"*Admin tool could not load the essbase driver. Please check the configuration*."

I'm new in labview , I think something is not as should  be.
please check the attachment file and give me a suggestion or correct any errors that you see in the VI.
Here are the instructions I followed
    y(n)= Δt       *    (  T
     * y(n-1)+x(n)  )
             T+Δt            Δt
Where T is the time constant, x(t) is the input and y(t)
    is the output.

the dynamic response of first order system
    1.
    Launch LabVIEW.
    2.
    Create a blank VI.
    3.
The front panel should have at least an numeric
control to input the time constant and the graph indicator to show the result.
    4.
Drop the “Simulated Signal” express VI and
choose the signal type as square wave, frequency as 1Hz, sample frequency as
1000Hz and number of data points as 500.
    5.
Use “Convert from Dynamic Data” VI to convert
the data from the “Simulated Signal” express VI to single waveform data.
    6.
Use waveform function to extract the waveform
data and the time interval of the waveform.
    7.
Use FOR loop to iterate the output data of the
    first order system.
    8.
Use the formula node to program the algorithm based
    on equation 3.
    9.
Use waveform function to create the waveform
data from the output data and the time interval of the input waveform.
    10.  Use
“Build Array” function to create an array that consists of the input and output
    waveforms.
    11.  Use
graph indicator to show the input and output waveforms.
    12.  Use
“Write LabVIEW Measurement File” VI to save the data in a file.
    13.  Run
the VI using the following time constants: 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.1, and
    save the results to files.

    Hi Neoforce,
If you want i can give some help doing that program. Yours it's completly confuse. You really are new to labview.
So, if can explain what you want. I can try to do the program for you.
y=(dt/(T+dt))*((T/dt)*y1+x); it's the expression. But explain the inputs dt, T,X and y1.
What is the result that you expect to see in the graph? It's y(x)?

One problem I'm having is find the perfect streaming settings for the movies. I did check them on a fast Windows machine and on a brand new Mac at the local CompUSA store. Things worked well on their very fast Internet connection but the longer concept video didn't seem to want to stream. I'm almost thinking to grab some JumpCut or YouTube code and insert it just to get it to work. I know this will put their logos in but I'm just not sure what to do.
One thing I'm aware of and something I did do on purpose is that I made the background images very large -- to accomodate those wealthy folks with the very big, very wide monitors. I wanted never to run out of background "virtual" world no matter how big one stretched the browser window. Also, the necessity to scroll was intentional. Let me know if this is too annoying.
Appreciate any expert helpful comments and feedback on improvements.
    No I won't update to 10.4.9!   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   I said no!

You do not need to be a designer — but you do need to become more design sensitive or 'design mindful'."
In particular, according to another experienced designer: "Color should be used in the same way that type size is used: to emphasize importance, not decorate a page."
