Please help!!!!!!!! I am having a big problem with my mac

This is the whole story that has been going on. I posted yesterday and Ray told me to repost and see if someone else can help. Please dont know what to try next.

Ive been having a problem with my Imac 10.4. I believe that when my computer was doing the last update someone manually shut it down since then i havent been able to get into my hardrive to start up my computer. I brought it into the apple store the guy at the genius bar told me that he couldnt locate my hard drive and i would have to get a new one. I didnt purchase the new one I went home to see if i can resolve it on my own. I went out and bought a external hard drive and bought a program to fix the hard drive. So now the hard drive pops up on my computer and im able to get into it and i backed up most of my information on to the new hard drive. If now that i can see the hard drive is there any way to repair it so i can start using my computer normally again? Please help

In utilities there's disk utility, find your HD, the one you want repaired and run the repair permissions program.

I already tried that but I read somewhere else to try that a couple of times. Can you tell me what i should try after that?

What's left to do? Does the permissions tell you your HD is OK? Be more specific in what you want to do, I don't understand Shelomo. Post what it is you want done. Because there are many 3rd part applications that may solve your problem.

I ran repair disk first and it said that there was an underlining error, and i did that before i ran permissions. Will it work after the permissions is finished running?

Hi, ok so it finished running the reapir permissions and that came out ok, when I ran repair disk we got errors and the errors said ivalid record count, volume check failed, the underlying task reported failure on exit, 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. Do you have any idea what I can try now. I really dont want to have to get a new hard drive put into my computer. Thank you

What program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager?

    When someting works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. Finding out what the change is, can be tough.
    Most people have their OS set to update automatically, and they are unaware that an OS update, or hot-fix has been applied. That can change things drastically, and especially with regards to things like audio and video drivers.
    Having an Intel, embedded graphics chip, will limit you on the drivers, as they make good chips, but seem to ignore writing drivers to support those.
    Since things did work, just a day, or so, ago, I would first do a System Restore Point for now. Do this manually. Then, I would reboot to Safe Mode, and choose an earlier System Restore Point. You will be required to reboot. Test things with that earlier system configuration. Please report if things work, as they recently did. Now, if they do, you have at least tracked down a time frame, when something changed. Finding out what it was, is still a task.

  • Having a big problem with my 6 day old macbook, please help!

    My macbook was working fine, I haven't had much of a chance to install the hardware that came with it until tonight though. I was starting to install the first disk that came with my macbook, when I saw that it would take over 3 hours to install. SInce I need to go to bed early I decided to cancel and figured I could start tomorrow after work.
    Well, I turned my mac back on to see if it was still alright, and my mac hd is missing off the desktop, it doesn't even show the main toolbar/taskbar that's across the top of the screen unless I'm in safari. A message keeps coming up that says spotlight quit unexpectedly. I tried hitting all three options (ignore, report, and restart) different times and the window still keeps coming up.
    I put the disk back in my computer to see if I could just start to install it again but the computer isn't even recognizing that there is a disk in there.
    PLEASE HELP ME!! This is a brand new computer and I can't afford for it to break.

    I hope you invested in AppleCare. It extends your warranty for three years and also gives you three years of phone support. MacBooks come ready to use, as far as I know. The discs that come with it contain software, not "hardware" are provided in case of problems. Take your MacBook back to the Applestore and they will take care of the problem. If it is unfixable, they will replace your MacBook, but you only have fifteen days, after which, they will repair your MacBook, but not replace it (unless it is totally FUBAR) Your sales person should have explained all this to you.     I've tried a few different forums on the net and so far there has been no reponse to my problem below.  My coursework is due in tomorrow and I'm at my wits end.
    I am really new to Flash and am having a problem with my application. I have created a button that I want to use to activate some pre-recorded film. I know I need to use some code to do this, however I can't seem to get it right.
    I have deleted the film from the library as I thought it may be a problem in how I imported the .flv files, so I will need to reimport these (with some advice on how to do it right).
    Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

  • PLEASE HELP!!!!! PROBLEMS WITH Boot-Up

    Okay I was using Safari and suddenly my whole system seemed to be freezing up I was forced to shut down improperly but then after that when it restarted and I tried logging in again was taking too much time and tried restarting again. Eventually, I decided to run Disk Utility from CD so I restart and hold down the C Key this is like 5th time I restart but by then also I had shutdown the power from my Mac once accidentally while it was still on. (i.e unplugging in a way) and then on startup where you see the Apple logo and white background now the spinning pinwheel no longer shows up I just get the Apple logo and it stays stuck on that screen.
    I have a CD inside it the OS X CD that is and tried pressing C a few times to atcess Installer and load Disk Utility but nothing happens. What should I do?
    I am able to eject the CD and put it back in and take it back out again but when I press the C key nothing seems to happen.
    What can I do? Please help if you can. Going to Apple tech support is the last option on my list and will only go to them if there is no other way to get it fixed.

    Not certain. That is somewhat of a relief but not entirely sure. All I know is that when I insert a Mac OS X CD (my Mac originally came with Jaguar 10.2 that is software on PowerBook CD I have) and press the C key the spinning cursor wheel does not even load, If I don't press it the cursor loads but just keeps spinning over and over and is stuck on the same screen.
    Do I press the C key the instant it restarts even before the apple logo appears on the screen with white background or wait till cursor wheel? But by then its trying to load OS X from the hard drive. My Mac yesterday was shut down like 5 times improperly. I've had this problem before where I have to do an OS reinstall and pressed C key but those times seemed not to take as long. Maybe its just my imagination or I'm stressed that its not working again.
    You mention when you press down the C key it takes several minutes for it to load the CD. I'll try again soon, and as a last resort will call Apple Tech Support. But posted here first to see if I was doing anything wrong.
    I later upgraded to Panther and installed 10.3.9 that is how I ended up with Mac OS X Panther and I had Apple Security Update 2006-002 installed with latest version of iTunes and latest update to QuickTime 7 prior to 7.1.
    How many minutes do you think I should wait when I press the C key? Should I press it and hold it down during restart the entire time? Thanks!

    my nano is freezing, when I restore it, the center button is working only for first time after restoring nano, I can reset it(center button + menu) anytime, after that the buttoms still are not workink. I dont know that do I do... please help me...

    It would be very interesting to know how old is your notebook and the battery.
    Did you remove the battery while the notebook was used with power supply?
    As far as I know its not optimize for the battery life if it is always attached to the unit. If you used your unit with ac adapter, the battery pack should be always removed from the notebook. Please read in the user manual how to handle the battery.

  • I have a very big problem with my mac book pro. It continously looses the wifire connection. This happens every 5-10 minutes and is getting to be a very big irritation. I have tested my wifiresignal

    I have a very irritating problem with my MacBook Pro. It keeps loosing the wifi connection - every 5-1o minutes!!!
    I have testet the wifi signal and had my router checked - both are fine.

    First you should check on another Wifi to see if it's your Lion machine.
    If it only occurs on your Wifi, then perhaps you have local interference and need to set the router on another channel far from others.
    You can install a free program called KisMAC that you set your Driver Preferences to Apple Airport Extreme Passive Mode, enter your Admin password and monitor your local Wifi signals, see if you cna pin point the cause of your interference or meddler.
    If your not running WPA2 with AES and a 12 plus random character/letter/number password for both Admin and Internet access use only then you should seriously consider doing so.

  • Please help, I think there's sth wrong with my Mac pro

    I just bought my Mac pro 2 months ago. And I just got it back from repairing 2 days ago :-<.
    This is how it happened, I shut it down after 2 weeks keep using and then put on sleep mode everynight when I was not using it. I shut it down before, and everything was normal until the last time, when I turn it back on , I could hear the noise which shows me that it's working, but too bad, the screen didn't show up. I brought it to the store  and they said it was stuck on sleep mode. Then they fixed it, they replaced units logic board under MFG ( i have no idea what it is).
    I thought it would be fine from now on , but no , something wrong happened just 10 minutes ago. The laptop ask me to update as usual, it turns my screen down, put on the updating stuff...it was loading and suddenly the screen was shut off , turn into black :| ....and there comes the noise, sound like the fire alarm ( but smaller) >"<.....then it was totally shut down by itself, I waited for 5 minute, then I push the power button. I hear the sound from the laptop again shows that it was running, for like 5 second later it turns off by itself, then turn on .....all by itself, I didn't do anything. It keep turn on, turn off like that for like 3 times.... Then the screen shows up with Apply logo and the loading bar below it. Then it was going half way then turning off ...again :|..... I wait for 2,3 minutes, still nothing happens...I turn it on again, and this time it is back to normal @@
    I'm totally lost now (, please somebody tell me what happen with my Mac, I'm studying graphic design so I need it to death, but it's giving me hard time now ....And the thing is I just bought it 2 months ago , it's still new....TT_TT, what should I do now? Bring it to Apple again ( FYI, it takes me 2 hours driving to a Apple retail store) (

    The latest MacBook Pro just got a Firmware Update.
    It came to you with some other regular software updates. The Installer for the Firmware Update is very unusual. But it does just about what you described ... restarts several times, one time a Beeping noise, one time a Progress Bar.
    If your MacBook seems to be working OK now, you do not have anything to worry about.

    Yes! Prelude does support still images. You can add them into your rough cuts as well - and then when you send your rough cuts into Premiere Pro you can handle any special image manipulation/sizing/positioning/etc. there.

  • I am having 2 big problems with itunes match / icloud - i welcome any advice!

    So I finally have all my music itunes match / icloud and for the most part I am satisfied but I have 2 huge glaring problems I can't seem to fix. I emailed Apple and awaiting a reply but not holding out much hope there...
    1. Compliation don't work right via itunes match / icloud - I have a few large compilations albums & they display correct on my local itunes library. I have the tags set right, I have normalized the album artists, made sure my genre's are clean, etc. but when I let this match / upload to itunes match / icloud - my compilations are repeated via icloud many times. I have a large compilations called "singles" & it displays perfect on my local itunes. But via icloud it's listed 5 times. I have tripled checked my tags and reset them again and again. No matter what I do, I can't get my compliation abums to show up just a single time in my icloud list.
    Th problem is now that I am allowing my iphone and ipad's music to be managed by itunes match / icloud, these compliations are showing up on those devices 3-5 times for each. So my album list is one huge jumble of repeated Albums.
    Any advice??

  • HELP!!!!  BIG PROBLEMS WITH REFINEMENT TOOL

    I JUST bought CS5 primarily for the Refinement Tool....followed Lynda's tutorial to a tee....turned out great, but when tried on my own...I got HUGE transparent places in finished product.  .... including those in the original selection.  Anyone running into this same problem or have a FIX????  Tried the selection, thinking that might be the problem and even two pictures using both the Quick Mask and the Magic Selector with the same results!!!  Once it's transparent....png.... There NOTHING you can do as there is no longer those pieces.  It even cut one eye out of the little girl!  HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!

    I read through your issues and I can help with two, firstly the Printer you wish to use (Officejet 6110) is the exact same one that I use and I have an intel iMac 20", It prints off everything that I ask of it. I also use Mac Microsoft Office 2004 and that too works fine and prints for me. Your issue with internet plug ins is due to the plug ins not being universal applications (eg they are PPC apps only) so a quick fix is to do a Get Info on the Safari icon and then when the info box is displayed check the box OPEN USING ROSETTA to force it to use PPC code. You can now run the realaudio and realplayer plug ins now as well as any other PPC plug ins.

  • I am having a big problem with entering search terms in Google

    Here is the problem. I enter several search terms and do a search. So far, so good.
    After I am finished clicking on one or more links I return to the Google search page to do a new search.
    Since most of the words are the same, except the last one or two, I backspace over the old words and start entering the new ones.
    Then very strange things happen much of the time.
    1. It may restore the old words (the ones I already backspaced over and erased) and put my new words behind the old ones.
    2. It may just restore the old words, that had been backspaced over, completely removing the new words I had just typed in.
    Any ideas why this keeps happening? Is it Google or Firefox causing the problem?
    It seems very strange that words that had been backspaced over (erased) magically reappear as if I hadn't removed them.

    Does the account work on other devices?
    DId it ever work on an iOS device?
    Did yo Google for the setting to use?
    DId you delete the account on the iPod and tried again?

    Check connections
    When using an external display be sure to check the following:
    If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
    Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:

    Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
    If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
    Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
    If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
    You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
    Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
    From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
    Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
    Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.

    I don't usually update my iTunes software all that often, I am of the school of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and frankly was satisfied with my current version.  Anyway, to avoid seeing the continuing annoying messages that a new update was availabie, I went ahead and upgraded.  Shortly after this upgrade, iTunes dumped my whole library of over 11,000 songs.  I've restored my library from my Master Music Library, which I update often, on my hard drive.  After a few days, it dumped everything again.  I then restored everything back to the library from the Master Library once again.  This was 2 weeks ago, and everything looked stable and I thought the problem was finally solved.  Well, lo and behold, I go to power up my laptop yesterday and start the iTunes program and it has once again dumped the entire library of songs.   I've about given up and just resort to playing my iPod (160GB, software version 2.0.4), through the iTunes program.  BTW, I never encountered this problem until this software upgrade.  Why is it doing this and how can I get iTunes to quit dumping the whole library? 

    hmm if it isnt working with itunes a temporary fix for the new one is download real player go to www.real.com and download the program its similar to itunes but it's wat i was using when my itunes was acting screwy but also try to update your ipod

  • ASDM not applying config changes

    Hi I am running version 9.1(1) and ASDM 7.3.1 as Cisco recommended. It looks like the creating of objects or something similar doesn't get applied. I don't see any progress bar window which generally says applying your config changes. So after a whil
